GM Reveals the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation Sport Truck
All right, this is getting to be a little much. GM has revealed yet another special edition pickup truck in the form of the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation Edition. First we saw the Chevrolet Silverado Rally Edition, then the GMC Sierra Carbon Edition, then the Chevy Silverado University of Texas Edition and now this. Although we're told the truck is supposed to offer a more well-defined "sport truck" personality; we're thinking this is more of a special-ops stealth-mode player.
All Elevation Editions will be only double-cab models; they will have color-matched door handles, bumpers, side molding and mirrors to give the package a monochromatic look. All Elevation Sierras will be well equipped (keyless entry, power mirrors, 110-volt power outlet, bed lighting and more) and offer premium LED headlights, blacked-out 20-inch aluminum wheels and performance tires.
The new GMC package will be offered in 4x2 and 4x4 configurations, and will offer the 5.3-liter V-8 as an option (the 4.3-liter V-6 is standard). Pricing will be announced at a later date, and the trucks will be available by the end of the year.

Something about this looks familiar...... O I got it RAM did an all black truck LAST YEAR! welcome to the party gm.
Recallolet is getting desperate now... plain and simple. They finally woke up to the fact that refinement and evolutionary was the wrong road to take and they needed to shoot for revolutionary like Ford and Ram has.
They should have smoked out the head lights like the Ford Harley Davidson edition had then it would be a black ops truck.
Chevy/GMC has clearly run out of ideas and now are resorting to paint in order to try and bring in customers.
I also can not get over how the GMC looks a hell of a lot better than the Chevy. You'd would think it would be the other way around since the Bowtie is there bread and butter truck. GM just needs one full size truck, not two, and a manager that has clear goals for the future if they ever want to be taken serious again. They are like a rudderless ship just doing circles in the ocean now it seems. The only ones buying their trucks are the hardcore Chevy guys. The guys who are up in the air on brand are flocking to Ram and Ford. When the new Ford F150 hits and the new SD hits later on next year Ram will weather the storm but GM will be the most to lose and possible give Ram the number 2 spot because of it.

@Big Horn
...As opposed to Ram, who is simply giving it away. Local dealer in Bartow Florida is pushing a 2yr lease for 139 per mo. Hemi, quad cab, 2wd.
If so few manufacturers can supply so many variants of one product, then there is room for more competition.
Why is this a 'Sport' truck?
What does it achieve that is sporty?
Does it have an enhanced engine like our 6.2 supercharged Maloo with 6 pot discs?
So what is so great about this.
There are so many variations from the Big 3 manufacturers.
If this is the case then they have to much time and money to waste on providing so many pickups.
Wouldn't it be better if GM could reduce prices rather than up prices with vehicles like this.
What I'm stating is, if the pickup manufacturers can provide so many variations, then maybe if they concentrated on less the price would be less for a pickup.
I'll bet you would save thousands just buying a black one with equal options.
@papa jim,
I do think this is due to a lack of competition.
If their was more competition then this kind of stuff wouldn't exist. It would exist when you or I would buy one and modify it ourselves.
If there are more pickup manufacturers then you would have more choice. Real choice, not just cosmetic changes.
@Big Al From AZ What does it achieve that is sporty? It has a blacked out sport look, no nothing functional as far as driving but a slightly sportier truck. AKA RAM SPORT, FORD FX2 sport.

----------------------------------------------------------
How about the Ford dealers in Florida like the one is Sarasota who has big stick on numbers and letters on the side of his Ford Pickups, "$10,000 dollars off"
What is the down payment on that 2 year 139 a month lease?
@DiM,
So it's all marketing with no substance?
So the term "Sporty" is hollow?
Yep, your market does need something like this to enhance what "Sporty" means;
Most stippers have black door handles.
This is marketing at is best or worst. Like I stated more competition is needed in your market.
Companies will generally come out with products like this when they aren't selling as well as they anticipated.

GM needs to leave the customizing to the consumers and engineer better trucks.
GM really, really needs to hire new designers.
To those who say GM is desperate to create sales (i.e. Ram Big Horn and others), GM is burying EVERYBODY in half ton sales. I don't care who is cheaper, offers better incentives, makes more profit per truck, etc. Ram will never catch GM in half ton sales. To anybody at GM who may be listening- We don't want paint, sticker, and wheel packages! We want a 400hp 5.3 with an 8 speed and 3.73-4.10 gears available in a RCSB truck. We want a dedicated off-road package- no front air dam, 3-4 inches of lift, bigger tires and low gearing options. In other words, we want real performance options without fancy interior options that only drive up the cost. Why do you make your customers buy a 50,000+ truck to get the 6.2? Ram and Ford both offer their top of the line engines in plain jane work trucks. Why don't you?
Sure is nice reading the pleasant comments from all the unbiased people... I personally like the looks. I don't see this as much different than the all terrain edition that they have been selling all year, but that doesn't mean it is bad. I wouldn't personally buy it, but that by no means means nobody will. People continually complain about GM's two truck strategy, but how many cabs does GM produce.... That's right just on, with some floor pan changes between hd and ld... How many does Ford make.... As a business model, marketing 2 trucks with a different identity while minimizing production costs is not a bad plan. It does give closed minded, brand loyal "fans" something to complain about. If you read the full list of comments it is obvious why there are different variations for each brand.... Not everybody has the same taste, thank goodness... Would be a boring world if we did. Would be great if everybody would respect the opinions of others, instead of acting like elementary school days again. Have a wonderful day...
You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. Reminds me of Hardly Riddemsome. They take the same bike and just change trim and colors. Then call it a new bike.
It only took GM 20 years to bring back some sort of sport package with painted front and REAR bumpers. Next week they'll come out with the Chevy edition, but make the Chevy just a little bit uglier so it doesn't sell too much and GM can say see we told you GMC sales are up, we still need two truck lines, Chevy sales bad.
I do think this is due to a lack of competition.
@Big Al
You could be right, but if it was due to a void in the supply side of the market, the competition would quickly fill it. The global auto makers have been distinctly UN-successful selling Tundras and Titans, which should have been suitable competition.
My opinion: the market for half ton trucks in America is unique, because buyers are super brand conscious. It actually affects the supply of possible choices.
@Big Horn
Thanks for looking up the details. Does anybody have a more exciting lease offer for a V8 half ton today? Very tempting.
Special edition trucks can end up being highly sought after many years down the road, however, do they help the average Joe to identify more strongly with a brand?
I feel that GM is hoping these "special editions" will give people a good reason to buy their trucks and to stir up some excitement. In reality is that really happening?
If GM is releasing these special editions just for fun and to get some unique trucks out there, good for them. If they are doing this as part of some business plan to increase sales, well they might want to start thinking about getting some new management in there. Just my 2 cents.
The whole 'blacked out" truck look is getting old. I see black rims all over the place.
Where in the hell is the 6.2L. All bark and no bite. Looks good though. Needs muscle to back the look. :--(

The 5.7 Hemi has more balls than the 5.3L vortec. More sporty for spirited driving. ;--)
Wow, this Sierra looks good. Nice to have another option.

Give this man a prize. Well said.

Even when you're tough to get along with I agree with you about the blacked out wheels look.
Nothing better than bright chrome wheels, I would settle with plastic chrome looking hubcaps over black alloy wheels.
Its also my personal opinion that black paint color looks bad on any vehicle especially pickup trucks. The black makes a truck look cheap and generic.
I admit I may be bias against black cause as a passionate motorcycle owner I hate Harley Davidson and the black makes me think of them.
did you hear about the venereal disease birds are getting? its called "churpies" and the disease is un-tweetable?
@Hemi,
GIT R DONE!

I agree. I was going that route with my new Power Wagon. Silver with black rims, black bumpers, black grill.
I have since changed my mind. I want a black truck, chrome rims, chrome bumpers, chrome side mirrors, chrome door handles. Hard to beat black and chrome.
just like this beauty.....

Sounds like a great deal can you give me the exact name of the dealer?

as far sport truck goes make it LOW to the ground with Big motor regular cab,then I'll be interested
Elevation Addition? I figured it would have a lift of some kind on it, not blacked out trim.
My black truck has all chrome trim

now that's nice,
I'm sure it would sell if it was available here..
common GM let's do the El Camino again!
The GMC looks ugly, and even more ugly now that they blacked it out! The Chevy is the best looking truck on the market right now hands down.
Why does GMC get another trim package and not the Chevy?
Whoopieeeeeeee...ugly
So this is GM's answer to the 2015 Aluminum F150 ?
I think it looks pretty good despite the t-square wheel openings and sissystep rear bumper. Looks better than any truck ford puts out
Too many minor packages. They need to focus on the big things like a big fuel economy edition, Raptor fighter from the FACTORY, and Denali trim for Silverado.
Okay, yes Chevy and GMC are desperate for sales since they sell more than Ford or Dodge... Ford totes the line that they are the best since they have more F-series sales.... All Ford pickups are F- series and GM sales once joined with Chevy and GMC actually outsells.
