October's Fastest- and Slowest-Selling Pickups
Traditionally a good time to buy a pickup truck, the fourth quarter of the year started strong for just about every full-size truckmaker. Of special note: Chevrolet came out strong with its all-new midsize Colorado. Pent-up demand for something new in this segment translated into an impressive turn-around time of just nine days. However, Toyota's Tacoma and Tundra are selling exceptionally well too, along with a few 2015 heavy-duty trucks.
Both our lists measure how many days a particular type of vehicle has been on a lot before a buyer signs the final paperwork to purchase the truck. We look exclusively at 2014 and 2015 model-year vehicles. For the fastest-selling vehicles, we require a 100-vehicle threshold before we put them on the list to keep the list free of specialty products or limited editions that could skew the results. We have no sales volume threshold for the slowest-selling list, and all are 2014 models. If you happen to be in the market for a new vehicle and don't mind a 2014 model, this list will let you know where you are likely to find a solid deal.

So... the fastest selling trucks are the 2015 models, and the slowest selling trucks are the 2014 models. Who would have thunk it?
Yeah, It should really be same-model-year comparison only
LOL, meaningless stat.
The Colorado is being hailed as a great success when it only sold 1,600 units. In the mean time the Tacoma moved over 13,000 units.
Mark Williams must live in one of the pot is legal states and has a super size bong going all the time.

Ford is an exception. There is no any fastest selling 2015 ford 250 or 350 model and no any slowest selling 2014 RAM model. Non.
It's nice to see 2015 Ram 2500 HD Crew Cab, 19 days, right behind Tundra and Tacoma.
Multilink Rear Coil Spring Suspension is real success in 2500 model and has no competition. My next truck with 6.4 HEMI MDS. I just wait for 8 speed.
I think it's already been well established that the fastest and slowest selling pickups article means a whole lot of nothing. Most pointless article of the month. This is what the best selling trucks article from pickuptrucks.com said:
"They seem to be off to a slow start, with the Colorado selling 1,600 pickups and the Canyon selling 683 units since they started coming off the production line."
then this article says the opposite:
"Of special note: Chevrolet came out strong with its all-new midsize Colorado. " (referring to the same 1600 sales)
In my area ram has consistently had the best rebates every month for the past 6 months. I've been checking almost every day. If ford would give me some of the same rebates I've seen on ram, I probably would have bought a truck by now. I'm also impressed with silverado sales considering they've had the lowest rebates the last 6 months.
This is not a meaningless stat--it is an indication of how smartly a business is run. Hence, that is why Toyota is often on this list.
You may have huge sales growth--but is that fueled by crap engineering, shoddy quality, big discounts, and borrowed time? Hey, isnt Fiat going to sell Ferrari to raise cash? Lol.
This stat is about supply and demand. It's the manufactures fault if supply exceeds demand. It's all about smart business. I believe if you can maintain on avg, a 1 month supply, you're doing pretty good. If less than 15 days, you need to ramp up a little.
Having said that, holy crap on the 3500 silverado cc. Sitting around on avg on the lot for 9months. And that is avg days, some probably sits around for nearly a year. I wouldn't want to buy a truck that's been sitting around for nearly a year.
@Beebe,
The sad part is it both were written with a couple of days of each other and by the same writer.
Pretty conflicted writer if you ask me.
Hey, isnt Fiat going to sell Ferrari to raise cash? Lol.

Too bad, ford has nothing to sell.
@Ram Big Horn
"The Colorado is being hailed as a great success when it only sold 1,600 units. In the mean time the Tacoma moved over 13,000 units."
1600 is virtually everything that has hit the dealers lots in the first 2 months. They're still working on speeding up the production and I've heard there's been some transportation issues.
Hey, isnt Fiat going to sell Ferrari to raise cash? Lol.

Chrysler Q3 net income up 32 percent
Free Cash Flow went from red to black: last year, it was minus $343 million; this year it was a positive $412 million. Cash on September 30, 2014, was $13.6 billion.

FCA can sell what ever they want. They need extra money to build a new factory IMO.
http://www.allpar.com/SUVs/jeep/wrangler/future/factory.html
Otherwise , they do just very good. It was worth every penny to save Chrysler and sell it to Fiat to create FCA.
Uh Huh sums it up. it is data on supply and demand. It doesn`t show much of anything else.
The new Colorado and Canyon looks good because they have limited supply.
As Dav has pointed out, Toyota tends to manage supply and demand well.
I think Fiat needs more money to help pay for all the recalls.
I can't think of a single meaningful thing you can actually deduce from these numbers. To say a company is better managed because the trucks sit on the lot less is simply wrong. There are a lot of variables that contribute to how long a truck should be expected to sit on the lot. It's not just simple supply and demand. It depends on the total sales, the average price of vehicle sold, the profit margins, the variety of vehicle options, stockup for changeover to new models, different sale strategies etc. If you sell mid-size, 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton and chassis cabs, you're going to have trucks sitting on the lot longer. If you have more dealers or bigger lots, you're going to have trucks sitting on the lot longer. If you want to have a good selection of vehicles, you'll have to stock up and expect the average time a vehicle sits on the lot to rise. It seems more likely that Toyota has undersupplied their vehicles or doesn't have a good selection. That would be a bad thing. But you can't conclude that without more information. You can't really make any conclusions with this data.
frikken colorados are popping up all over my area! i had one run up on me from behind in brown damn nice truck! best looking chebby on the road IMHO.
It seems GM are not supplying the Colorado/Canyon fast enough, even though the numbers are low.
Toyota consistently appears to be the be at JIT delivery of vehicles. Toyota seem to have a good formula working for them.
I agree with uh huh and Lou. Toyota are smarter at this.
Totally agree with the above. It's also about efficiency. The longer a truck sits on the lot the more it cost dealers to operate and then they will need to give big discounts to get rid of it.
Isn't this the first time a ram of any kind has made this list of good or slow sellers?? Guess they figured they better include one this time just to try and make the ramturds happy.
I think it is the first time a Fiat has ever made this list. But it is obvious that the Fiat boys need to learn about how business (not ones that go bankrupt) is done and that indicators like use of capital, inventory turn, ROA, and such are important.
Yes, it is embarrassing now having to call some of these guys fellow Ram owners. Although I still have my F150 Ecoboost so I am still a Ford owner as well.

@flashee, You must be confused with Ford. lol
FORD RECALLS 1.3 MILLION VEHICLES AFTER NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS AND FIRES
May 29, 2014 — We're about halfway into 2014 and most of us are already burned out by the number of recalls this year. While much of the focus has been on the millions of cars recalled by General Motors, Ford Motor doesn't want us to forget them, apparently. Ford has just announced four recalls of 1.3 million vehicles after reports of numerous accidents, injuries and fires.
Ford issues 5 recalls November 4, 2014 10:26 AM
Ford is the Recall King in American Auto History. Mostly fire's.
There is lots of Ford models sitting at the lot for very very long time.
If F150 is not success, wait for fire sale, or bailout.
Colorado is gonna eat from small SUVs include Ford , except Jeep.
Jeep is unique.
Very good times for FCA, very bad for Ford.
I can't wait for November numbers.
@zviera - "Very good times for FCA"
Really????????
Worse durabilty ratings......... and to those who say Consumer Reports is incorrect....... why would FCA fire their QC boss?
`A day after Fiat Chrysler Automobiles found itself near or at the bottom of Consumer Reports 2014 Annual Reliability Survey, FCA quality boss Doug Betts left the building.
Per Autoblog, Betts came over to what was then Chrysler in 2007 after leaving Nissan, and had a challenging relationship with CEO Sergio Marchionne near the end of his tenure with the automaker.
In a brief press release, FCA announced Matthew Lidane would take Betts’ place as quality chief. Lidane has been with the automaker since 1987, having worked with Jeep as chief engineer, and was the boss for the U.S. compact wide platform underpinning two poor performers in this year’s survey, the Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Dart.
As for Betts, he left “to pursue other interests.”`
FCA fired their quality chief............................
Now which is it, Ford sales are down because Ford has lost F-150 production and people are waiting for the new F-150, or F-250 demand is down and the Ford F-250 is the slowest selling truck in America?
F-250 slowest selling truck in America. This is the fact you cannot deny.
@Hemi V8
No, I'm not confusing Fiat with Ford. Although, both company's reliability rating are below industry average. With that said, all the recall and warranty work are eating into their profits.
IMO, I think both Ford and Fiat should put more resources to improving their reliability and not focus too much on volume or sales leader. A company's reputation has a lot of weight on their success.

I agree. Chrysler is already on it. FCA fired their quality chief. Ford NOT so much.
@Ram Big Horn 150
Yes, GM did add another shift to boost production. Limited production isn't really the problem. The problem is, most dealerships haven't gotten more than 1 or 2 of these. In my area, none of the dealerships even have them on the lots yet. So the reason it is being considered limited, is due to the fact that they can't get them to the lots fast enough.
@A-L-L - did you buy an FCA product?

Boy this will make the so called Ex Chevy guys mad, well the same guy posting on muitl names Ex Chevy guy mad! LOL!
To clear up the confusion Fiat is Italian owned and Ford is US owned. Fiat was given Chrysler therefore Chrysler is owned by an Italian Corporation. Ford, Fiat, GM, Toyota, and etc use some of the same suppliers. Fiat has said that they will manufacture Jeep Wranglers in Italy. Shouldn't we all celebrate an increase in sales for any brand of vehicle made in the US or are we so brand loyal that we would rather celebrate jobs being sent to Italy instead?
Now which is it, Ford sales are down because Ford has lost F-150 production and people are waiting for the new F-150, or F-250 demand is down and the Ford F-250 is the slowest selling truck in America?

I love how the Ford owners are avoiding answering this.
@Jeff S.
That could be a worrying number of FCA vehicles being made in Italy
@Robert Ryan--Yes that is true. My point is that the Fiat Ram boys are so extreme in their loyalty that they would rather see jobs go overseas than to see any other brand have increased sales even if increased sales employ US workers. They have a blind allegiance to Ram which is above loyalty to their country. I prefer that the US worker benefit above allegiance to brand even if it is a Japanese corporation employing US workers but I guess I am more loyal to the country I am born in than a product.

Why don't you find out were Ford G.M Chrysler manufacture their vehicles.
Chrysler is more north American than all of them.
So shouldn't we celebrate an American brand Chrysler saved by an Italian co. Saving thousands of American jobs?
I don't see one Jeep built for Americans any where but Ohio.
"Chrysler is more north American than all of them."

Wasn't it G.M. that took bailout money from U.S. tax payers and ran to Mexico to produce the best selling vehicle G.M makes?
@johnny, G.M is a giant compared to Chrysler. These ratings change every year. Now look where G.M. makes vehicles China etc..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors#World_presence
G.M. and Ford are more global than Chrysler.
Man, these Fiat boys sure are proud of Fiat's Italian history.
I am with Trucker--I much more concerned about my fellow US citizens having jobs than whose badge is on the hood.
I have said it before, there are folks that have so little self esteem that they actually invest part of their identity in the crap they buy... sad really.

Negative ghost rider. My 03 Ram has a Hemi assembled in Mexico. The bail out didn't change were they assemble their vehicles. Unlike G.M. who changed assembly plants to Mexico after they took my money. G.M's 5.3 can't hold a candle to the power and MPG of the multiple award winning 5.7L Hemi engine.

Ya, a Toy O TA! boy wouldn't understand driving a disposable
vehicle. How many restored Toy o ta's do you see?
Use um up and throw them away.
I am not a Toyota boy--I have owned a '64 Dodge (with the first year A-833 4-spd), an E-body 'Cuda, a big block A-body--along with Camaros, Trans Ams, Mustangs, etc.
I don't blindy buy anything--Toyota makes the most reliable trucks (backed by actual data) and the for the Tundra, they build their engines in the USA, their transmissions in the USA, and the actual pickup in the USA, so that is why I own one.
@ALL, At any rate is wasn't their most popular model. Single cab is the only 1500 Ram assembled in Mexico. G.M. shifted their most popular vehicle in the entire G.M. line up to Mexico.
Chrysler is currently running three shifts At the warren Michigan plant to try and keep up with their huge demand of Ram 1500 crew cabs.
@Dav, Good for you bud. Too bad they don't have Union jobs with retirement and medical and pension benefits.
@ALL, those plans to close the plant were well underway at the darkest days for Chrysler after filing for bankruptcy. Not knowing the future.
The point is the move that G.M made was huge and well after the bail out.. Moving tons of good paying Union jobs south of the boarder. Were talking about G.M's biggest seller. The Chevy truck.
Do you get it now?
@HEMI V8 They have been building the GM crew cab 1500 trucks only in Mexico, and it was before the bail out happened!
@All, FACT! Chrysler built Rams at the Mexican plant for decades before the bail out. So your argument is null and void.
Saltillo builds Dodge Ram trucks, and was recognized in 1997 for producing the highest quality Chrysler trucks.
The Saltillo factory has a zero-discharge policy; the plant actually produces a surplus of clean drinking water that is put into the municipal water system. Wastes are treated on-site, with hazardous waste confined in a special landfill near Monterrey.
I thought the Colorado-Canyon was on hold not to sale yet cause they had to fix a serious recall problem. Is that problem fixed?
Personally, I am waiting for the 2015 F-150, not because I like the F-150 but I just want to be noticed and popular being seen driving around in one. I want to be the first one that owns one.
I want to be stopped at a gas station with strangers walking up to me and saying" "wow, nice truck"
I want to see other truck owners driving off the side of the road cause they are looking at my new F-150 instead of watching the road.
I want my co-workers to be sooo jealous.
My new F-150 will make me look exciting, successful and popular!
Can't wait!
