Recall Alert: 2003-2005 Dodge Pickup Trucks

2003-ram-1500-recall

Vehicles Affected: Model-year 2003-2005 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks and model-year 2005 Dodge Dakota pickups originally sold, ever registered or still registered in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas as well as American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, Saipan and the U.S. Virgina Islands

The Problem: When the passenger-side airbag is triggered by a crash event, the inflator could rupture and send metal fragments toward in-vehicle passengers, striking them and potentially causing serious injuries.

The Fix: Chrysler will notify owners beginning Feb. 8, and dealers will replace the front passenger airbag inflator free of charge.

What Owners Should Do: Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403 or call NHTSA's Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safecar.gov.

Editor's note: This post was updated Dec. 12 to include Chrysler's expansion of this recall.

Sounds like the Takata airbag problem that has made the news.

A recall on a 2003 is breaking news?

What it shows is how far BACK the takata airbag problem goes back.

I don't think Dodge has much expense replacing that many air bags cause I don't think there are that many 2003 Rams left on the road cause the way the body and the frame rusts and that pre-hemi engine that was junk wasn't that a 5.8 magnum? and lets not forget those horrible transmission and those driveline problems, everybody junked their 2003 Ram

Tom,the hemisphere came out in 2002. Before that it was the 5.9 and it was a workhorse. I had a 95 ram with it and it was indestructible just sucked gas..

Are those Trucks even on the Road? I don't see those much, I see more '97 model years.

HEMI V8, Get your truck checked out, bro.

yea HEMI V8 get that truck checked out for the air bag and ALSO that left tie rod breaking off that your local dealer doesn't have on stock, its on backorder.

What is going on with PUTC, It will not let me post on my normal IP address, I've spent six hours today getting a new IP and now it let me post. PUTC should be assamed of themselves.

150,000 truck sounds like all the trucks they made & sold for 2003.

do they mean 15000 ? 150000 truck in 5 weeks just doesn't seem right

@ Rolling can of Beer ... in case you've be sleeping alot, others have had FIRE recalls such as RAM!! enjoy. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/29/us-chrysler-recall-fire-idUSKBN0II1CL20141029

Well, I guess my Brother & I have the only two 2003 Rams on the road.
His is a 2500 with a HEMI & mine is a Cummins 3500.

Both bought new & both have been the most trouble free trucks we have owned.

That air bag problem goes across several manufactures, not limited to just one.

@ autonomous.. and rolling can.. I only replied because fire issues were brought up first. Being fair not one sided that others have had PLENTY of major recall.
As far as Ford and quality, maybe not great at times, but they don't get bottom of list quality rating like Chrysler/Ram does from publications & NHTS.

I don't see Ford at the bottom of published list, do you?
Just reporting facts published.

Wow I love their so many know alls on here. Like the saying the 5.8 was and the trans was junk. Dodge had a 5.9 and was a 360 cu.in. Dodge also pretty much had their trans problem fixed by 2000 and the hemi did not come out until 2003 when the hd trucks came out. The 5.8 was a ford motor. Not trying to act like a know it all but come on people it goes for all manufactures of all brands.

Rolling Can Of Beer isn't HemiV8 !
That's Lou BC

I thought most of these went away with the cash for clunkers program.

Are these the Takata airbags? If so they must supply most of the manufacturers. My nephew works as a service adviser at a BMW dealership in Northern California which has been swamped with air bag recalls on older BMWs.

2003 ram 3500 2X4 with Cummings engine. We have not had a bit of trouble with this truck. Our airbag was in the recal list . Rust? What Rust . My truck still shines except for the horse bite on the rear fender . Truck still looks new! We also have never had any other issues except a power steering pump and water pump. LOVE MY TRUCK!!
