Ram Upgrades 2500/3500 for Maximum Strength
Having the biggest towing numbers in the three-quarter-ton and one-ton pickup truck segment is a big deal for truckmakers. There was quite a bit of buzz generated when the new 2015 Ford F-450 claimed towing superiority and Ram countered by saying that comparing an F-450 with a Ram 3500 might not be an apples-to-apples comparison.
How quickly things change.
The 2016 Ram 3500 dualie with the 6.7-liter Cummins mated to the Aisin AS69RC six-speed transmission with the 4.10:1 gear option is now rated at 900 pounds-feet of torque with a few injection and boost tweaks. Interestingly, horsepower and peak torque numbers stay exactly the same, yet torque has increased by 35 pounds-feet.
Additionally, Ram has asked American Axle Manufacturing, which supplies Ram's axles, to improve the differential pinion seals and strengthen the structure of the pumpkin by going from a 12-bolt configuration to 16 bolts. AA will continue to use the aluminum finned cover for extra cooling and weight savings, but we're a little disappointed Ram didn't see fit to add a unique Ram emblem on the differential cover. Hopefully that will get rectified on a future trim package.

"Interestingly, horsepower and peak torque numbers stay exactly the same, yet torque has increased by 35 pounds-feet." Say what now?
Yeah, what's up with that!
@PUTC: Please post a dyno chart showing the torque and hp curves of engine output.

RAM IS TAKING OUT FORD SUPER DUTY IN 2016.
@Alex - they must of tweeked the power band so parts of the torque curve are higher by 35 lb ft.
How can they say torque peak has increased when they are saying it is the same?
Mark Williams - how about some investigative journalism as opposed to cut and paste journalism?
Are these trucks going to have load range "F" tires on them?
"but we're a little disappointed Ram didn't see fit to add a unique Ram emblem on the differential cover. Hopefully that will get rectified on a future trim package."
That unique emblem has got to be worth an extra 50 lb-ft and 500 lbs towing capacity...
What is going on with that hideous grille?
{strengthen the structure of the pumpkin by going from a 12-bolt configuration to 16 bolts.}
Am I the only confused person here? Isn't the 11.8" AAM Ram axle the upgraded GM's 14-bolt? When did it ever have 12 bolts? Am I the only one counting 14 bolts on the pic above?

Has been reported.
for abusive posting.
CumminsDiesel - maybe there are 2 spare bolts in the glove box ?
2 bailouts and you expect them to be able to count ;)
when will the twins catch up?
nitro- catch up to what or whom?
GM won the last Ultimate One ton shootout.
I've only met one guy who has max towed 30k in the mountains with a Ram 3500 and he said it was scary.
@Lou, I mean, all we hear about on here is what Ram and Ford is doing and nothing from GM twins, when we do actually hear something from GM it appears to be what the others have already done. I don't really watch shootouts as it means nothing for me, you don't see commercials on tv saying GM won the 1 Ton shootout viewed by the 20 people on this site, what you do see is the Ram and Ford commercials claiming numerous trucks of the year titles or most sold , more HP and TQ than the others and so on.
Am I the only confused person here?

Yes , you are the only one confused in here , like any other US Cummins owner posting under HEMI section in Fuelly.
Yes, I count 14 bolts too.
nitro - GM tends to play their cards close to their chest when it comes to pickups. The did not release much leading up to the release of the new 1500's and same can be said for the HD's.
What a mean looking truck!
Hopefully we get another hd shootout soon.
Bet this torque monster pulls ahead of any f450!
The number of bolts hold a differential cover on the axle isn't a sign of strength or what it's referring too.... It's referring to the number of bolts holding the gear on.
Wonder if they are upping the power in the 2500's
Surprised that Fiat is trying so hard to increase HD cred while simultaneously making the weakest and least capable 1/2 ton.

Only aisin trans with 4:10 gear options are getting increase. That's it on the upgrade, so not sure if the aisin with 4:10's is available in the 2500. 4:10's are going to be a waste for most as they are going to drink more fuel for just commuting. My 4:88 gears in my ram cummins equals about 9-9.5 mpg at 75 mph empty
This story is several days old, and this site still can't get the correct info posted!
Scott - you are probably correct. The story is misleading.
PUTC ................ Investigate NOT Regurgitate
Glad ram is showing they're hand early. Always and will always be in turd place.
Ford announce their details very carefully. Ram is desperate.
"Surprised that Fiat is trying so hard to increase HD cred while simultaneously making the weakest and least capable 1/2 ton."
You hit the nail on the head Dav!
@woopud, @Dav - agreed.
I do not like the new front grille on the Ram! GM is just waiting in the wings ready to broadcast their new power numbers. Where will it stop?
Lots of ram jealous haters huh?
385 HP..... LOL!!!!!!
We are working on 16 and 1/2 bolts version already. Poor RAM is going to lose in 2017 again.
@woopud
I agree. He hit his head on the nail.
Currently, the 385/865 version is optional on 3500 SRW with 3.42 only and the dually with either the 3.73 or 4.10. Wouldn't this remain the same with the 385/900 engine? 4.10 is way too low for people who don't tow a crap load of weight all the time. I even find the 3.73 a bit too low on the 6.7 because it's doing about 2500 rpm on the highway (at least with the manual). 3.42 would be perfect.
Meanwhile here is a 2016 Aluminum Super Dooty burning to the ground. Not much left to clean up. Recycles real nice. lol

___________BREAKING NEWS!!!!!__________
NHTSA investigating 250k F-150s for possible power brake failure.
" 32 complaints about the electric vacuum assist pump allegedly failing in these trucks, which then causes the power braking assist to stop working. Drivers claim having no warning beforehand. There are also two reports of crashes that are purportedly linked to the problem."
Towed Ya So: Ram Trucks Adopts SAE Tow Ratings for all 2015 Pickups.
Ram trucks is the first company to actually apply them to heavy-duty models.
This is all you have to do to qualify SAE tow rating LMAO
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeWhXy_ciuM
a 5.4 triton could spit half its spark plugs out through the hood and still beat the turd in the vid
Ram is just sprinkling some magic ferry tow dust on the trucks. They don't perform any better then the competition. Never have and never will.
By the way the 6.0 GM smoked the turd in the youtube vid. LOL!!!
your post is amazing it is relay good kepp posting and help us If you want to earn $3000 in a month then click here http://tokowebgratis.id/
Wow, unimpressive. Will make the Dog sissies happy. Shame it falls apart after 5 years and is 15 years behind GM trucks in technology, class, quality and durability.
@tj
Source?
The real world is the source.
Your PS2 games is not a real world.
Considering the ambitious tow ratings a chassis that is suitable is a requirement.
@Alex
The maximum torque is most likely reached at lower rpms.
This will only affect hp figures at these lower rpms.
"we're a little disappointed Ram didn't see fit to add a unique Ram emblem on the differential cover"
They don't need to Ram tards got RAM buzz cut in their hair cut on the back of their heads.
The number of bolts in the story are about the bolts that hold the ring gear to the carrier housing, inside the differential. NOT how many hold the cover on the outside.
They couldn't even nickle plate the oil fill plug on the pumpkin so it wouldn't be all rusty like that? Jeez!
So this Duramax 1000 we are hearing about, will that be the king of the hill even it has less horsepower?
I must say that from a marketing standpoint Dodge has the right idea. The torque difference isn't going to matter one bit in towing a load that heavy if it is only at low rpm. Even if the other two top their number for torque they may have already gotten the interest from customers by creative marketing and not trying to wait till last minute. A change every year also allows them to enter magazine tests which require a noteable change to be entered. This is how they won truck of the year for Motor Trend twice. Ram currently has the best marketing around.
SO much misinformation here...just ridiculous!
