2017 Ford Super Duty Towing Tech: Video

We talked with Ford engineer Jennifer Shaw about Ford's newest camera technology, which will allow the 2017 Ford Super Duty to be one of the safest heavy-duty pickup trucks on the market. The new system will provide the driver with front and rear wide-angle views on the center stack's 8-inch display screen as well as a 360-degree view around the pickup. Additionally, several new towing features will make navigating tight spaces and hooking up trailers much easier.

The Fast Lane Truck thanks you for your support over PUTC!

The cameras are a nice feature and could keep you from crumpling that expensive aluminum body. Wonder what the life span on them will be. After watching TFL looks like Ford has gotten rid of the after thought plug for your trailer plug and put them on the bumper.

Where is the "What we don't like about the new super duty" article? Or would that go against the Intensions of this Ford site?

@Mark Williams
I cannot understand, why others do not use more cameras. I know in Australia , safety campaigns are very active about watching for children, backing out of driveways and the need for extra cameras.

TLF Truck video is replicated every day in Australia,minus the Corvette

@Alex

OMG That thing was hideous, man I hate shock videos!

I think it should have square wheel well's to match the top of the rear wheel well....would look way better.

"Ford's newest camera technology, which will allow the 2017 Ford Super Duty to be one of the safest heavy-duty pickup trucks on the market"

I sure hope so! With just four brands of Heavy duty pickup, one of the safest, should be the goal at Ford.
For the safety of those on or near the roadway, lets hope Ford can be in the top 4 or 5!

So you have to dig out an article from nearly a year and a half ago to say in 2+ years you may or may not get the updates to get it in line with GM and Ford?
Sales are flat, and before you say they can't build enough, look at how long it takes to sell there HD's. And last I looked Ram didn't have too many on the quick to sale list. (Posted here every month.)

Im curious on how having a rating of just 10lbs more destroys the superduty. Plus the only Ram that can do it is with the optional 10K engine option as a 2WD and 2Door. While the F450 Superduty does 10lbs per J2807 standards in a 4x4 4 door truck.

I guess we will have to wait for the new engine price. the current 865 option is $11300.00 for the Ram.

Ford has a backup plan. Rumor is all of the frames are being sent to Dearborn in preparation for a strike in KC.

@HEMI V8, Ram is coming out with an all new HD in 2018. I was thinking about buying one. Here is my question. Do you buy a Ram now or wait for the new model?

It looks like the RAM Heavy Duty Trucks will be getting a minor update in 2016 and a major update in 2018.

"...Ram did lay out its schedule for updates. The brand’s 1500 pickup will be getting a minor update in 2015 and a major update in 2017.
When it comes to heavy duties, Ram’s 2500 and 3500 will receive a minor update in 2016 and a major update in 2018."

If you can't drive a truck without all those camera's you probably shouldn't drive a truck in the first place!

Can you say "North American Truck of the Year"

Can these cameras be used to monitor the vehicle when it is parked to check for vandalism, etc. ? How about - are they going to use them against you/for you in a court of law if the vehicle is equipped with them?

I am going to buy a new truck soon, too. But I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a truck. Give me $1 million tomorrow and I'm not spending $80k on a Power Wagon. These are depreciating assets and are not worth that much. Believe you me.

@HEMIBOYS - Must you turn every article into a frackin' Ram commercial?? It goes beyond annoying. Ram will have its share of articles when there's something to report or highlight. Usually a recall.

So relax and stay on topic.

This is what cracks me up about "Engineers". Mark asks a great, question and she goes into "deer in the headlights" mode.

A camera, or this camera *inside* the trailer is an excellent point. You might need to keep tabs on horse on long trip. Or passengers in a 5th-wheel travel trailer.

I don't see how hemi keeps up with which one he's talking to as he always talks to himself. Just don't understand. Guess his only friends are the ones he makes up. I can see why.
