Recall Alert: 2016 Ford E-Series Cutaway and Chassis-Cab Vans
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 65 model-year 2016 Ford E-Series cutaway and chassis-cab vans built at the Ohio Assembly Plant between Nov. 3, 2014, and Sept. 1, 2015
The Problem: Vans fitted with the trailer-brake controller could potentially not engage the trailer brakes when the brake pedal is depressed. This condition could result in extended and unpredictable braking distances. Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries resulting from this issue.
The Fix: Dealers will update the powertrain control module software free of charge.
What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov for more info.

First up, 65 vehicles???? Is this really a news worthy article. It's good that Frod is attempting to fix the brake controller.
As an aside
Ford must be happy these dinosaurs are being replaced with modern and more advanced vehicles.
The large vans from the EU would be the best as the EU uses these in a similar fashion to how the US uses pickups.
Pickups from the global market are also fantastic in design and engineering, as these are first and foremost designed and engineered for work, then play, unlike the NA pickups (1/2 ton) these are first thought of as a car/SUV alternative.
The global pickups are now entering the car/SUV alternative mindset. This will be good for us as the manufacturers are forced to maintain the capability of a working vehicle with comfort.
Great examples of this is the new Navarra with it's coil sprung rear end and the Amarok.
I'd bet the other manufacturers are going to follow the lead of Nissan and VW.
I have to agree with BAFO, 65 is a small number but it is a safety recall so it would be best to make sure everyone is aware.
The E series vans have been a cash cow for Ford. It has had very little changes over the last 20 or more years but still has proven time and time again to be a huge success in van sales. But since the Sprinters have hit the US people have been loving the capacity that those vans offer. The down side is reliability. They are terrible. We just decommissioned one with 40K miles on it. The cost of ownership has been way to high. We did buy 7 new mid roof long wheel base transit vans. There really is no comparison between the E van and Chevy van for ride and comfort. With a proven drivetrain in them they should prove to be a very reliable van.
Once ford comes out with a 14K GVW transit, the E series can go away for good. It did have a good run but times are changing. Last I heard Chevy is slowing down their van production in expectation of releasing their version of the Euro van. I'm sure they will buy something and put their name on it like they do with the smaller van.

It is a know fact that the EU is producing the best van designs at the moment.
It is also a known fact that more pickups are designed outside of the US, globally. It seems even from Ford, the global Ranger is a more successful vehicle than the F-150. The Ranger has even exceeded Ford's own expectations.
The introduction of the Transit by Ford and the acceptance of the Transit by US consumers is another indication that the global range of commercial vehicles are exceptional in the US market.
Even the success of the Colorado/Canyon in the US market is another indication on how global vehicles are quite good.............in most any global market. This is even with a global platform (Colorado) that is not a leader outside of the US.
The US makes the best full size pickups globally and I might add they are fantastic vehicles, but, they are only really suited to a very limited market. This market is large, huge, but one day when this market encounters difficulties you guys will be pleased to know that there are acceptable alternatives, globally to assist the US market. Just like here in Australia. Ford is reliant on the Ranger, not the Falcon for it's existence.
It is also a know fact that the US and even here in Australia to a lesser degree we use pickups as light work vehicles, even though they represent a small percentage of the pickup market.
I do believe you are losing your touch in you troulling techniques. It might still work with HemiV8, but, alas, your Ford'isms don't really work on me.

No story on the Ford EcoTurd brake failures, but we can do one on Toyota for a power window switch.
Because the recall is for cutaway/chassis cab vans, all up-fits of any kind must be removed before bringing the vehicle in for service. So if a box has been added on, it must be removed first.

This does not make any sense at all. Unless the frame is being replaced the upfitter body does not need to be removed.

No surprise here. I deliver motor homes built on this chassis and the break down rate for these and the class A chassis is very high. Four out of every ten end up at a Ford dealership for repairs on their way to delivery.

I'm not sure about the rate you are claiming but after working at a dealer for many years next to the turnpike we would get several motorhomes in for service during their delivery. The bodybuilders just hack these things together. It is not surprising you go on motorhome threads and find out the first year of ownership the RV's spend a great deal of time at the dealers. I have seen from as simple as some wiring harness connectors not plugged in all the way, broken connector snaps because someone does not know how to remove a bulk head connector properly to high pressure fuel lines made out of rubber fuel line from the frame stretching, wiring harness's spliced together with non weather tite connectors, damaged connectors on top of the fuel tanks and fittings damaged. The interior issues tend to be far more vast.
This is why I purchased my class A motorhome a few years old. Bugs worked out and no issues for 4 years and 60K miles.
