2016 'Back to the Future' Toyota Tacoma Video

IMG_3404 II

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the "Back to the Future" movie franchise, Toyota created an updated version of the classic Toyota compact pickup from the 1980s that was highlighted as the dream machine for Marty McFly. It's on display at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. We did a quick walk-around of the truck with our video team and found, although subtle, some very cool details.

Sounds like the Tacoma will be in second place soon!

Just because GM will be able to produce more Calorados and Canyons doesn't mean they will sell more than the Tacoma.. The Tacoma is smashing GM right now while it's struggling to keep up with the demand and putting them on dealer lots.

I see it now. I love the wheels, hate the tailgate handle and the roll bar being fake, but overall looks good whether or not it's designed after the movie truck.

Less funny when you realize the BFG All Terrain tires are the same as those on Marty's truck.

johnny doe,
I think GM have been waiting to see if the Colorado/Canyon sales were just a blip or sustainable.

The F-150 "aluminium wunder trux" have been around the same time as the Colorado/Canyon and I think Ford really doesn't have room to improve numbers unless they do a FCA Ram and drop prices significantly.

The Taco will have improved sales for a little while and the numbers will settle back down. The same will occur in Australia with the Hilux.

Here the Ranger is selling like hotcakes. 40% of all the vehicles sold by Ford in Australia are Rangers! Ford Australia is more reliant on pickup numbers than Frod US.

I do think the Colorado might have a chance of reaching Taco numbers in sales. The Colorado/Canyon might sell 1/3 of aluminium F-150 numbers. That's impressive.

That would be a blow to Ford who stated that the dropped US Ranger buyer would buy a Festiva or Focus or whatever Ford said. The old Ranger buyers are obviously not buying the aluminium wonder truck (F-150).

Who would want a 2.7 litre engine that only gives 15.4mpg FE combined.

The Cummins powered Titan gets better FE than a lightweight 2.7 EcoSuck aluminium F-150. Can you believe that.

One would have to hop into a time traveling Deloreon and go back 2 months to find this as anything but old news. The only news left on this story is if they make it and what they would charge.

Another Big Al rant... C and C wont beat the Taco in sales and really haven't taken any market share from the King of pretender trucks. The Frontier has taken a beating from new pretend truck offerings but it didn't have much market share to lose really compared to the Taco. Renewed interest, offerings, marketing and cheap fuel are growing the pretend truck market but largely at the expense of full sizes who are all also doing well. If it weren't for the sales of the C and C the Silverado just might beat the F series in sales for the first time in 39 years as the Silverado's growth has been outpacing the F series this year. Youll see that proof aluminum failed and youre wrong. Its proof aluminum takes some effort. Its good that Ford is working through these issues in good times. Timing/market/fed demands/competition/future all reasons GM failed. Ford taking the medicine now is smart. GM delaying is stupid. The Titan gets about 12MPG as per the reviews. Its also extremely heavy and the Cummins engine is a 4 or 5K option. The 2.7 does 25% better in fuel consumption than it, and is much more responsive and makes a lot more sense with cheaper fuel for the average half ton buyer than the Titan or the V6 Colorado/Canyon buyer with its superior space/capabilities for little difference in price. Not that the F150 is alone in that world... A V6 Fiat or GM half ton also makes far more sense than a pretend truck in most circumstances. The F150 is just by far the most modern offering.

Rant on Big Al, the F150 sales continue to increase and thats a fact, just like you continue to increase your hate upon the new F150 without merit

If GM can increase production that also means they can lower price. I would buy the GM and save money. Tacoma is overpriced/overated.

Clint the Titan is too heavy for the average user. Also the diesel engine has to have a lot more maintenance and is more expensive to run than the gas competitor. The ford 2.7 ecoboost has the buy it new and forget about it for 100k miles advantage that the averager user is looking for.

A diesel Titan is more for those who will buy and keep a truck for a longer period of time. The Econboost 2.7 is more for those who lease and will be on to the next leased vehicle long before the truck reaches 100k.

The tube front bumper should be standard issue on all new 2016 Tacomas - it hides that ugly front end really well!

Clint Your full of dog poop 50 to little over 50% of trade ins for the new GM midsize twins are F150 and Tacoma owners, with CUV owners next in line. It's been fact that the new GM midsize twins real are not really taking sales away from the GM full size!

Plus Chevy 1500 is already of the F150!

GM's 'told ya so' small pickups

Sales are conquested, not cannibalized

• The percentage of buyers from other brands -- the conquest rate -- is 56 percent for Canyon and nearly 50 percent for the Colorado, GM says. The Colorado's top conquests are Tacoma and Ford F-150 buyers.

What was you saying Clint? Oh yeah that you like making up stories nice!

A new f150 can be had for the price of a new Tacoma or c&c. Bottom line is trucks are mostly bought by guys like you and me not afraid to drive a fullsize.

@Big Al

"The Cummins powered Titan gets better FE than a lightweight 2.7 EcoSuck aluminium F-150. Can you believe that."

FALSE! The class of trucks that the Titan XD is in with the Cummins is NOT erased by the EPA and no website has published the numbers so here is some more info that you are just pulling out of your @$$ just like everything else you say. So please, show me where you are seeing the Titan XD's fuel economy.

So the Canyon has a new sale from a competitors brand. That does NOT mean of the 56% they are all tacomas and f150s. And for the caloraido that is 50% which also means 50% is was a GM repeat customer, not of coarse they will not say how many of them were previous chevy or GMC truck owners going to the smaller truck...

Isn't it ironic that the 2 companies that are doing better then GM is the ones that so happen to be the most traded in? I wouldn't trust GM for crap when you and I know that when there is a problem that is real expensive to fix, they just shut their mouths. GMC= Garage Machanic Companion.

Dream on Da, go do someresearch. While your at it learn to understand what you read moron!

Hey moron, do your math. The baby twins only account for 4.5% of total truck sales this year. Figure out the numbers, yes use your fingers and toes and don't let your sister distract you from counting. Not seeing a significant market share "Richard snot".

If you could read it would be easy to tell what trucks I'm talking about. Doing simple math will also show the same thing. I guess you have your sister on the brain.
