Ford Showcases 2017 Super Duty King Ranch at L.A. Auto Show

Our first chance to see a production-quality 2017 Ford Super Duty F-350 single-rear-wheel pickup truck happened at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, which runs through Sunday at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This fully loaded Super Duty King Ranch edition also had a brand-new 24-foot Airstream camper trailer hooked up behind it, ready for action as well.

The all-new Super Duty was first shown at the 2015 State Fair of Texas, where we learned the new heavy-duty pickups will use many of the same engineering and production strategies that made the lighter-duty 2015 Ford F-150 so impressive: aluminum body panels, unique bed features, and an impressive interior layout and execution, to name a few.

We'll be getting more information over the next several months as we get a closer look at the build process and the extensive testing program the Super Duty has to endure before it debuts in the third quarter of 2016.

Seriously, who at Ford thought that frontend is good looking? That grille and the headlights are really hard on the eyes, the rest of the truck looks good but man that face is fugly!

I really would like an air stream sport 22. But it costs $55,000. Air streams are about twice the price of other travel trailers same class pound for pound foot for foot. But I hear nothing but amazing praise for them.

Anyone here has an air stream? Are you happy with it?

"Ford drops 'Friends & Neighbors' sale early, opts for traditional year-end discounts

Ford Motor Co. is dropping its “Friends & Neighbors” promotion five weeks earlier than planned, after the offers failed to resonate with consumers as much as more traditional year-end discounts offered by competitors.

Ford hoped the promotion would help generate strong sales to close out 2015, a year in which its market share has been flat. Forecasts from TrueCar and Edmunds.com show Ford’s share in November flat with a year ago and down from October -- an indication that the promotion had not panned out as much as executives had expected."

The consumers have spoken! No one wants a ugly, cheaply built, beer can, AL gas hog v6 truck. That is unless you give it to them for free, and even that's not working for them HAHAHA!

Like the trim around the lights front and rear. What no comments about that low hanging air dam.

Where the hell are the moderators?

Is their traffic count down? It should be.

johnny doe,
Again the end of the month............and Frod release more information to soften the crowds and fans to the not so good numbers of vehicles moved. What is the vehicle (goose) that now lays the golden egg for Ford.......the all steel SuperDuty!

Last month is was seat frames...............

I wonder what December's excuse will be from Ford.

Luke,
If you look at the times when johnny doe's comment were released on the site you'll notice that there is down to a one second split with their submission.

I don't think anyone can cut and paste and re-submit a comment in one second.

This has occurred in the past on PUTC. A gremlin lives in PUTC's software.

I agree with johnny doe.

I do admire your continuing support, you are an avid fan of mine. I'm really humbled by this experience. Thanks.

Your comments though, do overstate my opinions. Since you are a Ford fan, please be accurate with the information you interpret and disseminate for others to peruse.

I do realize you are experiencing difficultly selling/marketing Frod on PUTC.

If you do like a particular brand (Ford, for example) and want to promote the product you then must be sincere.

If you are sincere, instead of your constant line of promoting Ford's mantra of load and tow and be realistic about the issues confronting your favourite brand your life will be much easier.

@michael
Airstreams were introduced 3 yrs. ago in Australia, they are primarily used in advertising and display sites for Commercial products. Retro Aluminium style, gives off Art Deco vibes.

That Ford Superduuty front end is hideous. Who signed off on that at Ford?

Seriously, y'all need a life.

Ford come sup with a great idea to make a better truck for the buyer and far too many people want to crap all over it. Grow up.

because, if you are gonna tow less then 6,000 pounds, you better get an F-350. The 250 would squat like a low rider, and the Ego Boost would suck too much gas pulling it.

Good to see all the gm guys running scared again because they know this Super Duty will blow them even further out of the water. Johnny blowhard and his many aliases know it too and it just brings out the stupidity even more. Ram even outsells them in the HD market. That's a kick in the balls for the gm guys. Oh by the way you can say that front end is ugly but Rams is worse. Way worse. These Super Duty's RULE the HD line up from anyone else. Always have.

Yeah I didn't post that a million times PUC.com must of freaked out. Like Big Alan said look at the time.

"this Super Duty will blow them even further out of the water."

Um Truck dumb dumb, have you ever read the HD Shoot outs from any website or mag? The GM trucks have been blowing the Super Duty out of the water every single year since 2001, and will continue to do.

From the last HD shootout:

"The Power Stroke dominated our acceleration and hill-climb tests, winning just about every zero-to-60-mph and quarter-mile run we set up. It even did incredibly well in our biggest exhaust brake tests, scoring light-years ahead of where they were the last time we tested a one-ton Ford Super Duty turbo-diesel.

Most of the issues we had with this 2015 Super Duty had to do with ride quality and interior (decorating) design."

-------

I'll also add that Ford came in 2nd in empirical with only 6 pts difference between GM and Ford.

8 tests won by GM and 7 tests won by Ford. A virtual tie with GM getting the edge.

Ram came in dead last in empirical scoring with more 100 pts behind GM.

Ford has an all new class leading interior and better ride now so the only issue PUTC had should go away. Ford trucks will keep reigning supreme.

Dave Z,
So, you will buy a pickup based on the biggest, mostest, largest, quickest, etc from a magazine article?

That funny, have a look at how many pickups sold don't meet what you expect.

Or, are you just a Ford fan making some noise?

The best isn't just about super sizing or bestest in class. It's how well do all of the "bestest" attributes work.

Like sport, you can have the bestest sportpeople on your team, but if they can't work together a rabble that can will win.

This is the problem Frod has, it might have many "bestest" in class attributes, but how well did Ford engineer them to work together??

Some candy for your thought.

I just hate those round wheel wells

And the front end,,,BARF !!!

All you need to tow that light Airstream is a Colorado Canyon

Can you say: "North American Truck of the Year" again

Just brought my 2015 A.E.V. Prospector Power Wagon home. Love all the LED lighting. Side mirrors light up the side, Extreme light bar mounted on the front really lights up the night and my Extreme fog lights. Like the clearance lights on the roof. Ipod connect for my tunes. Love 392 Hemi baby moves. She's a beast.

http://www.glendaledodgecalifornia.com/new/Ram/2015-Ram-2500-Glendale-b00393fb0a0a00a477fd16474d6eeba8.htm

It's still for sale and I'd say even if you did manage to buy it, you got taken. LED lighting is not worth $80k.

You really believe the dodge front end looks worse than the sd? You should put on your glasses and look again

2016 Ram HD front end:

LOL at almost $80k for that ugly piece of crap.

I'm glad you like you new Ram especially for 78k. I don't envy you though being that much in debt for a truck. Glad its you and not me.

Both that grill and the one Hemi posted are by far the ugliest grills out their. I thought maybe it would look better in person but it actually looks worse. I have seen 2 of those Rams in person and the only thing that came to mind was a JC Whitney catalog clearance sale.

The new F150 I was not overly a fan of based on pictures of the front end but actually seeing a lot in person on the streets I like it. I'm thinking the same will be true with the new Superduty.

Nice to see they stayed with the column shift.

Based on older Airstream trailers, there's a huge durability difference between them and the average "camper". Stuff made from wood and vinyl is simply not intended to go down the road much. If you plan on being on the move a lot, you'll notice the difference quickly.
For the length/space they're actually on the heavy side.

A good 1/2 ton can pull that trailer with out issues. You guys who complain about the front end looking bad, do you have a better idea? Side and tailgates are pretty simple. The front ,which if a person tows, needs a big grille, if not used for towing a grille like a vette has will work....

@Johnny blowhard, yep Ford blows gm out of the water year after year. There's a Super Duty for every job. You can tell that by how many are sold. People just know a real truck when they see one and they buy Fords because of that.

I once saw a Dodge Intrepid pulling an airstream this same size down I75.

funny how anybody that thinks the ford is more than a pile of junk is a "frod fan" to big al. Grow up.

That friends and neighbors pricing wasn't even a good deal. I checked the price on the exact truck my dad purchased in september and it was $1500 more. I think ford is learning if they want to sell more trucks they have to discount them the way chevy and ford do. Even with the friends and neighbors pricing ram and chevy had higher discounts.

the way chevy and *ram do.

The funny thing is the gmandrambots said Ford was gonna give away the trucks when they first heard about this program. And we told them that was not true, it was going to be an ok deal for a rookie, but not educated buyers. It turns out we were right. The deals were no better than they were before. The 2016 F-150s are still new so that is why there are no rebates and the deals aren't as good. GM and Ram trucks have more rebates and more inventory. But at the end of the day, Ford will still be #1 in sales at the end of the year.

Trucker, Chris T, Crazy Truck, Cummins or whatever your name is -

HEMI V8'S NEW truck costs that much because it is a POWER WAGON done up right by the guys at AEV with a LIFT, all the bells and whites including a snorkle, and a WARRANTY! If you don't like it, too bad. It's his money and he can spend it any way he likes!!!!!!!!

It is absurd to say that any manufacturer is going to give away any vehicle especially full size pickup. The profit margins are so high on trucks that they can discount them by a large percentage and still make a sizable profit. Ford, GM, Chrysler, and etc will not give any vehicle away. The dealer might take a loss on a vehicle that is not as popular and that they have had too long but even then the manufacturer usually gives them something and the dealer will make out with a much smaller profit. Manufacturers sell their vehicles to the dealers who then sell it to the final customer. The dealers are the manufacturers customers.

Read more about HEMI V8's truck here:

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2015/09/aev-hits-pay-dirt-with-ram-25003500-prospector.html

The basic AEV Prospector comes with the 3-inch suspension lift in front, 2.5 inches in the rear; includes a unique front bumper and badging; and offers 37-inch tires, which are about 4 inches taller than the biggest tire available from the factory. AEV also offers a slightly more complicated front-end lift if you want to run 40-inch tires. That includes wider fender flares and more accommodating outer bumper caps that give the front end better approach angles and moves the front live axle forward about 1 inch, all to better expose and fit the bigger front tires to any rock obstacles on the trail.

As you might expect, the AEV Prospector Ram is not inexpensive. First you select the new 4x4 Ram you want based on how stripped or loaded you want the interior in either 2500 or 3500 single-rear-wheel-drive configuration. Then start checking the AEV boxes that you want: wheel and tire size, bumper setup, winch or no winch, bed configuration, snorkel, etc. The well-equipped base-level package starts at just less than $14,000 on top of the price of a new Ram. That means you can be looking at anywhere from $60,000 to $80,000.

@Scott--Not everyone who reads and comments on this site is a fan boy. I have owned GM, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, and Mitsubishi products. I am open to any manufacture and would not hesitate to own any of them even Hyundai and Kia. If anything the fan boys make me less interested in their brand. If anything I am more likely to buy a vehicle from an Asian manufacturer especially after reading fan boy comments.

@ Me: I agree, the front on this SD has a face that only a mother could love. The rest of the truck looks somewhat o.k., except for those gay round wheel well openings.
@Joe: I once saw an Intrepid engine expire in front of me while we were waiting to drive through a car wash. Poof, smoke eveywere. LOL................Dodge! (Shakes head) LOL.
@ best way to cross the USA : I agree on everything and the Colorado.

I have no doubt Airstreams are much better built than the likes of Keystone, Jayco, Dutchmen etc, and at 5x the price, they better be. But unless you're sticking to KOAs, it would be silly to get one. I'd be happy with a 28' Springdale or Aspen Trail bumper pull for under $20k. If I wanted to spend 6 figures on a camper, I would get a Thor Class C on a Ford F550 diesel chassis https://thormotorcoach.com/fourwinds-super-c/floorplans/
