2016 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate Photo Gallery

Our photographer had a chance to get an up-close look at a production version of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate, which made its debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. The Denali Ultimate is a new level in luxury for the Sierra. It is only available on 4x4 crew-cab models that come with the 6.2-liter V-8 engine, but buyers do get a choice between a short bed (5 feet 8 inches) or long bed (6 feet 6 inches).

On top of the "regular" Denali, the Denali Ultimate adds unique front-end styling, new power steps and segment-exclusive magnetic-ride shocks that help to provide a smoother ride (empty or loaded). There is also an overload of technology and driver aids, including IntelliBeam headlamp controls, several collision avoidance technologies, a Bose sound system, wireless phone charging and OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hot-spot capability.

There are no official details on pricing yet, but our best guess puts the Denali Ultimate in the $60,000 range where it will compete with luxury trucks from Ford and Ram.

Since this truck is named after a mountain, should't this version be called the Denali Peak...maybe the Denali Summit.?...

Beautiful truck with cool useful technology like digital assist steering and magnetic-shocks. Two new technologies from the technology leader, GM. Wait, in a couple years, LMAO and Scott will claim FORD leads in those technologies. What a joke those 2 ford fan girls are.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA you are clearly a joke there GMRNOTGREAT. Take a look at electric power steering before talking about matters you have no clue about. Your comment is truly hilarious. Magnetic shocks pretty cool. Power steering assist, yes GM is behind the ball on this one. Nice try there GMISTRYINGTOKEEPUP. HAHAHAHAHA LMAO. Look up F150 park assist.

Whats the payload?

Very big grille and a flimsy bumper. It will be much better looking with the grille bottom aligned with the bottom of the lights. That will leave room for a much stronger bumper.

@LMAO; please explain how GM is behind the ball on the power steering assist. LOL

That is one UGLY grille

@LMAO: park assist, LOL. Digital steering aids in making the towing experience smoother and offers better control of the load being carried or towed. Parking assist is a gimmick.

Before you continue to look ridiculous look up Park Assist and electric power steering and how they work. While your at it, look up trailer sway control. Again something Ford has had for a few years now. Even my Escape has trailer sway control because I purchased the trailer tow package. You are way to easy. You truly have your bowtie goggles on for sure. I'm thinking you are so blind with that bowtie in your eye you may need to buy a Ford vehicle that can drive itself if you want to leave your driveway.

Parking assist is a gimmick.

Posted by: GMSRGREAT | Dec 29, 2015 5:38:56 PM

Why? Is it because just about everyone else has it except your precious GM? Please, step away from the bowtie goggles and look out the window.

Think I might wait for the Denali Ultimate Platinum Tip.

Denali has lost it's prestige because GMC wasted the name on the rest of the line up. Now they're trying to find new names. Unfortunately, ultimate doesn't sound luxurious... What's wrong with platinum?

@LMAO: GM has sway control, had for years, it is a part of the stabilitrac system that GM is light years ahead of FORD. Try and keep up.

Still don't understand why people waste 10 to 20 grand more on these *luxury trucks*.

The mag ride is cool.... It's around the sport car arena, various other manufactures for awhile now. Fords first use of it is in the gt350. Would suck paying extra for it though if you have any intentions of modified suspension for better offroad performance and clearances or when it comes time to replace your shock absorbers.

Electricity power steering and trailer sway control.... Meh.... it's been around in pickups for awhile now.

Hmmm, you really do not look anything up there do you bowtie bandit.

I will give you a hint on what you will find. GM announces in 2013 they will offer trailer sway control..................Drum roll please................................................................................ Ford has it in 2009. HAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHA

@LMAO: so I read through the 2009 ford towing propaganda pdf, five minutes of my life i'll never get back, and i'm sorry but integrated brake controller isn't sway control. LMFAO. In fact the work sway wasn't mentioned in the entire article
Wait for it..........................your wrong again.
Hey get back to me with something official that mentions actual sway control.

Gmsgreat. Good to see gm catching up to ford and ram on last decade tech

It looks like your reading skills are about as good as GMs ability to keep up with Ford. Page 3 bottom left.

Don’t forget to learn about some of the F-150’s excellent new towing
features including standard trailer sway control, available integrated
trailer brake controller, Tow/Haul mode, and the rearview camera.

Oh my, this is an epic fail again for GMSNOTSOGREAT. LMAO.

@Scott: I can't argue with that.

How about this gmsgreat

Man, your bowtie goggles are on tight. Please proceed to gently lift them up and look out the window.

@LMAO: I concede that Ford has had trailer sway control before GM, but stabilitrac is still like years ahead of what ever ford eventually came up with.

GMC is a brand for the mid-level managers working office jobs. Thus it is rarely used for real work. Who would? When you are spending $50k plus for a luxury pickup, anything that might result in dents and scratches is going to be avoided.

I will give you credit for trying so hard. It must pain you to know you are getting schooled right now. It is very evident you are trying sooooooooo hard. Before I start, when did GM come out with stabilitrac?

but stabilitrac is still like years ahead of what ever ford eventually came up with.

Nope not really. They are pretty much one in the same and there function is the same.

@LMAO and Scott: with your blue oval glasses blurring your sense of reality. Here is the real leader in electric power steering systems on pick-up trucks.

The real leader??????????? it could only be used in a high voltage application because they did not have the tech to run off of lower voltage. Hardly a checkmate. And yes I did spell that correctly while you did not. Please try again. Epic fail once again there GMSNOTSOGREAT. Oh, does GM use electric power steering in their current trucks since 2010?

Um. Gmsgreat
Ford was industry first 12 volt system. Next steer system needed hybrid voltage.
I already posted this earlier but will again for your reading pleasure.... This new tech to the Denali has been in fords since 2011.....

@LMAO:checkmate!

@LMAO and Scott: Burned! Lmfao..hahahahaha

@LMAO and Scott, more so LMAO: At least i'm man enough ( because I drive a Silverado) to fess up when I was wrong. But you 2 squeal little school girls.

I will admit when I am wrong but so far you have been. So I can see the need for you to apologize for being wrong and sending wrong information. I am sorry your bow tie is way to tight and cutting of blood flow to your brain. But I do find it funny you think your a man for driving a Silverado.

There you go little buddy!

Gm needs electric power steering control like ford has had for awhile now so they can add self parking features and a ford pro trailer backing system. They need these things so they can compete in luxury segment with ford in there pickup line. Heck you still have to manually lower the tailgate on a gm.

GMSNOTSOGREAT, just remember you started this whole thing with your second post. So please next time inform yourself before spouting off foolish mistruths. But at least I am man enough to see other auto manufactures and see some good things they offer like the magnetic shocks. You refuse to have a clue and keep your bowtie in front of your eyes.

@Scott: why would I read about this http://articles.sae.org/8912/' when I could read about it from the leader in that area here: http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/05/electric-power-steering-is-coming-to-light-duty-pickup-trucks.html

I love Denali's but this is stupid. Magnetic Ride was already standard and a differential between regular denali and the SLT and SLE, ect, so not sure whats up with this article.

The best GMC pickup truck is the SLT with the 6.2 and MAX TOW, and tow mirrora, it has more than enough options and the ride is fine.

Electric power steering didn't appear on the gm pickups until 2014.....

And how many batteries are needed for this very limited production vehicle that no one bought? And who has it working on a common high volume vehicle. Kinda hard to be a leader when it has to be plugged into your house to power up.

@LMAO: Get over yourself. 2004 GM released electric power steering on the then new Chevy Cobalt. Read the article I posted about the GM twins pioneering once again new technology, this time electric power steering on a pick-up. Just admit it, GM was there first. You will probably still wake up tomorrow morning "believing" ford is the best and the first at EVERYTHING.
Oh, stabilitrak 1997, Ford's version of ESC.........Wait for it.........2000.

Hey GMSRNOTSOGREAT - it's clear GM is playing catch up once again & just accept it, take it like a man...

Scott, you can deny it all you want. Here is an excerpt from the article I posted:

Only GM's 2009-10 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Two-Mode Hybrid pickups offered EPS Electric power steering.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

And it wasn't adaptable to a non hybrid pickup. Ford had the first 12 volt system in a pickup beefie enough for truck duty.

@Scott: Read both article's that you and I posted. They both make mention of a spin off company from GM called nexteer. I believe Ford is using that system modified for 12 volt electrical systems . Can you imagine, ford using GM developed technology. I would research this before spreading anymore false infor about ford developed EPS.

Nexteer helped gm design there 42 volt eps. Nexteer help ford design there 12 volt system.... I would guess nexteer help gm design they 12 volt truck system. Gm didn't have a 12 volt system for trucks until several years after what ford and nexteer did..... It prolly not as much gm coping ford or ford coping gm as it is both of them using nexteer or what they learn from nexteer.

https://m.facebook.com/NexteerAuto/posts/10101955964568242

@Scott: That is a nice piece of research. I think we can both agree that we learned something today. Are you listening LMAO?

I am surprised that GM didn't match the F-150 by going with aluminum or no frame, uni-body construction , weight reduction.
When is the solid rear axle going to disappear with independent rear suspension?
When are they going to replace the transmission with a CVT ?

Nothing new here to see!
Nothing innovative to excite anybody.

....excuse me for a double post but this idea that popped in my mind is too good not to post.
I have an idea for a new pickup design.
design a flat boxer engine that fits under the truck bed that w/o a driveshaft that the transmission and the drive axle is all one unit and keep the front hood and use that as a trunk to store all your goodies.
Design the floor of the truck bed that flips up like a hood to gain access to maintain and repair the engine and driveline.
One great advantage is the weight of the engine will have a center and lower center of gravity that will balance the truck perfectly for race car like handling plus greatly improve traction plus if the engine catches on fire you'll be safe cause the fire will burn behind the cab.

whata ya think?
great idea huh?
