Recall Alert: 2016 Ford F-650, F-750
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 170 model-year 2016 Ford F-650 and F-750 work trucks built at the Ohio Assembly Plant between June 18 and Nov. 15, 2015
The Problem: The air brake jounce hoses could contact the truck's rear axle housing while the vehicle is in operation; this could cause a leak and the inadvertent application of the parking brake or diminished parking performance and increase the risk of a crash. Ford said it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
The Fix: Dealers will install a rear brake air chamber replacement and will also inspect the brakes and parking brake air lines for damage and replace them as needed; all repairs will be done free of charge.
What Owners Should Do: Ford did not release an owner identification schedule. Owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332 or enter their vehicle identification number here.

Well, it seems with more and more, hoses, wiring harnesses, etc vehicles are getting more of these types of recalls.
I suppose probability is the answer, plus the manufacturers not keeping up design with technology.
The cheapest way is the best way.
@Big Al,
The big trucks in the F-series (F650 for example) appear to be produced in some fairly small numbers. Fewer than 200 trucks were made during that period of production referenced in this story, evidently.
The process is almost a make-to-order proposition, compared to make-to-stock (or make to ship?) process you see with light duty trucks like an F150.
Not surprising these sorts of quality issues occur in that kind of manufacturing environment. It happens.
papa jim,
This is a big deal
Not many vehicles are affected, but not many were made. Poor quality control is the issue.
I am hearing that many more problems have slipped through the net but have not been recalled yet.
Ford could be looking at big fines by the EPA, DOJ and NHTSA!

Fewer than 200 were recalled. Not made. Thousands were made and they sold about 5k during that period.
RIF. Reading is fundamental.
Oh noooo part 2.

I have to ask why that would even happen. These are pretty new vehicles that are recalled right away. It is not like the Fiat and GM fiasco where they both hid the facts of the failures and under reported deaths.

Some people do not understand that these trucks come with either air brakes or hydraulic. Hydraulic is pretty common.
@Scott, the process I was describing is the same either way.
The bigger F Series trucks are made in very small numbers compared to an F 150, and are very configurable.
For those who don't have any background in auto-making or tool/die for that matter, make to order processes are so different from common make to stock processes that the number of errors or the way it's tracked is really different.
The corporate customers who buy big Fords or GMCs won't even blink over a story like this.
It's kinda hard to see air lines moving around when the truck is on the assembly line. Scuffed air lines can be a dot write-up.
papajim,
I agree that lots of the engineering would be done on the "shop floor" so to speak with these vehicles.
And you are correct, these don't sell in huge numbers.
The cheapest way is the best way.

Amen! As long is Ford is number one in something. Profit is the most important factor. How much per unit? Not how many units. :-)
