2016 Ford Shelby F-150 Is Off-Roading Heaven

It's not often that a customized pickup truck at an auto show catches our eye, but the 2016 Ford Shelby F-150 on the floor of the 2016 Chicago Auto Show did just that. To see our video about the truck, click here.

Born from a partnership between Shelby American and Tuscany Motor Co., the half-ton pickup will offer a select group of buyers an extremely capable truck that will stand out wherever it goes, on or off-road. Using the Shelby brand name (made famous by Carroll Shelby's special high-performance Mustangs and GTs) and emblazoned with his famous cobra logo inside and out, this special-edition truck aims to be a balanced combination of muscular style and performance.

Some might remember the Ford F-150 Tonka that Tuscany displayed at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show in its iconic yellow glory. That was the first of its Ford offerings (Tuscany offers several GM special editions. Tuscany announced its partnership with Shelby at the 2015 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show.

Some might think the truck is all about looking wild with the bulging hood, extended flares and custom grille, but there are several solid performance upgrades. Buyers can stay with the stock 5.0-liter V-8 with 385 horsepower, or they can check the engine performance box to get close to 700 hp with the addition of a high-output supercharger (and a few other pieces) that costs about $12,000.

This pickup also uses a 3.5-inch suspension lift with Fox Racing shocks to accommodate the 35-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires. Shelby uses custom beadlock rims to finish off the imposing stance of the truck. The truck is offered in five colors, each with the requisite Shelby double racing stripes down the middle of the truck. To finish off the sleek look, Tuscany includes a hard tonneau cover (also with the racing stripes); a standard bed rug keeps cargo safe from scratches.

Since all Shelby F-150s are based on the Lariat trim level, much of the interior looks familiar (wood grains, chrome accents and soft leather), but Shelby does add a few logos and stitching accents, as well as a limited-edition nameplate on the dash with the build number out of the 500 to be produced.

Pricing for the Shelby package, as you might expect, is steep and can add as much as $40,000 to price of the pickup. The price tag for the Shelby F-150 displayed at the Chicago Auto Show (which has every option available) was just less than $100,000. Not for the faint of heart, but you're likely to get a Ford pickup no one has seen before.

To find out more about this performance pickup, call Tuscany Motor Co. at 800-839-7551.

It looks good, but again Tuscany over priced it. Wheels/tires, lift, and supercharger kit will run ya $8K, including the price of wheel and tires over the stock Lariat wheels and tires...then $3-4K for stripes... $40K..sheeeesh

Hate to break the bad news but the new Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is more of an off-roader than these beast! Not taking credit where it is due for this Ford but the Tacoma is smaller, less weight and nimbler to handle off-roading better than these full-size beasts!

It also costs a lot less which opens up the door for easy modifications to make it even better!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, oxi...

But your offroad Tacoma doesn't have the weight advantage it once had.

Did you know the 2017 Raptor lost 700 lbs? You added 1,000 lbs to your Taco. This isn't a Raptor. But there will soon be no real difference in weight now.

You can take that to the bank!

AMENDED NEWS FLASH:
The Tacoma is a great beginner truck for college-age women.
This Ford-beast is the real deal for men who want a real truck that needs no explanation.

If the eco boost is so great why did they go with the 5.0 v8???

This truck is more of a show truck then an off-roader. I'd be better off getting the Tacoma TRD Pro or the Ram Power Wagon. Nice truck though, but over priced.

such a great off-roader they didn't even put a diff skid plate over the diff cross members. I see wide open LCA bolts and a straight shot for the diff to get hit.
Also the exhaust out the back worsens departure angle, again hindering off-road performance.

I also see rust already forming where the CVs go into the knuckle on the head on shot.

Hey does anyone else think that if they put the new 5.2 flat plane in the raptor it would be even better then the ecoboost. I wonder how much it would cost to swap it.

Shelby makes road race cars. Now offroad trucks? I don't know man maybe they should've done a regular cab street truck. What do I know? I can't afford it either way

Who can afford it?

For the price, it better be awesome.

#overpriced Ford

How about the rumors of them putting a ecoboost 302 V8 in the 2018 raptor along side the 3.5 eco

SKEETER - please point out any 4 banger Shelby's.

Not many would buy this as an off road vehicle.

You would be far better off buying a "standard" Raptor and modifying it yourself.

You can tailor the vehicle to more specifically suit what you want.

The problem with the Raptor it is one of the least capable full size pickups on the market.

What is it good at, other than screaming across a desert? I do believe a TRD Taco is a better proposition for off roading as mentioned above. It will get you further and carry more weight, ie, tents, and camping gear.

The Raptor will need to be floated in behind a truck so additional fuel can be made available along with your camping gears.

The support truck will need 4x4 should be able to tow the Raptor, carry your camping gear, the Raptor's fuel, food etc, as the Raptor will be unable to carry this. Just imagine if you want to go fishing! You'll really be stuck.

Just ask our PUTC's resident Load and Tow expert Lou_BC as he will agree with me regarding the flexibility this vehicle offers, just for a weekend getaway.

@ Big AL, my advice to you is to actually go drive this vehicle(and the Raptor) and experience it for yourself instead of commenting on what you think it does.

Don't worry Big Al.

I bet for that kind of money you could probably get them to drop a small diesel in there and it wouuld be the perfect off-roader for you.

Let's face it if this thing said Mazda on it you'd be putting one in the spank bank right now

gooday mate!

@Lou:I'm not Skeeter, but I have a couple of four banger Shelbys, 87 Shelby Z and 88 Carroll Shelby Competion Series Daytonas.

2.2 Dodge turbos. One is a Turbo 2.

But you asking Skeeter about four cylinders, when he/she asked why isn't it a v-6?

My guess is it would break the poor thing.

Wow, spend 100,000 K on this, 8 K on sales tax, then get hammered on property tax, so you can keep it covered up and baby it cause it's a collector thing?

Yeah.....NO.

(SKEETER - please point out any 4 banger Shelby's.)
What is this comment for makes no sense.

Guaranteed some jackass will buy one. Like P.T. Barnum
said, there's a sucker born every minute and that truck is
about an hours worth.

don't care about off-roading, all I want is a truck with brakes that stop and I don't want to pay for an expensive brake job every 5000 miles and it's embarrassing using wheel chocks cause the parking brake doesn't work on a newer late model truck.

The concept is pretty cool and for those with the bucks to buy one they will like the vehicle as long as they don't actually buy it. The quality control for Shelby products has went to complete crap in the last few years and this will simply be another example of that. With all of the off road stuff I wonder if it'll have a limited slip or locking diff in the front like a Raptor. One of the nice things about the Raptor is the locking rear and limited slip front which makes for an impressive truck whether it be mud, snow, sand, clay, etc. In 4 wheel drive you should have 4 wheels working. The same reason the Rubicon Jeep, Power Wagon, H3 Alpha (w/adventure package) were also kings of the off road for a stock truck.

@Skeeter - "If the eco boost is so great why did they go with the 5.0 v8???"

I was being sarcastic because the only non-Shelby V8's were over at Chrysler.

TRXTom graciously listed them.

@BARFo - funny how the Raptor's payload all of a sudden matters to you.

It doesn't matter with the Ecodiesel or Titan XD.........

So why the Fork should it matter now?

Oh

Wait for it..........

Wait for it..........

It is a Ford!!!!!!!!

Actually, That is one of the reasons I wouldn't want one.

Nice to see that you have actually pulled your head out of your AZZ and is accepting the importance of cargo ratings.

Long time coming.

Cheers.

You finally get it.

The bumper needs exhaust cut outs. That exhaust hangs to low for offroading plus it just doesn't look as neat as Ram's dual exhaust.

Seems about 80% of the "truck loving" public responding here has positively no idea what they're talking about!

This Shelby is what we know is a "one off," not a factory production vehicle. To compare it to any factory-made vehicle is simply useless and a complete waste of time. Bringing up silly things like how the Tacoma is better when you've never even seen the thing in person is also silly. The Ram Power Wagon is better than ever, but you've likely never seen it at play either and on top of all that, we haven't even seen this Shelby except at a show!

How is it that all you guru's know so much?

I hope some who have posted here and are likely to post here will go read about the various vehicles being mentioned and take note that they truly do not compare to this. This Shelby is made for collectors, not off-roaders.

In full form, this Shelby product will run somewhere around $85,000 before tax, but it will be 1 of 500 as opposed to 1 of 5,000 or 50,000.

It has a standard V8 because Shelby likes it and is famous for powerful V8's and while Ford probably would not have allowed the EcoBoost in this case, they do allow Shelby to build up V6 vehicles if they want. I think Shelby even modified a Focus at some point... with a 4 cylinder.

A 3.5 liter atkinson-cycle V6 is not going to compare with the high end V8. Sorry, but I find it annoying when those who don't have a clue insist on chiming in as if they're really a pro.

Be a fan of whatever you like, but get educated and use some common sense before you talk about how great what you like is as compared to something you don't have any knowledge of in the first place

maybe Ford is better to concentrate on quality truck and not quantity ,,,or show room truck ,,

@ bugspray... 100,000 K ? That sounds fairly expensive! $100,000 after taxes, on the other hand, is also expensive, but a solid 10 times less than what you just wrote. lol

Before tax, expect the SHELBY in this case to max out around 85 or 90k. Considering the Lariat is a $45,000 truck using four-wheel drive and supercrew, plus the fact they said you'll add $40,000 if you add every option, I don't see this going over 100k. There will be changes and markups will happen, so it probably will overall.

Considering sales tax, it's probably near 100k OTD in max form. States run by idiots, such as West Virginia, definitely charge property tax on vehicles, but it seems most do not. I have lived in four states and none of them did.

As for breaking the V6, that's obviously not the case or Ford wouldn't be using the 3.5L EcoBoost to power the new Raptor... and they definitely are.

Take your good trucks move to Asia stop draining economy with more American $$ going to gooks buying MY country up.

Lipstick on a pig, nuff said.

I say the same things about gm's midnight edition. More lipstick on a pig for sure! Just a cheaper cut.

Is this site really still trying to brag up this POS? I think Ram has nailed it. This is how smart 80% of Ford owners act.... dumb! LMBO!!!

You have to love the Ford articles here. All the anti Ford cry babies come out to try and derail the article. I could not imagine my life being so sad where I felt it important to try post that crap. Just think, all that time wasted by some of these complete losers where they could be working and support the economy by working. Nothing worse than welfare cry babies.

I'm not sure where I mentioned $100k but my comment was mainly directed at bafro since he constantly has to bash ford for whatever reason and then claim he not biased. He wants a diesel in everything and bashes this truck for it's lack of payload and fuel economy yet the ecodiesel can't haul anything and isn't really marketed as a specialty vehicle.

Diesel power is great don't get me wrong but it's not an economical choice in most cases. Just a cash cow for the manufactures.

Yes It's sad LMAO clown won't go get a job, instead he sits up on here posting comments to everyone that made him butt hurt all night and day. Maybe he will get Obummer to make taxpayers spent money on lazy fools like him too. LMBO!

Hey loser LMAO kid, when I'm the boss that employs trust worthy hard working people. I don't have to work much, have fun pretending your on vacation wellie bum LMBO! Have a nice day.

@LMAO
Is that a vacation, holding your smartphone and posting on PUT ? That must be horrible vacation. I am on vacation too then.

Don't worry guys, leaving out of the country for vacation coming up.sometimes you have to burn the time in between flights and it is fun to see the loser posts from zveir and the welfare child johnny welfare doe. Fyi welfare doe, putting your children to work by cutting the lawn and doing dishes does not mean a whole lot to me. I to have workers but they actually do important work that benifits the public.

I don't post when on vacation. Only ford loser does.

Zvier, based on your post, your always on vacation.

How did you get to this conclusion? It doesn't make sense. I cleaely said: " I don't post when on vacation. Only ford loser does." Are you still waiting for your flight poor guy ?

Mentally fiat boy, mentally. I guess that is over your head like just about everything else.
