Chevrolet Silverados Offer Surround-View Cameras

Silverado Cams 4 II

Chevrolet today announced a new backup camera retro-fit kit available for the current-generation Silverado 1500 and Silverado Heavy Duty pickup trucks for model years 2014 to 2016.

Chevy is a little late to the party on this one. Ram offered the first factory-available bed camera two years ago, while the new 2017 Ford Super Duty has been shown with an integrated 360-degree-view camera setup for trailering.

Chevy is making the new side-mirror and rearview cameras available for vehicles that already have towing mirrors. The new system also will allow for two externally mounted wireless cameras, one for mounting on the back of a trailer and the other for inside the trailer to keep an eye on cargo.

Silverado Monitors 4 II

The new system will be activated by pressing and holding radio home button for five seconds, then selecting the trailer camera view you want. You can even have three cameras displayed on the viewing screen at the same time. Chevrolet has partnered with EchoMaster to create the camera setup to minimize blindspots and help customers who tow large, long horse, camper or cargo trailers. Later this summer, Chevy also will offer a separate camera that can be integrated into the center high-mounted stop light to give the driver a view of cargo in the bed or to help with lining up a fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailer.

The new retro-fit package will be available through dealership by the end of April and will cost $999 (prices do not include tax and installation fees). The system will be fully warrantied by EchoMaster.

Chevy also announced that 2016 Silverado HDs will now offer a factory-installed fifth-wheel/gooseneck frame-mounted hitch that will include a seven-pin in-bed trailering plug and all the necessary wiring. The new package will be available for $350 and will be compatible with all GM trailering accessories such as the gooseneck completion kit ($315), the 20,000-pound fifth-wheel platform ($939) and the 25,000-pound fifth-wheel platform ($999).

Ford fans already hate it.

Ford have a camera just to watch if they don't lose any truck part ,,or loose bolts,,:))

I hate Ford.

This is a better camera than Fords.

Ford's camera is for girly men.

Just like integrated trailer brake controller, glad Chevy finally showed up.

Cameras are super cool. Love backups and 360 views.

The manufacturers love them as they add to the sticker price.

GMC welcome to the party, Ford already had 360 cameras, GM still last

Welcome GM to the factory bed liner and 5th wheel prep that has been around for some time.

that wireless option looks to be really cool (nobody has it yet) you can place a camera where ever you're backing your trailer to and guide your self with it, it's like another persor is standing there by better.

@Fred, I got that with my 2011 F250....sort of, since I was buying a camper, I got the wireless camera and monitor for in the truck, then when I got the camper, mounted camera on my camper so I could see behind me when backing up, it is really cool.

GM is always late at releasing features like this, DON'T YOU KNOW THEY HAVE TO COPY FORD, THEN TEST IT, THEN RELEASE IT.

It can take years for GM. Glad you can join us GM

What are they going to do. Go take a loan for $999.00 to pay for retro fit. When it could have been built into the $60,000 truck price when they bought the truck new. You bet Chevy loves this. pure profit. Again, late to the Party. Next thing you know GM will be offering " Blondestar" to help get out of a locked Truck.

Didn't all the GM fangirls make fun of these cameras when Ford added them?? Made some pretty bad comments if I remember correctly. How about that heated steering wheel they made fun of? How about Fords tailgate step. Made fun of that too. Now look, they are all eating CROW!!

It is good to see GM is now offering more cameras. When you start using them it really does help the driver a lot. Anything I order new must come with a backup camera at minimum. People are to stupid anymore and will walk right behind you even if you are backing up and have the back up alarm. So this helps the drivers that much more. And protects the company from lawsuits. The wireless camera looks like it is from zone defense. Good name in camera systems. We buy a lot of their camera systems.

Looks like a afterthought

Awesome. Cutting into factory wiring harness or running no factory wires around the truck and into the heady it..... Brilliant!!!! What could possibly go wrong when the lube tech at the gm shop starts stuffing wires around the truck.

More like GM waits to see how Ford screws up their latest "innovation", then GM designs and makes it the correct way and releases it a year later.

GM already have video feeds in the wiring harness for the back-up camera, easy to install, no 'hacking' necessary.

We're still making fun of Ford's pansy step. It's overpriced, overrated junk. I hate GM's but they atleast made it their step simple and free.

@skinner,

What ever makes you sleep in the fetal position with your thumb in your mouth at night. Your comment was uber idiocy.

How does that step work out with a truck cap on? Or when the rear bumper is full of debris or mud? Granted the step is a much better design than the afterthought fiat uses with their retractable JC Whitney step. Talk about an odd piece of crap just hung under the bumper just collecting crap from the road. I hated the Ford side bed foot step, the rear is even worse. What i would like is the tailgate step Ford uses (works extremely well) along with the integrated bumper step. Combine the two and you have a winning combination.

There is a lot more into it than just "hook it up". First of all you need a signal line to turn on the camera and provide a power and ground. You can run the same feed wire but only one camera at a time unless you can program the system to stream both cameras at the same time. Buy no matter what you need to run wire to the back to add more cameras unless GM has it prewired. And with all my experience with working on GM vehicles there is no additional wiring. They barely give you enough to even work on the components you are working on. They are stingy when it comes to providing any additional wiring.

@ramme, I could care less what you think about Fords step. It beats the ram hands down. Didnt ram have the heated steering wheel first? GM sure stole that one from you bunch of losers really quick.

How does that step work out with a truck cap on?

Isn't the Ford man step redundant with a truck cap. You can't stand up on the tailgate without hitting your head on the open cap lift door. Neither works with a truck cap.

Speaking about stand up on the tailgate...My best friend ran away with my wife. It's only been three days and I really miss him.

So they already have the wiring for a camera up at the 3rd brake light and out on the trailer tow mirrors???? Or do they just have vid input on the back of the head unit. If the wring is to all the spots why didn't they offer factory cameras to begin with if they are going to wire it. Truth be told the headline and door panels have to come off to run wires.... Plug and play is only right behind the head unit.

Dilatory.

Here is how it's done.... Gm is scrambling to keep up.

welcome to the party generic motors..always playing catch up to the much better competition, FORD....and that gm HD is the fugliest truck on the road

Ok ,several things. First I think you argue and oppose just to do just that. It does not matter if your right or wrong (which you are wrong way more) but you don't read what you type.

1 "the Ford man step redundant with a truck cap." Do you know what redundant You can't stand up on the tailgate without hitting your head on the open cap lift door. Neither works with a truck cap.

2 "You can't stand up on the tailgate without hitting your head on the open cap lift door. Neither works with a truck cap."

Ummmmm yea, you cannot stand up in the bed either with a cap. Not sure where you are going with that. This also tells me you have not even used a truck with a cap so why are you even speaking. We have quite a few F350s and 450s with cab height caps and what I call story and a halfs. No body has had any issues at all using the step with the cap door open. I am 6'2" and don't have a problem using the step but my legs are long enough and I am fit enough I don't use it. The door is open higher than the cap ceiling and you have to pay attention but it is easier than a bumper step. But as I have already said, if you could have both that would be great. Please try and keep up.

@ LMAO : both are redundant with a truck cap. Without the truck cap the GM corner step is superior for accessing the truck box.
Period!

We need more cameras to watch the Furds in the rear gettung smoked by our 6.2's and to turn around and pick up our misguided Furd friends when their brakes fail in their Ecobusts, going to be over 500k recalled, first number is way off.

Who doesn't love this commercial?

My 2010 Tacoma's camera is better than this...

Not only do you NOT know anything about trucks, using trucks for work, anything mechanical inclouding forced induction, you do not even know the meaning of your own words you are using, ie redundent. You have no proof to even support your theory. The bumper step is best in certain applications and the Ford step is much better in other applications. Once again you prove yourself to be a complete fool.

I had the towing mirrors added to my GMC Sierra this year because it was tough to see when I had my camper attached. The towing mirrors were not an option (yet) when I purchased my 2015 GMC, so they had to be done afterwards. I bought the OEM mirrors at $700. Then was told the software needed to be updated which would cost $150, or for $300 they would do the install and update. Fine... So $1000 at the end of the day just for friggin' mirrors. Don't get me wrong, I can now. But while I do think these cameras will help, I can't see spending another $1000 on the cameras. That's 2K extra for mirrors and the cameras. Thanks, but no thanks. That said, I do love the backup camera. It is extremely helpful when hooking up to trailers and my camper.

Well looks like cobaltsrgreat can use a Google dictionary. Now pay close attention to the words. A cap and a step is not the same thing. So you cannot robe redundant with 2 different items. A step you step on and a cap covers the bed. Man that GM jungle juice is really taking a toll on your brain cells. They are hardly functioning. Please stop before you continue to look dumber than johnny welfare doe. You are getting really close now.

@LMAO : Post a link with video of someone using the man step on a pick-up with a regular cab height cap or even one with the step up cap.

Look it up yourself cobaltsrgreat if you cannot figure out how to use the step. Maybe Howie-Long can help you how.

Howie has already been a help.

Here I copied this for you since you have short term memory loss. Probably old timers disease. You questioned standing on the tail gate. I already said you do not have to stand on the tail gate to get into a truck with a cap. I measured 52" from tail gate to cap door lid. If you cannot make that work, well, you are just stupid. So you use the man step to step on the tail gate and position yourself onto the tailgate withing a 52" window and go in. Fyi you have to crouch even lower to get into the cap. The door opens much higher than the inside cap hieght.

@ LAMO : when it comes to using Ford's man step on a pick-up truck cab height cap, find a video of a 6 ft tall person who can :
1. practically climb up onto the tailgate and back down to the ground without embarrassing himself .
2. soiling their clothing doing so.
3.and it cannot be a cirque de soleil performer.

So a video of you before you started wearing depends.

@ LAMO! Sorry, I won't own a Ford with their poor brakes, so no soiled clothing.

Man this Ford clown kid LMAO is such a tool. Has to be the dumbest 20 year old on this site.
