2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Set to Take Over China

2017 Raptor Side II

In a blatant attempt for world domination, Ford will be exporting the 2017 Ford Raptor SuperCrew to China. Although China does not have many off-road parks or designated 4x4 trails, much of the country offers a good amount of challenging terrain, desperately in need of the Raptor's rugged suspension and new terrain management four-wheel-drive system, equipped with six different driving modes.

Ford has had great success shipping the Ford Raptor to countries in the Middle East and no doubt this decision was made with big profits in mind, as the exclusivity and capability of this unique pickup will come with premium pricing. We've heard that many of the Saudi Arabian Raptors sell at or near $100,000. Of course, Ford is not saying how many of the new Raptors are likely to make it across the Pacific Ocean but if early consumer enthusiasm is any indication, the number is likely to be significant.

"The F-150 Raptor is the ultimate showcase of the tough capability available throughout Ford's family of trucks and SUVs," said John Lawler, chairman and CEO, Ford Motor China. "By introducing it to the world's largest auto market, we hope to inspire a new generation of off-road enthusiasts, and demonstrate how we are always bringing our customers new innovations."

All exported Raptors will be SuperCrews (meaning four full-size doors and a 5.5-foot bed) with the new, high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine and 10-speed transmission. China will be the 96th market where the Ford F-150 is sold.

The Chinese will just laugh at this " look at me " F-150. The Chinese want classy vehicles like Buicks.

I guess that F150 ripoff copy didn't pan out so well.

We can ultimately see why so many markets would want FORD quality and not Ram duds.

Iv, already had the FORD quality.

That's the reason why Ford made the new F-150 SMALLER

Way too funny Papa Jim!! Best quote I've seen on here in a long time.

And another thing...Off Roading in China???

I think they call it DRIVING over there.

There are probably more miles of paved streets/highways in Lubbock Texas than the whole damn country of China for God's sake.

I hope Ford does do well with the Raptor in China........ April first has been an gone.

World domination and the Raptor is a very successful vehicle in the oil rich Arab nations is a little bit (or huge) over statement.

Good bit of humor Marcus!

papajim,
It's good to be all Stars and Stripes, like most of us.

There is one exception. Your comment makes you look like a fool.

Did you know China's national highway system is much larger than the US national highway system? I'm speaking of a limited access system.

But, luckily most of us Stars and Strips types are not like you, an insecure individual.

I suppose you are weak and must put others down to hide you lack of confidence in yourself and others', particularly our great nation the USA.

Please don't make all of us look like you.

Well, they do have their children building the Buick over there, you would think they would want to support their children's jobs.

More quintessential proof that the One Ford works. It’s always a gamble for an automaker to try new things. When that gamble fails it usually results in a big loss. Car companies will normally man up and take some responsibility, but not always.

In 2012 Ford released a lemon, the Focus, and one option was Ford's PowerShift dual-clutch semi-automatic transmission. The models of Fiesta and Focus from 2011/2012-2015 respectively were infected with a horrible issue where the transmission would shudder while going from first to second gear, with the issue sometimes continuing into third gear.

This has caused consumers who have purchased a Fiesta from 2011-2015, or Focus from 2012- 2015 (with the PowerShift transmission) to file lawsuits and in some cases create petitions, one of which has over 2,000 signatures. The transmission is covered under a warranty, and Ford must have had some idea of what was going on. After all, the warranties were extended a few times up to seven years. However, many customers say bringing the car in to fix the transmission does not solve the problem. Customers have reported leaving dealerships after service with the problem still present.

Yeah quintessential proof that the One Ford works!

Yeah these Mexican companies are doing great. Now we should get an American manufacturer to try the same thing.

You would think the Chinese manufacturer (gm) would have brought their truck there first.

Just showing the military grade dominance overseas juts like they do here in the state.

World domination, take over China with just an announcement? Wow Mark your Ford bias is so big it's laughable.

It is a positive news - I enjoyed it , it brought a some pride back - that US is regaining it status once we held.

We lost the aviation industry to the French fries airbus, we lost the the automobiles industry to the crappy bathtubs Japanese vehicles, we lost the steel industry to the Chinese flooding the world with cheap steel. We lost the garment industry. We are losing butchers (now chicken are shipped to China to be butchered and then send back to our supermarkets - I wonder when the day the Chinese butchers strike - then the drumstick or the buffalo wing cost would rise).

Let it ring - may the Raptor lead the way to regain our manufacturing might.

@Big Al, aka Denver (a complete list of your bogus IDs would take too long to list)

Please cite your stats.

China has been on a road building program for about 20 years but their roads look like parking lots in the cities and like footpaths in the sticks.

Citation, please.

Ford is a little late in their attempt at world domination in china.

http://www.businessinsider.com/why-chinese-buyers-love-buick-2013-4

Very strong words in this article, without any numbers and laughable. Import won't make any dent to the Chinese market, because of huge import taxes. Domestic factory is a different story completely.
Jeep will sell a million times more than Ford.

http://www.allpar.com/news/2016/04/the-first-guangzhou-jeep-is-born-31636

@RAM: Keep building those Chinese Jeeps.

Sorry, the only world dominating 4x4 truck is the basic Toyota pickup!

Toyota trucks are in more countries than any other make!

I have been to places like Italy and Greece and Toyota trucks outnumbered all other makes!

I won't. They will and they will flood all the Asia with them. Not just import few Raptors. LOL.

God I love to see RAMS post. He always uses his propaganda site to back him up. Funny how it is the only site that can. What a loser.

Wouldn't this truck be too big for China's small roads and stuff LOL. Unless they find open rice fields to play in. Good on Ford to take this truck overseas.

The Ford lettering on the grill and tailgate is hideous, it really ruins a nice looking and highly capable 4x4 truck.

The problem with full-size trucks, is that people from around the world tend to think they are much more expensive then mid-size ones and that that the running costs are extremely high. Which neither is really the case. But people tend to be aware they are of very durable more capable.

Toyota is the master of marketing, always has been.

And VW Amarok's aren't cheap, neither will be the new Mercedes-Benz X-class.

Then in some places, like Europe, the streets are narrow and parking space is limited.

But the full-size trucks, light duty, heavy duty and chasis have a big potential, internationally. In the same way small FWD and more mid-size pickups should be offered in North America.

I agree on the grill it is too much. Maybe in person it is better. The back is not as bad because it blends into the panel. Still much better than how fiat copied it and put it on the back of their trucks. I see a few around here and I about want to vomit everytime I see those hideous trucks. Good thing they don't sell very many of them.

Faster, cooler, more boss, and probably also safer (as per the insurance industry's test) than the Fiat or Chevy why the hell not? The Raptor has been a success story of insane proportion for Ford. The press the reputation the performance the bragging rights and to top all that off the sales (both in volume and the profit margin for this toy) have exceeded everyones projections. What many thought to be another faddish flash in the pan very limited run edition actually turned out to have real legs and has exceeded all expectations for it in every way from it actually delivering real "super truckish" off road performance to production runs being sold out year after year even with a ridiculous sticker price.

Sell as many as they can especially while Fiat and Chevy ignore its monopoly on a very lucrative market on a truck that shares the same assembly line and overhead as the best selling truck.

Its just smart. Ford would be foolish to not ride the Raptor Pony until it dies. Its just smart business... but bankrupt companies don't know what smart business is...

@LMAO
Feel free to post any source you want to, to support your feelings and believes.

It would be best to post some numbers to support this article statement.

"In a blatant attempt for world domination, Ford will be exporting the 2017 Ford Raptor SuperCrew to China."

Please feel free to post any, I repeat any source to support this big words.

I still think ,that this statement was sarcastic from Mark, just to keep discussion going, because weekend is approaching quickly.

Turdrammer, maybe you can ask Mark to back up his own statement. I'm not Mark and do know his source. But I find it hilarious that you are all worked up about it while Fiat is on the world domination path of failure to recall fines. LMAO. What a turd.

@Clint
I'll give you that. It's smart for ford. Good for them. But to say ,that bankrupt companies don't know what smart business is...

Looks like DenverllBARF no longer works for the Australian AirForce and has emigrated to the USA.

@papajim - too funny. Do they have Walmarts in China? I'm not in the mood to look.

I'm sure the Aye-Raabs are using them in the desert but the Chinese market will be more as an alternative to big luxury cars and SUV's. It will be a status symbol not a back-country play toy or "jump over protesting students" type of vehicle.

Can you supply some data on how many Raptors have been sold. Just so we all know what you meant by " success story of insane proportion".

@GMSRGREAT, its kinda like the camaro(which BTW I have a 2012 45th anniv edition), you dont have to sell a ton to be an insane success story.

GMSRGREAT & Nitro

Just for your FYI...Ford/IHS announced the final FY 2015 Mustang global sales figured.
Quote:
In its first year of global availability, Ford Mustang became the world's best-selling sports coupe. According to company analysis of the most recent registration data from IHS Automotive, Ford sold around 110,000 Mustang Coupes globally in 2015 - topping all other sports coupe competitors. That record was achieved despite limited availability for most of the year in such key markets like China and the United Kingdom. Additionally, Ford sold around 30,000 Mustang Convertibles, for total nameplate sales of 141,868 vehicles - making Mustang far and away the best-selling two-door sports car in the world. Mustang was the only sports coupe globally to sell more than 100,000 units last year.

Fyi - In Tahiti, French Polynesia - the F150 is now No.1 in sales for full size trucks & Global Ranger took over the crown from Hilux several yrs ago.

Raptors sell for approx $100,000 - 110,000 USD each (approx 40% goes to GOVT import duty taxes) but they still can't keep them in stock.

Based on our country's small population (approx 285 000), we rank No.1 in the world to have the most F150's & Rangers per capital population.
On a side note; we are rank 2nd in the world for the most Porche Cayannes (Monaco is No. 1).

papajim,
Who is Big Al?

Is he a friend of yours?

I'm currently in Atlanta after spending some time in Kendall south of Miami, driving around in a 2015 Hemi powered SLT Ram.

I'm new to this site and I can't believe some of the commentary and the bias in articles as has been presented with this Ford hype regarding the domination of the F-150.

It must be a joke this article or just plain baiting to incite troulling.

Not good work from the Editor.

@Big Al, aka DenverIIIDud

So, how was the clinic this time? Were they able to help you?

I was reading that there is a new family of compounds that counselors are using to replace the serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (Bupropion, et al) that caused so much trouble for their patients, i.e., Columbine High.

Hope all's well. Say, when you were driving up to Atlanta on I-75 did you stop at any of the Cracker Barrels along the way? Just curious.

Yup, that is the fat bitchhhhh from oz alright. What happened al, get fired from washing airplanes. Did you not apply two coats of wax again Biff.

@LMAO

BAF0 cracks me up!

He has posted several comments today without once mentioning mid size trucks or aluminum--then he blew it with that "troulling" thing.

He really is helpless.

If I was in China I just buy a Cadillac. You get a real v8 with better MPG's and no el cheapo plastic all over like the Craptor. Hell probably cost the same too.

@papaJim, LMAO

DenverBARFO sounds just like BARFO. Same whining about aluminum, same whining about big trucks, same small diesel small truck fetish and SAME comment pattern and grammar.

No Furd on the top 3 most fuel efficient trucks towing & not towing tested & reviewed!!

Military gay I mean grade with crappy v6's couldn't make the cut LMBO!

American pickup trucks in China? It'll be interesting to see how the Chinese will respond to this. One thing's certain is that full-sized trucks won't fare well in their crowded, tight cities, but will probably be a better fit to those in the Chinese areas that aren't as crowded or tight.

5th gen camaro was an insane success. It pretty much outsold the Mustang right outta the gate for it's entire production run. Plus it beat the Mustang on the race track repeatedly in competetion.
By the way Nitro, cool ride.
