Best-Selling Pickup Trucks: March 2016

Sales-Header_Fords[1]2

Forecasters predicted a good March, typically a strong month for auto sales, and from the looks of pickup truck sales they were right.

When compared to March 2015, U.S. pickup truck sales jumped almost 10 percent, and year-to-date sales (comparing the first quarter of 2015 to the first quarter of 2016 numbers) are up 6.5 percent. That’s likely to be good news if you’re in the market for a new pickup — dealerships will be primed and practiced at making a deal. And with the fast-selling summer months just around the corner, we don’t expect pickup sales to slow down at all.

Every one of the major truckmakers are having a good year so far, on track to break most of the sales records in the last nine years. In fact, some analysts are saying the 2016 sales year could be the highest ever recorded, and much of that gain, appropriately enough, will be on the backs of pickup trucks.

The Ford F-Series broke the 70,000 unit barrier for the first time this year (the earliest since 2007), and is on track to sell close to 800,000 units in a single year. Other significant pickup truck news for March includes the Chevrolet Colorado for the first time passing the Nissan Frontier in year-to-date sales. Chevy has outsold the Frontier in monthly sales for the last two months, but with sales like these, the Colorado is not likely to give up the No. 7 slot on our list for the remainder of the year.

The Nissan Titan, which now includes the new Titan XD with the Cummins engine, is continuously improving its monthly sales pace by 20 percent and more, and when the half-ton version comes on line in the fall, that number is likely to jump again.

Finally, we see the inverse sales relationship between the midsize Toyota Tacoma and full-size Tundra, which makes sense because they’re manufactured at the same plant on the same line. If Toyota wants to make more Tacomas (which it does), it needs to drop the corresponding number of Tundras to make room for them. We’ll likely see this trend continue until Toyota finds a way to increase total volume at the San Antonio or Mexico plants. In the meantime, the Tundra is the only pickup posting negative March sales numbers besides the Honda Ridgeline, which won’t be updated until later this year.

great job by ford selling the most pickups. people are snapping fords most technological full size pickups at an amazing pace. once the super duty goes aluminum the sales numbers are going to be astronomical!!!!

great job to toyota having the best and most capable midsize. customers appreciate there tacomas by looking at its class leading midsize sales numbers.

looks like nissan has failed in there attempt with there xd like most have predicted across the internet. the xd just comes up short in the 1/2 ton segment and the hd segment. im sure its leading whatever segment nissan has tried to create. there the only players in there segment.

also ford has outsold gm in total sales in the US for the month of march. GM is now the second place manufacture in march.

WOW great numbers by ford!

Nice to see Ram still climbing.

@scott So it does matter to furd fan boys if furd out sells "GM" but not when GM does it 90% of the time over the past 2 decades?

Where is the sales breakdown from last year?

Did Ford ask for more time so they can go back in time and sell more trucks in '15 because their precious F150 was outsold by Silverado 1500 last year?

@GM, who really cares, this is about what BRAND sells not what company as a whole....

Again great job Ford!

Also a huge shout out to Ram who is close to number 2.....

Wow, GM sold 82,099 pickups last month. Still the leading truck manufacturer. That's a lot of happy people. Great job, GM.

Ouch!! This is going to bring out all the Negative Nancy's, Debbie Downers, and Sad Sally's.

Way to go Ford Brand!!!!

No doubt the XD is a dud. Nissan should turn its attention to the 1/2 ton Titan production ASAP. I doubt it will be a huge seller either but it will remove attention from the XD's collecting dust. Ford will have to flood the current SD production for the next 4 months so it can retrofit the line during the summer break. It's going to be interesting to see how the 2017 SD and F150 with the 10 speed will do.

GM has sold 210,293 trucks this year so far. That's more than 24,000 GM trucks sold than the second place truck manufacturer, FORD. Great work, keep widening the gap like last year.

Yea, Great job GM, glad you're happy Sensitive Sally

ford is dominating the full size market. chevy better do something if they dont want to drop to 3rd behind ram in the fullsize trucks.

Ford Sales - F-150 - F-450

GM Sales - Chevy 1500, 2500, 3500, GMC, 1500, 2500, 3500, Chevy Colorado, GMC Colorado

Yea, great JOB GM, keep it up, IF YOU ADD ANOTHER BRAND OF TRUCKS YOU MIGHT OUTSELL FORD F-Series! GMSAJOKE

NOT!!!

Duuuuuude!!! Ram is taking out Chevy...it's the CHEVY SHAKE...

SHAKE...SHAKE....SHAKE..SENORA...SHAKE YOUR CHEVY RIGHT!!!

HAhahahahahahahah

The F650-750 are not count, It accounts for less then 5% of sales, so you argument is moot.

There goes GMSRBAD again trying to convince people GM is good without every being able to tell you why they are..and on top of it, doesnt understand the brand,

@Nitro,

His Poppa was pro-GM, he comes from upbringing.

Nissan and Nissan supporters were boldly projecting sales in the 120,000 range.

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2015/09/2016-nissan-titan-xd-is-on-the-way.html

20% isn't going to cut it. Nissans need sto start showing almost 1000% increased if they want to reach their goal.

I believe Lou said the new Nissan was going to be a flop and although it is still early he appears to be right. Nissan is on target to sell 16,000 trucks. A far cry from 120k.

Dude were's my buyers? smh.

f450 and above with out pickup beds.... commercial trucks arent included in fseries sales numbers. f150,f250,f350 and the f350 with f450 badges are the only ones recorded as fseries sales.... anything above that are reported as medium duty sales not included in these monthly sales charts.

Ford 150-750 = 186,121 Silverado/Sierra 180,096 Ram 113,367 ya fm must be very worried

Yeah, Nissan Titan is bombing just like many of us predicted. Sales would go up but there is no market for 1000% increases like the un-North-American fanbois claimed.

Once again. Ford F-Series 150-450 = 186,121

Heavy Truck sales are counted separately....

https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/2016/04/01/Sales_Release_March_2016.pdf

This shows strong demand for innovation. Ford F-Series outsold combined sales of Silverado and Sierra in March and Q1 2016.

Also, Ford Transit sales up *52%* in March 2016! 14,895 units sold. Best van sales since 1978!

ford is dominating the full size market. chevy better do something if they dont want to drop to 3rd behind ram in the fullsize trucks.

Which model of Ford is dominating, F-150 or the Superduty. The Silverado is the dominate GM. I'm not sure which of the 3 - 4 models of f-series is their top selling model. Scott, can you present some data to help break down Ford's sales by model.
Actually, Frank can benefit from that info as well
Thanks.

In one ear and out the other. The Ignorance is bliss with this one.

NEXT!!

ford doesnt break out the difference between f150,f250,f350 and the f350 with f450 badges on it. chevy doesnt break out 1500, 2500,and 3500 numbers. neither does gmc with there 3 in the full size segment. there all full sizes and ford dominates the full size segment much like toyota dominates the midsize segment.

@Scott,

It was once reported on PUTC of Chevy 1500 and F150 sales, they were almost neck and neck. But when we tally up HD Models, Ford F-50 / F350 just dominates, RAM HD is Second, and GM is LAST.

Last week they were all offering big discounts to get their numbers up. When they offer $8-10K off a truck and they give their employees a $7K bonus at the end of the year, you know they are pricing them way to high....

Looks like they are selling the twins as fast as they can make them, hard to find any on the lots around here, 10 miles from the plant that builds them...

One Chevy Colorado sale is from me this month. Loving this truck so far been working on sitting up the easy to use mylink today and just messing with stuff.

Ford is still dumping F150s on the rental car fleet market to prop up sales because they drop the ball so bad.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2016/04/01/ford-motor-company-march-2016-auto-sales/82509024/

you know johnny dildoe, if I'd invest in Truck fleets, i'd pick a real truck.

Clearly the Truck Fleet industry is picking the best, thus, Ford beats GM again.

Now go back and crawl under your rock...or that rusted pile you call a chevy.

First I must say, way to go Dodge. Yeah I'm celebrating 3rd place. Still gaining though. I'm in a different location nearly every day and I can attest there are a lot of new 150's on the road. Guess people like em. Hats' off to them for taking the chance on alloy. In 94 Dodge took a chance with something totally new and it paid off as well.
Second, the ethnic slurs from da and cthoughts show how small they are and are escapees from the set of deliverance. I got erased for calling da a male appendage but I was right

@ Scott : thank you for your response. I see from the recall alert article yesterday that 4,650 F-650 and F-750 were affected by the recall but that doesn't accurately tell your how many have been sold per month or year. Now can you supply the sales #'s for the other F- series you know, 550, 650 and 750, that would be great.
Thank you.

fleet sales arent just rental car companies.... not that they buy many trucks anyways. fleet sales to the government, oil and gas industries, and businesses are very profitable. ford is stealing those sales from gm cause business owners demand a better product for work which they get from ford cause gm trucks dont hold up to work.

gmsgreat.... go here... under utilities and then heavy trucks. there are the numbers you requested.

As the owner of a Silverado with the recurring AFM problem (8 visits ...and counting) I will be one of those Ford sales very soon.

Ford vs Chevy

"Quote: from the Wall Street Journal.

"Ford is a truck company that makes cars."

"While GM is a car company that makes trucks."

PS: That is why the Ford full size truck line will always outsell Chevy full size truck line.

ford also over took fca as the best selling brand in canada in march as well!!!! gm is the 3rd place brand in canada. and now 2nd in US. ford ruled the NA market in march!
http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2016/04/canada-auto-sales-brand-results-march-2016-ytd.html?m=1

@Scott,

And they all said Aluminum was not the way to go, clearly it is.

HA!

@ Scott : your awesome, but unfortunately that doesn't tell me were the F- series ends and the Ford Heavy trucks series begins. Where is the f-550 in all this ? Secondly can you supply a link to an image of a FORD Heavy truck. When I searched FORD heavy trucks I got an image of a semi or tractor, neither had an F-designation.

The truck industry is picking GM over Ford end of story, 210,293 GM trucks sold so far this year compare to Ford's 186,121 Ford is dumping on rental car lots. GM is cutting back on rentals and going to the higher end of Fleet sales ,while gaining ground in retail sales to top it off. GM is top dog in trucks like it or not. Ford sure is try though, but they got stuck with that moron Mark LaNeve. Ex GM sales dumb dumb. Get ready for a bail out Ford.

http://www.autonews.com/article/20160330/RETAIL01/160339995/gm-sees-u-s-market-share-stabilizing-despite-cut-in-fleet

"GM said it delivered 193,524 vehicles to individual or “retail” customers in March, an increase of 6 percent. The gains reflect a 7 percent increase in retail volume at Chevrolet and a 13 percent jump at GMC -- the automaker's two biggest divisions."

Enjoy your rental special Ford clowns LMBO!

gmsgreat
ford makes semi trucks????

@ Scott : thanks for all your help but when Ford says f-series, trust me, they include everything with an "f" designation. They do not report sales #'s of their f-150 seperate from a Superduty or an f750 for a reason. The TRUCK yeah article you posted earlier is not a reputable media outlet that I trust to get information right. But again, thanks for your help.

what heavy trucks does ford make in 2016 that are reported as heavy trucks???? you said something about google and ford heavy trucks..... i can lead a horse to water but cant make them drink.... truck numbers that are posted here are f150 through f350's with f450 badges that come with beds. anything else falls under heavy trucks.

@Scott,

Don't waste your time, let them do their own research. It's quite evident they have reading deficiencies.

Frank your kinda right for once, you Ford clowns should read up and research the over priced rental car specials yall are buying up LMBO! Hell Ford sales are hurting so bad they are building just rental cars to sell LMMFAO!

http://blog.caranddriver.com/2016-ford-mustang-gt-h-the-hertz-rent-a-racer-that-you-definitely-shouldnt-race/

as always johnny dildoe, your post was utter garbage and useless like your like of existence.

Peace beeeeeeeyatch.

At least my post have links with info for one to read and make up their own mid, something your 10 year come back post lack every time LMBO!

So much misinformation concerning the Titan. The only model current available is the platinum reserve. The gas titan, single cab and all over variants haven't launched yet. Most of the sales increase came fro the 15 Titan as their are steep discounts. 120,000 sales when all production is up and running is feasible considering Carlos Ghosn has committed to Nissan trucks unlike Toyota who puts a new face on truck and calls it all new. Let's check back in a year to see how things are going. Fred Diaz has was put in charge of the truck market for reason. Nissan will never have the capacity to compete with the big three but they certainly can do and will do better than what they've been doing. New diesel Frontier will be here soon too.
