March 2016 Pickup Sales Breakdown
Posted by Mark Williams | April 11, 2016
March was a good month for pickup truck makers. With basically only one exception — the Toyota Tundra because the Tacoma is selling so well — sales were strong for manufacturers desperately looking for more ways to squeeze out additional production from plants in the U.S. and Mexico.
To provide our readers with comprehensive pickup truck sales information each month, we’ll be breaking out the monthly sales data for each pickup segment as well as how each of the pickup truck brands fared.
We hope to provide a breakdown of half-ton, three-quarter-ton and one-ton pickup sales biannually as well.

Looks like GM sells a lot more trucks then Ford.
Looks like GM sells a lot more trucks then Ford.
I always knew Ford would sit at number two with the release of the aluminium pickup.
GM is rolling along as the US's premium pickup brand.
I would like to see a Ram or Jeep midsize pickup soon.
Maybe if Ford had the global Ranger it would be sitting on top. This would definitely come at the cost of some F 150s.
For all of the hoopla about mid size trucks, the segment is still dwarfed by the demand for half ton full sized trucks.
And Nissan and Toyota really need to up their game if they want to play.
It must be depressing for their stockholders that these companies each own plants in North America dedicated to the production of trucks and yet are very minor players in that very profitable activity.
Toyota is selling 100K Tundras a year with 10 year oil technology, and maybe $1000 on the hood. The big three WISH, they could pull that trick off.
Everyone knew when you add up all of gm truck sales you beat ford. But considering development costs and additional factories plus much higher margins on full size trucks there is no doubt ford is the most profitable on trucks overall. But is there really a point in adding midsize sales to full size? They are totally different trucks with totally different capabilities bought for totally different purposes by different kinds of people. Might as well add in suv sales and van sales while you're at it since a Silverado is a lot more similar to a Suburban than it is to a colorado.
Shareholders probably don't care about where Toyota makes the profits, if it's with full sized Trucks or mid sized trucks/cars/suvs. Toyota has been putting up some good sized profits so I doubt any shareholders are "depressed".
People don't realize that Toyota and Nissan don't "have" to sell full sized trucks, they make enough money with the rest of their lineup that any full size truck sale is just a cherry on top and a truck sale stolen from the big 3.
The brands so dependent on purely truck sales are the shareholders that should be depressed. If the economy tanks again and truck sales bottom out here comes bailout 2.0 (3.0 for Ram/Chrysler).
Damn F--king Fords still #1 in Full size pickup sales with 186,121 sold vs Chevy/GMC with 180,096 sold. LOL
I saw the new Ford F150 TV commercial during Nascar race that Ford got IIHS five (5) star crash test for 2016. We will have to see if the steel body trucks from GM & Ram can match it.
Where is the sales breakdown of 1/2 tons for 2015?
Ford is only 25,000 units behind GM, despite the fact that Ford does not have a midsize truck on the market here.
What that says to me is that Ford is actually still the sales king. If the Ranger was still on sale Ford would be WAY ahead of GM.
Also, the Titan appears to be a flop as expected. Nobody is dumb enough to pay 1 ton truck price for a truck that has 1/2 ton truck specs.
DenverlllDud
You are pretty funny GM has to add midsized trucks to beat ford
Toyota Tacoma demand continues to be strong! Dealers are reporting they will only be allotted 2 Tacoma's on their lots and no dealer to dealer trades.
Ordering a Tacoma like I did last year will take longer and Toyota no longer can guarantee when it will be built.
My 2016 SR 4x4 took 2.5 months to get because of high demand. I am so glad I placed my order last year!
What that says to me is that Ford is actually still the sales king.

"What other voices are you hearing inside your head."

LMAO!!
This is going to bring out all the Negative Nancy's, Debbie Downer's, and Sensitive Sally's.
LMAO!!
Beebe,
It seems to me Taco and GM C twins might be pulling profits as good as better than full size trucks.
The full size trucks appear to more heavily discounted.
Nissan with its pickup, esp the Frontier are heavily discounted.
Good job to f-series pickups, looks like it will be another year of number 1 sales yet again, highly due to the solid military grade f150, once the HD's hit the market it will be gold.
One of my fellow Boy Scout leaders just bought a new Tacoma and I got to ride in it to a campout a few weekends ago. Honestly, I'm not very impressed with the interior, exterior, ride quality, power or road/wind noise.
I am NOT a brand guy! I currently own a 2011 F150 CC 5.0 4x4, last truck was a Chevy CC Duramax 4x4, before that Ranger and Toyota 4x4's.
Where the Taco destroys most other trucks is resale value, reliability, and maintenance costs.
My 2011 F150 Crew Cab 4x4, rides better, has a more modern looking and quieter interior, and has way more power than the the new Tacoma and it's 5 years old.
So what you're learning here, folks, is that GM needs FOUR trucks to outsell Ford's two. And they're still only doing it by 11%. When Ford rolls out the Ranger, GM better watch out.
When you compare apples to apples, Ford outsells GM.
End of story.
Let's add Van Sales, such as Transit Connect and it's all over for GM.
Why oh why can we not get a breakdown of 1500,2500, 3500 and the medium duties broken down as well? other than Ford wont publish the numbers? I believe they are the only reason you don't see the breakdown.
Ford clowns are so tricked off that GM is outselling them LMBO!
HAHA! Look at little Franky cry, lets add van sales he says. Ford has to add van sales to claim they beat GM in truck sales? LMBO!! Ford vans don't even come with a truck frame anymore! Ford clowns what a bunch of losers!
Let's add Van Sales, such as Transit Connect and it's all over for GM.

Let's add full size GM SUV sales into the mix and it's all over for Ford. At least these full size GM SUV's are trucks. LOL
Nobody cares what you think, Johnny dildoe, If I were a GM NUTHUGGER like you, I wouldn't gloat about this.
This is an embarrassment for GM, but you're too much of a dolt to see it.
Go cry to your mom. Adding Van Sales was just a perfect example of how you like to a mid size truck sales, compare apples to apples TWERP!
I fixed the below comment for you, TWERP BOY
HAHA! Look at little johnny dildoe cry, lets add all 4 truck GM sales he says. GM has to add all 4 truck make sales to claim they beat FORD in truck sales? LMBO!! GM clowns what a bunch of losers!

Oh yes Jim, and you're a f'ken rocket scientist, GTFO TWERP
Little Franky you really want to add Van sales? Okay we will do the E -series, since it the only Ford van that's still built like a truck with a real frame and engine.

The Transit doesn't share anything truck like you reject! We are talking trucks here not soccer mom unibody crap!
The midsize GM Trucks don't share anything with Half Tons and HD's. Friggin Dolt

J.D.
How's your Chevy Camaro sales doing against the #1 Musclecar of all time the Ford Mustangs this year & last year? LOL
blueman The Chevy Camaro is doing great! Its only been out four or five months and not all the models are even available at dealership yet and they are already on Ford's tail!
Every one has seen the videos of the base model V8 not even a go fast model Camaro beat the living pi$$ out of the Ford's GT aka G@y trannie pooptains car are ready.

Um yeah Little Franky they do. They are body on frame, just like the HD'S and half tons. You should stop your crying already, you're making a fool of your self kid!
@jack
Toyota is not far behind Ford in the sales stakes and has on occasion, overtaken it. Toyota is having a good time in the US market
So tell me Johnny Dolt, are you saying the GM HD's share the same frame as the midsize trucks?
Does the F150 share the same frame as the F450? What a reject this kid is LMBO!
@Frank, dont feel bad and dont let them get to you, they will always come down on number 1, without telling why GM is better, the reason is because they themselves dont know why and cant tell you, so the only way to make themselves feel better is to bash the number 1 military grade F series trucks, they couldnt even tell you the difference between a chevy and a gm
I'm not feeling bad, I just want to catch this twerp with all it's lies and what not.
"Does the F150 share the same frame as the F450? What a reject this kid is LMBO!" - TWERP
F150 - F350 share the same CAB, these trucks DOMINATE SALES.
Enough said!!!
Thanks.
Hey look its your special ed buddy Nitro. You can tell it because all he can say is military grade, but he don't even know what the series of the Aluminum is on the F150. LMBO!!
Yes sir you gotta be special ed.
the BIG sticking point to me is WHY does Motor Trend - Truck Trend Magazine HATE the F-150 soooooo bad?
To be fair I did test drive a new 2015 F-150 4x4 with the 2.7 eb and I didn't like it one bit and I also didn't like the similar Chevy Silverado, but I did like the Ram 1500 but I have a major problem with the cheap plastic chrome hubcaps that look like mag wheels. I loved the older 2015 Nissan Titan, it was like driving a race car, but had an issue with payload and poor gas mileage, the Toyota Tundra is out of the question cause I hate any Toyota.
The only trucks I didn't test drive is the Chevy Colorado and the 2016 Nissan TitanXD.
But they really have to impress me!

Yeah um reject, that wasn't the question. I asked bout the frame not the Cabs. Can you read and Comprehend?
Anyways since this is bout truck sales and all trucks are body on frame design in this truck sales list, and you was crying add van sales. I add the most truck like vans, body on frame design and Ford still lost.
The Silverado 1500 outsold the F150 in 2015 by itself. The fact that either Ford won't release the numbers or this website won't write the article proves it.
What could be the biggest bomb shell in pick-up news in years and this website (about pick-ups) doesn't even acknowledge it is very telling IMO.

The Chevy Camaro is doing great! Its only been out four or five months and not all the models are even available at dealership yet and they are already on Ford's tail!
PS: It must be 100 mile long tail. LOL
March 2016 Stats:
Mustang 12,563
Compared to Competition:
Camaro 6,879
Challenger 5,369
blueman Yeah not bad since only 2 models of the new Camaro are out and on sale the LT and SS. The best has yet to come like the ZL1 and Z/28.
So yeah I would have to say the Camaro is doing great since there is 10 different Ford poopstain models out on sale.
F150 - F350 share the same CAB, these trucks DOMINATE SALES.

You never answered if GM Midsize share the same frame as GM Half-Ton and HDs?
You know why you couldn't answer, because they don't.
Same old, same old.
If one looks at just full sized trucks Ford sold 6,025 more "big" trucks year to date.
If one looks at all of the pickup trucks sold by a corporation then GM is ahead of Ford by 24,172.
GM's 'gamble' on small trucks has put them into 1st overall.
3 truck classes multiplied by 2 divisions. I would of thought the lead would have been greater.
I wonder where DenverMike is? We have the clone DenverDud here.
Those small trucks sell at full MSRP. No discounts (at least here in Canada).
Just that fact alone means it is good for GM.
