Recall Alert: 2015-2016 Ram 1500
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 450 model-year 2015-16 Ram 1500 pickup trucks manufactured between Jan. 22 and Sept. 13, 2015
The Problem: Contamination on the electric power steering control circuit board may cause a short, resulting in a loss of power steering assist; this will necessitate extra steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increase the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the EPS unit for free.
What Owners Should Do: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles did not immediately provide an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov for more info.

450 trucks in an 8 month build span? Wonder if it was with a certain option or something else to be just 450 trucks.
WAY TO GO RAM! Only 450 trucks. Ram has stepped up to the plate big time to keep up safe. Wow!

Dave,
Exactly what I was thinking. Very weird considering they have been selling over 40K a month.

Recall...wha...wha...whaaaa
Good to see this low number for Ram. They are all gonna have recalls and its good they have learned and are getting these numbers down.
It doesn't seem to end, does it?
The plastic chrome hubcaps look hideous on the Ram 1500
@Hemi, Crash test results from the IIHS come out next Tuesday. We'll see who's got the safest truck. I doubt its Ram. Good day sir!
NUTS. STORIES. SHAM!
recalls are good as manufacturer's address problems. I had a recall on a ram 1500 rear end...over three years and they did not have the part...traded out of the Ram never to go back!
Ram safety leader...ugh NO. Ever seen a Ram that has rolled? There roof is crushing in on the occupants is enough that this vehicle should not be allowed to be sold. Ram failed the roll over test and other brands score higher in safety.
want a lifted truck...that makes it more likely to roll...avoid RAM... guts ,glory and certain death when this Ram rolls!
check the stats on roll over deaths and how they failed to design a roof that will protect occupants....deathtraps waiting to happen.

I though the Ford F-150 already got 5 stars. Am I mistaken?

@canadianthoughts
I've never seen the RAM rolled.
You got rid of it, so be happy. Do you drive ford with defective brakes now?
I am just curious to know.
I agree. The Ram is a scary place to be in a rollover. It's roof strength is slightly more than half that of an F150. Unfortunately IIHS has not yet tested the new GM twins, even though it's been on the market longer than the new F150. GM scared maybe?
You Ram haters crack me up. It's not like you're going to buy one anytime soon, so get a life.
I'm getting 23MPG, average.

Hahaha. Because you would enjoy it in the ford. In my point of view, the RAM has better chassis and better rear multilink coil suspension, it sticks to the ground better than any other truck to prevent rollover in the first place. So yes, you need more protection to the roof in the ford. See, everyone can justify their purchase.

Actually the vehicle dynamics control does most of the work in preventing a rollover. I would like to see how a multilink suspension controls a rollover better than leafs from you though. The limiting factors are still the solid rear axle. Sway bars and shocking has some of the biggest contributing factors in preventing body sway control. Stiffer springs also resist sway more than soft springs. Ride height also contributes to overall sway. So I would love to see your data ram. Now if you say independent reason suspension, then yes you would be 100% correct.
Fyi ram, the F150 and Chevy holds a high G on the skid pad compared to the fiat 1500. The Chevy was the lowest in ground clearance while the F150 was that tallest.

Funny how brand loyalty will make people blind regardless of the issue... no wonder governments can so easily get people to go to war over lies. Americans have freedom of choice but are so easily swayed in to believing what ever is told to them...they almost can't think for themselves.
Ram sticks to the ground better then other brands because of multi coil suspension... wow you really said that...lol. I bet you say "do you want fries with that" often in a day don't you.
you never seen a ram truck rolled well then it must not happen right... Here is a clue...do some research because facts are out of all the bands of trucks that roll Ram occupants are more likely to be injured or killed then other brands.
I have never been to china either but that doesn't do much for any argument where are the Chinese people from...
Just love when Ram owners look for absolutely anything to justify the numerous proven short coming of the Ram brand.
if Ram is so great why is it the worst in reliability? This can be easily researched.
The Ram has a marginal roof strength rating, it's not poor but needs improvement still way better then any trucks from 20 years ago or more. They need to test the hd trucks, I'm assuming they would fare a good bit worse in a roll over since they share they same cabs but have about 2000lbs more weight to support on the roof

Ram new motto should be ...wear a tin foil hat it offers more protection then our roofs.
@ Canadianthoughts
Your comments are about as valid as the guys you are complaining about. Like Jim said, the roof is marginal. When compared to a Ford, how much more does the Ford weigh? How old is the current gen Ram? 2009. Like any brand loyal fan, everyone has an excuse for their specific brands' shortcomings. Get real
Also the reliability issue you stated is easy...back when it was a Dodge Ram, they did not spend as much money on design and components as the others so their ratings were always sub-par. However, today, trucks like Ram and even the new Nissan are way better than before, and people like you are too stubborn to let go of the past and recognize the fact these trucks have some better qualities than the Fords and GM/Chevs. This goes for JD Power and Consumer Reports. Hard to change some of these peoples' minds. Look at the most recent JD Power ratings...the ratings for ram trucks (esp 1500) are climbing.
wow, your link shows a picture of a 2002 Dodge. Good job. As for Government testing...is this the same Government that is sticking it to GM and Chrysler and hooking up Ford?
"check the stats on roll over deaths and how they failed to design a roof that will protect occupants....deathtraps waiting to happen."
Is this not all SUVs and Trucks????
http://www.rolloverlawyer.com/vehicles/dodge-ram-1500-rollover/
Ram updated their trucks but failed to address safety concerns...
reliability tests are constantly updated and guess what...Ram for years has been lacking in reliability... this is a fact.
No Rams ratings are not climbing if anything Fiat is actually making the situation worse.
Ram has better qualities then other brands? They are first with the 8 spd and diesel in a half ton... does this make them better or do they rush to the market quicker?
Time will tell when GM and ford unleash 10 spds and their diesels.
Ram has been working on a ecoboost pentastar for two years and indications last week were this will spell the end of the hemi in all but Trucks....what? how will Ram defenders justify a ecoboost pentastar is better then their Hemi?
Whats next ram wants an Aluminum bodied truck?
worst safety and reliability but we have other significant qualities like two foot high name embossing on our tailgates and fiat mustache grilles... oh look at our new stripe package on the gas eating power wagon.... lol
guts and glory for those cleaning up Ram roll over accidents.
Well I have to say my 2014 Ram is the most quality vehicle I've had for the past 20 years. Not one issue other then a couple air bag recalls. It's tight as a drum with no rattles and the interior is wearing well still looks brand new after two years. Thier are no major issues with the Rams that I know of. Ram put a lot of new technology in thier trucks and I know some have had uconnect software issues which will drive up the service call ratings.

Your comment is giving me a headache...
"Although F-150s often have good crash safety ratings, the 2012 model of the F-150 illustrates the vehicle’s rollover dangers through its rating on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s rollover tests. This government agency gave the four-wheel drive F-150 only three of five stars in rollover tests, while the two-wheel drive model ranked a higher four of five stars. This mediocre rollover test rating shows that these vehicles may prove safe in some crash scenarios, but may not be designed to avoid rollover accidents."
"Throughout the exceedingly long production time for the F-150, Ford has still failed to completely address the safety issues that cause rollover accidents in these vehicles."
***From the same link you provided***
Their ZF 8spd and EcoD are rushed to the market? Do some research. That 8 spd has been used since 2008 on many other vehicles, like Porsche and BMW to name a few.
The EcoD has been used in Europe for years. Essentially the same power plant, just had to add the exhaust/emissions systems. Not sure about the reliability of the EcoD? It is a current three-peat winner; even beat out the new 5.0L Cummins and baby Duramax:

To put it out there:
Every truck manufacturer has their strengths and weaknesses. As a Democracy, the customers have several different choices based on which we intend to use our truck for. In the end, trucks rule, so stop bashing other brands because it is not what YOU like that matters to anyone else.
Only a total dolt would cheer this.
Fiat did what Fiat was supposed to in a manner it was supposed to do it with when a mistake it made.
It wasn't a big mistake, it wasn't a lot of vehicles, no one has been hurt/killed, no reports of damage, the gov didn't find it, Fiat didn't fight it and as long as they fix it quickly and correctly the first time this is a textbook properly handed responsibly run recall. As they all should be.
Only someone clueless about manufacturing would criticize this recall and only a dolt would be thrilled that Fiat managed a small mistake properly.
It looks like Fiat being forced (kicking and screaming) into the largest truck buy back of all time taught them something about handling/taking responsibility for their mistakes.
No caps needed. We all know when the dolts are being dolts.
@Clint
Amen.
@montands... I like Ram but lets not alter the facts here their reliability and safety is behind other brands...has been for a long time.
Ram scored the lowest in roll over and roof crash test.
diesel is okay but nothing to write home about... I guess you didn't read the article of these diesels going into limp mode pissing off many Ram owners or EGR valve clogging.
ZF8 is a good transmission and very expensive.
Did you notice Dodge and Ram excels at one thing... putting a Cummins or a ZF8 into their vehicles ..nothing like outsourcing when you cant quite get it right yourself.
Here is a hint all new trucks look good...look at the same trucks four to five years down the road... Ram has terrible paint and seat fabrics wear out at twice the rate of other brands...
Ram calls their engine a Hemi... guess what is does not have hemispherical combustion chambers... that should be the first clue this company will do anything to sell a product.
warranty issues... I have dealt with all brands...Ram will find any excuse to bail.... ask Cummins owners with lift and injector pumps.
http://www.jdpower.com/cars/ram/1500-ld/2014
2014 ram reliability.... looks like Fiat is hiding warranty issues for 2015 as it is exactly the same truck.
I don't think two foot tall Ram emblem on the tailgate or ugly fiat mustache grilles would be called a redesign by the automotive sector ...maybe by Fiat.
http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ram/1500/2015/
yup that ZF* is great only costs and average of 750 dollars to repair the clunks coming from it.
My 2015 Dodge Ram problems that I am having with it. The headlights come on by themselves. I'll go down the road at night and they will shut off by themselves. There's gas in the oil. We have taken it to the shop 7 times and with the truck will not duplicate anything. Very dissatisfied with the truck.
Nice-looking truck but very dissatisfied how it operates on the brakes, have failed 7x, mufflers got a hole in it already. Duplicated gas in the oil - unsafe. The road smell burnt wiring in the cab. Heater doesn't work properly on safely road. Smell burnt wiring in the cab and the heater don't work really properly. Way too many problems with this truck.
I have a 2014 Ram 1500 with 65000 miles and having issues with it that Ram doesn't think there is. Bad customer service and poor products.
2014 Ram Ecodiesel MPG - Went in for software updates. They also changed the catalytic converter and a sensor that were not listed in the computer as a update. Since this I cannot get over 22 mpg to 23 mpg and before I use to get 28 to 31 mpg. Wasn't VW playing with software to increase MPG???
I have a 2015 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4. This truck has had problems hanging in third gear. Went back to dealer for service, no codes and they say can not duplicate problem. Next had problem with it not starting, turn key and just like the battery was dead. After 7-9 times it finally starts. While driving down interstate truck went into neutral by itself, went back to the dealer BOB ALLAN MOTOR MALL, can not duplicate problem. Now the trucks lights go out while driving complete danger to me and whoever I meet on the road. Again same deal, can not duplicate.
Contacted Ram customer service. They offered me a trade in assistance program which basically is a slap in the face as anyone who has ever purchased a new truck or car knows inside of two months you are upside down when trying to trade back to the dealer. These people have taught me one thing for sure. Do not buy RAM TRUCKS. THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEM ONCE THEY GET YOUR MONEY. THEY COULD NOT CARE LESS.
On October 2015 I purchased this truck. The same day as I was driving I heard a high to low rumbling noise. Took it back to dealer for service. Changed front axle shaft, noise continues. After 3rd time to dealer, they contacted Chrysler and were told this noise was normal. Very annoying noise at 70 mi an hour. Traded in a 2012 Ram, no problem with noise (both trucks are 5.7L, 4x4s). Has anyone had this problem? Help! Annoyed in Chicago.
I bought a 2015 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel back in April of 2015 from Rydell Dodge San Fernando Ca., on October 31th, 2015. I took the truck to Rydell's Dodge of San Fernando for service (maintenance). After they were done, the service advisor told me "did you do something to the coolant fluid?" I said "no, why?" He replied "because is a different color, is black and normally it looks green or pink". I said "do you need to look into it? Is it safe to drive?" He replied "is ok, just make an appointment whenever you have time and bring it back".
Drove home and curiosity got to me, popped the hood and surprise, it was not a different color only, there was oil in the coolant reservoir tank. Now, I'm not a mechanic but a simple dipping my finger into the coolant showed me that it was oil, lots of it. Took it to a closer dealership Hunter Dodge of Lancaster Ca. As soon as their mechanic popped the hood and saw the coolant reservoir tank he declared it not safe to drive. Now, it has been in there ever since and today is Dec. 10th and still no truck back.

Here what real customers say about Ram trucks... OMG horror show.
@canadianthoughts why are you on here bashing Ram? It because your jealous of the Ram and it upsets you that Ram is doing so well. If you don't like don't buy it. I'm not brand loyal by any means but I think the Ram is one of the better trucks out their. GM has major vibration issues as well as oil consumption issues with thier 5.3. Ford has brake failures, fires, and unknowns with the new motor and body. Toyotas are fairly reliable but suffer from old design and technology.
Auto discussion aside...Look how much thought, research, and typing-time canadianthoughts has put into this one article on a minor recall of a Ram truck.
We can only imagine what aspects of his life (family and job come to mind) would be that much better if this effort was instead directed toward something worth a damn!
Unbelievable...
When you run the production cycle 2007-2015 against Goverment Recalls,TSB,SB on Ford's F150 versus RAM's 1500 you would see a much larger recall rate on Fords F150,engine's,transmissions,radio connectivity,brakes...Than on RAM 1500.
Not looking so good for Dodge....

Real ram customer say:
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/dodge_ram.html
I supported two Chrysler bail outs with personal and company purchases.
Real customers and their are many who say they'll never again purchase Ram products.
This is not bashing but facts, yet we have a few here who constantly misinform others with outright false information to defend the Ram brand.
Ram is not reliable or a leader in reliability.
Ram is not a leader in safety
Ram has not had the least recalls.
a little knowledge and research will tell the whole truth. Just read actual sites like the link provided to see the true experiences of the owners of this product. It is a much different story then what the paid defenders of Ram indicate on this site.
I like many owners in this have made a conclusion after owning several Dodge and Ram products.... Never again. No not because I prefer another brand but because of the experience and letdown of actual ownership several times over. I have owned all the brands personally as well as purchased for my company....other brands have not have had the headaches or costs associated with them like Ram.
I drive 2012 RAM 1500 Laramie 4x4 HEMI with over 170 000 km on it and my next truck is going to be the RAM again.
I gotta change the spark plugs probably already.

You have heard of Russian roulette what your doing will be called Ram Roulette.
That's the problem in a nutshell..a few do get good trucks and many more get service nightmares. I had a couple really good trucks a 2003 1500 and a 2006 2500 with the 5.9 but since 2009 it has been awful, frustrating, heartbreaking as I used to really love the brand.
many owners bought on the word of friends who had great experiences to find now their challenging lemon laws or really feel soaked for putting out huge dough to find they have a truck constantly in service. it is a shame.
If Fiat does not address this many of their customers will not be repeat customers.
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/dodge_ram.html
I feel for these people and know first hand their grief... this is a big problem that is not going away on its own.

Hmmmmm that's odd. You said you drove a 2010 just months ago.
@LMAO
Yes it's 2010. I bought it in Feb. 2012. Happy now ?
Some people just shouldn't post on here
I could easily find the exact same articles on any vehicle out there PERIOD. Even funnier is some of the links you provide are from a lawyer that specifically earn a living from people that were hurt in vehicles. They make their money by someone suing someone, of course they will provocative things to say. You are proving nothing.
@canadianthoughts
I can just laugh on your statement.
I am in technology industry supplying and servicing machines (cnc)every day from Germany, Italy, Switzerland, US....
They all break. Switzerland is exceptionally best,, because they have smart design and use high end components, like solid state relays. Rest of them breaks equally. German has heavy design, but not smart at all. They literally break because of that.
They all use same, or similar mechanical, electronic, pneumatic , electric, hydraulic, suppliers for components. That's the problem. Auto industry is no different.
That's why I look at engine, trany, transfer case and chassis only design, when I buy new car or truck. I like HEMI, 545 RFE, transfer case with 4 modes include auto awd mode and multilink rear coil suspension.
Rest of that is Russian lottery for any manufacturer and if you think otherwise, you are delusional, like my customers who buy German machines because they think they are the best. I charge them extra for service when they break and they keep me busy.
There is Mercedes going to be selling trucks at NA market. If you think, they are the best , buy it. Just remember, new mud flap is $250 + labor. LOL.
