April 2016 Pickup Sales Breakdown

2016_Nissan_TITAN_XD_V8Endurance_19 II

April was another strong month for pickup truck sales, but how long can it last? The midsize segment continues to grow, selling almost 40,000 units each month. Looking at the numbers, the Toyota Tacoma sells almost as many trucks per month as the entire GMC Sierra lineup. Additionally, the Chevrolet Colorado sold about 100 more vehicles this month than Toyota's full-size Tundra.

Looking just at full-size pickup sales, meaning a combination of light-duty and heavy-duty models, Ford continues to have a strong lead over the other truckmakers, even if you combine GM's Chevrolet and GMC brands. It's only when you add the Colorado and Canyon numbers into the GM sales numbers that GM takes the brand lead.

When looking at total U.S. pickup sales so far, the industry is on target to sell more than 2.5 million units by year's end.

Congrats to Gm for #1 Pickup Manufacturer. I wouldn't expect that a few years ago.

RAM needs Toro to past Ford.

~6k trucks is a "strong lead?"....not hardly when we are talking .3 million trucks...lol

@RAM

Nothing suprising, in the past GM has often outsold Ford if you combine Chevy and GMC sales. The only way they're outselling ford now is by adding in their midsize sales, so technically GM is not outselling Ford's F-series when you correctly compare full size vs full size from each manufacturer. GM's full size pickup market share is actually lower than it was pre-2008, iirc.

Nice Work Ford, not even close Chevy is.....tacoma better than GM in midsize, uh oh, gm in trouble when fuel costs go up....their cars are not doing well

I see the "break-away" control arms aren't helping GM sales as predicted.

LOVE
FORD!

The Silverado 1500 outsold the F150 in 2015.

If you're not going to break out the 1/2 tons, then this article is completely useless.

All of you doubters when the new Tacoma came out, where are you?

Good thing for GM that Ford no longer sells a small truck in the USA or GM would be eclipsed yet again, for what, 40 years in a row now? Ford also could increase sales if they'd do like GM does and build trucks that fall apart in a few years and require replacing.

Dang Ford, single handily beat down on Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.

It really doesn't matter how many truck a MFGer sells, it's the profit, GM sells that much trucks but is much less profitable than Ford. Go figure

#1 Way to go Ford F-series. Still #1 after 40 straight years. Must be that Military Grade Aluminum.

#2 I see GMC & Chevy still #2 behind Toyota Taco in the Pizza delivery style pickup trucks. LOL

#3 Looking at the numbers, the Toyota Tacoma sells almost as many trucks per month as the entire GMC Sierra lineup. LOL

The bulk of the numbers are based around full size trucks. If you cannot show the differences of sales between light and heavy duty then who really cares about this article?

Some good news for Ford I just read,F-650 AND 750 sales are up 86% in the first 4 months of this year, from 3,609 to 5,616

Ford does not count those Sales to their F-Series.

Is ford unable to find frames for their mid size trucks or enough seat frames ? LOL. Zero mid size truck sales. Ford is obviously out of touch with what truck buyers want and more importantly, its investors.

Ford is doing much better in Profits then GM will ever be, thank you for your concern.

@GMSRGREAT...your Ford jealousy, like Johnny, reeks as evident in your responses, you have to point out none existent Ford Trucks because you cant point out the existent ones since they are far superior to your GM twins......major FAIL

292,202 gm trucks sold in 4 months. Wow! I know the demand for the GM mid sizers is high. If GM can raise the midsize production levels for the remainder of the year it is quite possible GM will sell 1,000,000 plus trucks this year.

Any yet is less profitable, MAJOR GENERAL FAILURE!!!!

@ Frank Ford does not count those Sales to their F-Series

Yeah I know just thought I'd post since last year they were built in Mexico for the first 4 months, but now they are built in the U.S.

Frank
Per Detroit Free Press
2015 GM reported profits 10.8 b
2015 Ford reported profits 7.4b
GM profits were almost 1 ½ times that of Ford in 2015
In my area after a poor Jan. Ford went from $10,000 off to $12,000 off MSRP and started off in May at $13,000 off MSRP. Gm has had a $9,000 off MSRP all year and is still staying right with Ford in full size sales and out selling them with over all truck sales as the bottom chart shows on PUTC.
Do not tell me I am a Ford hatter because I have a F-350 . facts are facts. Please don’t cry.

Who is making these graphics? Ram sold twice as many full-size trucks as GMC, but the GMC bar is well above half the Ram bar.

If you're going to make bar or pie charts, it would really help if they were accurate to the numbers presented.

@Jake D,

Do you research on the year 2016? Thank you sir.

Here is through the years for the F150
For all you ford lovers who say square wheel wells are ugly then ford was there for over 40 years

From 1953 until 1997 looks square to me

@ Frank
I love how you talk about profits, that just means people pay more than they should on a ford truck. Then you brag about ford taking yours and there money. Lmbo

GM is putting one hell of a A#$ whooping on Ford Junk Motor Company! They are going to be ahead of Ford Junk Motor Company in profits soon to. Enjoy it, what little you got left Ford Junk Motor Company! HAHAHA!!!

You'd be hard pressed to find out that the Silverado is sold at a much higher amount than the F-150.

But i'm sure you do your research before spewing garbage. Reassess yourself.

Frank
Year 2016 has not ended but GM is ahead in first quarter sales as the bottom chart shows.
Again don’t cry.

And Ford is counting vans as trucks.

Thank you for showing up and displaying your utter idiocy, we couldn't find a more stupid comment on PUTC without you. Keep the good work.

BTW, go read a Dictionary and look up the word "PROJECTION"

You're a waste of sperm. God Bless you ignorant Parents.

The Ford fans are standing the numbers upside down in order to salve their feelings over the whipping that GM dishes out.

GM's total LT truck sales puts them ahead of Ford and the rest of their competitors once again.

I spoke to a Non Truck owner, asked him who sells the most brand of pickups, he said Ford, I said why not GM when they combine, Silverado, Sierra, Canyon, Colorado together to Ford F-Series.

He said, that's retarded. A company that sells the most trucks makes the least profit.

GOD BLESS MURICA!!!

Still the same sophomoric comments on this website. Reminds me of a school yard brawl. Haven't matured since high school. Most of the commenters have never used a truck as a truck.

“It really doesn't matter how many truck a MFGer sells, it's the profit, GM sells that much trucks but is much less profitable than Ford. Go figure...”

So what’s your point bonehead? Buy a Ford because Ford makes more profit from you on their trucks?! Lol

Both Ford and GM are POS, but Frank would rather buy his POS from the manufacturer that’s making more money off of him....heeeheee!

Hey Frank between fixing recalls, ask your Ford Dealer if he is making enough profit on the Ford truck. If he says no, offer him some more money, I’m sure he’ll be happy to take it. You want to make sure that Ford is “more profitable”...lol

Go figure!

Hi, Mark - - -

I worked out some sales plots, with regression lines and slope data for these very same vehicles.
Would like to send them to you.
How can I best do that?

(Since you have access to my email address, that might be one way, if that's OK with you. Then I could just send them back to you as an attachment. Or, if you have a regular mail address, I can print them out and mail them that way. Whichever you prefer...)

======================

Another month of sales figures... when are we finally going to get LD and HD trucks broken out separately?

Don't forget Ford sales f 450,550,650 ,,,not gm ,gm sale small truck and not Ford ,,

Hey milf - Ford counts only F-150 to F-550 based on pickups whether it has a bed or not. Ram is 1500 through 5500 as well. GOVT motors I believe are 1500-3500 as they don't want to step up to next level as already dominated by Ford.

Ford's F-650 and F-750 are not counted in the numbers posted here as they separate them as "Heavy Trucks" in their sales charts which you can find numbers too if you care to look it up...

Toyota (as a company) is the most profitable out of all these companies, and sells much fewer trucks So....
