Chevrolet Celebrates Military Appreciation Month
(Editor's note: we have updated the photography on 5/10, providing more accurate images of what the production truck will look like.)
May is Military Appreciation Month, and Chevrolet is celebrating in two ways.
First, Chevy is donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Special Ops Edition to the Navy SEAL Museum and its foundation.
We first saw the Special Ops Edition at the 2015 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show and then again at the Army-Navy football game in December 2015. That Special Ops Silverado was technically a concept, but then Chevy announced that it would go into production later this year. Details about the differences between the special-edition option package and the concept have yet to be revealed.
Chevrolet has a long tradition of supporting the U.S. armed forces. During World War II, the president of Chevrolet served in the Army as a lieutenant general, and GM factories helped to manufacture plane engines, vehicles and armaments.
The second way Chevy is celebrating veterans is by extending its Military Discount Program for the entire month of May; the program is available to all 21 million U.S. military veterans. To learn more about that program and its incentives, visit ChevySalutes.com.

not a bad looking truck, i do like the lights across the top of bed on the bar and the lights in the grill across the top, it would have been more fitting if it were military grade though....
Crap on wheels.
Now this is a real Military grade truck, hell it can even come with real used Military grade engines to boot!
The best engine in a truck 6,2
WTF is this junk, damn poser truck.
Hahahahahah General Motors, stop trying to say you're building Military Grade Trucks by displaying this junk.
GTFO!!!!
General Motors is a POSER CAR COMPANY. They stopped making trucks in the late 80s.
hell it can even come with real used Military grade engines to boot!

Wow, the ignorance on this one is CLASSIC!!!
Put a Duramax in that baby and it's a true military grade truck. GM makes military grade approved engines that the military uses in there military grade Humvee's. Now who's the poser?

It's not a durajunk, you idiot.
5.What kind of engine does it have?
The standard engine is a 6.5L turbodiesel. For a few years, a 350 (cubic inch) gasoline engine was available, but it was discontinued as of 1997. 6.2L and 6.5L normally-aspirated (non-turbo) diesel engines were available in earlier models. The newer Alpha version was equipped with a Duramax diesel engine.
It's sure not a powerjoke , you idiot.
That's a Detroit Diesel, the biggest Failure in GM's History in trying to build a Diesel engine from a Gas.
Do your research, you're referencing the Military Humvee.
I don't give a crap about the POS Hummer H1 GM built, that was total crap.
This is a real ARMY TRUCK.

A page of childish comments once again.
I like the fact that there is no chrome on this truck. The light bar makes it look like an Avalanche.
Yeah, probably made in Mexico like other junk GM trucks;

GM's Duramax V-8 engine to power U.S. Army's Humvee replacement....................http://www.autonews.com/article/20150828/OEM/150829892/gms-duramax-v-8-engine-to-power-u.s.-armys-humvee-replacement
2011-2012 F-150, 2012 Expedition, Mustang, and Lincoln Navigator, according to Ford, this safety recall concerns a potential issue with the output speed sensor of the transmission lead frame. In certain conditions, the transmission might force a temporary downshift into first gear, which could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up.
The second safety recall announced by Ford today refers to certain 2014-2015 Exploders and Police Interceptor Utility vehicles. In this case, Ford will replace these elements to prevent a potential fracture caused by poor weld quality. In the case of failure, the rear suspension could become noisy, and steering might become challenging (lol).
The third recall action announced by Ford refers to 2016 F-Series Super Duty vehicles. Ford wants to inspect the tires of these vehicles, as they discovered that a conveyor might have damaged tires of vehicles assembled.
The fourth recall action announced by Ford concerns 2007-2012 Flex, Taurus, Mercury Sable, and Lincoln MKS vehicles. Ford believes that some might lack the chemical enhancer responsible for the second-stage of the airbag deployment (BTW - the issue is not related to Takata).
And the beat goes on... Ford is recalling the 2016 Ford Fusion. They want to replace the driver seat track assembly, as the seat mounting bracket attachment may have been improperly welded.
Good job Ford! Hard day for the Blue Oval! They call is it the Blue Oval, because you’ll be singing the Blues if you bought one of these POS.

I don't give a crap about the POS Hummer H1 GM built, that was total crap..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
The Humvee engine is based off of GM's Duramax 6500...........................The 6.5L GM diesel engine was introduced in 1992 to replace the 6.2L diesel engine and was in turn replaced by GM’s Duramax 6600 in 2001. On the surface it would appear that the story of the 6.5L diesel would end here, right? Well, that wouldn’t make much of an article.
In actuality, production of the 6.5L diesel engine ended for GM in 1999 and a new chapter of its production began shortly thereafter with General Engine Products (GEP), a wholly owned subsidiary of AM General. GEP built a new facility in Franklin, OH specific to the 6.5L diesel engine, using the latest innovations and technologies of manufacturing available.
AM General entered into an agreement with GM to provide the exclusive ownership of the Hummer brand name which subsequently was renamed the Hummer H1. AM General continued to manufacture and assemble the H1 for GM through 2006, and in 2002 began assembling the H2 for GM.
Today, AM General continues to build the latest developed rendition of the 6.5L for many military application vehicles, the most popular of which is the High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, better known as the HUMVEE). The Optimizer 6500 diesel engine now produces 205 hp and 440 ft.lbs. of torque and there have been numerous improvements made to ensure its long term reliability. It’s definitely NOT the same old GM 6.5L.
Before we get into any of the proliferation reports, let’s talk about some of the issues that have given the older 6.5L its black eye reputation. While a number of these things have been rectified, some of the aftermarket solutions may or may not be an advantage. Take note that these issues are distinct to the 6.5L GM engine and not the AM General 6500 Optimizer engine. To think they are the same would be like comparing apples to oranges – you just can’t do it.
The brightest spot in all of this is that a 6500 Optimizer will retro back for every 6.5L engine application with little or no modifications. GEP actually provides “de-tuned” applications that will even retro into naturally aspirated applications back thru 1992.
i can't believe some people actually think there is something called military grade! This never existed before Ford marketed the phrase. It's a damn shame!
It's too bad people like Frank and LMAO (who should be banned from here) have to bring up Fords on a Chevy page.
On a serious note, I know some of our truck loving friends are from up north, I just want to say I hope none of you or family and friends are affected by that enormous forest fire. Stay safe guys

And my comment on this article is where until now? I have nothing to say about this article so I made no comment.
Gay truck
PUTC,
How the hell is Frank still allowed to express his opinion on this site?
It's military spec, not military grade.
Yet another manufacturer missed that.

LMAO!!!!!! What a joke! There is only one MILITARY GRADE truck and that would be the Ford f series. The best selling, most dependble, and the safest truck in the world.
^ A bunch of the above comments are off topic once again from the same Ford clowns. Dave Z. you better call the PUTC Cops!!!!
@johnny they have been watching you for some time
This is actually quite beneficial, Great submit.....
GM creates this special ops edition truck to honour the great men and women of the military. What does Ford do? They immediately go and steal the lighting ideas that GM put into this vehicle and turn it into some sort or marketing scheme. Serious Ford, stop copying GM . Shameless!

I'm sorry LMAO. Everything you say about me is true. I am an imbecile. Ford really does make the best truck. GM lovers are stupid and they can all LMBO for all I care.
@gmsgrgreat, you mean GM steals from Ford, if they havent yet, they will in a few years, remember that
Great I see LMAO or one of the Ford clowns are using my name again. These few idiot's on here really give Ford Motor Company and the good fans a bad rap.
GM trying to make profits for their fat cats again so they can seek another bailout when they go bust soon!
When well over 40 cents to every federal tax dollar goes into a military industrial complex machine, why the heck do we need a military appreciation month?
We are paying with our sweat, blood and tears to fund that monster machine, that should be good enough!

Oh come on johnny welfare. You know it is hard for me to dumb myself down to try and post to sound like you. But I find it fascinating that I continue to live rent free in your head along with Ford for you to think of me when you seen that post. LMAO.
What Ford does for veterans: If they have been wounded, and belong to the Disabled American Veterans,(DAV)they are on Ford's X-plan.That's about the same as employee pricing.FCA doesn't offer that, neither does GM.As I have said many times,I am not brand loyal, but I have bought 2 F 150's,(fx4's) and two cars from them over the years using the X-plan and that's also with the normal discounts too.
Posted by: toxicsluldge | May 6, 2016 10:59:54 AM
I did not know they offered that program. I give kudos to companies that do stuff like that for veterans. A few years ago the company I work for raised a ton of money for Honor flight. I was amazed that the support we received. Since I am a manager I had to go out and talk to our various vendors and local companies to raise donations. Pretty neat experience. I would have loved to get a report back on the trips though.
The X-Plan is not all that exclusive, many companies offer those plans to all there employee's. Hell I never served and I can use the X-Plan and the GM's equivalent plan's. If your company uses fleet vehicles check with your HR department and see if they also offer these plans.
This is a real ARMY TRUCK.

Yea, just to bad fiat does not make anything nearly that tough. The new fiat 1500s are barely subdivision proven. They are dealer proven though.

GM is doing that now. They are offing 9K off the sticker and if you order off of qvc you can get another 5K off.
GM doesn't need to sell on QVC, they have the dealerships and trucks in driveways to prove it. Another of Fords failed attempts to get average person to buy a car, stick to the fleet and government sales the public is well educated on there products.
Wonder if this gm is one of the models recalled for the fromt suspension welds breaking???

What do you have to match the capability of my Ram Power Wagon?
1934 Dodge 4x4 1.5 ton
I thought you guys might enjoy some photos and info on my 1934 Dodge 4x4 truck. It's official name was the K39x4. It was the first four wheel drive that could be shifted from inside the truck. It predates the Marmon Harrington Ford conversions. Dodge, of course, went on to develop some fine vehicles for WW2 which subsequently led to the famous Power Wagon line. These first 4x4 trucks were used in the 1930s by the US Cavalry/US Army. Here are some pics of my truck.
