Ford Pushes 2017 Super Duty to its Limits
When you build a new heavy-duty pickup truck (meaning a three-quarter or one-ton pickup), you know it’s going to be pushed to its limits in ways no other type of vehicle is going to be pushed. That’s why the engineers at Ford find creative ways to test new pickups up to and past their limits.
Ford recently devised a clever way to test roll stability in its HD pickups at its Arizona Proving Grounds. Engineers used a custom-built mock-up of a slide-in camper to simulate a real camper to see what effect its higher center of gravity might have on the 2017 Super Duty. The simulated camper can be modified to weigh as much as 7,500 pounds, which is considerably more than any one-ton pickup is legally allowed to carry. The testing provided engineers with valuable data from high- and low-speed lane changes, mock slalom runs and emergency braking. The tests allowed engineers to fine-tune stability controls on the Super Duty.
We’re sharing Ford’s most recent test video, which demonstrates how Ford tests roll stability control on the 2017 Ford Super Duty.

Failed!
Lame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That feature is going to save somebody's life some day, just like the trailer sway control saved out lives when the frame of our travel trailer BROKE while we were coming around a switchback high in the Sierra Nevada mountains!
This is a great test/feature, other Truck Makers should follow suit and follow the Truck Leader.
Way to go Ford, make the Super Duty better then it already is.
Good Job!!!
Leave it to Ford for Innovations.
Interesting. But large trailers can blow over taking the truck with them, search YouTube for examples. Ford isn't testing that with this simulated trailer.
And the 7500 lbs mentioned in the article is that the pin weight added to the rear of the truck or just the dry weight of the trailer? If it is dry weight of the trailer and not pin weight my 1/2 ton could tow that...
Yup, Like the trailer backing feature that Ford touts…..Too many people who call their pickup a truck and should not be allowed in either when towing or hauling……..
If you can't back it up by yourself, you should stay in your prius…. If you don't understand the physics of a high load, or a trailer, just please, stay in the city.
You owe me a 50 seconds of my life , because of watching this nothing telling ford commercial.
I sure hope those engineers are factoring in the additional lower center of gravity that those stabilizers are providing. Remember the Ford Explorer mistake fiasco.

That's right Frank...leave it to Ford!
so johnny dilDoe what is so lame about this..testing for safety..maybe generic motors should try it..also people this was a test for hauling a camper not pulling a trailer..pay attention
Johnny, you what's really lame?
The incredibly small volume of HD sales compared to RAM AND Ford.
Incredible Fail.
Gm(government motors) and fiat also tried this test but when they put 7500 hundred pounds in the bed the frames broke in half. Only a MILITARY GRADE TRUCK can haul that kind of weight. Ford once again leading the way.
Yawn!, Ram and GM did these test years ago when they got fully boxed frames. The weak C channel Ford finally caught up and went to boxed, like the real truck leaders Ram and GM.
Natethegreat You got the backwards kiddo.

And yes ford sells more trucks than your gmc crap believe it or not.
Listen Crapy Government Motor hey FORD teaching them how you do it.
PAY ATTENTION FIAT ANG GOVERNMENT MOTOR THATS HOW YOU DO A TRUCK.
Dont try to copie it try to do your own.
Ford has always been chasing this truck.

Honestly, the upcoming Duramax excites me more than the new Super Duty truck. Motors are more my thing.
WOW!

WOW!
Those new Superdutys are pretty tough. That's some of the roughest pavement I have ever seen.
I am buying a new 2016 Chevy Silverado 4x4 LTZ short crew, I believe I got a good price, it stickers for $52K and I got $10K off.
But this is top of the line Silverado and my friends will be impressed.
Ford should stick to the simulated testing. lol

Wow!!!! Only Ford will do this and those lame Gm and Ram cry babies will follow. That's a fact jack. Those 2 are always late to the party when Ford's done that and moved on to the next test. Government motors and fiat, how lame can they get??
And now for some real news....
Ford and Mercury vehicles equipped with an Electronic Throttle Body (ETB) are prone to sudden surges and stalls, sending them into a limited “limp home mode” which allows the vehicle to keep moving, but at drastically reduced speeds.
Further...The power steering in many second generation (2008–2012) Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner SUVs is failing for owners whether they are driving around town or cruising down the highway. The problem happens suddenly and without any warning lights or indicators.
Further...Ford's customer satisfaction has been in steady decline[2] since 2010. MyFord Touch was also released in 2010. This is not a coincidence. MyFord Touch was Ford’s attempt at an all-in-one, in-dash communication and entertainment system. What owners got instead was an unresponsive, difficult-to-use and needlessly complicated mess.
Good job Ford!
@Frank
"This is a great test/feature, other Truck Makers should follow suit and follow the Truck Leader."
All the other manufacturers do already perform these tests. But PUTC is so Ford-slanted that they never report on it. Here is what happens:
1. Mike Levine founded PUTC years ago.
2. Levine sold the site to Cars.com and went to work for Ford Communications.
3. Levine sends stories like this directly to PUTC.
4.. The "journalists" at PUTC post the story without doing any research into the story.
Unfortunately PUTC is becoming the Truck Trend of the internet ...
Meanwhile GM is fixing welds on control arms...
500 hundred hp, 1000 ft pounds of tq. Thank you Ford for building the toughest truck on the planet. I forgot to mention the super Dana 60 up under the front. Simply the best. MILITARY GRADE!!!!!
I just love to see all the little fan girls try and bash Ford. Really shows they are compensating for something. For instance, you have ano article on the fiat trucks just before this article and it is the official horse crap hauler and yet crickets. Thus article shows safety test which fiat fails at miserably at and all these little girls have to whine and complain. You guys are nothing more than a pathetic joke. I really laugh at you fan girls because your lives revolve around this site and bashing one product that happens to be one of the global leaders . So they must be doing something right. All you girls would know a work truck if you were ran over by it.
I'm hoping to get a call back from the dealer in the next day or two so I can get our Silverado back from getting repaired again. Just had to decommission another set of fiat trucks with 120k on the clock with engines that knock. We are down to our last few pieces of junk now.
one day Gm will also follow Ford and test its HD's as well
Still being paid by Ford to advertise are we...
In relation to the commercial video I watched, that limit is pretty low for Ford with stability control on.
It won't roll over, but will slip out of the road , because of extensive SC intrusion and wheels braking. Ford is a victim of laboratory controlled environment testing.
Good comment Curtis. I agree if someone can't back up a trailer they shouln't be driving with a trailer. You can't get a regular driver license if you can't back up a car. Down here when someone shows up to do the driver test. The inspector will fail you imediately if you as much as glance at the backup camera screen when backing up.

So Mr violin sanitary engineer, what are the g's experienced during that video? I missed that number there. How do those G numbers compare to other like trucks. Again you are a moron.
You owe me a 50 seconds of my life , because of watching this nothing telling ford commercial.

What is funny violin is you came back a day later to try and post something negative. But again. You look like a fool because you still do not know anything. How does fiat test their trucks stability control and where is that video with G readings, MPH, steering wheel input, traction loss data etc?
one day Gm will also follow Ford and test its HD's as well

Nitro, I once worked at a GM test facility. I can assure you the testing they did makes the above test video look like a stroll in the park. Actually, that's all it looks like anyway.

I highly doubt that. Why did you leave GM to work as a miner then?
@LMAO
It would be interesting to see the same video with SC off . That would be fun to watch. All trucks included. Not this commercial. Nothing to learn from this.
What did you learn from this video? Please enlighten me.
First violin, you need to back up your statement. Then i will be happy to give my opinion.

A miner, I don't work as a miner, you fool ! I just happen to work at a GM test facility as a contractor. I installed and tested new / improved componets and obtained test data results for them. I have seen things developed and tested and put into production and things that didn't make the cut. As I have said in the past, i'm not an engineer, i'm a technician.
We are approving RAM 's statement.
We are approving RAM's statement too We have no idea, what you could possibly learn from this video.
Frank
You obviously did not even watch the video or read the whole article. That's not a trailer it's a camper that goes on the bed of your truck. I'd like to see you put a 7500 lb camper on the back of your 1/2 ton.
As I have said in the past, i'm not an engineer, i'm a technician.

You may want to get your story straight because you said a few weeks ago you were a mechanic for a mining company and you worked on nothing going but Ford trucks. I have seen your post, you are not educated enough to be a technician.

That's funny, why does GM hire outside help to work on their test vehicles. Why don't they have their in house technicians work on them. With R&D you have to document everything, something contractors have a hard time doing.
