Ford Vs. Chevy 2015 Sales Recap

Ford F150 Towing lead II

We know this is long overdue (as several of you have not-so-quietly reminded me) so here it is.

This is a recap of the 2015 sales numbers for the two biggest half-ton and HD players in the U.S. Astute readers will remember that no truckmaker gives us the sales breakdown among half-ton, three-quarter-ton and one-ton pickup trucks, so we rely on our own "black magic" experts here at Cars.com (some people call them software analytics pros) to sift through tons of data to pull out these nuggets.

As you can see, the F-150, although just a tick behind the Silverado 1500 by July of 2015, came on strong in the second half of the year to push a good distance ahead of Chevy. Of course, as any diehard GM fan will tell you, if you combine the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 sales numbers (they are produced and assembled on the same plant lines), the total trounces F-150 sales.

Likewise, the Ford Super Duty continued its domination of the heavy-duty segment. And that's true even if you combine Chevy and GMC HD pickup sales numbers.

Where's the Ram HD numbers. Ram usually outsells M in the 3500s. 2500s are closer than one might think.

There goes the "GM sells more Silverado 1500s alone than Ford sells F-150s" myth.

No surprise here.

What happens when you add GMC? I think that would put GM on top at least for the half tons.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha

If Chevrolet were allowed to have the same goodies that GM gives their GMC brand, It would go a long way to push Chevrolet sales higher. IE: better base interior materials, more standard options, higher interior/exterior trims (Denali/Ford Platinum), premium styling, auto 4x4 etc... Really, the same applies to their cars. Chevrolet cars lack AWD, better interior materials on base models, higher level interior trims (No Ford Titanium competitor), premium styling, very few engine options etc.. All because of Buick. Chevrolet is restricted on everything not Camaro/Corvette. Ford might actually worry the day that GM allows Chevrolet to go all out.

GM wins! Furd is second place to the best GM.

I've owned GMC and Chevy trucks and they are the same truck for many years. Everybody knows that so why not blend the sales numbers??? Not even worth looking at advertised sales numbers when the same trucks are not included together.

Because you guys said Chevy sells more half-tons alone than Ford sells F-150s. You guys said you wanted to see the data for months. Here it is. Myth busted! Ford sells more.

In 2015 GM sold 44,329 more full sized trucks than Ford. In 2015 GM sold 114,507 more mid-sized trucks than Ford. In 2015 GM sold a total of 158,836 more trucks than Ford. GM the best selling truck's for god knows how long.

Yep, Ford's Brands puts a beating on GM Brands.

F150 - F-450, a Beat down.

Toyota Tacoma puts a beating on GM sister midsize brands.

Posted by: Frank | Jun 17, 2016 5:54:25PM ___________________________________________________________________________________ Prove Ford only counts F-150 thru F-450. I bet you cant.

Wow, GM sells a lot of trucks. Brilliant idea to market the same truck as 2 brands. Ford has 2 very different trucks but decided to call them all f-series. I guess that's why FORD sells fewer trucks.

To be fair Frank I looked up how many total trucks Ford sold from Jan. 1st thru May of this year, counting all F-Series trucks Ford sold 331,172 . From Jan. 1st thru May of this year GM sold 369,436 trucks. So far in 2016 GM has sold 38,364 more trucks. I know GM has 8( 4 GMC - 4 Chevy ) and Ford has 7(150-750), but that's a lot of F-850's if they made them.

GM's are junk...your a special kind of stupid aren't you.

In 2015 Ford sold a total of 790,354 trucks (150 - 750)https://www.at.ford.com/content/dam/atford/archive/2016_NA/January/Sales/Copy%20of%20DECEMBER%20TABLES.pdf. __ .In 2015 GM sold 939,190 trucks (counting all Chevy and Gmc trucks). http://www.gm.com/content/dam/gm/mol/docs/GM-Deliveries-December-2015.pdfGM sold a grant total of 148,756 more trucks than Ford, again that's a S-load of F-850,s if Ford made them...We can make Ford look better by adding vans to the total Ford1,011,020 (trucks and vans)..GM 1,034,847 (trucks and vans).. GM still wims by 23,824 units...CASE CLOSED.........

GM sells its trucks under two name plates and you have to combine them as they come off the same assembly lines.

GM's are junk...your a special kind of stupid aren't you.

Posted by: Dan | Jun 17, 2016 6:48:15 PM___________________Ok smart guy I laid down the facts, Now its your turn to out smart my stupide.

2 Dans....I'm out lol... I'm not a Ford fan

Best trucks for the money and capability. Period.

Midsize - Tacoma
Fullsize - Silverado
Heavy Duty - Ram 3500

Done. You won't regret your purchase.

I read the posts and just think why? Are you slow?
Ford F-150 outsells the Silverado, period. If GM wants to drop one of their clones and make only one model it may make more sense with all the petty arguing.
I think GM is smart to have two trucks that are slightly different. Remember they are not the same model.
I was really hoping that Mazda would make a F 150 variant. It's the good old days of the ranger/b series.

In 2015 Ford sold 790,354 trucks (F-150 - F750). GM sold 824,683 ( GMC - Chevy 1500 - 3500) that 34,329 more full size trucks sold by GM. Ford even had an extra dog in the fight and still lost. GM still has there 114,507 mid size trucks to add to those 2015 sales numbers if needed. GM FTW!

Ford is the best go Ford

I think the last few articles got into Marks head.

1) Chevy makes the F150's bed look weak.
2) Bloomberg picks on Ford.

So they come up with these home made numbers. I'm not really sure how accurate they are.? I know Ford outsells in the Hd but I'm not buying the 1/2 ton figures.?

I have said that I thought the Silverado out sold the F150. I stand corrected and thanks to pickuptrucks.com for posting the numbers.

There is apples to apples who is number one.

Where is fiat at?

Don't buy the Ford spray in liner, it peeps up like a banana

Show me a GMC dealer that will sell you a new Silverado.and visa versa. Show me a GMC Sierra coming off the same assembly line directly after a Silverado. Show me a GMC lover that will buy a Silverado and show me a Chevy guys who can afford a Sierra.

What can I say more to all the Ford haters other than - we told you so!!! So go eat your crow....again!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

FORD wins and GM loses again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gm loses cause FORD WINS AGAIN!!!!

Go to your local FORD dealer and ask to see "the" F-series model. Not the F-150 model or one of the many variations of the Superduty models but the F-series model. I've never seen the F-series model. I've seen a LOBO in Mexico, but no F-series. Ford claims to have the #1 selling F-series, yet i've never seen that #1 selling model. Go figure Ford's marketing, bonanza.

GMSRNOTGREAT - I'm amazed at your persistent stupidity even when all the facts are laid out in black & white...but hey I guess you're worse than those RAM turd morons who can never admit to their recall crown.

So I give up (for now) & going out for dinner to enjoy a great steak & a btl of wine...bon weekend all & drive safely

Beers & cheers!!!

@gmsux, yeah you ask that question and that sales person holds up his hands and says, look around you boy, F series trucks are all around you. Which truck do you care to look at??? Just that plain and simple Gmsux!!!!

Which Model do you want to look at Gmsux?????

Flashback to the GM fanboyz attacking Ford and the credibility of the site:

I want to see 1/2 ton vs 1/2 ton numbers. I'd bet the Chevy 1500 is leading the F-150. I think the surge in Ford sales is coming from the SD. I swear I'm seeing 3 or 4 new SD for every new F-150 in central Texas.

Also, According to the GM website 'GMC sets average transaction price record'.

@Nitro

Please post a link to F-150 vs Silverado 1500 sales numbers. If you can't then you have no Idea how the new F-150 is doing vs the competition.
Posted by: Jack | Dec 1, 2015 3:07:53 PM

We need numbers or is just BS.
Posted by: Jack | Dec 1, 2015 3:20:50 PM

If history holds and the F-150 is around 65-70% of F series sales and Silverado 1500 is in the neighbor hood of 80-85% the F-150 and Silverado 1500 are in a dead heat right now around 450,000 units.
Posted by: Jack | Dec 1, 2015 5:45:59 PM

The Silverado 1500 outsold the F150 in 2015 by itself. The fact that either Ford won't release the numbers or this website won't write the article proves it.

What could be the biggest bomb shell in pick-up news in years and this website (about pick-ups) doesn't even acknowledge it is very telling IMO.

It turns out, like usual with the GM fanboyz, your posts were BS. Don't ask the question you don't know the answer to and don't make accusations without the numbers. Your posts were just BS..

Which Model do you want to look at Gmsux?????

The F-series model. The one Ford says is the best selling.

We need 1/2 ton sales numbers. Based on past 1/2 ton vs HD percentages I think the Silverado 1500 by itself may have outsold has the F150.

Where is Jack?

Jack where are you?

The fact that Jack is MIA is very telling. LOL.

This could be one of Bob/GMR/Johnny's alternate ids.

Here are the numbers for 2015:

Ford F-150 550,000

Chevy Silverado 1500 450,000

Next.

Chevy and GMC is gaining on Ford and the new monochrome look on the front grills and the wider look of the Chevy-GMC does look better than Ford. You gotta admit the F-150 grill is U-G-L-Y ! The video of the holes in the F-150 bed is going to hurt the F-150 sales that's too early to see yet. The Chevy-GMC is getting better gas mileage even ahead of the Ford 2.7 turbo. The one to really watch is the Colorado-Canyon when the 2.8 diesel hits the showrooms , they are going to sell like crazy. TTL Trucks tested the new diesel and it won the towing contest against the F-150 with the 5.0

Dan, who can't spell, gives Frank a run for the dumbest commentator, knows nothing about grammar and thinks ford makes good trucks, says:

GM's are junk...your a special kind of stupid aren't you.

You're not very bright are you? Ford has never ever pushed the F series model! You made that up! The say "F series line of trucks" not F series model you dope! F series includes F-150 thru F-450 same as Silverado includes 1500 thru 3500! When they separate them they say F-150 and Super Duty while Chevy says Silverado and Silverado HD!

The point is Ford groups all there trucks under the F-Series designation. Every truck they make. With combining all the different models and configurations still don't sell as many trucks as GM. However, FORD claims they are #1. Just remember the truth about your truck company. Ford lies about so much and the Ford fan girls just soak it up.
