May 2016 Pickup Sales Breakdown

11 Tacoma Limited

Some analysts are saying May was not a good month for the auto industry, which was down 6.1 percent overall due in large part to a quirk in the calendar. But if you split cars from pickup trucks, SUVs, vans and crossovers (considered the light-truck segment), the differences are even more pronounced. Passenger cars are down by 16 percent while the light-truck segment is up almost 2.5 percent.

As we've done for the last few months, we've broken down the monthly and year-to-date pickup segment into three charts (see below) to show which manufacturer is winning the growing midsize pickup race and the full-size pickup race; we also compare all the pickup brands. We hope to have more detailed data on the full-size truck sales breakdown for 2015 by July, even though manufacturers do not provide sales data that separates half-ton sales from three-quarter-ton and one-ton pickup sales.

The kid LMAO is busy playing video games while sucking down all his mom and dad's food again I see.

Gas prices are starting to climb again... I wonder what the graphs will look like this summer.

@done, classic right there, sometimes he is also referred to as gmsrgreat

The Fact is Ford is caught in a bind with this stupid sales leader crap. They have been bragging about for so long they stand to lose a lot by being beat.

Knowing this GM doesn't play the game. They are perfectly happy to sell more trucks and take the money to the bank. Ford, on the other hand, is constantly looking over their shoulders and having year-end fire sales to stay ahead.

They all have Fire Sales, quite being dumb. Ford isn't worried about GM nor it's sister brands.

BOTTOM LINE IS:

Ford is #1 in full--size truck sales.

Toyota is #1 in mid--size truck sales.

Bluemans bottom line is not telling the whole story.

GM is total sales leader #1.
Ford is #1 in hd sales.
GM is #1 in half ton sales.
Toyota #1 in mid. Size trucks.

Where may I purchase a GM 2500 Denali High Country Truck?

Ford guys hate those graphs, it is way to surreal for them. They prefer pictures instead. LOL!

How come chevy or gmc or ram doesnt seperate 1500 sales from hd??? Cant find any numbers on just their 1500 sales.

HAHAHA! It gets even funnier!

"Joules in the rough

Chevy said in the release that engineers used a 17-pound wedge-shaped striker to scientifically test the strength of each pickups bed. It says the Silverado withstood 90 joules of impact energy without cracking, while Ford’s aluminum bed floor “exhibited hairline cracks at just 30 joules, and was completely punctured at 40 joules.”

A joule is a form of energy measurement equal to moving a small object, such as an apple, about one meter in one second, or .24 of a calorie, according to several online definitions.

A Ford spokesman said he couldn’t immediately comment on Chevy’s claims."

Looks like Ford has been caught with their pants down with the beer can beds.

I don't care what Frank or Lou or Dave or Al1111 says.

I'm surprised Ford is trying to put out a product like this!!!

Hat tip to my buddy Bvonscott!

Frank, The Ford loader was raised up higher and looking at the still pictures on Forbes the blocks were stacked haphazardly on the Ford. The Chevy load was lower and the blocks were nicely stacked so they would just slide off and drop in nicely.

Chevy should stop wasting so much time and money dumping on Ford and instead concentrate on making better trucks with more engine options and factory options.

Dave Z. look at the 49-50 sec mark in the video, them blocks for the Ford sure look nicely stacked to me, and looks pretty much the height to me.

same height *

The load for the F-150 was about a foot higher. Also the pics for the Silverado damage are zoomed ou,t blurry and out of focus, and the F-150 are are full-size sharp and clear. Come on now!

So back on topic, Ford still number 1..... and the 5 year olds are still trying to convince people Ford is bad without showing anyone why chevy or gmc is good

GM is getting hit with a Class Action Lawsuit for the GM TRUCK SHAKE. TURD

Come on now Dave Z. the link you posted clearly states the height.

"Chevrolet stunned focus group participants by showing what happens when you drop 825 pounds of concrete landscaping blocks from a height of five feet into the bare pickup beds of a Chevy Silverado and a Ford F-150."

You need your eyes checked.

Really, who cares what GM thinks, they still can't outsell the Ford Brand.

Pathetic.

Clearly they can, look again at the last chart.

GM always beats Ford. Look out FCA nipping at you're heels.

"GM was the U.S. industry’s sales leader last year, selling nearly 3.1 million vehicles, up 5 percent. Ford sold 2.6 million, up 5.3 percent. Fiat Chrysler sold more than 2.2 million, up 7.3 percent from 2014."

Nice video Johnny
I'd hate to see the cheesy military that uses that garbage on their Vehicles. LOL

I know right? That's something probably even 3rd world militaries wouldn't even touch LOL! They probably can build tougher stuff with sticks and bubblegum HAHAHA!

GM just clearly showed how good their truck bed is compared to Fords. The bad part is all Ford. Who's fault is that, Nitro. It Ford's for creating a subpar product and trying to cover it with some made up term ..........what was that..........oh yeal 'Military Grade". HAHAHAHAHA!! The mystical military grade. Nitro, do you still believe in the tooth fairy?

"Ford #1 month after month, year after year. Must be the Military Grade Aluminum"

Not that I really care about sales, but in my book GM's 75,234 is more than Ford's 67,412. That means GM is number 1 in sales.

I can understand how boneheads like blueman can make that simple math error, maybe this will help...

If you guys really want to brag about sales & demand by US consumers, eliminate fleet sales. Then see how they change. Might hurt your feelings. A lot of government agencies, private companies, etc have exclusive fleet agreements with these companies (mostly Ford & GM). It by no means indicates quality of vehicle. It's financial arrangements set years in advance. As profit analysis for Honda North America, we always adjust for fleet sales. You might say "a sale is a sale". Not true. Some companies above limit fleet sales to & focus on individual customers. It helps resale by not flooding market. Just something to think about. Sometimes numbers are slightly misleading

GM is going everything they can to build more midsize trucks without bringing a third production line online.

I think they have increased capacity from 110k units per year to 140k units per year. AND they are still looking how to expand beyond that.

The only issue is when the new midsized Frontier and Ranger arrive on the market in 2019 and there are 100k of new choices available. I think they midsize market may finally start to see incentives at that point.

Ford sells a lot of white cheap pickups that's why there sales are high
