Recall Alert: 2005-10 Toyota Tundra, 2006-11 Tacoma

08_Toyota_Tundra_Recall[1] II

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 800 model-year 2005-10 Toyota Tundra pickups and 2006-11 Tacoma pickups, all equipped with aftermarket seat heaters with a copper strand heating element installed by Southeast Toyota Distributors dealerships. (The unit of JM Family Enterprises is an independent distributor of Toyota vehicles serving dealerships in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and North and South Carolina.)

The Problem: The electrical wiring in the seat heaters may be damaged when the seat cushion is compressed, causing the copper strand heating element to short circuit, increasing the risk of fire.

The Fix: Southeast Toyota Distributors will disconnect the seat heaters for free, and refund to owners the purchase price for the accessories.

What Owners Should Do: Dealers will begin notifying owners on July 14. Owners can call Southeast Toyota Distributors at 866-405-4226, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or go to for more info.

DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is recalling 91 all-new 2015 Ford F-150 pickup trucks in North America because improperly installed or missing underbody heat shields could increase the risk of a fire, the automaker said in a statement.

Ford said it is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires linked to the recall.

The affected F-150s were built from January 30, 2015 to January 31, 2015 at the Dearborn Truck Plant.

Ford dealers will inspect the pickups for incomplete underbody heat shields and fasteners and install missing components. The recall is expected to begin on May 11. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673.

This is the first recall for the new F-150.

No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the U.S.

MORE garbage from Toyota and Ford.

Ford recalls 2013 and 2014 F-150 models for leaking brakes

Jeremy Korzeniewski
The Basics: Ford recalls approximately 271,000 F-150 models equipped with the 3.5-liter Ecoboost engine from 2013 and 2014 for faulty brake master cylinders.

The Problem: A fluid leak from the brake master cylinder into the brake booster could reduce brake effectiveness, increasing the risk of a crash. The leaky master cylinder only affects brakes to the front wheels and does not affect rear-wheel braking.

Injuries/Deaths: Ford reports allegations of nine accidents with no injuries. Interestingly, though, there is one alleged injury "involving interaction with the vehicle's brakes but not associated with an accident."

The Fix: Dealers will replace the brake master cylinder and, if necessary, the brake booster.

Additional Information: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating this problem earlier this year. There are 270,873 vehicles affected. In addition to 225,012 in the United States and federalized territories, there are 43,682 in Canada and 402 in Mexico.

School was let out Early, damn!

You idiots. This is an item installed by the dealerships. Aftermarket. Not a toyota product. The product manufacturer is paying for this recall.

Don't trust Toyota dealerships with outfitting your truck with equipment. The Toyota dealers always use the cheapest parts!

Buy quality aftermarket parts like those from AEV.

@Hemi, it hard to comment on Ram, especially for me, I only ever owned 1 in 2009 and after 2 trannies, I ran away and will never go back....on the half ton that is. You brand loyal guys are always the funniest bashing something you know nothing about. Yet most loyalists dont realize if they actually went and drove others they would most likely leave

Every single accessory that was installed by the "Village Idiot" at the Chevy dealership that I had purchased had to be reinstalled by a professional tech. These things happen. In this case it was a case of the wrong person being given the job to install accessories on a brand new Chevrolet pickup truck.

Just because it is aftermarket or an accessory doesn't mean it is not a Toyota part. SET handles all of the parts for 176 Toyota dealers in 5 SE states.

Like I tried to say, this article says nothing about FORDS and hemi is the same guy making all these comments. Hope you now have insurance hemi. It comes in handy for sure.

only 800 vehicles, is this really news worthy?

Must be a slow day if they are posting these articles and an article about vinyl floors...

@ Donnie

This is clearly not a Toyota part.... these are SET installed packages that are not using any Toyota part or you would see them recalling a whole bunch more across the country....

The Majority of ALL recalls involving Toyotas are limited to just SET and GST vehicles.....

You should have not been a fool and stayed in school.

Sounds like a dealer has cheaped out on Toyota buy using cheapo parts.

Wow the Fiat morons are out on this one...

Anytime you feel like talking about bad business and recalls just remember the list of companies Chrysler has and continues to whore itself to simply because it cannot get off its knees and stand on its own. Also don't forget about the biggest truck buy back of all time ordered by the federal gov courtesy of Fiat.

Toyota nor any manufacturer is NOT responsible for dealer installed aftermarket BS put on its trucks (unless directed to do so by the manufacturer like GM's camera stop gap measure or Shelbys...). Arrangements dealers make with local custom shops on their own are completely independent of the manufacturer in EVERY way (parts, labor, ect.

Dealers OFTEN make these arrangements with these local shops to make additional money and provide people with silly custom add ons that may suite individual tastes, wants, desires, budgets, insanities, and whatevers.

The dealer I worked at would go so far as to send a car out (new or used) to be reappholstered from cloth to leather for $1,500. This was very rare but stereo changes, sunroofs, remote starts, and seat heaters were much more common. Issues were also VERY common with these aftermarket non factory add ons too.

Glad no one was hurt, glad its small, glad its getting fixed. Get a life children of Fiat.

This is not a Toyota recall, it's a JM Family Enterprises recall.

Who pays for extra seat heaters in the South???
But seriously- its a Gulf State Dealer problem, not a Toyota problem.

It's not a Gulf State problem. It's not the dealers either. It is Toyota's partner and distributor monopoly for the southeast states, Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC.

It is part of Toyota's problem because SET has a monopoly on the Toyotas in the Southeast. Over in Texas and neighboring states, Toyota gave Gulf States the monopoly. They all shove non-OEM seatheaters and other non-OEM junk in the vehicles. and then represent it as a Toyota product.

It's not as if it is a dealer doing it, but rather a regional distribution monopoly that strangles competition across many states so that Toyota-intending customers have basically no choice within their geography.

Their legacy stranglehold on these large markets cost the average Toyota customer nearly $1000 more per vehicle just to pay off a monopolistic distribution middleman who, as is evident in the article, does business with shady suppliers and basically screws the customer.

Toyota could have made the seat heating work. But Toyota's distributors just refund the money and screw the customer who now does not have the car he/she/it wanted.

Nice job, Toyota and SET!

I put part of the blame on Toyota. When I buy I GM or Ford truck I don't have to deal with a middleman that will put non-OEM accessories on my truck. It is sold at the dealer totally OEM. Or I can custom order a truck from the factory. With Toyota you cannot order your own. And if you are in one of these states you have to take what SET gives the dealers and is on the lots. Toyota set this middle man deal up and keep in mind they prevent you from ordering direct from the factory unlike Ford, GM and Ram. When it really comes down to it, if you live in one of these states, this is a Toyota problem because you cannot get the truck from anywhere else. Latest article on this says 7,800 vehicles involved.

@Scott N.
Good points about the installation of non-OEM parts.
Thanks for sharing.

HAHAHA! Nobody is safe from the FORD posey. What a bunch of children. Given the current and upcoming batch of weak truck offerings from Ford, the posey needs to distract and attack any other manufacturer.

@Scott N. So buy a $300 one way plane ticket and purchase your vehicle in another region? I agree that the South East Toyota deal sucks, I'd rather fly to the Midwest or out of the SET region and buy my Toyota than take crap that SET dishes out...

Pickup truck you need to show the new Toyota 4wheel drive systems nobody have this system,,,

Someone left the cage door open & the HEMI morons & GMSRNOTGREAT are at it again; this was a Toyota recall article & not sure how it became another Ford bashing event...

But hey, it just proves again being No.1 will always create jealousy as who else can they need to look up too...keep following the leader!!...hahaha...

Great time to be a proud Ford owner & can't wait to see their future products, Raptor, Ranger & Bronco to kick butt again...heh heh

@ HEMI ... fyi in recent history, did any of the other truck mfg's have to recently (within past year) offer a truck BUY BACK because of issues??

So no stone throwing in the glass house.

Just curious Nitro, do you realize GM sells more trucks than Ford, that's the bottom line.
Let me say it like this : GGGGGGGGGGGMMMMMMMMMMM sells more trucks than FFFFFFFFFoooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrddddddd. How's that crow been tasting all last year and so far this year.

Of course GMSRNOTGREAT - GOVT motors needs 2 brands / 2 truck sizes (mid & full) to combat Ford's one brand of full size rust proof trucks...who's eating crow now? loose again...hahaha...

We get it, GM sells more trucks than Ford, but GM's Brands (Which Matters most) are getting dominated by Toyota and Ford.
