Best-Selling Pickup Trucks: June 2016

Sales-Header_Fords[1]2

Regardless of the swirling issues in the marketplace — the sluggish global and U.S. economies, negativism in the presidential election and uncertainty about the effect of the Brexit vote — most automotive analysts are predicting that 2016 auto sales will be the best we'll see for a while. And the pickup truck segment is a huge contributor to the record-breaking predictions for 2016.

Ford continues to dominate full-size pickup sales with all three of its plants running at or near capacity. Once again Ford has crushed its month-over-month numbers (2016 versus 2015), this time selling more than 70,000 F-150, F-250 and F-350 pickups. On the flip side, the Chevrolet Silverado slipped in June, but this isn't surprising considering that GM is being aggressive about making sure plant production is more in line with sales at dealerships. With average transaction prices up for both full-size pickups and SUVs, even as market share drops, GM is sure to see strong profits by year end. Still, it seems like GM could sell more trucks if it could get more pickups to dealerships. GMC seems to be in the same boat as Chevy: Average transaction prices are up and market share is down.

It's worth noting that the Ford F-Series full-size pickups outsold the combined Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup lineups in June; however, if you add in the GM midsize pickups, GM crushes Ford by almost 8,500 pickups for the month.

Midsize pickups, on the whole, are doing well with both the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon making a strong push; however, the Nissan Frontier — excluding the all-new Honda Ridgeline — is beating all pickup sales on a monthly and annual percentage basis, practically doubling it sales numbers when compared to June 2015. It has yet to pull ahead of the hot-selling Colorado, however. Additionally, the Ridgeline finally made it to dealerships in June; nearly 2,500 were sold, resulting in an increase of 35,214.3 percent from a year ago.

Toyota continues to struggle with Tacoma sales down for the second straight month. Tundra sales are also down, but we know those numbers will likely be lower than 2015 numbers because Toyota is pushing extra Tacoma production at the San Antonio plant where both pickups are produced.

Lol. Chevy fire sale for june at 20% off on full size didnt cure the fear of getting a gm shake. They really need to bump it up to 25% to 30% if gm expects to sell full size pickups. Their fire ssle from gm is killing the resale value for the suckers that bought one s month or 2 ago. Lol

wow GM is shaking the market

F Series sales are back to what they were in 2014, they were down huge in 2015 so this is nothing spectacular.

Nisssn with the new xd post some impressive numbers as well. Impressive in the fact that the xd is a bigger failure then i thought it would be. I didnt think the xd would destroy the nissan pickup line. I thought it was just going to hurt a little and not completely destroy the titan name. Why buy a weak 3/4 style truck when 1/2 ton does everything snd thensome of the titan xd

Impressive sales for Ridgeline only being available for 9 biz days in june

Looks like that pathetic rock drop video didn't really affect sales. Or maybe it did. Just think how many more F series Ford could have sold... blast you GM. Lol

Ram is the steady tortoise ,gaining a little more market every month but they are topped out in 3rd place, they don't have enough dealers to sell more, even if they could build more.

@ Scott

Your link is to 2015 lol, showing how bad Ford did!!

Look up 2014.

Funny how GM is cutting way back on Fleet and rentals and Ford is increasing in that area , just to get those high sales numbers good job!!

WOW!! Ford is killing it!! way up for the month and almost 11% for the year!!!

Funny how GM sore losers always have an excuse.

Ford was down 8% at end of June 2015. So Ford is stil up 20+%!

At the end of last year Ford was up 4% and they said this was the best Ford would be.

Wrong.

Ford up another 11%.

Nissan Titan 896 sales, down 22%. Yeah they are really steling F250 sales. smh.

WOW, over 70,000 Ford trucks sold in June.

Good job GM 79,271 trucks sold this month!

Anything but ecoboost. My link shows june 2014 sales compared to june 2015. They sold 60,000 in june of 14.... Its in the link.

GM IS IN FREEFALL.
Next time no bailout!

And Ford has the 10 speed coming and a diesel next year.

and Ford still can't figure how to program a 6 speed, and you think a 10 speed will make a huge difference?

They will learn it's a PITA to program.

They are suceeding in making trucks very expensive, however, rebates are up for non battle tested Fords that will corode, and ride crudy.

and Ram still can't figure how to program a 6 speed, and you think an 8 speed will make a huge difference?

They will learn it's a PITA to program.

@LOu_BC,

Where are the aluminum F-150 haters now? Up 40%....since before 2005 and best since before 2005 (04 F-150) was an all time great seller.

.@Ford says the 28.6% increase in F-Series sales in June includes a 40% increase in F-150 sales. F-Series average selling prices = $42,800.

- Best June F-Series sales since 2005
- Best June total F-150 sales since before 2005
- Best June retail F-150 sales since 2005

RIP nissan full size pickups. I don't think they'll be venturing out in the full size market again soon. Could this go down as the worst fail in the automotive industry in years?

People have to remember that Ford has HUGE incentives and this gen Ram dates back to '09 where the GM and Fords are newer redesigns.

Even though the Ram has had some significant changes, the truck is largely dated, like the Tundra. I

'm sure once a new model comes, sales will jump significantly!

By the way while my truck was at the dealership being serviced I drove a 2016 Ford 150 super cab rental truck a week ago for two days. I do not understand why people love it so much. It was very uncomfortable and not near as good as the RAM I have. I will never buy a FORD truck!

stay thirsty.

@anything but
That link posted by scott shows ford sales in june 2014 were 60,560. 55,000 in 2015.

Where is big al these days? Remember when he said the aluminum "wonder truck" was going to be a huge failure and that the titan would take a large portion of sales from ford? Hahahahahahaha. That guy is so far removed from reality it's hilarious.

I wonder if nissan has sold enough titans to pay for that superbowl commercial?

chevy gained 1.7% retail market share in June. Ford lost .7% retail market share. Chevy is doing exactly what they set out to do. When Ford cuts back their fleet sales to 2015 levels, things will look good for Chevy.

Fleet sales are more profitable then 20% off retail sales. At 20% off like gm is not good business

Ram surprised me!
Ram is the most expensive with no discounts with the lowest resale value of any truck.
I thought their numbers would be down.

GM got nothing to worry bout, picking up real people (retail) while only offering 8,200 on LT All Star crew cabs 4wd 5.3L trucks.

The beer cans are only selling to fleets for steep discounts, plus the other discounts they have running. Sucks to be Ford.

I sees a complete refresh happening for the Silverado in 2018. as much I am a gm guy, I has to say ford done a awesome job this year and month and also ram for sell so many of an "outdated" truck..
For those who want to know why ram and ford sales is up, its because these brands offers choice in their trucks.

In my opinion all the gm truck trim levels looks the same.

2017 super duty. 2018 f150 mild refresh, diesel and hybrid option as well. The midcycle refresh f150's are out there testing with camo. Great thing about the 3.5 ecoboost.... The second gen one in 2017 will they can bump the power at will on it since it would just be a tune. So they can advertise a power increase with no monetary investment to give something "new" to the us consumer that is driven by having the latest snd greatest.

Yikes!!!...I would hate to be in the shoes of the Nissan CEO who green lighted the new Titan...oh well I suppose his seat is hot when sales can't even surpass last year's numbers of the oldest full size truck around...

This is too bad as the idea & concept was ok but badly executed. The warrior design was nice but maybe because there was resemblance/copying F150/Raptor...oh well another one following the leader again...

Ford have the biggest rebate sense gm add the aluminum add for add another 1000$ rebate,,

So just like I predicted last year. GM took 40000 miles off the warranty and just like I said 16 sales would plummet. And what is happening? Silverado and Sierra sales are tanking. Told you so !

Good job GM 79,271 trucks sold this month!

Chevy & GMC full size combo trucks = 66,824 vs Ford F-series = 70,937. Johnny Doe your only about 4000 full size trucks short.

Also the Colorado/Canyon is about 3500 units short vs Toyota Taco's.

Better luck next month, LOL

@ johnny doe

Camaro June 2016 Delivery (sales): 4,969
Mustang June 2016 Delivery (sales):9,776
Challenger June 2016 Delivery (sales):5,479

3rd place again in the Musclecar sales.
2nd place again in the full size pickup truck sales.
2nd place again in baby size pickup truck sales.

Looks like a big "L" to me for this month. LOL

Ram is the steady tortoise ,gaining a little more market every month but they are topped out in 3rd place, they don't have enough dealers to sell more, even if they could build more.

Sorry to say, but they're running out of subprime borrowers willing to sign 90+ month financing deals for a Ram.

Besides that, the current styling is ancient and the Rebel re-design is a true to life equivalent of a "butterface", no matter how hard Hegbloom tries to defend it that grille. Now they ruin the Power Wagon with that abomination. What are they thinking???? If things don't change in the design department, Ram will always be 3rd.

Excerpt from the article above:

GM crushes Ford by almost 8,500 pickups for the month.

Hey Blueman Ferrari sold just over 7,500 units last year...the fleet car Mustang that you can rent at Budget rent a car must be better....lol idiot!

Posted by: Ford orgullosa de ser mexicana | Jul 1, 2016 4:53:24 PM

The Ford GT just beat that POS Ferrari at LeMans last week. LOL idiot.

Once again, That's a pretty good second place month for Ford. Just 8500 more trucks to overtake GM.

Look at those Canyon's and Colorado's sell. Ford just gonna be too late to the game. If the economy takes a down turn. Ford is gonna be left with a lot of full size fuel thirsty trucks on their lots.

GM rules, Ford drools.

Ford is King of the Road in sales of the full size trucks for 39yrs in a row. LOL

Part of GMs agreement to bailout money was to inturn produce more fuel efficient vehicles for the North American auto market. Hence, you now have 2 GM mid size pick-ups offering great utility and economy, the most fuel efficient V8 engines in full size trucks, the Volt and most recently a fully electric Bolt. Sounds like a great deal. Don't you Agree?

Posted by: GMSRGREAT | Jul 1, 2016 8:09:56 PM

@GMSUCK - you sure sound like you're trying hard to even convince yourself!...LOL...just admit GOVT motors are still struggling from their bailout & continue to put out junk vehicles with trucks that vibrate & shake....LOL

THIS MAKE PEOPLE BUY TRUCKS FROM THE NUMBER ONE TRUCK MAKER NOT LIKE GOVERNMENT MOTORS BASHING IT. THATS WHY THEY ARE LOOSING MARKET.

https://youtu.be/xd9FrbAgzaI

Damn GM can't even give them trucks away. Colorado/ Canyon taking sales from more profitable Silverado/ Sierra sales. Good business model.

Subtract the f450, f550, f650, f750, f 850, and f950, all of which are non pick up trucks and the ford sales for June are 32,428. But if it makes someone who makes an inferior truck feel good, go ahead and lie, Ford girlies, the most gullible rubes walking the earth.

I don't know anyone who is experiencing this shake phenomena that you keep clamoring about. Don't believe everything you read about on the internet, especially from the FORD propaganda machine.

No differently than in the month of May, the total number of GM trucks outsold the total number of Ford trucks, yes?

The guys who write for PUTC needed half a page of text to discuss the June numbers and still could not bring themselves to just say it. GM sold more.

Can you imagine what their office meetings sound like?

WRONG!

"GM's 'told ya so' small pickups

Sales are conquested, not cannibalized

• The percentage of buyers from other brands -- the conquest rate -- is 56 percent for Canyon and nearly 50 percent for the Colorado, GM says. The Colorado's top conquests are Tacoma and Ford F-150 buyers."
