Spied: 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Off-Roader
Spending summer in a place called Death Valley isn't our idea of a good time. But our spy shooters might disagree; that's where they hang out attempting to capture photos of truckmakers doing hot-weather testing with their latest pickups.
They recently caught the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 doing desert testing. There aren't any off-road testing shots, but we're guessing they're not far behind. If you live in the Detroit area and know where Bundy Hill or The Mounds off-road parks are, keep your eyes open.
"This is the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, caught in what will become its natural environment, the desert.
"An off-road-oriented variant will be the latest Colorado, one of the surprise hits that's rejuvenated the midsize pickup segment. Like the concept that was shown in 2014 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the production ZR2 gets revised front and rear body designs with more aggressive wheel arches and reduced overhangs. There will also be large off-road tires fitted, as well as beefier shocks and suspension components to cope with more rugged terrain.
"Expect the ZR2 to be mated to either the 3.6-liter V-6 gas or the 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine. Interior revisions are likely to be modest, if not sporty. The ZR2 should appear by the end of the year."

After a while, even a blind squirrel will find a nut...
Another GM story! This site is pro-GM. The bias is so strong. smh.
Strong is the bias for GM.
Way more Ford PR on this site by far.
This site has a history of being pro Ford, only a fool would say other wise. Mike Levine was a complete Ford lackey but he got what he wanted by selling out the integrity of this site when Ford hired him for all his pro Ford backing.
Yes indeed, this is obviously yet another strong Ford story. How dare this site post pictures of such a hideous creature. They are just trying to make GM look bad with this ugly marketing spin of theirs.
Only one way for you guys to fix this being a Ford biased site. Have your brand of truck do more positive things and you will not say its Ford biased. The other way is to just not come here to visit and make ignorant comments. Its just that easy. STAY AWAY!!!!!
Less biased in favor of Ford comparing with Consumers Report with Toyota, Honda though.
Hopefully the "large off-road tires" will be larger then what came on my 2011 Canyon. 265/79/17's also with a leveling kit or 2 inches of lift over stock. Tan will work as it will disappear in the pasture
For all the winers claiming Ford bias, here's the explanatory formula:
The amount of accomplishments that Ford makes is equal to the perceived bias toward Ford exhibited on this site.
Class dismissed.
More Ford biased, we always get articles about what x brand did wrong but you don't see that with Ford. And then you have the articles like the one that said the Raptor was going to overtake the world. Lol. Then you have the articles mocking other publications when they rate Ford poorly.
For all you Ford bias whiners. Don't go away mad !!!! Just go away!!!
I find it funny how so many whine about there being no GM articles, even in a genuine GM article. How about you actually talk about the positive stuff this GM truck has to offer? No, you'd rather take up space telling us how this site never posts anything but Ford.
I see from the comments that FrodNuts are very jealous as they should be ..LOL
This Colorado looks AWESOME
And with DURAMAX diesel will rule all...

@ Chevrolet builds a worse way to see the USA; I own a global Ranger with the 3.2 diesel & it trumps the 2.8 duramax (I know, have a buddy with 2 global Colorados with this lame engine & he agrees the Ranger power plant is far superior).
I'm certain when Ford releases the new US Ranger - they will assure this power plant will trump everything else out there...
You Ford and GM fanboys can fight all you want, Ford and GM were designed to be cheap for fleat sales. I buy Ram which is a superior truck by far.

Yeah right Jim, like Fiat wouldn't want any fleet sales too...they need all the $$$ they can get their hands on especially their financial woes & legal woes are far from over;

Why?
Just read an article where the SEC and the FBI are investigating FCA. They stay in trouble!!!
Nice pickup. These little Chevs carry and tow around the same as a half ton. You can see why they are becoming popular.
Being smaller these will be better than the Raptor in many places off the beaten track. The Raptor does look pretty, though.
The little Chevs look good, aren't overly big, easier to park, comfortable, powerful on the road and the diesel is economical to run.
Why isn't there more of the modern midsizers that other countries are getting around the world. VW has a nice one and the Frontier is different overseas, modern with coil springs at the back.
This isn't a Raptor competitor in any way, at best it might keep up with the Tacoma... maybe...
Hoping this package is more than tires and stickers... Even if it isn't pretend truck people eat these things up as image is everything with little trucks. It will sell.
The old S10 ZR2 was a monster of a package. I don't think this will come nearly that close but hopefully it will at least have a locking rear, better shocks, and extra skid plates in addition to the mandatory stickers and tires.
What has really become tedious here is weeding through all the Ford vs GM bickering. Can't we all just get past that and comment knowledgeably on the real content of the articles?
===================
Looks a GM in Tacoma's clothing!
Those square wheel wells are a hindrance for larger tires!
Tacoma owners will tell you, much easier to mount larger tires without body modifications. Case being both my 2010 and 2016 Tacoma's have larger tires on them, with the 2016 needed no modifications to fit them on. The 2010 is built as an expedition style off-roader, different classification with aa payload rating at 2,200 lbs.
And the rear lower shock mounts and tire carrier sits awful low for off-roading.
"I'll take one in white, maybe light green if it's available, with an extended (not crew) cab and the standard bed, with the 2.8L Duramax and 6spd manual. No leather or extras please, I'm just interested in performance. Something I can use all week for work and have fun with on the weekend. Thank you,"
"Of course sir, you can choose from an array of configurations as long as they are all crew cab short beds with a gas motor and automatic, in any one of four of our most bland colors, and with either 15 or 20-grand in extras, no more or less. I may be able to find a white one for you on the other side of the continental US."
Way more front and rear overhang than my old ZR2. Probably won't have (ok, it doesn't have) a full size drivetrain like the ZR2 did. It should have the 4.3, the 8speed trans., transfer case and differential out of the 1500 like the ZR2 did from its generation of Silverado!

The ZR2 never had a full size drivetrain before. It was the same driveline as the standard 4x4 S-10
@Jamiez71, the standard S10 had the same 4.3 and 4L60e as the full size trucks. The ZR2 also had the 8.5" rear differential from the silverado.
Can't wait to see this truck when its done.

Why?

So I can trade my 2016 Colorado Z71 in for the diesel ZR2.
Other forums say this will be an extended cab only but all the pictures are of a crew cab?? I want an extended cab or I will not get one....will wait and see
What's the point of this. The price will be over 50 g's.
