Toyota 4Runner Is a Rugged, Off-Road-Ready Pickup Alternative
Need a tough vehicle for occasional off-road adventures but don't really want to jump into the midsize or full-size pickup truck market? The Toyota 4Runner could be what you need, especially now that Toyota has begun to follow the midsize Tacoma's trim level strategy.
From a relatively small number of capability-first, work-ready SUVs that offer a solid amount of 4x4 prowess, it looks like the 2017 Toyota 4Runner could be near the top. For 2017, the 4Runner will offer option packages and features specifically designed to deliver just about everything an adventure-seeking off-roader could want.
In addition to the base SR5 and top-of-the-line Limited trims, the newest versions will parallel the Tacoma lineup, offering two distinct, impressively configured off-road packages: the TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium packages. The 4Runner will continue to be offered in the ultimate TRD Pro trim as well. It includes the variable terrain system and Crawl Control as well as high-performance shocks, and it looks impressive.
Generally speaking, the 4Runner will be a few thousand dollars more than a similarly equipped midsize Tacoma pickup, but dealer prices may vary.

Nice but I still prefer a real truck;

I rented a 4-Runner last year to visit Big Bear in the middle of a snow storm/a warning advisory was in affect for all vehicles to use chains; although I purchased a set from 4WD Parts in El Segundo; in the end I didn't need it (well was too lazy to put them on); but I never got stuck & was very impressed with the 4WD capabilities...I guess there is some truth in Toyota's off-road reputation...
See, I'm not only a Ford supporter :-)
I think it is a great off-road suv, but I just do not like that front end. Hopefully the new Blazer will be able to compete with it.
This will be my next truck!
Nice truck, to bad the front end is so hideous looking.
Face no mother could love...
Where's the Ford love????

Seems that you're always renting vehicles that compete with your precious Fords. What wrong, you don't trust your Ford to take you places. LOL.
WARNING WARNING WARNING
Saleen Automotive is a name that has been synonymous with Fords for the past few decades. The company has specialized in much needed upgrades on Mustangs and has certainly left a mark in the automotive history timeline with their Saleen S7. But that doesn’t protect them from financial issues. Reports from various Ford dealerships are on the rise with poor quality service and an inability by Saleen to deliver vehicles on time and to ordered specification (isn’t it ironic Ford dealerships complaining about poor quality service….lol…they invented it!).
DANGER DANGER DANGER
In one situation, Red McCombs Ford in San Antonio states that Saleen was unable to meet contractual obligations and had delivered three 2015 Ford Mustangs six months late. What more is that those Mustangs were delivered missing $22,000 in commissioned upgrades. Similar reports of missing timelines are popping up from different dealers with one claiming to have been waiting a year past the scheduled delivery date and still they haven’t received their car.
Just what we need another reason not be buy a Ford! heeeeheeee

4runners are amazing. Pricey but amazing. They also hold their value well. When they hit $10,000 on the used market they basically keep that floor for ten years or more. Many 20 year old 4runners still command that price.
Ive never owened one but im happy toyota continues to build a body on frame offroad suv.
If you dont like that face then buy the other trim levels. Their are three distinct front ends.
Even the base model is more capable stock than 90% of other suvs on the market.
All this talk about the Toyota 4Runner...give me a Ford Exploder any day.
I love the smell of Carbon Monoxide in the morning!

FORD has to rule, no doubt!!!
Love them Yota's too!!!!
I love mine but honestly unless you want a third row of seats or the KDSS system or all the luxury in the Limited version you will probably be better off with a Tacoma with a shell. In fact you would have more options along the middle and bottom trim levels and even get choices of engine and transmission, since the 4Runner is 4.0 and auto only. I still maintain that Toyota should stuff the 4.6 V8 into both the 4Runner and Tacoma.
Some good news for Ford & Toyota;

GMSSUCK; hey moron, I always like to try out the competition. Besides, the rental outfit only had Jeep GC & Suburban available (Explorers all rented ouy);

What a travesty to charge so much for a vehicle and limit your exterior color choices to three and your interior choices to one. Thank you Toyota, you've simplified my choices once again. I'll not pay over $50K for a truck for limited choices.
