2017 Ford Super Duty: All You Need to Know

Super Duty Gooseneck HorseA II

Although there have been a few interior and exterior styling changes over the years, and even a few powertrain upgrades, it's been almost two decades since we've had a significantly redesigned and re-engineered Ford Super Duty.

Now, 2017 Super Dutys have an aluminum body, new cabs, new beds, stronger axles, more powerful engines and even the biggest fuel tank in the segment. Of course, we've done a lot of writing about this truck and produced several videos (one being with the chief engineer) to try to bring you as much of the important information about this new heavy-duty pickup truck as possible... So, just in case you missed something, here's a list of all the stories and videos we've done so far. Enjoy.

What a phenomenal truck! Soon, they'll be seen in every construction zone throughout the country!

I'm sorry, if you were right, I'd agree with you. - Honda Ridgeline runs cooler than that.

Mike Levin is getting his moneys worth out of this pro Ford site.

No other brand has ever gotten so much coverage.

They have to give the ford garbage lots of coverage, how else are they going to sell the crap. The Honda Ridgeline can get the groceries just as good and allot cheaper.

There was a very pro GM article bout the Canyon yesterday, did you guys miss that????

MIKEY - Seen the article yesterday, the GMC Canyon was pulling a aluminum trailer just like the truck in this article. it done the job just as well and allot cheaper, must be a better truck than this POS ford.

The jealousy emitted by the perennial Ford-haters is astounding! More cash on the hood for you from GM...and fries with that shake. Hehehe-heh-eh, heh!

There cheap vehicles , that's why they use them.

When safety means nothing. ( ford quality)

Ford puts there fuel pump control modules in areas where they can corrode and fail. Part of there quality control. LOL

All that power and it will still be slower up the mountain than the GM twins, we've been down this road before people!

Are you noticing a trend yet? Every head to head matchup between a GM and Ford diesel HD in nearly a decade has been the same, and will continue to be. Maybe when the Ford has 1000ftlbs of torque it will finally win?

Nah, Ford still would need a power train to efficiently put the power to the road. Ford can due this but with baby steps. Give them another decade.

Devils Advocate. That can't be right, this is a pro Ford website apparently, so I doubt they ever lost to GM in any of their tests.
Looking forward to some through tests between the 2017 Ford and GM diesels. Though I'll be more interested when both trucks have the 10 speeds.

Nearly 2 decades of lipstick on a pig.

Being a heavier duty class of truck, I hope they reinforced that soda can bed. God forbid it gets gored and gouged like the F150 bed. After all, this is a heavy duty truck that will get used as such.

Its gonna be impressive, its gonna raise the bar, its gonna be EXPENSIVE.

I would wait till the bugs are worked out as there will be some.

The question is how much Fiat and GM respond/raise the bar in response and is there adequate bandwidth in the design to respond?

Probably.

Your groceries usually are light enough, that they don't do damage to the box. If they do you could put a bedliner in to cover up the damage. Fords good at cover-ups anyway.LOL

Let me see here, which would be preferred as a truck owner in ~ 6 yrs, a F150/Superduty bed with maybe a few dents because I didn't use a bed liner, or, a GM or Ram with rusted cabs and bed fender wheels half rusted away. Hmmm

I wouldn't worry to much about the rust issue, they been building trucks out of steel since they started building trucks and they still keep on going.

When it rusts I could put a bedliner in to cover up the rust. Fords good at cover-ups. LOL

clearcoat and paint problems

Truck bed and wheel well rusting. Began with wheel well paint bubbling then rusting and is continuing inside the bed of truck and underneath. Called GM regarding problem and truck was still under warranty and nothing would be done unless rusted through. Truck is parked in garage during winter weather.

I have a 2007 Silverado that the paint is lifting (blistering) on the rear fenders above the rear wheels. Well maintained truck. No chips. The paint just blistered. Dealer looked at it and pretty much blew me off. Chevy listened to my complaint and pretty much blew me off. I've read reports of shops fixing the paint with rust coming through in a short period of time. Anyone with a fix? Or do I get rid of the truck and wait another 10 to 15 years for GM to cycle the problem through. Sorry, but I remember the paint troubles of the mid 70's to the 80's. 5 year old Chevy's bodies turned into a rusty rag.

Rust on 5 year old Silverado. Wow!

Why Do Ford Aluminum Hoods Rust So Easily?

How Much Did Ford Know About the Problem?

Ford can deny concealing the problem until the cows come home, but actions speak louder than words. In 2004 the manufacturer sent dealers a technical service bulletin (TSB) about bubbling and blistering under the paint on aluminum body panels due to "iron contamination of the aluminum panel".

The TSB goes on to say that "testing has revealed that the aluminum corrosion was caused by iron particles working their way into the aluminum body part, prior to it being painted."

Hey Ford, what was that about not knowing this was an issue?

http://www.fordproblems.com/trends/hood-rust/

WOW there like 3 people on here posting in many different names, its funny......KINDA like when GMSRGREAT stated here come the Ford fan boys crying, and now its you crying, then again I couldnt agree with you more, as you should be crying when the military grade trucks hit the street and continue to outsell the twins. Your new name is now GMSRBANKRUPT

This new superduty is a modern marvel. Much like events in the past and thing america has accomplished this new superduty ranks right near the top with such things as Hoover dam, walking on the moon, the autobahn, and the wright brothers first flight. This truck will stand the test of time and join this great country back together again through its accomplishments snd for ever change the auto industry much like henry ford did many years ago.

Gm, ram, toyota, and other pickup manufacture will follow in ford's footsteps. May just take those manufactures sometime to catch up though..... But they will eventually!!!!

2017 Ford Super Duty: All You Need to Know. Still looks like a 1998 model over all, and first big update in over 18 years. So if you like driving outdated looking junk, this is the truck for you.

I don't like the front end of these new Fords. They look very cheap. Even the old Ram looks stylish and more modern.

Judging by the photos at the top, these trucks are for the well heeled snobby types.

Why don't these sites just test normal work trucks.

@ johnny dild still looks like an 18 year old truck but still beating the Garbage Motors like or not.

That's if they combine both of the products. They can catch up with ford been the number one truck sold in America and Mexico.

Even Ram outsells GM HDs. Ha!!!!

Chart says different, GM is number 1. Wish GM did build junk in a way, then their be guys like Powerstroke help, ford tech makuloco, and diesel tech ron to help GM guys learn more. Then again GM doesn't build trash like Ford does. So no need for master GM techs to video problems, because their are none.

What a ugly front end. Goofy looking

I just can't get over the GM guys bashing like a bunch of kids on here and this site post it all. One guy saying 20yrs of lipstick on a pig. Wow. Seems to me like Ford has wiped there feet on GM very easily 20 plus yrs now. The HD sales chart proves it. Nobody is buying many GM HD's They buy the best apparently because Ford is outselling GM 2-1. Even Ram wipes their feet on GM. Childish bashing at its worst.

Well I just bought a 2013 LML Duramax Z71. Love it, what a great truck. Though if I were buying a brand new truck, I'd be surprised if I didn't choose the 2017 Super Duty.

Ford recalls over 88K vehicles due to stalling problem!!!

Good thing their made of aluminum. Easier for the owners to push them home. lol

does this mean the F-150 sales will die off cause everybody will buy the new Super Duty instead?

here is a off-road video of the Super Duty made a month ago

@fairway
Guess some folks in here are more emotionally wrapped up with brand blindness to remember - if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Anyone can web search a hundred recalls, issues or criticism of your hated brand. If that's what it takes to increase you brand emotional tie... Indirectly shows a true lack of thoughtful sophistication - blinded by bias.
What happened to objective analysis?

Exactly!

The emotional part is that you feel the need to do it in the first place - what's the motivation when every brand has their issues. There is no perfect truck. It's personal preference which is the basis of the emotion. Get it?

You mean analysis like doing web searching and seeing a hundred recalls for a particular brand. Doing that type of research is "emotional"...lol

You know Grnzel1 I’m jealous of all the people that haven't met you!

GMSrnotgreat you are still at it uhh. Maybe you should look up the stats first. Your precious GM brand is number 2 in recall spot while Ford is at number 5 based on manufacture brand. So looks like you have been proven wrong again. Even fiat is at number 4. And they have been hiding recalls and data inorder to not perform recalls.

@LMAO, thanks for that link. Won't shut anyone up on here but the proofs in the pudding. That links shows it all. Visited many sites on here and they all laugh at this one. Just had to see for myself. Unbelievable.

And like i have said in the past. I dont care if there are recalls or not. That tells me the manufactures are keeping up with issues. When you have several models with the same part and the vendor screws it up, you will have massive recalls. Like the fuel pump recall for most of the FWD Ford vehicles. I dont care, they are taking care of issues. I just checked CR and Ford is still holding a higher reliability record over Chevy and the rest of GM with the exception of Buick. Buick is doing really well. Over the past 2 days you can tell that the 2 GM turds are running scared. Thus why the many user names and the Ford bash fest. But who cares, we all know Ford set the bar pretty high on the 2017. GM better have something good for their new release.

I have been seeing a ton of new Superduties getting transported to dealers and quite a few on the road pulling large trailers. Likely for meet and greets. I was wishy washy on the looks but in person it is a great looking truck. Cant wait to get a few. Still hoping to get one for my work truck. But my current 06 work truck is still going strong. Hard to build a business case for a new truck when the current one is not costing any money to keep on the road. Just maint. Not bad for a 10 year old truck.

ĹAMO : your link is outdated. Just the one link below adds up to 55 recalls and 830k more vehicles.

Good post!

Back on topic : GM is putting Ford and Ram behind where they belong. Can you say 960 ft lb of torque?!!!!!

Ford Dealers have a shortage of trained service techs and getting desperate hiring all the losers and failures where I wouldn't feel safe having those idiots working on my truck.

Nice truck, too bad nobody can fix it !

Well, they had better seriously up grade that Allison transmission. That unit has always been the weak link in that powertrains for any power improvements. We will see gmsrnotsogreat. But then Ford may just come up with a calibration upgrade. We all know that Trans and engine can handle well over 1000lbs torque.
