2017 Ford Super Duty Video
You can't really call the 2017 Ford Super Duty completely revolutionary, but you also can't call it a simple evolution of the previous generation. You can call this new heavy-duty pickup truck one of the most technologically advanced and powerful full-size pickups ever. If this doesn't push the entire segment to new heights, nothing will.
Among our favorite changes are 350 pounds of weight savings, a 48-gallon fuel tank option, an aggressive three-position exhaust brake, adaptive (ratio) steering, a zoom-in camera and lockable storage under the rear seats. As a quick correction to the exact number of trim packages available in the new Super Duty, they are: XL, STX, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. More to come.

Wow, a zoom in camera, is it Polaroid?
Looks like ford was going in the right direction with the design of the rear quarter wheel well openings and then, dropped their balls.
WOW, another excellent take off by Ford, showing everyone why they are and always will be number 1, nice job!
Ford chasing the truck sales leader again and finally offering their new adaptive steering to customers. A couple years behind, but they got there.

Actually no, you would be incorrect again. GM version is just like the VAPS system Ford had in the 80s. Variable assist power steering. Fords system is variable ratio. Depending on speed and conditions, the turning ratio changes.
GMC/Dogge let grass grew between their feet for a while. Have much catching up to do...
Let the diesel wars begin! Need the popcorn for this one.

The systems are designed to allow better control of the vehicle empty, loaded and at varying speeds. GM HD owners got to enjoy that aspect first.

No worries Vinnie Ford will burn away that grass really quickly and we'll all be OK!

Really hot vehicle!
350lbs weight savings from such a large vehicle?
The additional grunt is good, you can never complain about more power so long as FE is better.
Ford is good at selling little. Most of the technologies used in this pickup can be found in many other vehicles. So, how great is this?
It's just a big pickup, not much more. I wonder if all of this *tech stuff* will attract customer who just want a truck?
Ford could end up using too much tech making its HDs less competitive.
If this truck is 350 lbs lighter then that is a 350 lb bump to payload or towing. No one will be able to claim better tow/haul numbers unless they literally lighten up.
A larger gas tank is great news.
Lou,
I'd like to thank you for your input. The reality is these trucks will not be generally sold on who has the biggest. HDs are more working vehicles than little trucks and 150 and 1500s.
The person looking at HDs will be more demanding in selection of the correct tool for the correct job. So, if a 3500 of brand X tows so much and a 350 of bran Y tow so much they will buy what a vehicle can do. Bigger doesn't mean better when justifying the ability required.
You little truck people need to understand how business purchases are made in comparison to some guy who buys a Raptor and considers it a truck, when it's a toy that can't be used for work.
Stick to buying cars and let truck people worry about trucks.
So did ford go box frame on the super duty this time?
That explains why Ford sells Super Dutys to fleets! Wow thanks for that - they must be used as trucks? Correct? Oh now wait... Ford dumps them to Fleet sales, loosing tons of money. They should go out of business shortly.... Hang on GM and Ram fanboys it's just a matter of time...

It is about time GM fixed their redicously light steering feel. It took years and years for GM to finally catch on to Fords steering feel. Ford just upped the anti once again for GM to chase after.
Gee Em: snap a picture. This is what a real HD pickup looks like.
Who won the last hd challenge?? oh yeah GM
maybe ford will catch up now. Oh wait there is new d-max coming and the old under-powered one beat the more powerfull powerstok,e ford better hope they did enough because is will be a real embarrassment to loose with their new segment breaking truck LOL
WildWilly - There are some that do buy needing max capacity. Hotshotters come to mind. An extra 350 lbs of payload makes a huge difference in a commercial vehicle. The local scalemasters and vehicle inspectors don't tend to bat an eye at civilian use trucks but they do keep a close eye on anything commercial even if it is a pickup.
Any extra GVWR will obviously be used for public relations on Ford's part. That is the nature of the auto business.
Most HD's I see that are sold for fleets aren't max capacity diesels but are base level gas powered 4x4's. Contractors who can write off their trucks tend to buy max spec/max trim units.
Most large fleets will look at purchase price first and then operational costs. That also depends of the expected use and expected lifespan of the unit. Big companies in my region don't tend to care about long term durability because any pickup used in active field operations tend to be beat to death at the 3 year mark and don't tend to exceed 80-100k miles since anything over 60k miles tends to start needing more repairs and subsequent downtime.
I'm surprised more people aren't commenting on how ugly it is. Really ugly. I'd still buy it though because looks don't matter much compared to how it works. Not really excited about this newer one. The powertrain is basically the same and the cab is just the same as the f-150. Love the 6.7 liter diesel. Probably the best engine ever in a ford truck. Anyone know if there will be a version of the 10 speed transmission to go in this?
Beebe - as far as I know 10 speed is 1/2 ton only.
Junk!
@GSMRGREAT
You are confusing the two systems. Ford's actually changes how many degrees you turn the wheel to get a full turn. Depending on speed. GM just makes it easier not less turning.

Your joking,......right? You do realize your comparing a fully independent from suspension (GM) to a early mid 1800 hundreds solid axle front suspension.
What's the good thing about Fords?
They come out of the factory with the problem circled!
830,000 vehicles being recalled by Ford. Wonder how long this site will take to post that. If ever.

Yup and even with the weak IFS in the front that cannot handle the loads of a solid front axle, the ultra light steering feel of the GM trucks made driving and especially towing a not as enjoyable as a nice firm steering feel of a superduty with solid feed back. Leave the IFS to the 1500 series trucks and solid axles to the real work trucks. But girls like the soft and squishy IFS..................
I cannot wait to start the bid process on the 2017's. We need a few more heavy tow vehicles and these will fit in very well with our current Ford heavy tow vehicles.
More gadgets more problems,,big money for repairs,,
Nice job Ford, the best just got better!
GM owners are waiting for the anti shake button, or perhaps to get their steering wheels centered! See it gives them a skewed vision of the real world. Ford has been building innovation for years. The new trucks will out perform all others, but that's because Ford has remained profitable based on selling excellent vehicles people want to buy!
Very, very, very impressive.
Its gonna be good...
Yea but it's still a Ford, will never buy another.

With solid feed back, you mean the death wobble.
@wild willy, thats actually incorrect, those of us that buy HD's do not really look at the commericalized towing/weight carrying brochures, and thats mainly because there is no way of knowing what that exact truck can tow and haul without actually weighing it, case in point, look at all the poor saps that thought their gm trucks could tow all the weight they said it could, only to find out the numbers were so largey skewed....most people dont remove bumpers, consoles, spare tires and so on just so they can tow.
I imagine a totally base F-250 XL trim truck will cost near $50K and a fully optioned F-450 King Ranch/Platinum could possibly top $100K.
These fun, new innovations, and trailer towing conveniences will cost the buyer a very pretty penny.
Beware when your truck payment is more than your mortgage payment.

It could be much worse. Buy an escalade, 100K for a 7 passenger SUV with leather seats and will tow about the same amount of weight as a fiat 1500 truck. Those that can't afford these trucks won't buy them and will only complaint about the cost. The ones that can afford them, buy them and use them. A lot of people buy these trucks everyday.
@LMAO, great point on the ones who dont..... complain about it!
Just like the comment about too much tech in a truck, IMO you can never have too much tech in a truck, then again the ones who dont like change or technology, are the ones who complain, those of who love it buy it..

Everyone has the the option to NOT buy the tech stuff if they don't want it like you said. I have friends that just buy more basic trucks for their business. They just need reliable transportation to haul their equipment to each job site and that is it. The owner however has a loaded 3.5L F150. He don't need it but he wanted it. And he felt it was within his budget. I like the high tech stuff myself so my new vehicles usually have a lot of the bells and whistles. It is within my set budget and I don't have to worry about the added price of the stuff i want. I would also love to buy a Ferrari and that is out of my current budget. But you will never find me complaining about the 350K price tag. I would love the new Ford GT but that is out of budget, but I won't complain about that either.

The same displacement of a truck engine.
@Gm, thanks for admitting the gm screw job.....they followed Ford again like usual....lol
If you want truth in towing capability at least Ram certified their 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks using the J2807 standard while both Ford and GM dragged their feet and may still be dragging their feet.
It is still not clear if Ford is J2807 certified or if they are just claiming to meet the J2807 specs but not certifying their trucks.

Ford has been certified for years now. It makes no difference though, even if Ford was not, they would still drag a ram around even with fiat thinking they are certified

Really?
The engine in the GT only shares displacement with the current 3.5 EB.
Since you went down that path - what about the 6.2 in the GM pickups and the Corvette?
or the Ram hemi and the Challenger/Charger?
Yhea the best never rest!!!! Eat mud fiat and junky shakevrolet or sierra nevada.
We all know what's gonna happen ford is gonna splash fiat and government motor out of the mud for sure. And all the Jealous Government motors fans are crying rivers because they can keep up with the number one FORD.
