Ford F-650/750 Trucks Are on Track for Record Sales
The medium-duty commercial truck market is not huge, but to thousands of businesses that need heavy-hauling work trucks to make big payload deliveries many times a day, these workhorses are their No. 1 tool for getting the job done.
It wasn't that long ago that Ford made big news because it was moving production of the F-650/750 from Mexico to Avon Lake, Ohio. Now that the assembly plant is in full production mode, it's selling more of the trucks than ever. As of August, Ford has sold just as many of the big trucks as it did during 2015. That's not too surprising given that Ford offers several upfitter options for businesses that need this type of truck.
Using a sales strategy similar to the one employed with the smaller Super Duty lineup, the F-650/750 is offered in three cab configurations, several wheelbase lengths and two engine options — a Triton V-10 gas engine and the Power Stroke V-8 turbo-diesel used in the F-Series lineup. It also offers the class-exclusive live-drive power takeoff provision in the transmission that allows the trucks to be used when stationary and mobile.
Although the segment will never be a huge volume player for Ford (around 15,000 units should be sold by year end), the Blue Oval is the only company to offer a full lineup of Class 1 to 7 vehicles to help just about any business. Now, if Ford would only offer these big brutes with a 10-foot pickup bed and an air-ride suspension. That would make for a tremendous tow rig.
During our summer drive of an F-650 dump truck with the V-10 gas engine, we found the combination quite comfortable given the 26,000-pound gross vehicle weight rating.

ford is getting paid!!
Great Job Ford! Now thats Military grade
do these trucks get counted in the monthly sales figures for "F-series" trucks? Do the other truck makers include trucks from this segment?
I really don't know, I am asking.
Several years ago now GM discontinued their line and got out of the "medium duty" truck business. Why was that?
@ supercrew02
Maybe GM discontinued the Commercial Duty trucks because GM was going bankrupt...................................................................................
Wasn't that hard to figure out from a business perspective
Imagine that, Ford moved the plant from Mexico to the US and says went up considerably.
Friend has a 550 Crew cab to pull his 5th wheeler...might be over kill but they go where ever they want in comfort
Several years ago now Ford discontinued and sold off everything they had. Why was that?
Highest these F model truck sales have been since 1997 according to auto news. I don't think its worth it to go it alone when you are lucky to sale maybe 10,000ish a year normally.
these are not counted in the monthly sales figures

What are you referring too? Ford has been in the medium duty market for a long time. I cannot think of a time that they haven't in the past 20 years. They sold off the heavy duty side quite some time ago. GM got out of medium duty in 08 or 09 I believe. Those trucks were OK as we had 20 of them. Electrical nightmares though and the suspension sucked. Right now GM no longer supports those trucks so you cannot even get a shop manual at the dealership. OEM parts are hard to come by. Especially wiring harness.
Way to go, Ford!

No they dont. Someone posted a link a few months ago that it stops at the end of the light duty trucks. Medium duty and on does not get counted on those numbers.
LMAO point was Ford did the same thing as GM like supercrew02 pointed out. Stop make stuff or sold stuff off around 2009 because everyone was in trouble with money.
@johnny, no incorrect, GM was bankrupt, Ford was fine, one thing Ford will never follow is GM into bankruptcy, soon to happen again
Speaking of bailouts, Fords profits plan to keep dropping according to Ford them self. So maybe they will be asking for one soon.

Keep crashin the COMPETITION if there is any. Hahahahahahahaha.
johnny doe,
There are some good links you have given.
I'd say you are more correct than your detractors.
Overall Ford has dropped more than VW. Interesting when Ford is losing out more than VW considering the Dieselgate scandal.
From the ariticle;
"these workhorses are their No. 1 tool for getting the job done"
Wow, a statement of "untruth" if I've ever read one.
Just because a vehicle is selling in larger numbers doesn't mean it's the best vehicle.
It might represent value over a larger audience. But what if I own a logging business and need a MDT off road capable vehicle?
What if I drive 24/7? I would pay for better FE than these give.
How many are sold to government departments? Many government departments have a "buy 'Murica" policy.
So, the comment might be a little inaccurate, a beat up. Why would you beat up a comment for a vehicle??

@ GMSSUCKS; wrong again, F-series sales count are only from F-150-F550...

@Johnny Doe I build super duty's and I can say Ford sales figures will only be down due to launching the new trucks, our entire factory was retooled which costs quite alot and super duty is 53% of profits.
Plus we just posted record profit last year, sorry we have to take a year off from slaying the competition 😂
See the link below for FORD F-series explained. ( if that's possible) THE Ford guys who believe that FORD doesn't include the entire # of F-series Ahttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_F-Series
In its monthly sales totals are dumb.

@ johnny doeby; wrong again; Ford had the smarts not to go bankrupt unlike shaky GOVT motors & FCA recall; didn't need a bailout then & will not need one now; they will dominate the full size truck sales for another 40 more yrs!...LOL...YES, go FORD!

The only thing I remember in 09 was Ford restructured and leveraged property for cash since they owned everything. They predicted hard times so they planned for the future. Which that thinking kept ed them from needing a bailout. Not sure what they stopped making though other than normal vehicle lines and redesigns. 2011 Ford got rid of Mercury and focused on a relaunch of the boring Lincoln brand.
F650 and F750 are not included in the monthly F-series numbers. Here's a site tracking all Ford numbers and they explain what's included and what is not. http://fordauthority.com/fmc/ford-motor-company-sales-numbers/ford-sales-numbers/ford-f-series-sales-numbers/

Didn't see anything about sales break down at all.
http://fordauthority.com/fmc/ford-motor-company-sales-numbers/ford-sales-numbers/ford-f-series-sales-numbers/
Because gmsrnotsogreat has a strong history of being wrong. Here is the data. I thought the F550 was included but it appears I was incorrect about that.
Oh, it almost seems like Ford does not count the chassis cabs either. If you click onto F450, it shows the class 3 Super duty F450.
No surprise here that ford is number one in sales with medium duty trucks. After all, ford is number one in sales across the board. Thats because they build such a great product they easily put the competition out of business. Thats why they sale 4 vans to every 1 van gm sales. MILITARY GRADE!!! MILITARY GRADE! !!! Whooooooooo!!!!!! THE BEST NEVER REST!!!!
What makes the medium duty trucks so attractive is having a gasoline option. In a lot of cases gasoline is the best route for medium duty. Cheaper entry cost, cheaper operating costs when you do nothing but short trips around town or even low mileage usage. Need something to idle all day, gas is the best option. A diesel has great benefits but has drawbacks, just like gasonline. The Kodiak had the 8.1L gas, that too was a popular engine choice. To bad GM got rid of it.
To all the Ford haters out there; it's normal their profit numbers will be hurt with all the restructuring costs the last few years but get ready to rock! Ford's advance planning is all in place to dominate;
- Full size trucks with upcoming new HD's & Raptor
- Mid-size trucks - we'll need to wait a couple years but no doubt the new Ranger/F-100 will mop the flow with all current competition
- Full size vans - no competition here
- Sports cars - new GT has no competition as well as Mustang, still the leader in sales & dominating world sales too.
Check out below link how a $66 000 Mustang beat the competition, got 2nd place from a $200 000 plus winner; ha, who said Ford doesn't know how to build their own engines?!...go eat crow...the best just got better!!!...GO FORD!!!

Really? Ford sold off a bunch of UK brands they had Aston Martin more currently know as all Ford cars are styled off of 2000 Aston Martins LOL!. Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, Mercury..... list goes on. Ford sold out and still need money like everyone else. Like I said my point was everyone needed money in them times.

Anybody who believes in Military GRADE aluminum, will believe anything FORD or Ford authority says or prints. Sad really.
Ford Authority has to be wrong, since it Is the same web company that runs GM Authority, and FCA Authority. I remember the Ford clan crying cause it was pro GM but really they cover all of the big 3. Just saying.

Hello, McFly. Anybody home? F-650/F-750 are not counted with F-Series. They are Heavy Trucks counted separately.

Nitro I hope you are right I would love to get my hands on a fire-sale 2016 Sierra 1500 Denali! I love those trucks! The Denali accents just put it over the top! I’ve got my eyes on a Blue Denali beauty and hopefully it won’t sell before the GM goes Bankrupt! I figure I can get it at 30-50% discount if they declare bankruptcy soon.
Nitro you seem to have all the insider information….when do you think the GM bankruptcy will happen?
Otherwise I’ll have to wait for Fiat/Ferrari to sell Chrysler and make a deal on a new Rebel! I would want a Rebel in Red those things are hot! My dealer can’t keep them on the lot, they are 2 months in backorder and he can sell as many as he can get! Maybe if Fiat/Ferrari sells Chrysler no one will want to buy one and I can pick it up for cheap!
Hopefully sales are down for the year, you let me know….ok?
Bought this 2008 F-350 truck with a 6.4 engine in it from a friend at Hillyer's Ford in Or. Had 44,000 miles on it at the time. It has been a mechanical disaster since we purchased it in 2011. Fuel pump issues, ejector issues, 2 pistons at 2 separate times so now we have more than 30,000 into a truck that has only 124,000 miles on it. It has mostly been in a mechanic's shop instead on the road or at its home. We are never, never going to purchase a Ford vehicle ever again!! That's a shame since we have owned at least 2 Fords ever since we were married in 1973. Tried to get some mechanics to back their work, or help Ford to realize this one is a lemon, but No!! They just want to charge you over 5,000 each time in labor alone to pull the cab and fix the "new" problem.
Ford doesn't want to stand behind this truck and neither do their "certified" mechanics. Be aware folks: They're only certified to charge you a fortune and leave you with a truck that they know will have more issues. Seems this engine isn't much better than the 6.0 one they put in through 2007. We now have a useless truck. So much for buy a diesel because they will go 200,000 miles with proper maintenance. HA HA!! Not true!
I can't believe you bought that truck with that engine in it.
I wouldn't touch any of those diesels from that era.
What were you thinking?
@Wilsonville contact powerstrokehelp from youtube, will cost you but the truck should last https://www.youtube.com/user/powerstrokehelp
2013 F250 6.7L Diesel - Just did my 55,000 mile oil change at Bill Utter Ford located in Denton Texas 11-6-2015. Service writer had technician show me a coolant leak on the driver side by the plastic drain plug. Talking with the technicians I was shocked to find that this is NOT a uncommon issue. There is absolutely no reason for a 70,000$ medium duty truck that is used for nothing more than a commuter. No towing, no performance upgrades. The dealer says 1,700.00 to replace. After reading hundreds of posts on diesel forums I have to ask who is ready for a class action lawsuit. Since 2010 Ford super duty has been plagued with radiator problems, and I believe Ford is still using faulty equipment and hammering their customers for an obvious warranty/recall issue.
You said it Jason! I commented on F-350 3 years ago, well I'm back! After a total engine redo in 2012 at 85000 miles, and 2 more transmissions before 110,000 miles I finally sold that piece of crap to a dealer and bought a Chevy 3500, no problems since. Except I still have a 07 explorer, I mean "exploder" that's what the parts houses call them; 75,000 miles, replace radiator, and both front rotors. New computer module and transmission at 125,000 and a hosts of other noises and quirks. Goodbye Ford! I have many friends with the same issues and some have suffered financial hardships from them. I can't believe an American company could do this to us!
"Are on Track for Record Sales record" great! I bought 2015 F250 Dec. 2014. Drive minimal so now has less than 6500 miles on it. The other day leaving my house I take a sharp right turn driving about 15-17 mph and loss power steering & brakes mid turn. I ended up hitting a small tree. Insurance says it's my fault. Truck malfunctioned. I see a lot of Ford recalls for my same issue. Sadly dealership DIDN'T check my truck out to make sure it won't happen again, cause insurance says it's my fault. Anyone else hear if 2015 F250s with this same problem.
I bought a 2005 F350 with the 6.0 engine in 2009 with 46,000 miles. Once the truck got to around 90,000 miles it has been one issue after another. Leaking EGR cooler ($1300), a brake piston that stuck in the out position which caused the piston to break ($400), 2 other brake pistons that stuck in the out position but was lucky enough to catch before further damage, turbo charger froze up ($300), rust under the windshield ($600), broken idler pulley which is almost impossible to change without removing half the cooling system ($200).
15,000 per year? That is small. Nice to see some growth in the market , with GM getting Isuzu and Navistar( will it be owned by Scania/MAN by then ?) involved
Wilsonvillel, Jason, Mark, Debar, Steve of Texas, I feel your pain. It's too bad I didn't get to warn you sooner. I have been on this site for the last year informing everyone of the troubles with Ford's. Ford is more of a marketing machine then manufacturer. In fact if they spend less on advertising and more on R&D their products could improve.
