The NFL Teams Up With Ford F-Series
The National Football League has had its share of scandals over the decades, but it's safe to say the last few years have been quite challenging for Commissioner Roger Goodell with revelations about the long-term effects of concussions, players accused of domestic violence, the Tom Brady/New England Patriots Deflategate dispute and, more recently, the Colin Kaepernick debate regarding his national anthem protest.
However, a big piece of news that's not likely to cause the NFL much controversy is changing its sponsor, replacing GMC (sponsor from 2012 to 2014) with Ford (entering into a three-year deal).
Ford F-Series pickups will now be the official trucks of the NFL. As part of the deal, Ford will sponsor a new award called the Built Ford Tough Offensive Line of the Week. Winners of the award will be announced every Tuesday afternoon here, and at the season's end one line will be named Built Ford Tough Offensive Line of the Year. Ford also will offer tailgate parties and rides to games in a fleet of dedicated pickups through Uber as part of the three-year pact.
GMC got a lot of mileage out of its sponsorship of the NFL, and you can bet Ford is likely to make a big deal about this new partnership in new commercials as well. It's worth noting that one of the most popular commercials ever to run during an NFL game was a Ram Super Bowl spot called "The Year of the Farmer" (see video below).
Ford also will be running a sweepstakes for a pair of Super Bowl 51 tickets and a 2017 Super Duty customized to showcase the winner's favorite team. Right now Ford does not offer any football-themed special editions of the Super Duty lineup; however, it recently announced a special Dallas Cowboy F-150 edition; each Dallas Cowboy F-150 comes with a special plaque bearing the signature of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Why does the NFL need an official truck? Why not an official food or and official bird then?
Why does the NFL need an official truck?
@Jim
I genuinely appreciate your vibe on this, but surely you realize that the NFL is grasping for every penny they can. In recent years TV has been slipping and lots of TV oriented sports (can you say NASCAR?) are visibly hurting.
Major League Baseball too. Lots of empty seats. In time the rates that advertisers pay for their 60 second spots are going to reflect it.
So, Roger is just getting his while it's still good. In the meantime, the NFL won't allow an icon on player uniforms, but it will require players to wear pink socks (for women's causes) or require somebody like the Rams to draft an openly gay guy with their first choice, in exchange for the right to ditch St Louis and go back to the golden shores of California.
It's the money, Jim. Plain and simple.
Bad publicity timing for Ford. I'd want absolutely nothing to do with those unpatriotic commies that want to make political statements over the national anthem.
I hear that Tom Brady/New England Patriots got a free F150. It's a special edition where the tires deflate automatically.
Colin Kaepernick refused to accept the blue truck above because it had red, white and blue in it.
This is great first Ford moves their plants to Mexico, then they sponsor a truck for Colin Kaepernick NFL.
What do you call that military grade patriotism?
The American flag means many things to me. It symbolizes pride, joy, strength and ability. These all come from the flag of the great country we live in.
The flag symbolizes pride, the pride of our country, ourselves and pride for our flag of America. It gives hope, it gives pride, the flag is a symbol of our pride in our country.
The flag represents joy for the heroes who stood tall defending our country. Joy when the warriors came home to us all. The joy of one, the joy of all is in the flag that flies high above us, the flag stands for joy in America.
Strength is in the flag, and the strength is in the hearts of all the American people. The strength is in our Army, strength in those who lost a loved one on those days when we stood tall. The strength is in one, the strength is in all. It is in America, that stands tall.
Last but not least, ability. The flag stands for ability. Ability is in all of us, it is what we do. We are better at some things than others. Some of us can run or jump better than others, or we can draw or write better, but the point is that we all must bring our abilities together just as if we were colors on the American flag, the colors come together to make the flag. Just as we must, all united as one.
You know money isn't everything in this world. So shame on you Ford and same on you Colin Kaepernick!
On the eve of 9/11, I swear, I'll never buy a Ford product again!

Courtesy you said it brother.
As Old Glory flies in the sky, we are reminded of the meaning of it. Old Glory means a lot to me. Every time I see a flag, I think of the freedom that I have. It shows the unity of the states. The flag is a constant reminder of the justice that we have. I look at Old Glory and see these meanings.
Freedom was won in our country. I have the rights to live my life as I please. Every time I see a flag, it reminds me of that freedom. There was blood shed for that freedom. The red stripes are a reminder of this. They stand for the blood. Freedom is one of the things that I see when I see the flag.
Ford should not be doing this. It's so sad!

@HEMI V8 RAM 2017 - The real issue here is that by selling this truck Ford clearly agrees with the San Francisco 49ers QB, Colin Kaepernick.
He is getting in his 15 minutes as the most infamous person in America due to this refusal to stand during the National Anthem. Kaepernick said that the flag doesn't represent everyone in this country, and so long as people are being oppressed, and there's injustice, he'll continue to keep his seat when we honor the country.
It's a defeatist attitude that only lends to the victories of the corrupt. If Kaepernick is serious about all of this, then he should stand up and show pride in his nation, and encourage others to defend it against the likes of Clinton and Trump.
I ask you why would Ford support this? Any why would any red blooded American buy this version of the truck?
What's the official sport of the NFL?
This is silly. We all know Toyota is the official truck of GETERDONE. The rest is just noise. GETERDONE BOYS GETERDONE!
Bill Ford and family own the Detroit Lions but the Dallas Cowboys get the special edition truck? Gives the home team that warm fuzzy loved feeling, the same feeling Ford customers get when they go back to the dealer to have warranty work done.
As someone who served two tours in Afghanistan, I believe in the freedom that I went over there to fight for. I know have a metal bracket in my knee that I will have for the rest of my life.
As someone who fought for liberty and freedom unlike a bunch of you, I fully give Colin Kaepernick the right to protest anyway he wants. It's you people that shame all our fallen soldiers. If you want to live in a country where people are ridiculed for their views, then please move to one of the many countries that oppress their citizens.
Well said John. Thank you for your service and your TRUE belief in what America stands for.
Also Jake D I thought the same thing. A company that owns one team lends their product to another team because their own team is in the toilet and the other team more prestigious? The hypocrisy of Ford is disgusting.

Ford doesn't just sell trucks in Detroit. Ford and Texas Ford dealers have been longtime sponsors of the Cowboys. They even had a Cowboys truck in 1994.
Ford is also partners with the Cowboy's new team headquarters and indoor practice facility in Frisco, TX as The Ford Center at The Star that just opened in 2016. Highschool kids will also share the field. So it is a perfect match to do the Cowboys truck. Whether you like the Cowboys or not, the Cowboys are America’s team and Ford is America’s best-selling vehicle brand.

@John, well it's great that you served your country. I served 16 years within the U.S. Armed Forces. The fact that you served doesn't make you right, in fact in this case your dead wrong!
Kaepernick the same human-rights genius who refused to recognize the anthem before San Francisco faced Green Bay in a meaningless preseason game Friday, then erased any power his statement might have possessed by later sounding like just another poorly informed social-media warrior who has no idea what he's actually talking about.
Kaepernick is a well paid (over paid) employee of the NFL, when on the job, and wearing the uniform, he needs to do what the employer requires him to do (within the legal limits). If her doesn't like that, then guys like you and I fought to give him the freedom to quit and protest on his own time.
I guess no one bothered to tell the guy who went 2-for-6 for 14 yards at his last game, that the country he's protesting has had an African-American as its publicly elected president the last eight years.
I guess Kaepernick doesn't understand that while he barely throws a football for a ridiculously rich living, there are underpaid U.S. soldiers scattered across the globe - multiple races, ethnicities, religions and sexes; bible-thumping and God-questioning - who would give up their lives without blinking to protect and preserve his.
And it must be too deep, complex and multilayered for Kaepernick to comprehend the fact that the only reason he's allowed to be a lifetime mega-millionaire with an 88.4 career passer rating, continually say stupid things and freely express his inherent and unalienable rights is because of the flag and country he proclaims to hate.
John the fact that you served doesn't make you right!
So John believes if you "ridicule" you should move to another country. Seems to me he didn't put a lot of thought into that. Ridicule is rampant, just watch late night TV, should they move also? That players decision to sit is not a free speech issue, The first amendment protects a citizens speech from Gov't control. The NFL had every right to make him stand, or fire him, or whatever. They chose to do nothing, now the fans will vote with their wallets. If the NFL loses money their view on his actions could change. People get fired every day for posting opinion on social media, that, is an employers right.
Actually, they made a Detroit Lions F-150, too, and they made it even better than the Cowboys.

Chevrolet Renews Major League Baseball Sponsorship

DETROIT – Chevrolet announced today that it has renewed its Major League Baseball (MLB) sponsorship, a partnership that dates back to 2005. Chevrolet will continue to be the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball and also becomes the Official Automotive Sponsor of MLB and USA Baseball’s Play Ball initiative.
Chevrolet is joining MLB and USA Baseball for the second season of the Play Ball initiative, a collaborative effort to encourage participation in baseball and softball activities among all age groups, especially youth. In addition to year-round local events, MLB and USA Baseball are holding an inaugural Play Ball Weekend that will feature youth baseball activities across the country.
“Chevrolet’s partnership with Major League Baseball is a natural fit and allows the brand and our dealers to connect with generations of Americans on a personal level through the support of hometown teams at both the professional and youth levels,” said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet Marketing.
“Providing young people with more access and opportunities to play baseball is an important priority for us,” said Noah Garden, MLB Executive Vice President, Business. “Chevy’s commitment to youth baseball aligns perfectly with the goals of Play Ball. This renewal displays an ever-increasing commitment to our partnership and to youth baseball players all over the country.”
Since 2006, Chevrolet has been supporting Baseball at the youth level in communities across the country through a grassroots, community outreach program called Chevy Youth Baseball. The program is geared toward bringing together a great American brand, Chevrolet, with our National Pastime.
"At Chevrolet, we appreciate the power of play and the profoundly positive effect it has on kids. Baseball helps kids develop, connect with each other, and learn sportsmanship; and it ultimately brings families and communities together," said Edwards.
Participating youth baseball leagues receive equipment, sponsorship checks and fundraising opportunities from Chevrolet, as well as unique Major and Minor League Baseball experiences such as exclusive instructional clinics. In the last 10 years, Chevy Youth Baseball has donated more than 90,000 equipment kits, renovated 9,400 parks and impacted more than 5.2 million kids across the U.S.
This multi-year sponsorship agreement maintains Chevrolet’s exclusive category rights and the car company will continue to present two of Baseball’s most prestigious awards: the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award and the World Series Most Valuable Player Award.
Also as a guy serving six years in the military Kaepernick can do what he wants. I still have 24 more years to go before retirement and if I felt people back home bickered over another person's rightful and peaceful protest I would quit. We serve so you live in freedom. He did not go on a shooting rampage. He did not cause harm. He expressed his rightful views. God help us before we forget our own alienable rights and our founding Constitution.
You people saying things like "you are wrong John" need to give your head a shake. There is nothing wrong about the peaceful use of the first amendment.
I couldn't agree more.
Kaepernick has a right to protest!
Kaepernick has the absolute right to insult the national anthem and all the men and women who have fought and died to preserve the freedom of our great republic.
Kaepernick is a very good footballer and deserves our respect. You may disagree with how he delivered the message, but if you disagree with the message you are part of the problem!
Give me a break Ford fans.
IF YOU DON'T LIKE KAPERNICK'S FREEDOM OF SPEECH, YOU HAVE THE FREEDOM TO MOVE OUT OF THIS COUNTRY!

Colin Kaepernick is doing what heroes do.
I support him – he tells the hard truth not many want to hear. And I thank you again for your thoughtful piece.
Keep it up, Colin.

There is no such thing as bad publicity. The outraged ones are the ones who aren’t fans anyway. All of this publicity is just giving the NFL and Ford more coverage.
Actual NFL fans are annoyed but not going to boycott over a handful of fools when almost ALL players in the NFL are acting just fine and don’t deserve any ridicule.
Glad my truck is built Ram Tough.
Ram the longest lasting trucks in America.

Kaepernick tellingly silent as Seahawks unveil anthem ‘unity’

The Seahawks are sending a message as a team for the national anthem on Sunday, Sept. 11, in a message bent on unity instead of protest.
Wide receiver Doug Baldwin posted a video Saturday afternoon announcing the team would link arms and stand in light of Colin Kaepernick’s growing movement of athletes sitting or taking a knee during the playing of the song celebrating America. Kaepernick cited oppression of blacks and minorities in choosing to make a stand, while the Seahawks — apparently including cornerback Jeremy Lane, who sat during the anthem in their final preseason game — will stand as one.
In the video, which quotes Martin Luther King Jr., the players are joined together, predominantly alternating white and black players.

“We are a team comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds,” Baldwin said in the video, unveiling a motion honoring the nation and flag in what some previously believed would be a team-wide protest. “And as a team, we have chosen to stand and interlock arms in unity. We honor those who have fought for the freedom we cherish. And we stand to ensure that the riches of freedom, and the security of justice for all people. Progress can and will be made only if we stand together.”
Kaepernick has been retweeting athletes who adopt his national anthem stance, along with messages from other athletes who support him. The 49ers quarterback hasn’t made any mention of the Seahawks’ plans, though.
“I’m extremely proud,” Baldwin told reporters Friday about what the Seahawks had in mind. “I’m excited. Extremely proud. Like I said, it makes me want to cry almost, just how our team has handled this and the discussions we’ve had and how we’ve come together. It’s been absolutely amazing.”

Sierra,
I agree with you. Sports need sponsorship, but it is an overkill to call a pickup the "official vehicle" for a particlar sport.
Why not just have Ford as a sponsor of NFL? The company. To me that is better.
Look at the pro tennis and golf. I have yet to see Lowe's own brand 1/4 bolt sponsoring any sport. It no different than a pickup. It's a product.
I would laugh if Lowes went to the NFL and had a Kobalt 12" adjustable wrench as the official wrench for the NFL.
A company sponsors events.
So, what is the official use of the official pickup at the NFL by the officials?
Based on some of the comments here, you'd think CK did burnouts on a flag with a 2017 Super Duty in the middle of a football field in front of a packed stadium while double-birding everyone in attendance during a widely televised prime time Monday Night game.
And why is Ford to blame for "supporting" CK? They're just marketing with the NFL. Ford marketing and CK's protest are not even remotely relatable.
Get over yourselves. The flag speaks for itself and is defended every day. It does not need a bunch of keyboard warriors in news comment sections or Facebook feeds.

SurelyYewJest,
I do see a pickup, even a Ford for that matter like a Raptor being the official or even a mascot vehicle for the monster truck series.
Or maybe the Monster Jam Series can use a - Craftsman, 7/16 deep, 12 pointed, 3/8 drive socket - as the official socket for the Series? Or even a 1/2 drive breaker bar.
Official Truck for the NFL?
Man, didn't realize you need a Super Duty at a game.
What's the official tractor, hamburger, plastic cup for the NFL?
I suppose the NFL will not function without an Official Pickup.
I hear Hanes will be the official underwear for NASCAR!
Give me a break Ford.
the best truck is the new sponsor for the nfl go FORD go you guys don't like I hen FORD is the sponsor of the nfl but its ok for junk chevy to sponsor baseball and chevy having all
l them recalls
RICK,
According to this article the F Series is the official pickup.
Tell me what is an Official Pickup? What is the role of the Official pickup?
An Official timepiece is a time keeper, this might help you.
I do know their are Officials (people) in the NFL.
@wildwilly. aka BAFO, what is the offical dingbat of PUTC? that would be you, Al, banned and then comes back under a different name, different IP, you must have got a new puter?
O Im so not looking forward to a stickered up NFL truck that looks like a halfbaked NADAR reject (like the picks in this article). Now what would REALLY be cool (at least to me) would be some limited edition small batch team specific wheel and paint jobs/graphics packages. I remember the F series John Riggins trucks were beautiful in their burgundy and gold in their day. It would be really cool to see something team related offered. Although cosmetic the creativity would go way beyond pepboys add ons.
Nitro,
What is it with this site? Do all constantly put each other down? Is this a part of how the B&B treat each other?
Oh, what is a BAFO? This has me perplexed.

Ford Fire Hazard Recall Creeps Along
Parts shortages delay repairs of fire-prone Fords
01/18/2008 | ConsumerAffairs
By Joe Benton
More than 1.8 million Ford Motor Co. cars and trucks remain at risk of erupting into flames 5 months after the automaker recalled an additional 3.6 million vehicles because of a fire hazard in the cruise control system.
Ford initially promised parts would be available for the massive recall to repair the vehicles by October 2007. The automaker then said the parts will not be available until later in 2007.

When Ford first announced the delay because of a parts shortage, the automaker said there have been no supply problems for parts for SUVs.
