Ram Risks Box-Office Blunder

RM017_002FN II

The world of Hollywood is similar to a high-stakes poker game where having all the right cards doesn't necessarily mean you're going to win the hand. Take Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, for instance: It took a big gamble by essentially being the lone automotive manufacturer sponsor for "Monster Trucks," which prominently displays Ram trucks, specifically a 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel.

According to Automotive News (subscription required), the makers of "Monster Trucks," a new Hollywood movie set to debut in January, are writing down a debt loss because they don't think it will be a box-office success — the implication, of course, being that Ram could be saddled with a loser film connection for quite some time as this movie lives on in streaming videos, pay-per-view and Netflix-type ordering.

There's always a risk of putting recognizable vehicles in movies because the worry is that, if the movie flops, there will be an association with the automotive product or company itself. We'll know more when the movie comes out early next year and whether it can find a significant audience.

I'm sure the production Rebel version will be a dud as well...

A rather fitting combo. Dud truck for a Dud movie.

If it was a Raptor, Mark would tell you it will save the movie and add sales.

Find someone else to write the articles please

That movie is going to be awesome. I'm going to take my 4 y/o kid to the movies to watch it in my old Chevy truck. I'm going to be his hero for the day. Rock on

Fast & the Furious!!!

Better check your mail box for your latest Recall from Ford.

You hit the nail on the head andrwken. The bias is out of control.

Actually Andwrken it is correct, if this was a Ford, it would make the movie profitable, and most likely win awards because of the Ford, with its Military grade prowess and number 1 truck series on the face for the earth.

Movie was actually shot in 2014 and was supposed to be released in 2015. But it was so bad it got delayed several times. It has a 125 million dollar budget and has become a joke on the internet.

Actually the ram trucks kept breaking down and caused serious delays in the movie. Increased cost due to delays.

We don't really need a cartoon movie, we already have Ford Mo. Co.

Don't like this story, check out this October surprise.

Fiat Chrysler, Cummins spar over costs of diesel emission recall

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-fiat-chrysler-cummins-lawsuit-idUSKCN12A2LD

By David Shepardson | WASHINGTON

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCHA.MI) and engine manufacturer Cummins Inc (CMI.N) are fighting over the $200 million estimated cost for a recall of 130,000 Ram pickup trucks equipped with Cummins diesel engines that could exceed U.S. pollution limits.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board have demanded a recall of 2013 through 2015 model year Ram 2500 pickup trucks with 6.7L Cummins diesel engines because moisture can lead to the deactivation of the selective catalyst reduction system, causing excess nitrogen oxide emissions, Cummins said in court documents that have not been previously reported.

A lawyer for Fiat Chrysler, John Berg, said at a Sept. 23 court hearing in Detroit the recall could cost $200 million, according to a transcript. The auto maker is willing to cooperate in the recall, Berg said. "What we are not willing to do is bear the cost of it," he said.

Fiat Chrysler has sued Cummins to recover the $60 million it has spent to date repairing 42,000 trucks at its own expense, he said.

The legal dispute between Fiat Chrysler and Cummins began in August when Fiat Chrysler sued the engine maker in U.S. District Court in Detroit for breach of contract, saying the Indiana engine company failed to provide working parts and would not indemnify it.

Cummins countersued, saying Fiat Chrysler would not cooperate in the recall "for one reason – money" and said the automaker was "holding both Cummins and its own customers hostage."

When the emissions system fails, the warning light goes on and if the vehicle isn't fixed soon the vehicles go into "limp mode" that allow them to only be driven very slowly, Berg said.

Ford F-Series Super Duty earns Truck of Texas award
LICENSE

Joel Patel
Texans love their pickup trucks, which you already knew. That means the Texas Auto Writers Association and its "Truck of Texas" award is a big deal. And the latest trophy goes to the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty. The pickup truck managed to snag TAWA's award at the 2016 Texas Truck Rodeo. The award marks the 13th time Ford's F-Series has been named the pickup king of the Lone Star State.

Roughly 70 journalists converged outside at the Longhorn River Ranch, just outside of Austin, TX, for the 23rd annual Texas Truck Rodeo where a host of Ford's vehicles won awards. In addition to the F-Series Super Duty being named the "Truck of Texas," the 2017 Ford Super Duty won the Heavy Duty Pickup Truck award, while the 2017 Ford F-150 with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine won the Best Powertrain award. The journalists also awarded Ford for having the "Truck Line of Texas."

Ford wasn't the only winner at the Texas Truck Rodeo, as Nissan brought home five awards, including one for the 2017 Titan in the fullsize pickup category and one for the Armada in the SUV segment. Ram also won a few accolades with its trucks. The 2017 Ram 1500 won for being the most luxurious pickup truck, while the 2017 Ram 2500 Power Wagon won the off-road pickup truck award.

Last year, TAWA named the 2016 Nissan Titan XD the Truck of Texas, but Ford's all-new F-Series Super Duty managed to keep the Japanese automaker's full-size offering at bay. For the 2017 model, Ford placed aluminum body panels into the F-Series Super Duty's body, which not only shed weight, but also make the truck stronger.

Scroll down to see the entire list of TAWA's winners from the 2016 Texas Truck Rodeo.

Truck of Texas: 2017 Ford Super Duty

@BRonco, nice write up, great Job Ford again number 1 as always! Good to see the Titan there as well.

@ Hemi V8.... what truck mfg had to offer to buy back their trucks I the past year because of issues? answer RAM.
I won't even bring up the 'old issue" with Ford's Mytouch which NOT a defect, just had to use, not to be confused with a real safety issue others have. which has since been revised on new cars & trucks.
Yet Fiat/Ram "on line vehicle systems can be hacked!!! Hmmm someone take over your vehicle while driving. yikes. Reading this, makes Ford's MyTouch system not so bad...

Not the first time Fiat/Ram/Chrysler was/attached itself to a turkey... and sadly it wont be the last.

Good luck until their next bailout/sellout/US Gov funded foreign takeover...
