2018 Ford F-150 Video Review

IMG_6154 II

Any time the No. 1-selling pickup truck makes a change it's news, even a mid-model refresh. Yes, it was bigger news when the 2015 Ford F-150 moved from steel to aluminum body panels, then got packed with a mountain of safety and performance technology, but there's still a significant amount of news in the 2018 model that's worthy of attention.

No doubt some wanted more change and it is a little disappointing we won't be seeing the baby Power Stroke for another year and a half, but overall we think that giving buyers more options to customize the look of their truck with a mix-and-match approach to grille designs is a pretty good idea. Whether the tailgate stamp or tire-tread seat design works is another matter.

The 2018 debuted at the 2017 North American Auto Show in Detroit, where we were able to get a closer look. Check out the video below. And, yes, we misidentified the 2018 F-150 to have four engines; of course, it has five: base level 3.3L V-6, 2.7L EcoBoost V-6, 3.5L EcoBoost V-6, 3.0L TD V-6, and 5.0L V-8.

Looks like dog s***t!

Nice video but Ford had the tailgate stamp way before the competitor referred to. The 2009 to 2017 Super Duty all have the name stamped into it. Ford's been doing it since the 1940's. It seems like the competitor took the cue from Ford. Not the other way around.

Best looking truck. Hands down

Maybe but I still look better then you ;)

Looks better. They need to put a dual exhaust at least on the sport model. The single side exit just looks grandpas. Also 50k and no resr wheel well liners? Looks cheap

Got rid of my last pickup in 2010 (71 C-10) been researching , looking, pricing and comparing trucks for a couple years now. The big thing that has kept me on the side lines is the hefty prices on most of these new pickups and I am a huge fan of the old classics over new but I might wait a couple more years to see the real world stats and pricing on this new 2018 F-150 3.0 turbo diesel.

Nice looking truck. I am serious.

It reminds me a Hyundai with identity crisis.
Ford is lost and takes everything from everyone. They don't even know, which face will stick. Nice tires patern on the seats. It lools like technician sit on it for a while, after he was laying down on the floor. LOL.

Wow

Hey there Mr.Ram! Maybe you should check the stats on truck ssles? Ford sold 93 2016 F-150's per minute in the U.S alone last year not to mention North of the Border!!!!! What did Ram do? Dodge is nothing but a piece of sh&t Fiat at best and what is Fiat known for? Building junk!!! As far as copying everyone else? Fords been leading the way with innovation, its like Chevy knocking the aluminum! I'd like to see Chevy's way of treading water when they come out with their own aluminum design's. Shooting themselves in the foot!!!!

I don't eat junk food , even they sell most.

Looking more like Ram all the time.

Good looking truck but to much ram DNA,will Love the diesel 3.0 and the V8 Engines . Hope for the future Chevy 1500 with a conservative Style and a small diesel :-)

this is the umpteenth story PUTC has done in recent weeks humping the 2018/2019 Ford trucks.

Every week or two they publish photos of the latest RAM front end, which might actually scare women and small children. No favors there!

They are on a No-GM trucks diet at PUTC lately. The Nissan gets more attention.

Next up? Another story telling us why we should all go out and buy a Ridgeline.

Good looking truck but to much ram DNA,will Love the diesel 3.0 and the V8 Engines . Hope for the future Chevy 1500 with a conservative Style and a small diesel :-)

Papa Jim, what has GM done lately to make the headlines? Offer a new paint color?

@papa, they have to do these, Ford is on top of all others, again number 1, and they are the ones that are always updating and changing....for those that like the way it was always done....there are other brands for that, you are not forced to read this story

@Nitro,
you mean like they don't know which one of the 5 engines to push down the customers throat, or which front to stick with ? They are lost . The design language is clear Hyundai . Reminds me a different brand ,from different angle. Same old leafs and unreliable components otherwise.

What is the world are you talking about Ram? Forcing down our throats? These engines have been a huge success for Ford. They sell an ungodly amount of them because people like them and trust them. If they didn't they would buy a ram, and guess what, they don't. A mid cycle refresh is not new either. Just because Ram has no money to update you don't have to be critical of companies that can manage their money well.

@Joe,
Ford stagnates with 5 engines and new aluminium cabin and RAM grows with steel and 3 very old engines. I would expect ford to wipe the floor with their " new approach" , but it's not happening and I am impressed with other manufacturers more, like GM, RAM and Toyota to stick with their roots.
Nissan Titan with gasoline engine will gain a traction, but diesel is a flop and Diaz is a disaster for them.

Ford is always updating their trucks in order to keep the attention of their fan base. Multiple grille designs, tacky options and features, (Cameras, man step) sync , (yes, I said it), basically features that have no benefits, are poorly engineered or simply nobody uses. FORD would be better served to have spent more R&D money on building a reputation of solidly reliable drive trains and offer more model choices (mid size) like their #1 competitor and leader in the truck space, GM.

What are you talking about Ram. Ford grew by selling 40,000 more trucks than in 2015. Ram was not close to that growth. And that does not include the medium duty trucks. And we all know we can't trust rams numbers because the FBI found out about fiats number fudging scandal.

Papa Jim, what has GM done lately to make the headlines?

@HA HA HA

Answer?

Nothing, besides selling more trucks than Ford or any other manufacturer during 2016. 2x more trucks than Toyota, 2x more trucks than RAM. Outsold Ford by over 100k units.

Any questions?

@Joe
Ford has dealers parking lot full of unsold trucks, counted as sold. You said,that RAM has no money for upgrades. Well 5 cameras is not upgrade, but RAM has an 8 speed and diesel for several years, which costs lots of money and ford is behind in technology generally. Their 5 cents cameras is not an upgrade in my point of view. No multilink, no air ride for ford either.
Mark is pointing out a tight seams between the panels for better aero, but in the same camera view I see a fake air intakes with horrible aero right beside the headlights.

@papa, or maybe its now GMSRGREAT/JOHNNY. FOrd number 1 always will be, chevy loosing market share, GMC loosing market share...its bad marketing and shaky engines.

How about when you compare full sized trucks to full size trucks both GM twins combined did not sell as many as Ford. Or that chevy trucks are loosing market share even though they are running campaigns against Ford. I guess that is news worthy, EH.

@joe, thats kinda the point, we are talking actual trucks here, they dont need to spin it,

@Ford fans, stay focused and stop drinking the blue cool-aid. All the rants about Ford vs GM full size are cute and all and I understand your argument, it just doesn't hold water when looking at the big picture. It has been my argument that a whole new generation of truck buyers have been quietly unleashed onto the market and they are mid size truck buyers. GM sold 120,000 plus more pick-ups than Ford in 2016 and more than 100 % of that number was mid size pick-ups. Cannibalism is certainly happening at GM as mid size buyers have a choice over there. If Ford is successfull with its re-entry into the midsize market, rest assured the F-series full size will get hit.
But as always, Ford is following the truck leader in the space, GM.

The "grill is more covered then ever before. Not sure why the grill has to be so big when over half of it is covered.

wonder how the overall lighting is. Most of the CUV's with this type of lighting get poor ratings for night visibility

the grill indention on the bumper looks just like my neighbors GMC truck bumper

Let me educate you. Ford sold the most trucks. Ford U.S. truck sales, including vans, pickups and heavy trucks, totaled 1,077,006 vehicles. GM didn't even mention Silverado in their year end press release. smh.

Not too long ago it seemed like ford kept the same engines around forever! Like the Vulcan 3.0 or the 4.0 v6. Now they are coming out with new engines constantly! That must be expensive creating all those new engines. Hope it all goes well!

This site is called pick-up trucks.com . Maybe you're at the wrong site.

The spread between FORD and GM only widened in December.

@gms, thats the manufactures, we are talking actual truck brands here, I didnt know GM was a truck brand, thought that was a company,

Maybe you forgot where you were on December 22 when you told me this site covers recalls all trucks: pickups, vans, chasis cabs, and heavy trucks.

If you don't want it know that Ford sells the most trucks, then don't say GM sells the most trucks.

GM sells more pickups which is only 1 type of truck.

If you gonna count the recalls of trucks, why not the sales? Ford sells the most trucks.

When you sold more full-size and Ford sold more Rangers you didn't want to include small trucks, only full-size.

Then when Ford started selling more full-size you wanted to include SUVs.

Now you're back to adding small pickups.

When Ford starts selling Rangers again and more pickups I guess you'll go back to the hamburger argument.

Bunch of hypocrites you GM guys are.

Early in my life I was led to believe in Santa Claus, the boogeyman, the tooth fairy and Ford sold the most trucks. As I attended public schools and was introduced to other views and cultures, these mythical beings and Ford selling the most trucks were all debunked. I was faced with the dilemma of following my childhood beliefs or accepting the new truths, reality and becoming a man. I choose the latter and I recommend you do too.

@GMSRGREAT

It could be that Nitro or Dave have a lot of Ford stock and they are a little sad over the sorry performance of that company's stock prices in the last 12 months.

This is pickuptrucks.com which covers all trucks, not just the one type of truck you wish to count at the moment.

We all know about Ford's record sales on full-size pickups.

But Ford also has record sales on heavy trucks...

Which Automaker Sells the Most Vans?

Ford of course.

GM gets out of selling vans to sell less small pickups than Toyota and less trucks overall than Ford....

@GMSRGREAT and papajim

Or it could be you and papajim are like Obama a sick flailing egotistical statist watching GM's power and leadership slip away.

Business as usual. GM operatives have no shame.

@Frank/Dave,

Its only GMS,PAPA, and johnny that seem to not understand how brands and companies vs market and category work. Enough said....

Why should I be ashamed by stating the facts that GM sells more trucks than Ford. You should be ashamed of trying to argue against the facts.

Question?
I just bought a new 2016 F-150 in Sept. 2016.
How long should I wait till I buy a new F-150 ?

What I mean is the 2017 and 18 F-150 has only minor changes so it's the same truck as my 2016 so it wouldn't be that exciting to buy a new one cause it's the same truck.
I only put 5000 miles a year on my F-150 cause I also have a car and a company owned vehicle I drive much more.
(sometimes my 2016 F-150 sits so long that the brake rotors rust and lock up)

It's my thing to have the nicest truck in town
When my friends and co-workers get a new truck I get envious and I have to get a new truck even if I don't need or use one that much.

Can anybody feel me?

@BankruptinPA

that is a sad story. I enjoy every minute in my truck. Maybe you should see a specialist. If that doesn't work, check with one of your area's GM dealers about a getting a great deal on your 2016 traded towards at brand new GMC or Chevy pickup.

@papa, or in your case a Gm pickup, oh wait, thats not a brand...

@Nitro

That is a correct statement. GMC and Chevy are both brands owned by GM. Either of their trucks could correctly be called GM trucks.

It would be kind of like referring to a Mercury (oops, no longer in business) or Edsel (oops, no longer in business) or Lincoln (about to join Edsel and Mercury in the Ford ash bin).

Summary: Ford is a corporation that makes pickups, and formerly consisted of multiple brands. GM is a corporation with multiple brands that sells a dominant and hugely successful line of pickup trucks.

Yes there are alotta Ford stories. Since Ford is doing all the cool new stuff that makes perfect sense. Ford is currently the only truck with a modern body material, 360 cameras, modern twin turbo v6s, offering the most engines, with a new tranny this year, new engines this year (and next), along with the refresh and all new modern best selling Super Duty coming as well. What is GM doing? Not much... ZR2 on the horizon... that's nice. Hear of the Raptor. O that's right if you get a new headline or 2 for every thing you do and all you do is come up with black trim packages and an offroad package youre gonna lose out to pioneering aluminum bodies, modern turbo engines, and the most advanced tech features. Im sure GM will get an article when they finally find a place to put the DEF tank on their HDs that isn't in everyone's face. That's the really wild thing you can get headlines for not even pioneering but just for catching up and GM doesn't even do that. Ford will be brining a modern small diesel to the 1/2 ton market a move Fiat pioneered and proved and that will garner headlines. When GM does something again like go broke, kill a bunch of people with an ignition spring, bring a modern V6 or small diesel into their full size line, come out with another blacked out trim package they will get an article im sure.

Papa Jim, how is the GM Hummer, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Saturn, medium duty divisions doing? How about the declining Cadillac division. Is it not Cadillac sales are declining while Lincoln is on the rise. Especially since they are breaking free of altering existing Ford vehicles and going their own direction?

How about chevy trucks? Why are they having a steep decline in sales?

It's my thing to have the nicest truck in town

Well first if you're driving a Ford, it is not the nicest truck in town. That distinction belongs to the GMC Denali. May I suggest a Black fully loaded crew cab. You pull up to an intersection in one of those beasts and you suddenly become the envy of everyone around you. Oh, get the 6.2 L enginew.

GM stock is way up during the last 12 mos.

Ford?

Over the past two years Ford shareholders have gotten slammed.
