Ford F-150 Raptors Head to China

Raptors-China_22 II

Say what you will about increasing political tensions between the U.S. and China — Ford may have found a way to help the situation in the form of the brand-new 2017 F-150 Raptor.

"Raptor's unique looks and capability have generated amazing buzz at every auto show we've brought it to around China," David Schoch, vice president and president of Ford Asia Pacific, said in a statement. "[The] F-150 Raptor is another example of our commitment to offer a wide range of vehicles for customers in China — everything from SUVs to high-performance cars and trucks."

Ford started shipping the high-performance F-150 Raptors to China as part of its first official F-Series export program with that nation. Ford already exports high-performance cars such as the GT, Focus RS, Focus ST and Fiesta ST to China. The exported 2017 Raptors will all be SuperCrew models and include all the features that make the unique pickup special: a 450-horsepower, twin-turbo 3.5-liter engine; 35-inch BFGoodrich tires; Fox Racing shocks; and a new multiselect Terrain Management System. It's likely to create quite a stir in China's highly populated cities and on remote backcountry dirt roads.

Ford would not provide the selling price of these exported Raptors, but it's likely similar to what Raptors have been sold for in other countries, meaning they run about double what they sell for in the U.S. Additionally, although Ford does not break out Raptor sales from other F-Series numbers, some have suggested as many as 15 percent of all Raptors rolling off Michigan's Dearborn Truck Plant assembly line are likely to be exported.

This is a very good news for American products to beat Japanese and Germans products overseas.

Nice, sounds like good profit!

Go Ford! Nicely done

Anything else pro-Ford on this site?

Bias news coverage means lack of trust!

Good luck trying to beat Toyota trucks that are sold in just about every nation in this world!

Oxi

Ask a Chinese is Tundra a Japanese and listen to his answer.

But don't ask Oxi or a red neck - if you do - remember the old adage, "never wrestle with a pig. You'll both get dirty, and the pig likes it," holds especially true here

@ oxi: Really? Ford, GM, and RAM have made more significant changes to their light truck line up in the past three years than Toyota has made in the last ten. So, why do you claim bias?

Here's more evidence to back up my point: just check out THQ. That site is now collecting dust...

oxi, What news are you looking for? Tundra HQ hasn't posted any news all year. Tacoma HQ hasn't posted anything at all this year either and there last news post was on December 1. Blame Toyota itself for lack of news. You guys are now also on TFL saying they are now Ford biased, too? You guys who claim bias are a joke.

lol @ oxi,

There's no crying at PUTC.

Can't wait to see photos of the customer waiting rooms at Chinese Ford dealerships.

Does anyone know how to say, "don't call us, we'll call you" in Chinese?

Ford is selling like Hotcakes around the world. Ain't nobody want a stinkin chebby....yonke!

@papa jim,

The Russians are buying them all from the China.

I would think the Chinese prices would be higher than most other countries.

The Raptor selling in China is good news. But full size pickups will be a niche.

@papa jim,
No one will buy this for work, especially when you can get into a 70 Series Landcruiser V8 diesel for $20k less.

They will sell, but in small numbers.

What is good about this it will for the grey importer of Tundras to reduce their prices. The company converts high end Tundras and sells them for $120. Ridiculous money.

One thing though ask these guys how much a Mitsubishi Triton, BT50, Amarok would cost in the US. I'd bet that they couldn't or wouldn't answer you. There comment will be but who wants one.

I can say the same about the Ram 1500, but obviously 10 or 20 people a month will buy one.

That is what is great about Australia's vehicle import regulations we can sample any vehicle we want.........if you have the cash, something that doesn't and can't occur in the US.

What needs to occur is for the US pickup manufacturers like FCA, Ford and GM to make RHD pickups for our market.

Toyota and Nissan already make larger pickups, ie, Patrol and Landcruisers.

Full size US pickups will sell for half the price they currently do. I don't think many who read and contribute to PUTC understand the vehicle conversion industry as it is alien to them. As this article pointed out it cost $39 000 for a conversion job. That is twice the price for a single cab midsize work ute here.

If the manufacturers made full size pickups in diesel with a real one tonne payload they would sell in far better numbers.

But it isn't feasible for this to occur due to our small population and market size.

I would love to see all US pickups offered here through their respective dealerships.

Australia is probably the most viable full size pickup market outside of the US and Canada. But it is too small, not per capita, but overall.

Even my BT50 runs a 3.2 diesel and can tow 7 800lbs and in the bed I can load 2 700lbs.

Will these Rams be 4x4? If they are will they come with standard features like locking diffs and all of the acronyms for off roading like the Ranger/BT50/Colorado/Amarok have?

From what I can gather even the Ram Rebel isn't as well configured to off road as well as a base model 4x4 here.

So, the people who buy these will be buying something more unique than what is the norm here.

I hope they are successful and sell in quantities to keep this guys conversion shop operating as he was shafted by FCA.

They will be a nice addition to what on the roads already, but a guy at work had a 2011 Ram 1500, he just went out a bought a diesel Silverado 3500 dually.

He said the Ram looked nice and went well with the Hemi but he would of been better off with a Landcruiser.

I suspect that most of the cost increase is due to Chinese regulations and taxes, not additional profit for Ford. I would like to see our country return the favor on imported Chinese products. Preferably more to compensate Americans for having to breathe the air that the Chinese have polluted and for the blatent theft of our intellectual knowledge.

Paint 'em red, white, and blue and send them over. Love it!

In Tahiti, I checked with local Ford dealer, new Raptor w/full options will be in the range of 12 million XPF local currency; approx. $105,000 USD with todays exchange rate. A good part goes to the GOVT's importation taxes approx. 55% with the shipping costs included + license to put on the road + dealer markup.

So you guys in the US should stop complaining & consider yourself lucky to pay 50-60 grand for one of these rare amazing trucks...

@Lionel,
First up, my comment to you isn't the onset of a discussion. There will be no discussion.

The US doesn't have the choice we do. Period. Why do you come out with these ridiculous trouling comments all of the time.

You speak as if you are an authority and know it all, but yet you continually prove yourself to be very limited with any knowledge in what you state. Or again you are trouling.

The same can be stated towards your view in regards to the restrictions placed on commercial vehicles imported into the US market. These are non-existent.

So, if the US only has what is only manufactured in the US and again with limitations placed on numbers to make it economically viable to produce in the US market places a very large restriction on what is on offer in the US.

We just don't have midsizers. We have trucks of all sorts that do the work of HDs onwards and I might add they are designed to be task specific, not adaptation of one style of vehicle.

The US market for commercial vehicles is like fishing. You buy a general purpose fishing rod and it's good for very little. It will catch fish. But if you are bait casting, buy a baitcaster, if you are beach fishing you buy a surf outfit, etc.

If you want to tow a large 5th wheel RV you buy a Iveco or similar vehicle or a HD.

We have what you have in full size trucks. If you want one you can buy one, then add the 15 different manufacturers of midsizers, you end up with a most impressive pickup market.

Ranging from cheap to large to extremely fast with a sports sedan level of performance. You guys just don't have anything like that.

This is not saying that full size pickups are bad, as they are not they are great, but so is every other ute/pickup we have that you just don't receive.

That is how our commercial vehicle market is.

Good night very DiM.

@papa jim,
Any interaction with you isn't friendly.

You are a really do have a problem.

You are quite weak as an individual.

Why else do you hide behind many of those handles you use on the net.

Your comments aren't friendly they are provocative and divisive. Your comments are aimed at creating dissention.

Why else do you knowingly submit the comments you do?

See a doctor Alex, you degree might help you.

Or Cory, or papa jim.

You are sick, you spend your life on the net thinking of the supposed power and kick you get out of your comments.

When in fact you are only deluding yourself. My responses to you over the past couple of years are measured to watch your reaction and how you attempt to amplify and incite what you think is anguish.

I've been leading you. Just read how all of our interactions over the past are going to lead you into a dead end.

I don't think you are as good as you consider yourself.

But, a truly sick person can never see this.

^changes his name and accuses others of having multiple names on here, that's kind of tacky.

@ James BUTT; did you forget to take your medicine today old man or you just got out of bed the wrong side...or both?

Your idiotic post was completely off-track from my simple post - a recap;

The huge difference in selling prices of the new Raptor overseas...full stop. I can give more examples too of other truck brands (or cars) if the reason for your ranting was because Ford brand was in the equation.

So to get back on subject; it would be interesting for PUTC to do a comparable article on selling prices of US built trucks overseas. For example - the selling price of this new Raptor in the world's largest population (China) compared to a probably one of the smallest islands in the South Pacific (Tahiti - approx. 240 000 pop) that have high demand for luxury cars & trucks.

Man there are some weirdo's & idiots on this site...

At Last!!! It is revealed where Ford dumps their recalls. :)

Here's the garbage that will be going to China, now they can put up with the crap North Americans get to see from ford.
Quality is job none.

"some have suggested as many as 15 percent of all Raptors rolling off Michigan's Dearborn Truck Plant assembly line are likely to be exported."

Canada is not a US State,so that is an export market

Send them to China where they don't know what an engine is supposed to sound like.

@David Robertson
No they are selling the Raptor in fairly low numbers as a niche product to the Chinese middle class. They exhibited them at various Chinese Auto shows and they were fascinated by the desert running
Chinese middle class which is now bigger than the US middle class buys a lot of European luxury cars
Sales of Automobiles in China last year were 22 Million vehicles.
That would include Pickups

Fortunately, the Chinese will have a choice of purchasing this Ford toy or a pick-up that you can actually do work with.

With gina's unimproved roads they may not even notice the chevy shake. But I hope they don't get to many over there or else there will be an increase in typhoons due their problematic shaking. The planet can only handle so many shaking chevies before the earths crust can't take anymore.

You're the one who brought your sister into this.

@robert ryan

Please take what you read about China's economy with a grain of salt.

Yes, there is no question that their growth rate during the last 15 years is very exciting. However, middle class life in China is a lot different than what we call middle class in the western governments.

As crappy as life has been for Europe's middle class during the last 30 years I'd much rather live in Denmark or Belgium than live in Beijing. Not even close.

China is on the move, but their middle class is nowhere close to what we have in the US

WOW. First you want to talk about liking it rough and now you mention a sister. Your a whole new level of just wrong

@papajim
It is China's Upper Middle Class that is driving car and luxury consumption.
That is why as China keeps growing, this will increase.
China has a massive number of poor, 500 million. still it has 770million in the workforce.
It's extremely wealthy Upper Middle Class buy expensive homes outside the country.
