2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Video Review

034A3420 II

After spending a couple days behind the wheel of the all-new 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 pickup truck on brutally rutted and greasy hill climbs, as well as high-speed dirt tracks (we may have taken a few jumps), we can say this truck is dialed in.

We had the chance in between trail rides, highway driving and dirt road running to stop at a few places in the Colorado high country to talk about a few details we like and didn't like about this new 4x4. This pickup will definitely make waves in the segment, but we question whether this might be an unlucky break for GM since it's releasing a great little pickup into a slumping market.

Here are a few of our thoughts and observations, but if you want to read more, check out our top five likes and dislikes, and our full First Drive review.

Square wheel wells = square of a truck!

I love how the bars are to protect from rocks, yet they are not fastened to the frame, one little knock and bye bye rails.....EPIC FAIL

Nice little truck. Should get you wherever you want to go.
Good Job GM.

This sort of item is a ten percenter at best.

Kind of like a Shelby Mustang or a Corvette in that regard. Price alone puts it into a narrow slot marketwise.

The good news is you can get a performance-oriented vehicle for less than 50k. The bad news is that very few mid size truck buyers are looking to spend north of 40k for a pickup.

You only need to look at the sales figures for the Nissan Frontier to realize that they sold a ton of the very aged Frontier during the last 2 years to customers who paid less than 30k.

This 20k to 30k price range is where the mid size buyer wants to be.

One of the smart things Toyota did way back was offering an off road themed pickup called the Pre Runner at an affordable price. You could even get 'em with 2wd if I remember correctly and for many people it was the look/feel of a racer without the price tag.

Five articles in a row on the ZR2. Someone at PUTC wants one of these very capable offroaders.

You can tell Nitro wants to sell his powerjoke Ford to buy a ZR2.
