GM Pickup Plant Wins J.D. Power Award

GMFortWayne113 II

GM's Fort Wayne Truck Assembly plant in Indiana, the main production location for light- and heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks, has earned the J.D. Power Gold Plant Quality Award, which recognizes plants that deliver the highest quality of manufacturing in the country.

Plant quality awards are given to facilities that produce vehicles with the fewest defects and malfunctions found in vehicles produced in those plants, excluding design-related problems.

The Toyota's Kyushu plant in Japan, which produces the Lexus ES sedan and Lexus RS SUV, received the J.D. Power Platinum Plant Quality Award, the highest plant award J.D. Power bestows. The other Gold Plant Quality Award winner for the Europe/Africa region was Porsche's Leipzig plant in Germany, which produces the Cayenne and Macan SUVs.

Great job. GM

This is why I drive a Chevy!

More pro GM gov't media propaganda.

Now sit back and watch what the ford girls have to complain about. It really bothers them when there ford garbage is not the main focus of a article.

lol so by that logic, the Ford peopledont complain much because this website is biased toward Ford, remember? Haha

GM, the best just keeps getting better! Great job GM!

Be nice if the factory taught the styling guys a few things

Must help to import so many parts.

I don't know what to make of Fort Wayne myself. My wife and I just went through there a week ago on our way back from Maine. We couldn't hardly find any restaurants open later than 8:00 PM.
One Mexican restaurant said they would be open to 9:00, so we back track a mile and a half, and drive 8 miles.

CLOSED! They didn't just close either, by 8:30, they were all gone.

Hope the GM trucks don't have the same disapointment.

Only single and double cabs are made here. Majority of crew cabs (most popular option) is made in Mexico. Some but not all crew cabs are made in Flint, 2500 only though. How much of the sold GM trucks come from this plant?

Fort Wayne?

@TRX4Tom

My 2009 Silverado is a Ft Wayne pickup and I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. Apart from some of the squeaks/rattles crap that Chevy's are known for (leaf springs replaced fixed it), it's been a great buy all the way!

I see a lot of 1/2 ton crew cabs on truck haulers heading east between KC and St. Louis, I just figured there was a plant out west.

So they give out 3 awards. An award for Europe, Asia/Pacific and North America? what about other parts of the world?

What about the Craptor plant!!!!!!! I am so SICK AND TIRED of hearing about the CRAPTOR and all of the KOOL-AID GUZZLING FORD GIRLY GIRLS singing its praises day in AND DAY OUT.

Congrats to GM for winning yet another quality award. Does Ford ever get any type of recognition other then recalls?

My truck was built there and this month I had it for two years. I never had to take it back for any problems.

Here is a good example of how ford takes care of America.
This won't get you any awards.

#FakeNews!!

@papajim, yeah, Fort Wayne.

Come to think of it, my 2006 Chevy ext cab was poorly built.

Sounds like it came from there.

I know that was a long time ago, things might have changed.

I couldn't stand it over a year.

If they painted the wheels the same color as the rest of the truck, they'd sell more than Dodge and not be in 3rd place by the end of the year.

(GM) they'd sell more than Dodge and not be in 3rd place...

@holycamoly

Do some reading. GM outsold Dodge/RAM in every year I can remember, and outsold Ford the last two years.

Third place?

Third place?

Stop playing dumb. Ram outsold Chevy for the last 3 months or so.

@Chris

Me dumb?

Re-read my comments and do some fact checking PUTC documents these stats every month and at the end of every year.

Re: Pickup sales. General Motors outsells Ford (2015, 2016) and RAM consistently.

You really can't be that thick!

I was born and raised a Chevy guy and I have tried a few Ford's but it just didn't work out

That's what we are talking about. I know you like to do combine to make yourself feel good, but GM has lost its third place (Chevy Silverado) spot to Ram.

For the last 3 months Ram has outsold the Silverado.

All it will take is one more good month for Ram and one bad month for Chevy for Ram to secure the yearly spot as well.

If GM had better looking trucks and didn't slow walk innovation, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

6 years ago I was like you and said Ram would never outsell Chevy and I was wrong.

RIGGED!

@Chris

Sorry, but you're not "like me." If you were like me this math would not be that hard for you.

Chevy totals + GMC totals EQUALS the total for GM.

Repeat after me: GM makes trucks...Ford makes trucks

Which company makes MORE trucks? Not RAM, not FORD.

General Motors.

You are what is called a drone. Like a liberal drone. Chevy Silverado is in 3rd place. Ford is selling more trucks than all of GM's trucks combined. Good day.

@papa, sorry you still don't get it, and have to constantly defend all of the twins, and come up with ways to count until you feel you have won, I wish GM felt the same way as you, maybe they would build better trucks if they had the same thoughts, maybe then they could lead, and not follow Ford. What if they would have been first to do aluminum? Maybe then they could have claimed military grade.....you should work for GM, they are obviously struggling (F-Series outselling all of GM's truck lines combined and Silverado falling to Ram 3 months in a row), and don't share your passion.

I love how these shaky govn't motors fangboys like papajim twist facts around.

Sorry in advance. I do not like G.M's styling although perfer GMC over Chevy. Saw a buckled tail gate on one a long while ago from a load shift and the china made wheels plus drum brakes screams cheep to me. Haven't looked to buy one since 03. Been very happy with my Mopar's.

The plant may be good, but tell that to all the folks with shaky motors, bad engines on the 5.3 and broken sparkplugs.....the reasons why people are running from GM

bad engines and broken sparkplugs.....

That's a Ford exclusive.

Congrats to GM for winning yet another quality award. Does Ford ever get any type of recognition other then recalls?

Yes Ford does, its called sales, as in being #1 with buyers and thats what actually matters.

@FXDX1450

Ford was once a company with four brands: Ford, Edsel, Lincoln and Mercury.

Today Lincoln is about to become an asterisk. Mitsubishi probably has more dealerships than Lincoln.

Edsel and Mercury famously failed.

Ford is the single remaining brand. Good luck with that.

all Crew cab GM half ton trucks are built in Mexico, only the double cabs are produced in Ft. Wayne. I believe all the HD trucks are built in Ft. Wayne.

Congrats to GM for winning yet another quality award. Does Ford ever get any type of recognition other then recalls?

I think Ford is content just selling the most trucks. You're right on recalls. GM doesn't have as many. I guess when you let everyone else innovate and then copy them 5-10 years later, you shouldn't have those "bugs" to work out. Just think, GM people will soon have easier bed access via the tailgate step that Ford has offered for about 10 years now. That's how long GM took to figure out how to make it work without violating Ford's copyright. All the while they made fun of it. Eat your crow johhnydoe/GMGRETTA/papa

I love the led running lights and vertical fog lights. You can say they copied Ram on the fog lights, but not really since this truck came out 9 years later than it was supposed to. That's how I roll....

@papa, sorry you have to defend GM buy saying what Ford used to do, so I completely agree with you on this, Ford learned the lesson, and is now crushing the competition with 1, great point Papa.

HAHAHAH Liberal Drone, AHAHAHAHaH, very funny Chris.

@Frank

You need to wear a bib to keep the drool off your shirt I bet.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH p@p@dvmba$$

The Nitard is like a broken record. Don't you have any better material than this?

GM sells more trucks, find a way to prove that statement incorrect.....

Ford outsold 4 brands of GM Trucks with one F-Series Brand of Truck.

Here you go.....

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2017/06/best-selling-pickup-trucks-may-2017.html

@akward, yes the proof is in this site if you read about it when they release the figures, now of course you can always go back say well, other years.........but we are talking about now, and Ford has been number 1 anyway by itself for 40 years, Chevy and GMC continue to fall, ram will be number 2 shortly solidly. Not sure why the Gm folks have such a hard time understanding things.

Yes Ford does, its called sales, as in being #1 with buyers and thats what actually matters.

If you mean buyers as in fleet managers, then yes.

, and Ford has been number 1 anyway by itself for 40 years,

Posted by: Nitro | Jun 27, 2017 1:08:58 PM

You should have written " and Ford has been number 1 anyway by itself, in my own little world, for 40 years.
