If Ram has its way, there's going to be a new top contender for the most luxurious pickup truck. The pickup folks at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have come up with a new top-end trim level for the Ram lineup, the 2018 Limited Tungsten Edition. We weren't aware that tungsten was a precious metal above platinum, but apparently certain design teams are running out of cool metals to name cars and trucks after.

In Ram's world, Tungsten refers instead to the darker, low-luster chrome trim found on the pickup in a number of places. Start with one Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 Limited model, and add new Ram lettering on the grille, accent pieces and badges all in Tungsten chrome. The bumpers, mirrors, door handles and running boards are all body color, while the wheels are Satin Gray. The headlamps have a black bezel surround and a sport hood gets added to 1500 models only.

Inside, the Tungsten becomes the most luxurious pickup on the market, and the first to feature a suede headliner. Interior colors are limited to Light Greystone for the headliner and a combination of Natura Plus Frost and Indigo leather surfaces. Premium leather goes on the seats, the dashboard, steering wheel, center armrest and doors, while real wood adorns the dash, doors and steering wheel. Other interior pieces get slightly different textured looks as well, with many of the interior plastic trim pieces now getting a brushed-on painted look that really classes the cabin up. The floormats are two-piece affairs with rubber base mats that have Indigo and Frost snap-out carpets affixed, so you can leave them in for nice weather and remove the light-colored carpets during the slushy winters.

The Limited Tungsten Edition comes well equipped with standard air suspension (on the 1500 only), navigation, remote start, a backup camera, adjustable pedals, a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, the RamBox storage system (heavy-duty 6-foot, 4-inch bed only) and the new 8.4-inch Uconnect multimedia system that's been updated for 2018 to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Given the seat pattern and comfort, and the plushness of the cabin's headliner, the interior looks seriously posh but not gaudy in the "cowboy-kitschy" way some high-end luxury trucks do (we're looking at you Ford).

Pricing will be released toward the truck's on-sale date in the fall, but Ram says that the 1500 will start at $56,515 including destination fee. The Limited Tungsten Edition will be offered on crew- and Mega-Cab configurations with short or long wheelbases in two- or four-wheel drive with single or dual rear wheels.

Personally, I like the cowboy look. I like the Longhorn and King Ranch.
I liked how Silverado's looked inside back in the '70's and '80's but GM forgot how to build nice looking trucks since then.

Nice truck but other than interior color choice, is it really any different than the Longhorn. The center dash is approaching the dizzying complexity of the Fords, too many buttons and knobs. You want luxury, get yourself a Silverado High Country or Sierra Denali.

Beautiful truck, nice work Ram, GM will try to copy this in a few years as they always do since their current interiors get beat up badly by customers and bloggers alike.

Beautiful truck but they MUST lose that dumb dial shifter. Mercedes and BMW have a much more user friendly approach that RAM can and should copy.

Even prefer the GM column shifter over this dial shifter.

What the hell are Ram and Ford doing with the fronts of their trucks!? They look worse than they ever have.

I've had a Ram twice now as a rental in the States. Had a new aluminium F-150. I didn't like it, neither did my guys, so I swapped it for a Hemi Ram.

The Ram's interior will do better than the new F-150 in providing a more prestigious feel and look. So, I think this is good move on Ram's part.

This might help Ram keep up with the Silverado in numbers. But, when you count GMC, Chev, together they are the largest truck makers. Many forget about the midsizers and Chev's and GMC's SUVs, like the Tahoe/Suburban and the GMC brothers.

Nice truck but not my thing

Headliner really? We went over this already on TFL. The headliner and floor mats and leather are nice but is that all there is to luxury?

Where are the massaging seats?
Its still got the flip up tow mirrors?
Pano sunroof?
360 degree cam?
Flat floor floor supercrew?
Turbo gas?
No power running boards?
Adaptive steering?
Trailer status module?
Tailgate step?
And so on?

Really, an upgrade in materials doesn't make it the most luxurious pickup.

I don't recall anyone asking for a suede headliner.

You San Francisco boys can take the posh look Ram. It's better than the African Tribal Art that they did in the past.

But if I was buying a luxury pickup today it would be a 2018 King Ranch 6.5" bed SuperCrew, 3.5 EB with 10 speed, massaging seats, B&O stereo, 360 degree cam, adaptive cruise, and a suite of safety features.

Ram has a long way to building the most luxurious. Headliners, painted over emblems, and more leather aint going to cut it.

It's funny to hear all the Ford fans claim it's not lux enough unless it has all the Ford options. This truck is the oldest out there. Just give it a few years until the completely new truck comes out. Then it will have all the options. Remember to leave room for the aftermarket guys!

Not saying its not luxury enough. Just calling out Ram's B S on it being the most luxurious truck on the market because its got a new headliner and floor mats. smh.

If your taller than 5'10" you can't fit in the dam thing because they made the center console to WIDE! These engineers today for the big three are little Guys. Hence the interiors are getting smaller and smaller!

These would be much nicer looking trucks if they didn't plaster it with RAM on the front and back. Can't wait for them to get rid of that grill style.

No thanks. While Ford is perfecting their ingenious designs, Fiat and the GEM twins are saving babies with cheese-hog special edition paint and graphics models.

To tell the truth, I'm not impressed. My dogs with their muddy feet ride around in my truck (never in the bed),there's nose marks on the windows. I think most of us are like that. Who wants a fancy piece of crap that your dog can't ride around in?

TOM, if its the right material the leather easy to clean and wont rip easy like the GM leather, one thing I hate about the wifes camaro, the leather is crap and stitches come apart, no issues with my goldens in my F250 and the leather is great. I think Ram uses pretty good materials

When you put lipstick on a pig...it's still a pig. On top of that $57000 for a half ton truck...that's just stupid...and you can't fix stupid

If you cut a little section from the top of the R, then you could be driving a HAM

Nice truck, Ram and GM build some top notch stuff. Can't say the same for Ford, just a bunch of keep hard plastic even on their $80.000.00 plus dollar trucks. Guess that's why Ford dumps them on fleets and isn't making any profits. Cheap junk keeps getting recalled, and sold off at the lowest bidders.

HAHAHA
Bit overpriced,yes!

The paint looks like bed liner! Other than that, it's a very nice looking truck!

Looks like the future second best selling truck brand in the US.

I'm 6'2" and fir not problem with room to spare , not sure about what your talking about.

@Ron D, I am 6'8" and I have a Ram which I love. I do agree it is a little tighter then the Ford or Chevy, the console could be a bit narrower and I would like to see some extra seat travel. Ram has 41" of front leg room. I think Chevy is like 45" and Ford 44".

Ford will never have the ride and control this Ram delivers. Ford still rides on a hundred year old suspension design. Cheap and easy. This truck doesn't have to sale you V8 noises through the stereo. The V8 is real.

Ford needs to upgrade to a system like this,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kswau1mGBE8

Nice but miles behind Ford w/options & goodies. Also that back seat is still to tight for my needs....

Nice truck but not for me. Not putting my kids and 2 labs in the back seat of that, or my muddy clothes, boots in the front seat.
Still, it's cool, just not what I want.

These would be much nicer looking trucks if they didn't plaster it with RAM on the front and back.

papajim,
The dial shifters work okay. All you do is rotate them to select what drivetrain/gear selection you want. It takes no time to get used to them. I drove thousands of miles using one in a Hemi Ram. Not once did I have a problem. Nice truck.

If you have an issue there may be some kind of rehab activity to improve your hand/eye/brain co-ordination.

Oh, the dial shifter can't be dumb. You need a brain for that :-) The dial shifters are just a piece of plastic and they don't even have a silicon chip in them.

Kyle,
I'm 185cm tall, or about 6'1" and I had not one issue driving the Rams.

I do believe the offset of the steering wheel needs improving. But, after a while I suppose you get a little used to it.

Chevrolet builds a better way to see the USA,
By the sounds of your comment you want one of these fancy Rams and can't afford one. I'd say Ford and Chev/GMC will be a little more expensive for an equivalent if you look at Rams current pricing.

They may be overpriced for you. But, I'd say Ram has done significant research to reach the price point they have.

Don't forget you can wheel and deal the caryard, especially now that sales will be dropping.

bronz, silver, gold, aluminum, platinum, titanium, tungsten... stay tuned for adamantium, and vibranium...

Clint,
I thought you would of used Un-obtanium.

upscale, including fake, cheap looking hood scoop, not sure if truck looks more like a frog, or a snake

Grill is awful! Designer should be fired, not a bad looking truck otherwise. Still wouldn't buy one because if the crash test ratings

@Nitro

Could have to do with your wife. Is she a big girl? More than say 250 pounds? That could be the reason.

The interior looks very nice, wheels are awesome, good job Ram.

Grill needs addressing though.

The look of that grill caused me to vomit a little bit.
