Best-Selling Pickup Trucks: June 2017

2017-Super-Duty-F-350A_F-150 - Copy

Although the auto industry is not doing well — some experts are saying year-end sales totals will be significantly less than 17 million — the pickup truck arena isn't doing badly, at least when you compare 2017 sales with 2016 numbers. In fact, of the 11 mid-size and full-size pickups sold in the U.S., only three trucks sold fewer units this year than in June 2016.

Of note for June: The Chevrolet Silverado had a strong month, racking up more than 50,000 sales and breaking Ram's three-month record of outselling the full-size Silverado — and by a wide margin. Additionally, the mid-size Toyota Tacoma outsold the GMC Sierra's entire lineup (half-ton, three-quarter ton and one ton), giving the Toyota a strong push into the second half of the sales year, and possibly moving it into the No. 4 spot on our list before the end of the year.

Other notable sales news for June include Nissan's Titans (both the half-ton and XD models) selling quite well as more dealerships get smarter about selling this class-splitting two-model full-size lineup. Tacoma fans will want to know that the mid-sizer outsold the entire three-truck Nissan lineup (the Frontier, Titan and Titan XD), which totaled just 12,343 units in June.

There are several takeaways as we hit the halfway point of the year: First, no one is catching Ford (totaling GM's pickup sales to date, it's still more than 2,500 units behind the F-Series). Second, it looks like all the bluster Ram was threatening with a few good sales months will not get the truckmaker ahead of the Silverado by year end. And third, the second half of the year, which is typically the strongest period for pickup sales, is likely to get even more competitive as regional discount programs and national incentives get more aggressive.

same guys saying the same thing every month about the sales numbers.
you guys are B-O-R-I-N-G !

Can't you come up with something NEW to say instead of repeating the same comments over and over again?

Come on! Your hatred for Ford shows so what do you care if they are the leader in sales if you don't own a Ford?
Do you really care about me if I am making a big mistake if I go out and buy a new Ford truck?
Or is it you feel stupid that you made a mistake cause you didn't buy a Ford?

I could care less what truck you own.
The simple reason why Ford trucks are #1 in sales is because they are a better value at a lower price, even if you don't like the Ford you got to have rocks in your head to spend $10K more on a different brand of truck.
Personally I liked the Ram 1500 better than the F-150 I own but the similar Ram costs $10K MORE

GM closed today at 35.57. Their 12 month high was 38.55 and they closed on at 37.43 on February 27th. Posted by: Walt

@Walt

You cherry picked my comment. Did you look at the five year charts of the two firms? C'mon!

What is GM going to do when the Ranger hits the market again? Fall into oblivion!!!!!!!!

What is GM going to do when the Ranger hits the market again? Fall into oblivion!!!!!!!!

GM is profiting more because they build cheap quality parts internally and make the parts you see soft or shinny

Postman,
I really think you will find it hard for Ford to out sell GM for quite some time.

Remember all those SUV things that are sold by GM ie, Tahoe, Suburban, Escalade, etc. Then we have the GMC alternatives.

These are based on the same platform as the Silverado. So, the reality is if you start to add all the platform numbers you will see that GM is by far the largest mover of trucks of a similar platform in the US.

The F Series might sell more than say Silverado, but that is only a model within the platform.

Ford has a ways to go.

As well you can see the goings on at Ford with them dumping the head honcho. Why? Because the reality is Ford isn't producing what it should.

It's paying down borrowings, to pay for things like the design, development, retooling, etc to pump out aluminium trucks.

Ford should of made a much more gradual transition to aluminium.

The GT350R is slow. Watch the video of Randy Prost at the track with both cars. The Camaro wins head to head in performance data and at the track. The problem with the Camaro is it's too refined. I guess that's what you get with quality.

That old 1955 style pushrod Camaro engine needs a Supercharger with 15lbs of boost to keep up with the stock Fuel Injected GT350R. LOL

Did you see the drag race between the two. Yes, the GT350R is slow. The reviews even said it feels slow. LOL!

@blueman

"old 1955 style" pushrod engines don't work for you?

Wanna bet those naturally aspirated pushrod 2-valve motors in NASCAR Cup races are making damn near 1000 horsepower?

The numbers in the chart show Ram closed the gap even more on Silverado this past month. Look out Chevy! As for GM outselling Ford, that's true if you consider the mid-sized models. But if you compare apples to apples, meaning just the full-size and heavy-duty trucks, GM is a weak player. GM is losing ground, no way around it and a small 1.7% increase for Chevy and more than 8% down for GMC isn't helping. I wonder if the government will bail them out yet again one of these days.

You mean Ford, cause GM made 1 billion more then Ford last quarter. Last year GM crushed Ford in profits too.

"ford outsells the competition because the garbage they build never lasts very long. They have to be replaced every few years. Ever notice that you don't see very many old fords on the road"

This logic always baffles me....if I own a truck and it breaks down, is constantly in the shop costing me a fortune or doesn't "last very long", or is "garbage", I'm NOT going to buy the same brand of truck again! People continue to buy ford trucks because they are constantly improving and are the most innovative truck line out right now. They offer all engine lines on all of their truck trims, which range from your basic work truck to their top of the line luxury trims. I see older F150s all the time.

Next month, GM pulls ahead with the sales lead and doesn't look back.

Yet I know a dozen different guys that grew up in "Ford families" and will ONLY buy Ford vehicles, no matter how garbage they are. Half of them only buy Superduties and every one of them had HORRIBLE issues with their 6.0's and 6.4's. Yet these brainwashed guys swore they would never buy a reliable Cummins or Duramax, even though they've never owned one themselves. They just keep buying junk.

The other half have always driven F-150's. They just ignore the glaring issues with F-150's over the years. 2 or 3 of them have had spark plugs blow out of the heads, one had their oil pump fail and lock up the engine. Another had a 5.4 with faulty injectors that actually caused a bent rod when an injector leaked and hydrolocked the engine. Every one of the Ecoboost guys have had to either do timing chains or replace a bad turbo. Yet these guys will NEVER consider a different brand. They never owned a different brand of truck, they have just been taught all their lives that the other brands are junk.

Amazing what billions spent on advertising over the last 40 years can do to brainwash people.

I'm still waiting for your reply regarding V8 engines with 2 valve heads and pushrods. Tears?

Tears reminds me of the Ford shareholders whose stock has lost 2 bucks per share in the last 2 years.

Doesn't change the fact that the Ford lost at the drag strip and the road course. I prefer winning in the ZL1. LOL!

Ford clowns are as brain dead as the last 5 people that still believe everything CNN says hahaha! Brainwashed fools is all they amount to.

An excerpt from the link you posted:

"Even a cursory glance at the speed trace (above) should leave you wondering, “How the heck does the GT350R wind up only 70 feet behind the ZL1 at the checkered flag?”

Only 70 feet behind, LOL. That means after 10 laps your 700 feet behind if you haven't dropped out due to overheating the brakes. LOL! Hope you still feel proud of your mustang, especially when a ZL1 pulls up beside you. LOL!

Why does your big block Chevy 6.2L pushrod engine need a Supercharger with 15lbs of boost to compete with a Mustang with a 5.2L non blower/turbo car?
No wonder Chevy stop making the Camaro's for 8 years. LOL

I guess you can say the Mustang is competing even thought it losses at every measurable performance test. LOL!

Ford #1 Year to Date!
General Malaise #2 Year to date!!!
Thats the bottom line.

I can see why Chevy sales are down. I was in a Silverado LTZ2 trimmed truck and it was totally unimpressive. I was very disappointed. Both Ram and Ford higher end trims kill it. The Titan XD also had a nicer interior.

The GT350R isn't meant to be a drag racer. Oh and this is what MotorTrend had to say when comparing the Mustang to the Camaro:

"The thing is, when you get these two studs on a winding canyon road, the Shelby is the car you want to be driving. That steering simply comes alive. The GT350R sports one of the best-feeling front ends I’ve had the privilege of experiencing. It’s simply excellent. This Shelby’s shifter shifts better, the engine feels better (who wouldn’t take an 8,250-rpm redline over a 6,500-rpm limit?), the brake pedal feels better, and the car is simply sportier in every way. The R’s just more fun to drive. Again, I’m not sure how Ford Performance did it, but I think there’s a layer of pixie dust baked into the GT350R. I might call it a thing divine."

Looks like the big barfoon from Oz is back.

PUTC must have lifted his ban.

General Motors # 1 year to date.
Fecal Matter Company # 2 year to date

GM made a billion more than Fecal last quarter. Fecal wishes they were making these profits. Your Fecal-$1.50 and MISSstang girl vehicles ain't helping one bit their bottom line. Put this on your ignorant pipe and smoke it as hard as you can.

AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE!!! FECAL FEMALE FANS!

Why does your big block Chevy 6.2L pushrod engine need a Supercharger with 15lbs of boost to compete with a Mustang with a 5.2L non blower/turbo car?

Wow you really are DUMB. First off, the 6.2L pushrod V8 is a small-block V8. In fact, it is physically smaller than the Coyote 5.0 and Voodoo 5.2. They all weigh roughly the same too.

You never did address the point that was made earlier about the $44k Camaro SS 1LE with a mere 455HP matching the $65k, 526HP GT350R's lap time around Willow Springs. That despite the GT350R being a track-oriented car with exotic carbon fiber wheels, a stripped down interior, magnetic dampening shocks borrowed from GM, and an engine with double the number of intake and exhaust valves and 4 times as many cams.

How pathetic is that? And while you whine like a little child about the ZL1's supercharger, I have no doubt you defended the last decade of supercharged Mustangs.... The 03-04 Termi's, the GT500, GT500KR, GT350, etc etc etc. The only way Ford could match the little LS1/LS2/LS3 was by slapping a big blower on those unreliable dogsh!t 5.4's and 4.6's. Now your beloved GT350R gets matched by a Camaro SS selling for $20k less and BLOWN AWAY by the ZL1 and ZL1 1LE, suddenly superchargers are off limits LOL. Haha I can't wait for the excuses when the Z/28 takes a dump on whatever garbage Ford comes up with for the GT500.

Nikki is whackkkkkkk and so is GM.

@ Brick

Wow you really are DUMB as a Brick.

2016 Best Driver’s Car

GT350R—is as good to drive as a Porsche GT3. It is a pure and totally wonderful driver’s car. In fact, last year at our 2016 Best Driver’s Car, a Shelby R finished in second place behind the winning McLaren 570S. More impressively, we judged the GT350R better to drive than the Porsche 911 Carrera S, Camaro SS 1LE, Dodge Viper ACR, AMG GT S, Audi R8 V10 Plus, and Acura NSX, among others. Those are serious cars, some of which are outright supercars, yet our judges determined the bright yellow Mustang with the loud exhaust superior. It’s that great.

Haha so Bluegirl has nothing in response and knows nothing about the cars he is strongly opinionated about. He is a failure, just like his Ford's.

@ Blueman: you're proud of the Mustang being judged into second place.

The Camaro actually beat the following at the track:

Excerpt from your link:

"The supercharged Chevy (with the six-speed manual) beat the Corvette Grand Sport, AMG GT S, 911 Carrera S (991.2), 911 Turbo S, 991 GT3, and McLaren 570S. To be fair, the 570S was a prototype. But still, damn! "

To be fair, the Mustang was 0.1 seconds quicker in the figure 8 test. Taking that into consideration along with all the judging commentary, suddenly the GT350R sounds more like a figure skating contestant. HAHAHA!!!

Great job Ford, I see the typical Gm fan boys trying to defend and come up with other math problems to try to mask the fact that GM is on the downslope.....

GM should be making more money than Ford. When GM went bankrupt, most of their debt was erased. Ford continues to have the legacy debt because they did not go bankrupt and continue to service that debt. AND before you spout off "yeah, but Ford took money too", it was NOT the same. You and I got screwed (taxpayers) because the old GM and Chrysler did NOT pay back all the money the Govt paid them - research and read the CBO report to Congress on the "Bailout". Mind you I understand the devesation it would have caused if GM and Chrysler folded, but don't assume current GM is such a money making superstar. The playing field hasn't been level since the bankruptcy. Fleet sales have little to do with it. Finance is not so black and white.

@GMSRGREAT

A $65,000 Mustang coming 2nd overall to a $180,000 McLaren 570S. WOW. For about $10K more you could add a supercharger to GT350 and make about 750/800hp.

I think the Camaro came in next to last with a supercharger? LOL

The Titan is highly rated?

Well, it sure isn't due to the non XD Titans low payload.
Or the XD's low payload (compared to 2500 and F-250s.)

I think I have seen trucks with 5 foot beds overseas have more payload, of course, nobody runs those to the max for the sake of testing anyway. So they just blow smoke.

I thought they would learn from Rams low 1500 payloads, guess not.

It sure isn't the nicely designed front end on Titans, because there is no such thing; my gosh, those big huge ugly front ends!

Posted by: Blueman | Jul 5, 2017 9:32:36 AM

So now you're admitting that the GT350R needs a Supercharger to win. Winning is what it's all about that's what the ZL1 does, yes and it beat the 570S. Reread your link without the blueoval glasses and sipping on the blue coolaid.

I always wanted to know who sells the most PICKUP TRUCKS, you know trucks that come from the factory with an actual bed.

Awesome month for GM. More GM trucks sold in June than the entire F-sister line-up.

try relaxing a little.

Deep breaths. Counseling. Sometimes we just need to have someone pay a little attention to what we say.

A year from now none of this will make any difference.
