New Chevrolet Silverado Ads Aim to Ruffle Ford's Feathers

12-2016-Chevrolet-Silverado-001[2]Full II

A new set of Chevrolet commercials is out and if you thought the last wave of Silverado steel bed ads were a direct attack on the top-selling aluminum Ford F-150, you haven't seen anything yet. The newest advertisements (see videos below) from Chevy target new-truck buyers who might be thinking about purchasing a new Ford half ton or Super Duty.

Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

Does chevy really believe these types of ads are effective? Their marketing team is pathetic. Gmc marketing is much better. One thing is for sure. You aren't going to win over any ford guys with these ads.

Samsung cuts on apple
GM cuts on Ford.
Envy

The headline says it all. Aims to ruffle fords feathers. You don't win somebody over by ruffling their feathers or putting them down with a pathetic video. You win somebody over by making them feel good. The GMC like a pro ads make you feel good. The chevy ads make chevy people look like jerks.

lol the ford isnt a diesel

As a Chevy guy, I hate to see these. It's embarrassing to see these 'double talk' ads and they remind me of the typical used car salesman.

GM needs to fire the entire marketing department..
These videos are useless.. I'm a GM guy and wouldn't make my decision based off any of these...

You mean like when Ford use to have the ads with the old guy dumping his coffee on a rock back in the 90's as a swipe at the "like a rock" campaign?

These two have been swinging at each other for years.

The only people that take offense to it are fan boys.

With that in mind, I do not care for the Chevy ads. Talk more about the features that make your truck superior. These ads are hard to watch.

I personally don't like this kind of advertising.

But ................ particularly in the US with many vehicle adverts making claims of "Best in Class" and other nonsense pushes the limits.

Look at political ads? They are not much chop either.

Maybe GM should try and sell the truck on its virtues without spanking itself on its best in class qualities and the degradation of Ford pickups.

I'm a Ram guy, and I surely hope that the Ram folks don't try this type of put-down advertising. Ethically, you're supposed to talk about what's good about your product, and leave the competition out of it.

Makes me want to go out and buy a Ford just to spite GM. I'm sure that Ford would make good addition to me mini-fleet! (Ford does make a good truck, after all, but I'm not crazy about the aluminum and lack of manual transmission.)

=====================

No need to worry about Ford's dominance with these commercials. I think they will actually increase sales for Ford.

The best approach is to just show what it is that you do best and forget all others.

But I guess one way to hide the shortcomings is to try to find fault in others (as Chevy has been doing in recent years).

I just want to echo a lot of other themes. Chevy should talk about the positive aspects of their trucks. These ads are juevenile in there approach. Stop complaining and putting the competition down. You need to sell a product with positivity and talk about your items qualities.

Wow, very effective ads, love'em. Based on the commenting, the feathers have been ruffled. LOL. Great drag race, the FORD jumped the start twice and still loss.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA whatajoke, gmsajoke

The parodies on YouTube on these gm commercials are hilarious. Gm needs a new marketing department.

I remember a few years back when Chevy (Howie Long) was poking fun at the little "man step" (Ford) and heated steering wheel (Dodge).

Now Chevy has those similar features. And I know Chevy guys that really like them.

Ggg

It's difficult for FORD and RAM to find shortcomings with GM. Like what are they gonna say, we come second or third to GM. LOL. FORD hides it's shortcomings within their marketing department. Unfortunately for RAM, it's all out there.

It's Chevy only (not GM)

And let's be honest...we're really talking FULL SIZE trucks only. Sales figures show what people are buying more often (Ford) and what people seem to be buying less of (Chevy Silverado). Not to mention Ram catching up to Chevy in sales with a very old platform.

But you keep drinkin your look-aid kiddo!

Only downsides I see with the GM trucks (half ton) are Chevy-shake and the lack of a larger fuel tank option. I considered a newer GM truck but all the CC/SB come with a dinky ~26 gallon tank.... And it's nearly impossible to find a 6.2 GM truck, all the dealers keep in stock are weak 5.3s.

I ended up going with 16 Tundra Platinum (love my 38 gallon tank and the reliable 5.7 V8).

the 2017 Duramax/Allison combo is great though, I love mine

This is soooo funny, why do they need to go after Ford? Oh thats right, they are not the leader. Ford wont do it, but all they need to do is have a commercial witht he bent bed frame during payload testing, or the shaky motor and broke spark plugs, but people are smart, they know who the leader is... Nice try GM, now having to try to find a place in the market.

@NGOM, good point, they are like gms/pap/johny/sierra on here, they bash everyone, and when they talk about what GM has, Ford HAD, so nothing new. Bringing Howie back was an ultra bad move, they failed before and they will fail again.

The bumper corner steps while not a bad idea aren't anywhere near as good as the tailgate step... Actually are only slightly better than the drop in the "step" bumper itself.

Guess chevy wont be using their newly patented version of a tailgate step in the near future... O well when youre so far behind its easy to take pot shots than innovate and fix.

By "Chevy's" standard of bed material comparison, a composit/plastic bed is superior to steel as it resists impacts better and this one should forgo chevy altogether and buy a Honda or Toy as per chevy's imaginary standard.

If your truck doesnt have a bedliner youre still living in the 70s or your truck is a show queen.

2nd place is always gunning for first. Often with poorly aimed misfires in this case. Keep trying chevy and don't worry if you fail AGAIN socialism will bail you out... again...

For all of you Ford fans so offended by GM's ad, two words.

Denis Leary

I'd rather see Howie Long on a skateboard than see Denis Leary in a Rolls Royce.

Mr Long is a pure All Pro Hall of Fame NFL Oakland Raiders Super Bowl winning stud.

Denis Leary is a funny guy sometimes.

What does Leary know about trucks. Would you ask his advice about which to buy?

WOW, Chevy got a hood scoop, Ford started using hood scoops back in 1955 with the Thunderbird. LOL

Who knew Ford owner's could be so impressed by a notch cut into a bumper?

GM's hood scoop helps makes power, that's the difference. Ford loses again. I would hate to be a Ford fan. Hey, you guys keep cheering them on, maybe someday they will win, maybe someday. LOL!

I'd rather hear Leary's voice saying something of substance than see Howie's stupid face yucking it up.

@papa, to contradict your self, what does Howie have to with trucks? You should ask yourself questions before writing and looking like you do not have a clue.

BTW, on our 2017 3500 dually Silverado at work, we had steel placed in the bed by a crane, when we took the steel out, the bed had 2 slits in it. I should post a video on youtube showing this, as actual real world steel bed (unprotected) but I wouldnt do that because any normal person would have a bed liner, moral of the story, those of us who are actual trucks users know and understand the real deal on trucks, and those buy the real trucks....FORD.

Dennis Leary sounds way more Educated and informative then the DOLT HOWIE LONG!! Bonehead!!! Too many hits to head.

papajim,
Why did you introduce an inflammatory statement?

Do you know what Dennis knows?

He might be a pickup guru. I don't know and I'm sure you don't know either.

Please, keep you comments pleasant as I would like to see PUTC become the best pickup truck site again, without the derogatory comments. They are unnecessary and are of no value to the discussion.

For years Chevy has used attack ads whenever they are behind. Remember Howie Long's snide remarks about the Ram heated steering wheel? Guess what, a couple of years later Chevy finally got that heated steering wheel. They have long used attack ads to cover for their deficiencies. They don't seem to realize attack ads say "we're behind but we want to try again to catch up." Keep it up, Chevy, it speaks well to your inferiority complex (well-earned, by the way.)

Spokesman :"This new truck has a corner step built right into the bumper"
"non actor": Super cool!!!!
"non actor": This put's my Ford truck to shame!!

Is this guy still driving a 1985 F-150???
LMFAO!! I guess that's why Chevy thinks sales are down? They didn't get the word out about the bumper steps!!!

I drove Chevies for years until I needed a new one in 2011. I was surprised of the lack of options on half tons. No 3.73 gears on most trim levels, no optional gas tank either. No 115 plug in the dash in 2011. I got everything I wanted on a Ram. I've had all of the big 3 trucks and really didn't have any problems with any of them, but I have to have the options I want and Chevy is the worst. Must spend $55,000 to get what I want. Ford is starting to do this too. Built a Ford Supercab with the 5.0 liter the other day and could only get 3.55 gears on my desired trim level.

For sure, they copied it from Ford. LOL

Apparently your not doing the fleet buying at your place of employment.

Care to Explain????

@nitro

Ask questions before writing? That would be great advice for you to follow.

re Howie.

Howie Long has a big family. Nice wife and kids---big kids. His sons play football in the NFL. They're very big.

You don't buy Honda Civics when you have a family that big. When you're hauling the kids and grandkids to church you grab the keys to the Suburban or the Sierra, not the Honda.

The GM HD trucks with the Duramax and Allison combo have always been class leading in performance. I'll never be in that market, but my guess is the IFS is a deal breaker for a lot of people.... Ironically GM has been copying any one and everyone lately, but they are sticking to their guns on that one.

Awful. Just awful advertising.

Commonwealth//McCann is the creator of this trash. GM deserves to be shamed for paying them for this garbage.

I like these commercials. It works for RAM very well.

YUP!, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vb9BrH3Tso

lol i think GM is a little mad that Ford is beating both their brands sales combined. With GM you can have power OR efficiency, but not both :)

Ever drive one?

Eco in Ecoboost only counts when you compare it to the Tritan modular V8s. Horrible gas mileage and before the 3 valve versions, gutless with horrible power curves. Right now the 6.2 and the Hemi can put down similar mileage to the 3.5.

But if you haven't driven more than one brand, how would you know?

I just mute most of the commercials unless it is a Farmers Insurance ad and those are creative and entertaining. How effective are any ads? Do agree about Denis Leary, Mike Rowe is a much better spokesperson. The Ford and Chevy ads along with fan boy comments are enough to make me buy another brand.

Then you are weakmindeded or not very well educated.

Bad commercials

@Tom--No the weak minded are those that keep buying the same thing and don't look at alternatives. One can get tired of political ads and truck ads that use the same message that our candidate or product is perfect and that the alternate candidate or competitors products is bad and evil. It is much easier to listen to propaganda and believe it than it is to use critical thinking. A weak mind is swayed by what others tell him or her what to do, what to buy, who to vote for. Maybe you are the one with a weak mind. "It is a terrible thing to lose ones mind" Dan Quayle.

I think all these Chevy ads, both the "real people, not actors" ads and the Howie Long ads are stupid. But I don't find them actually painful, which unfortunately is not the case with the Denis Leary Ford ads. Those should be enough to make people ashamed to be seen in a Ford truck.
