Our 2017 One-Ton Heavy-Duty Pickup Challenge is just around the corner. In it, we throw the all-new 2017 Ford Super Duty F-350 up against the winner of our previous one-ton Challenge, the 2017 GMC Sierra 3500. In the time since they last met, both trucks have received significant improvements. The Ford now has a new frame, chassis, body style and all-new interior while the powertrain remains the same. The GMC has the all-new turbo-diesel 6.6-liter Duramax and upgraded Allison 1000 transmission while the frame, chassis, body style and interior stay the same.

No changes were made to the 2017 Ram 3500, so it is not in this upcoming contest. However, we did have one for a portion of the test so we did some track testing it. More to come on that after the Challenge, which publishes Aug. 14.

Here's an up-close look at the first of our two competitors, the 2017 Ford Super Duty F-350 dually, seen here in Lariat trim.

The most handsome truck on the market.

You dumb douchebags! Throw the Ram into the mix. You guys still don't understand that 0-60 isn't the only measure of a trucks worth.

I kind of agree with Millhouse Nixon. If you want to have a bonafide comparison, you should include all players. Otherwise, the conjecture will be deafening post test.

@Millhouse,

Agreed, I've been saying this the past decade, in addition, it don't really matter who wins. This truck is overrefined.

But it will Sell!!

Wow, look at that interior compared to the old gm twins, just amazing how much further ahead Ford is.....

I agree, Ram should be here as well.

This is one good looking truck, don't care who you root for!

Yeah, come on PUTC! Put the Ram in there! Even on an old platform it competes very well!

Why are we wasting time with the second or third place contender.

I agree that the Ram should be included as well. I would also argue that the Ram top trims have the nicest interior in the segment, which to some people is more important than 1-2 second faster to 60 mph.

I wonder if it will look as nice finishing 2nd to the GM? In the latest FLT shootout GM beat the Ram and the Ford towing heavy up the Ike. Ram also has the most TQ of the 3. Fords HP/TQ didn't show up on the latest dyno test. Ram had the most TQ. Ford the most HP.

The dash in the Ford is just a clutter of buttons compared to the GM. Though I like the looks of the Ford from the side, they have to do something with the front end-way too busy looking, I think it takes away from the appearance, in my opinion.

Because GM carries a lot of water for the Demoquack party and they'd like to see their darling GMC poser truck in the test.

where's the fire extinguisher?

my biggest concern with ford products both new and old is the "dirty" installation of the powertrain. What that means in plain English is that they are not "field serviceable" Every vehicle has mechanical failures from time to time, but its the one that can be "patched up" with minimal down time that I favor the most

Nice truck another great product from Ford. Not like the uglie twins from Garbage Motors.

Predictions, Chevy wins most to all performance measures and Ford wins the comparison because it's 1 db quiter a 22 and 53 mph and GM's brake controller is on the left.

Front end is hideous!! I preferred the look of the 16 models better. They look very narrow coming at you down the road. My brother in law just bought one in exact color. Has a ton of power but it still doesn't match the Duramax!!

As for those commenting on interior. The GM interior is 4 years old now, but it still is a lot easier to operate/navigate than the cluster Ford has put in front of you!!

The Chevy will beat the Ford in performance categories like it did with the 250's comparison, but the Ford will somehow win comparison and the Ford fanboys will say its the best truck! GO FIGURE!

This is because only dumbfounded blind gmfanboiz care about 0-60 mph race, pathetic!!! Chevy can wins all those races, but people buy a more refined truck. F-SERIES!!!!

You can see the death wobble even in still pictures. Ford should steal Ram's superior front suspension design, just like they stole all kinds of other Ram ideas.

"The Ford dash is a clutter of buttons."
Translation = "Wow, the GMC has less feature content than the Ford."

"The Ford's front end is way too busy looking"
Translation = "I'm too overwhelmed by all the trim options because I am so accustomed to GMC offering fewer choices."

"The Ford looks narrow to me from the front."
Translation = "The Ford Super Duty stands 3" taller than my GMC."

@redbloodedxy

Huh? Please cite some specifics.

Bailout.

This truck had been ugly since 2008! Ford should get smart and stick the 2005-2007 grill back on, at least the Ford Super Poopie looked some what good then.

Noticed you said old GM, cause you know the current GM trucks interiors puts Ford's new interior to shame!

"Feature Content"
Translation= Ford can't sell their latest Supderduty trucks on their own merits as work trucks, so Ford has to resort to accessorizing it with over-priced gimmicks and half-baked features that require multiple dealer visits after they inevitably stop working.

Look at the front end, looks like a bunch of blocks and shapes put together,( I see some squares, rectangles, and C's) add a blue egg and call it a ford

Chevy should be in th 23,000lbs class test.
Ram and Ford in the 30,000lbs class test

Winner, winner, chicken dinner...generic motors sucks

The part of this trucks styling is the square wheel well flares.

The best part

Rammins: Oh please--you've got to be kidding me. Ford kills it in work truck sales based on merit or otherwise.

I'll be glad to see the test maybe it'll stop all this childish behavior. I'm very happy with my 17 model. My 11 model I put 200,000 miles on it no problems and pulled my D5G-LGP Cat Dozer over 60,000 of those miles. Which by the way made my total weight I was pulling Over 31,000lbs. I have Dodge and Chevy work truck as well. I'm sorrry I like the Ford the best. Less problems with the superdutys.

I believe the loans that FORD is still required to pay back to the Government was arranged during George Bush presidency.
