2017 GMC Sierra 3500: Photo Gallery

The 2017 GMC Sierra 3500 Denali 4x4 dually that is part of our upcoming 2017 One-Ton Heavy-Duty Pickup Challenge offered a clean look and some impressive empty and loaded driving dynamics, but the most impressive piece of technology stays completely invisible to the driver. As we talk about in the Challenge, the amount of thrust and exhaust braking offered by this new variable-vein turbo inside the all-new Duramax is one of the most impressive upgrades we've seen on a new heavy-duty pickup in a long time.

Here's a closer look at the second of our two challengers; look for the 2017 One-Ton Challenge to publish Aug. 14. To see photos of the other challenger, the 2017 Ford Super Duty F-350, click here.

108 degrees in what looks like about 11 AM in Arizona?
Hope they remembered the Gatorade!

A work of art!

Lariat F350 vs 3500HD Denali? Well this is a clear win for GMC. Last test the GMC got knocked for not having it's top trim level.

That's GMC's top of the line trim? Not impressed. No interior panache, ugly dash, side mirror designs are homely and body colored bumpers look cheap. Plus, GMC needs to do something with their taillights--they look ancient and too close to a basic Chevy lamp.

Powertrain compares well to Ford. The DMax is a smooth/powerful runner for sure.

Looking at the truck's bones compared to the Super Duty--the cab on the GMC is smaller with less head and shoulder room. The pickup box volume is less than the Ford and the tail gate is 2 inches narrower. And--it has a car suspension up front that won't handle front end payload like the live axle trucks.

GM trucks should be in the testing for the 23,000 lbs class.
Ford and Ram should be in the 30,000lbs class by themselves.

Well, except the GMs seem to handle the 23,000 lbs better than the Ford or the Ram.

That's a good looking truck as well!
As far as looks, you got the two best looking trucks out there!
Wait,
That Ram 3500 Longhorn is a good looking truck!

Oh yeah, this is a partial test. Great job Mark!

Purposeful, functional and powerful. You're looking at the winner, GMC.

Square and hideous......yikes

Too funny. You have to be blind to think this is art. Easily the worst looking HD. smh.

Why GM doesn't have E-Coated frames is inexplicable.

Because post-bailout GM can do whatever they please. Keep paying your taxes.

The ugliest part is that the Duramax out pulled the trucks that are supposed to be rated for 30k.

This truck's looks says "move over or get run over". I guess that's is part of the reason why Ford always loses in a head to head match up with the GMC Denali.

The GMC is style where as the Superdooty looks like it was made from Lego or old plastic milk crates.

@ ALL YOU FORD FANBOYS

Can we please move on from the bailout comments. You Ford guys are so thick headed!!! FORD TOOK MONEY TOO!!! Stop being 3rd graders!!

As for the trucks. I prefer the GMC because it is way easier to navigate than the junk cluster ford has put in front of you! Talk about hideous!! The front ends on the Fords are UGLY!!! As for performance. The Duramax will beat the Super Duty in performance comparisons, like it did with the 250's!! Like it did with the comparison in TFL also!!! Yet, it still doesn't click for you Ford fan-boys. You guys will just say..."Stupid wheel wells"
Get over that one to!! Should us GM or Dodge guys say stupid front door windows that are cut out in the front instead of going straight across!! Ugly design!!!!!

TNTGMC go back to your job mowing lawns at the trailer park. Genius.

Yeah get back to mowing the grass in the trailer park. Redbloodedxy's lawn is getting so tall it's growing up into the broke down Fords in his yard.

Square and hideous......yikes

hahahaha

@ redbloodedxy

I have done nothing to you and don't know you (or care to) so keep your 2nd grade education comments to yourself!! I won't go into a commenting war with you either, because by the posts you submit on this website, your higher order thinking process is lacking a bit!! Better work on it!

BTW, a few post back you called me a "real genius"!! Thank you, for that compliment! I just can't say that about you though! Sorry man or woman???!

Have a great day

@ redbloodedxy

Your 2nd grade comments and low IQ definitely indicate you drive a Ford! I'm sorry!!
BTW. Thanks for calling me a Genius!!! I appreciate the compliment!
Can't say that about you though..DARN IT!

Another good article on how well the new Duramax is doing!

" Sqaure and hideous" yikes buddy you better take another look at the super duty... talk about Sqaure... or wait maybe that's rectangular and hideous

not much to look at

Nice to see GM at least get's it when it comes to instrument panel gauges. A nice analog oil pressure gauge complete with numbers.

I don't get why Ford is trying to hide the oil pressure from everyone. They either bury it in some menu on the lcd display or don't display it at all.

Great Point!!

I like having the transmission temp and oil pressure gauges as well.

Mark likes to nit-pick about GM not showing him which gear it's actually in.

I would think he should be busting Ford's chops on important info like the oil pressure gauge.

GMC makes the best looking truck in the HD class in my opinion. I like all 3 but the GMC just looks awesome. Not sure who will win the entire shootout, but if they only consider the important things for having a good tow vehicle and reliable, the Duramax will edge out over the Ford. Both are winners in my book. Just need a lot of money to throw away if buying a brand new one.
