Best-Selling Pickup Trucks: July 2017
With the release of July automotive sales numbers, many major media outlets are predicting doom and gloom. What they fail to mention is how well larger SUVs and pickup trucks are selling. And that's good for automakers because that's where most of their high profit margins exist. Lower fuel prices, an economy that seems to be plugging along, and competitive local and national vehicle discount programs seem to be helping some mid- and full-size pickup sales. Expect a few more big sales promotions before the summer is out.
Because sales have slowed for the summer months, most pickup truck makers would be happy with flat results. The exception is Ford: F-Series July 2017 numbers beat July 2016 numbers by several thousand, while the Chevrolet Silverado took a pretty good hit. We should note that GM continues to cut its fleet sales percentages, which is an easy way for some manufacturers to prop up numbers artificially. Still, GM must be careful about the number of days Silverados are sitting on dealer lots and a double-digit month-over-month sales drop.
In the mid-size segment, the Toyota Tacoma continues to crush monthly sales; it's on track to have a record year and shrink the gap for the coveted No. 4 spot on our sales chart. Likewise, the Chevy Colorado had a monster month selling more than 11,000 units, more this month than the full-size Toyota Tundra. Finally, even though GMC Canyon sales are down, it outsold the slumping Honda Ridgeline.
Look for our July 2017 Sales Breakdown report next week for a closer look at how the mid-size, full-size and pickup manufacturers compare.

LOVE
FORD!
Have a 2017 F150 rental right now. Rentals lots are full of them
Tacoma still killing the ugly GM twins.
Funny to see the Ridgeline do so poorly compared to a year ago. I guess one year later the market is drying up for this truck.
Colorado what?
Tacoma is still the segment leader for a reason!
The fact is F-Series sales are all rentals.

Because Toyota doesn't have a good full-size?
Everyone is buying up new Fords before the 2018 model comes out with the government mandated stop start on every truck .
Colorado what?
Posted by: oxi | Aug 1, 2017 12:16:14 PM
Colorado +21%.
Colorado and Canyon are right up there with the Taco sales. So 3,000 people mainly in California probably bought more Tacos than GM midsizers. Does what Cali buys mean Tacos are better? California also voted for Hillary.
Toy doesn't have a good full-size so anyone who has to have a Toy has to buy a Taco. Nobody can lead in 2 segments except maybe Ford in 2004.
When Toyota starts getting competitive and selling A LOT more Tundras and leads in Tacos let me know.
Wow, good news for Ford makes people angry.
I heard the high strength military grade rust free aluminum is a major selling point for Ford trucks now. Sorry GM has to keep defending the GM twins by attacking Ford and missed the boat on this.
Great Job Ford, again you continue to shun the GM fans and force them to make up stories and defend the falling GM sales. GM certainly missed the mark on their trucks failure to deliver to the customer needs, not to mention their failed marketing attempts. Ford King, and continues to pull away....

You have no idea, they don't even sleep good at night.
Awesome month for GM. More GM trucks sold in July than the entire F-sister line-up.

I know you'll sleep a little less comfortable tonight knowing that once again GM sold more trucks than Ford in July.
Wow good news for GM makes Fecal Matter Cumpany people very hostile.
Ford #1, almost 500,000 HD trucks sold, Chevy #2, a little over 300,000 HD trucks sold.
Same old story, month after month, year after year, decade after decade, century after century. LOL
l
It's funny...
GM fans say their low sales are bc they cut fleet. And Ford high sales are bc they sell a lot of fleet
Ford fans say their high sales are bc GM trucks are not AL and "military grade." And it's ok to have higher sales Even if they're fleet.
I see one commonality here: Ford has a lot of fleet sales. Can this website do a comparison analysis on fleet sales between the Big 3?? Retail sales should give everyone here a good idea of how many customers (not companies) are supporting each brand. Fleet customers usually buy in bulk for lesser prices which means less profit for the manufacturers.
If it weren't for fleet sales and rentals, Ford would be in the dumps. They give those things away in fleet sales and then they boast.
I think we can all appreciate that GM ought not pile on the incentives or dump into rental fleets, but continuing to point to these things when the sales are so weak is starting to wear thin - especially when low gas prices should be giving tailwind to GM's Silverado sales.
At some point, people have to be willing to buy your product.
Congrats to all. Ram and GM are down due to anticipation of the new trucks for both . Ford is doing well with thier brand new 2017 Superduty, a very nice truck in my opinion. I see lots of the new 2017 GM Duramax HD trucks running around as well, rightly so , it is a beast for towing and proven reliable, has a great reputation here in Canada, but this survey in U.S only. Too bad because almost everyone up here drives a truck, i think Ram sells more than Ford here, correct me if i am wrong on that. Nice to see Toyota is selling well with the mid-size , the Tundra is never going to sell as well as the big 3 but those that drive one are very pleased. The Mid size GM trucks are doing OK , i think numbers will rise a bit more now that the ZR2 is becoming available. All in all trucks are definitely a popular choice still in North America.
Ford might want to rethink about bringing back the ranger... it would suck to spend lots of $$$$$$$ only to fail.

Well-said.
$12,500 off Silverados in many areas still cannot help the Silvy.

With the exception of the '61-'63 unibody F-100 disaster, Ford fails at NOTHING.
How about another special edition, GM? That ought to do the trick.
Right now GM has nothing that the other two don’t have. Ford has safety and towing electronics and rust free military grade aguminum bodies that set them apart. Ram offers a diesel again and air ride suspension, RamBox, and good looks along with competitive pricing.
GM's got the vibration issues that have got to be hurting sales. Follow that up with cabin pressure issues and the loudest suspension squeaking I have ever heard on a newer vehicle that GM has not fully resolved yet, off center steering wheels with garbage interiors and square wheel wells and a lackluster 5.3, and you have yourself a disaster.
I hope they do better next time but time will tell.
Down 15 and 11 % is terrible for GM. I’m a little surprised to see RAM holding steady with a new truck on the horizon. I have to admit, Ford is still killing it! It’ll be real real interesting to see how this market gets shook up with the all new 2019 RAM.
ALL GUTS
ALL GLORY
ALL BEST IN CLASS
2019 RAM!!!

GM sold the most trucks in July.
GM has sold over 533,000 trucks for the year
EVERYBODY ELSE sold less trucks, including F-Series at just over 499,000.
Ford sells a lot of trucks but not as many as GM.
Any questions?
There are those who still believe the world is flat and Ford sells the most trucks. However, an education would correct those misconceptions.
Try again. For the year I'm getting GM up only by 7,800 units. That's all of GM's trucks lines vs Ford's 1 F-Series line. Ford beats Silverado, Sierra and Colorado combined. Adding Canyon puts GM on top but only by 7,800 units. Sorry you have to keep defending the GM twins.

Way to go GM, #1 as always.
Ford was giving away $13,000.00 rebates and still came in second.

McDonalds sells more hamburgers, are they the best burgers, not!
Sir, would you like a spare timing chain and guides to go with your eco-boost. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SIERRA: There is no GM truck brand that has sold over 533,000 units.
That's a lie. Ford F-series is leading in sales for a brand of trucks.
I wouldn't mention "education" in any future comments until you obtain one.

Q: Would you like a Shake for your Silverado?
A: No thanks, it came with one stock from the Factory.
:D
Can anyone tell me why GMC exists? What purpose does it serve? Why not roll everything into one, ESPECIALLY MARKETING, and just offer the GMC styling as a "GMC" package.
The math really isn't that difficult to do. Do they think that there are actually buyers who would refuse to buy a Chevy that they can trick into buying a GMC? Just offer the same two grille designs as Chevy's and be done with it!

That's sure is a lot of death wobbles.
I just returned from a wonderful month vacation in the US that took me into 3 different states & managed to rent 3 different trucks to compare.
I also got bombarded by the many GOVT motor ads on the radio/tele with the biggest discounts on the hood ($12 000?!) so I really thought they will finally turn their sliding sales for month of July. But instead, they had biggest -minuses in sales...LOL!!!.
So what gives johnny dumb dumb/GMSUCKS, Sierra, old papa jimbo & the rest of the shaky GOVT motor fangirls!!??
We all know the answer & possibly their anti-Ford ads backfired once again...LOL. Hey, keep following the leader for 41 yrs & counting....HAHAHAHA!!!!!
Same old menstrual cycle month after month.
@ 2.7 EcoBoostRoost
I see a HELL of a lot more Chevy's on the road than any worthless/gutless Ford's.
All this hoopla about who sells more is ridiculous! Ford sells a Sh@t ton more fleet trucks, that's why they lead.....who cares good for them. It doesn't mean there better by any means. There ecoboost's are JUNK!!! You Ford guys know it but are to ashamed to admit it! There whole market sell back in 2011 was V8 power with V6 economy. Well it doesn't get any economy what so ever!!! They get TERRIBLE gas mileage when pulling. I know bc 5 people in my family own them and can't stand the fact they get crappy mileage! As for highway driving NONE of them can crack 18 miles to the gallon and that is at 65 MPH!! And no they don't drive like idiots either!!
And just a note: to compare a TWIN turbo V6 to a pushrod V8 is comparing apples to oranges. Its not logical. Comparing the 5.0 to the 5.3 or 5.7 and 6.2 to a 6.2 or 6.4 is evenly matched. Let me slap a supercharger on a 5.3, 5.7L Hemi, or 6.2L LT1 and see where your JUNK 3.5L and 2.7L lawn mower engines will be at!!
They should get rid of them and stick money into the 5.0L and the 6.2L or supposedly an all new 7.0L.
Again FORD fan-boys are some of the most loyal customers...I will give you that, and we know why....because your IQ consistently drops the longer you're in your trucks! LAUGHABLE!!
TNTGMC--you sound like a real genius.
Ford all the way baby!!! And hey GARBAGE MOTORS FAN GIRLYS STOP CRYING!! GARBAGE MOTORS SUCKS PERIOD.
Great job GM, you sold the most trucks and made mountains of profits over Ford, while they keep trying to giving their junk Fords away trying to be #1. Ford better try harder at give away trucks next month HAHAHAHA!!!!!
