2011-2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, GMC Sierra 3500: Recall Alert

2015-Chevrolet-Silverado-3500

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 35,300 model-year 2011-15 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and GMC Sierra 3500 pickup trucks equipped with dual fuel tanks

The Problem: The low-fuel-level sensor in the front tank may stick, causing the rear tank to overfill the front tank. Excess pressure in the front tank may cause it to expand and contact the driveshaft, which could put a hole in the tank, potentially leaking fuel and causing a fire in the presence of an ignition source.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the front fuel tank and replace it if necessary, as well as replace the rear tank fuel pump or update the fuel-level sensor, for free.

What Owners Should Do: GM, parent company of Chevrolet and GMC, will begin notifying owners Dec. 18, with a follow-up notice in February 2018 when the remedy will be available. Owners can call Chevrolet at 800-222-1020, GMC at 800-462-8782, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.

Has a single report of this actually happening to a GM owner appeared?

Didn't know you could get 2 tanks on the non Cab and chasis. Would be handy for towing vacations.
I remember had a dual tank 1990 F150 and the same situation happened to me, the side tank started spewing gas out overflow, had to keep the rear tank empty until i finaly fixed it.

Not many chose the dual tank option on the 3500 GM, surprised everyone wouldn't want 2 tanks on an HD diesel.

Is this the gas or diesel version? Can't find any diesel dual tank option. Must be the 6.0L gas trucks.

They need to recall these again for being butt-ugly.

@ Redbloodedxy

That's your opinion! But a FACT is that it still outperforms your Super Duty!

Butt ugly

HAHAHAHA!!!...I wonder what lame defense the usual GOVT motor fangirls will come up with this time :-))

only 35,000, must be gas motor,

@ Lionel

Lay off the caps lock! Between you and Frank, I don't know who uses it more?

Intelligence doesn't run very deep in those 2 households. Maybe that is why you drive a Ford? Ha-ha!!

@TNTyrGMC; so the best defense you can do is personal attacks...lame, HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Free fuel pumps! Everybody gets a fuel pump!!!!!

@TNT. To be truthful the Superduty 6.2 out performs the 6.0 in the GM twins and the Duramax is only slightly better than the Powerstroke. But both are great trucks. These recall posts should be closed to comments. Never anything constructive or relative posted in these

@ Smokin

Gas goes to ford...by alittle...
Diesel goes to GM

Very true..i agree

It's hard not to comment when non intelligent fanboys comment on stupid stuff!! I agree..they should block it!

When ford has a recall......Dont we always see Lionel defending or using excuses?? Who knows I maybe wrong...but I would venture that everyone in here would agree between him or Frank they know little about trucks.

Ha! I don’t need to come on this site and bash your junk, you know why @TNTGMC? Because I really don’t give a $hit about you. I don’t need to post on this site to know about trucks. You’re the biggest lying girl here.

Have a good night puddin’

Between you and.....blah blah, you’re friggin girl. Keep your comments about me out of this, don’t give a $hit about you.

Still waiting.

Not a single report of harm or an accident caused by the fuel tank issue.

@frank

Puddin?

Seek medical attention. Some very good work is being done to help people with your condition

Oh the GM supporters..., How do you turn a GM recall into a bad thing for Ford? Deny and Deflect!

@ TNTyrGMC; you're sounding like yr president now, deny, deflect & resort to personal attacks when all fails - stick to the subject...I've driven trucks since 12 yrs old & probably owned more than you can ever dream off...so $&%k you, your president & whom ever voted him in...

Lionel, Your French Polynesian self does not understand American politics. So please stick to the topic and leave our President out of it. Thank you.

Pretty sure this recall is for diesel cab and chassis 3500HD's with the dual tanks. I don't believe you can get dual tanks on non C&C trucks.

At least GM is doing this one voluntarily. Hopefully they fix it right the first time. Dont wanna have to do a double recall on a single issue or send recall notices to people who were killed by the part... again... That was embarassing.

@Dave; maybe you're right but for those of us from afar that can only take from Fox & CNN, I guess somewhere in between lies the truth.
But then again, you need to wonder why the rest of the world are scratching their head & saying "how the hell did that happen!?"...

This won't affect profits. That's the positive thing about making a truck so ugly it doesn't sell.

Sorry Lionel, you are a disrespectful a-hole.

We expect your consideration even if it is not forthcoming. You fail.

@papajim; yeah I know, the truth hurts but hey someone has to say it...

@Lio

it is too bad that your effort to make a point falls short, because after reading your comment several times I still can't make heads/tails of it.

I'm making reference in my comment to Lionel about his disrespectful treatment of American citizens and our current president.

And your point is?

Too bad Ford did take same care and attention to resolving the FORD pinto fuel tank issues. Instead they choose to put a price on their owners heads and pay out after someone burnt to death or was severely disfigured.

Wow you really are a clueless, braindead Ford moron. Not only has Ford built up their legendary pedigree of killing their customers with known safety defects, they are DEAD LAST in voluntary recalls. Keep slobbin on Ford's knob loser

Kinda like GM covered up the ignition switch which it admitted had known was faulty and caused deaths. Both sad cases of corporate greed.

@papajim; so you believe we can't speak our minds now without getting targeted?...that's perfect, I guess it confirms you're a Putin fan too...

But to close off this silly argument & get back on subject (trucks) - my point was & with no disrespect to any US citizen; I'm simply pointing out what most US citizens and citizens of the free-world have on their minds. Some are may be afraid to speak out in fear of retaliation from idiots like you or worse still, loose their jobs.

Oh by the way, I'm a proud US citizen w/passport and still believe it's the greatest country on earth...it's just sad to see an idiot holding the most powerful position on earth is running his GOVT like a reality show....

@Lionel

I'm sure our president has been insulted by better men than you, but you insulted your fellow countrymen. For that you deserve scorn.
