2019 Ram 1500 Interior: Spied

I-j5q597b-X2 II

With the upcoming 2019 Ram 1500 due to come to market later in 2018, the truckmaker is employing a production strategy that it hopes will allow it to take over the No. 2 spot on our list of top-selling U.S. pickup trucks.

By using two plants to produce two different versions of the Ram 1500 — one all new in premium trim levels and the other the current-generation 1500 in several value-oriented packages — Ram just might be able to make some headway in sales.

In the meantime, our spy shooters are seeing different versions of the 2019 Ram 1500 (the last one with the RamBox) with its new interior along with a few new features. Here's what they sent us:

"This is the interior of the 2019 Ram 1500, caught virtually undisguised.

"The new Ram truck will get much of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' latest interior technology as it tries to get ahead of the updated Ford F-150 and upcoming replacements for the current GM twins [the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the GMC Sierra 1500]. The new Uconnect 4.0 multimedia system is likely present here, but with a taller, vertically arranged information/navigation screen found in other FCA products with physical buttons running along the sides and underneath.

"Other features we're hearing about include self-park assist, a lane-keeping assist system and other driver assistance technology, as well as a relocated integrated trailer brake controller.

"In addition to a key-activated automatic tailgate opener (press the icon on the key fob), the Ram 1500 will provide remote control over the access height when air suspension is selected, so passengers and cargo can be loaded more easily without having to start the truck first.

"Expect the 2019 Ram 1500 to be shown in January at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, with sales starting later that year."

Looking good Ram, I will look at these more closely for sure next year.

There's a fricken ghost in that truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's pretty sharp looking.

Hope the center console is narrower than the current generation. I cannot fit with that fat freakin console. You have to be a midget like Fred Diaz to fit.

I like the passenger red and yellow panic button.

I guess the focus on pickup gizmo's and electronics sort of passed me by.

The truck's cabin needs controls that are easy to reach, easy to read and clearly visible under a variety of ambient lighting conditions. The leather, software and communications details are all secondary to basic seating comfort, clear gauges, simple controls and utility in general.

RAM's upmarket interiors are beautiful but they were even more ahead of the other carmakers back in 2011 or so. The bar keeps getting higher.

I hate climate controls in the radio, hopefully GM and Toyota won't move towards this trend... It's so much easier to use the knobs than the touch screen radio.

That has hard buttons for hvac. It is a touch screen but I think they also made it so you can scroll menus with with the right wheel and hit an enter button. Looks really good! I wonder if they are getting the tow ratings up? That and a 6.4 hemi 8 speed would be nasty!

I will second that about the console on the current truck being way to wide, I had one for about rear, and just could not take the constant rubbing on my knee on long trips, I traded it for one, that I had to special order to get the 40/20/40 bench/console seat setup.

The big thing I am interested in finding out is with that new larger screen, I am betting they will have one really nice surround view camera system. With a screen that large it would be class leading. I have been pretty shocked they haven't added a surround view cam system to the current trucks. I like the current ram's a lot, they have just been falling a little behind in the latest truck tech wars.

These latest spy shots of that new center screen is making me believe the tech war is going to be game on.

I also had noticed that in the latest 2018 F150 that it has an odd amount of blank space surrounding the center screens, I am guessing that is not by accident, that Ford will likely up their screen size as the tech war continues to heat up in the full size truck market.

@Bhd if it's like other FCA I've had the pleasure of driving, it is much easier to change via the screen than the worthless buttons on the dash.

Bring on the TECH! I love it. If you do not change with the time, you become part of History. The more tech the better. I cannot comment on how it will be inside since this is just a picture, you would have to sit in one to determine if its big enough for you. I am 6'2" and have been in the newer Rams (2010) and had not problems with space.

Unless the roof crush strength gets better this truck will be a no go for me. I would like to see more articles on safety for pickup trucks. Ram seems to have the worst roof of all the trucks. With all the people that haul mainly their families around, I would guess they would like to know that a ram truck is a potential death trap compared to every other manufacturer in a roll over situation.

Nice looking interior.

Ram has a nice interior, but the electronics seem to not hold up well. I think this new interior looks fantastic, and tech is there for sure. Great job Ram. Can't wait to see the 2019 GMC Sierra Interior.

I will third the comment on the console being so wide.

I had a 2010 that had one, don't want one now.

Seems like it is rare to see anything above an Express without the console and of course, the 50 series tires on 20" wheels that I don't want either.

They used to give you more choices, now it's "buy it this way, we aren't listening."

I like having a center console after having two trucks with them. That said I do think my Ram's console is too wide. Looks like they've addressed that in the picture above.

Just FYI,
You can order A Laramie trim RAM with a 40/20/40, all though it seems its a bit rare to find one on the lot that way. The last 2 Ram's I purchased I had to special order with in Laramie trim and all the tech options, basically all the options except the bucket seats.

I wish they would offer a bench option in the Sport. It was the sport trim version that I initially wanted, which forced me to take one with the buckets and that wide console. That was the truck I had swapped out early for the bench seat Laramie I have now.

I probably would have gone with a limited or a trim level above Laramie had I not already had the issues with the wide console rubbing on my knee, and any trim above the Laramie also forces the buckets.

Ford and I believe others tend to taper the full length consoles width down some, around the knee area. That is what I am hoping that Ram does on the new 2019.

I want a stick shift but that's a lost cause.

Otherwise I want a column shift and a console that flips up and offers a place to seat a kid in a pinch with anchors for a child safety seat.

So they are copying Ford with the power down tailgate, and GM with the toggle switches at the bottom of the center stack.

What about a 6.4L hemi as a standard option, that's what i want.. I bought my '16 5.7L and should have checked for a bigger engine. 'Mo powar!

I like it...

Its a nice clean look. Hopefully the Fiat still has the 3 or 4 knobs which are best for knob functions (temp, volume, tuning). Looks like it may.

@Clint

We agree now and then. Simple and easy controls.

You should not have to take your gloves off to lock the door, turn on the a/c or change the volume on the radio

I'm a fancy boy. I like large vertical touch screens and any truck that doesn't have one is NFG. That's what the liberal media will be telling us in 2018.

I’m of average size I guess(230) because I sure hope that center console is at least as big as the 2013 I have Using that as a 3rd seat makes it possible for 6 ppl in the vehicle. I have seen the 2018 but now I think I will wait for the 2019. Also need to make more colors standard I am still getting compliments on mine

Nice Ram, way better then the cheap china plastic Ford has been pumping out since 1997.

Need fancy yurt Interiors in 2 wheel drive sport regular cab

Nice job RAM - definitely looks better than shaky GOVT motors trucks, I would certainly consider switching if they come out with Hellcat version..yeah!

Ram just keeps on getting better & better!

I just hope they save enough weight to enable truck builds with more options...
Ie:
Ecodiesel
Crew Cab with Bench seats
4x4
6' 4" rambox
and air ride.

Currently, this is only buildable with the base ST model...
I assume the lack of power locks, windows, etc saves enough weight for the other options to no effect GVWR.

I'd like an SLT/Outoodrsman or big horn, with the above mentioned options.

And hopefully the air ride adjusts faster...
I'd like the key fob to allow the truck to "sit" as I am walking up to it to get in.

Good work on the key fob options. Lowering the truck to allow drivers and riders easier access to get into the truck is smart. The power lift gate on the fob is another nice addition. These key fob additions add more convenience than most automakers realize.
