Best-Selling Pickup Trucks: December 2017

2017-Super-Duty-F-350A_F-150 - Copy

It's not unusual for pickup truck sales to finish strong at the end of the year; however, it is unusual to see pickups finish this strongly when the car sales are slumping dramatically, but that's what we saw in December.

Of note: Ford finished the year with one of the best-selling years in its history, more than doubling its low-water-mark sales number in 2009 (when it sold just 413,625 F-Series pickups). The Chevrolet Silverado also had a strong finish, up almost 25 percent from December 2016 and finishing almost 2 percent above 2016's total. Ram and Toyota's Tundra were the problematic standouts in the full-size class. December was a rough month for both; they finished well off their totals from December 2016. Rounding out the full-size pickups, the Nissan Titans finished with strong month-over-month and year-over-year numbers.

In the mid-size segment, both the Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado finished strong, with the former just falling short of the 200,000 sales mark. That would have been a Tacoma first. The Nissan Frontier continued to struggle, posting declining monthly and annual numbers.

We'll have more next week when we take a closer look at each of the pickup classes.

LOL! Only a GM dope would compare total trucks when Ford DOESN'T SELL A SMALL TRUCK in the US. Why look at numbers for things that don't exist. But whatever makes you guys sleep better at night...

Posted by: Smitty | Jan 4, 2018 5:31:52 PM

Dude, you missed your bus.

Not sure if anyone has captured this already but take notice that the 2 GM full size trucks combined out sold all the different models of F-series for December. 94,112 of GM full size trucks vs 89,388 of Ford full size. Then GM rubs Ford's face into the dirt with another 13,000 plus mid size trucks. Talk about finishing up the year at the top. GM crushes the competition.

You're a loser bro, kill yourself GMS

@ Frank

Man some of the crap u say to people. I'm from the Midwest and I was brought up to respect my elders, but if I ever run Into you or someone like you. I would shove my fist through your nose!!!!! Your unreal the way you speak to people. It's no wonder you have absolutely no friends!! You are a disrespectful, highly uneducated Neanderthal!

GM sells trucks. Ford sells trucks. GM sells more trucks!!!

Wow GM demolished Ford in December. I'm a Mopar/Cummins guy but it's always a great day when Ford gets beat. Crushed them like a pop can lol. Honestly though, nice to see that Ford finally had a good enough year to beat the record GM set in 2015. My local Ford dealer has been stacking up cash on the hood of those F-150's since June.

GM sells trucks. Ford sells more full size trucks. GM sells more mid size trucks trucks only because Ford is not currently, lol !!!
Toyota sells way more mid size trucks than GM, lol.

I just saw a current gen black 1/2 ton Sierra Denali with 22" wheels drive by. Damn, what a great looking truck. Best looking pick-up on the market.

@TNT,

Bring it bitch!

@TNT,

Bring it bitch!

I am not here to make friends on the internet, you get treated the way you treat others.

I can't believe how much more people avoid buying ford, than buying one. Ford is not as great as ford owners think it is. It's a fleet queen and always will be.
RAM is going to show you, who is the technology leader and what the real improvement looks like in just 10 more days.
Stay tuned.

I get respect cause I own the Ecoboost!
My co-workers, , friends and almost everybody likes me better since I switched to Ecoboost.
I get total strangers walk up to me in a parking lot saying: "Nice Truck Man" /or: "I wish I owned an Ecoboost" /and: "How do you like your Ecoboost, what gas mileage are you getting?"
I love to brag about my Ecoboost,,,, I mean I get respect I never had before!
Nobody makes fun of my ecoboost truck, people respect me as better, more intelligent cause I own one.

@ Frank

Everytime you respond you make my point loud and clear!!!

You are hopeless

@ Ecoboost rules

I do hope your joking, right! Lol...thats funny!

@Ecobust rules: I have no respect for your high maintenance trouble trap ecoboost. However, for your sense of humor I give you a nod.

TNT calls Frank a Neanderthal as he talks about raming his fist through his nose. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. You must have been brought up the wrong way. Man PUTC needs to purge some of these people. Its easy to talk the smack on an internet site, I bet most of these guys couldnt hold their own in the real world.

-CT

@ CT

Do you even comprehend his comments...telling someone to go kill themselves. Man you are as lost as Frank is!! UNREAL!!

Lol holding my own??....I won't even comment on that, but if you would like to find out, I'd gladly give you a lesson in manners!! Something I can see you lack as well in!

PUTC needs to purge those who post under multiple user names.

As for the TNT/Frank comments, Frank might fully recover from a punch in the face. So no harm no foul. LOL!

Ford needs to step up their game if they want to break the 1 Million mark. At 948,909 GM is less than 52,000 trucks away from it. Now if you wanted to include vans in the category
I would be curious to see where those numbers ended up.

In the end I don't really care. I want the record straight but I don't care if my preferred brand sells the most or not as long as they sell what I want within my price range without compromise. The number of trucks, or any other given product has no bearing on quality. Yes, the sheer number of units produced is commendable and an achievement in and of itself, however to equate production amount with quality or performance is only something an imbecile would do. However some of the commenters here apparently don't understand that, all they do is bleat like sheep when Mark Williams uses Hillary Clinton math to count numbers in these articles to make Ford come out on top.

@ HD RamKing. What record are you speaking of that GM set in 2015?

TNT- you opened yourself on this one, no need to try to pin it on others, I get that Frank has his own issues, but you cant call him a neanderthal and then talk about punching someone. That shows a lot about you. You need to understand many people have problems and its best to ignore them, its an easy win when you ignore. Letting others get the best of you, and they always win.

-CT

TNT needs to be banned

@ Greg

I need to be banned for sticking up for someone?

You are amazing!! Let me tell you!!

@ CT

The comments he makes to this site make him sounded like a Neanderthal!!

And sticking up for someone, by stating you would punch someone in the nose for telling someone to go kill themselves!! You guys have serious issues.

This site's blog is were intelligence has gone to die.

TNT, you stuck up for one of the bad ones, dont stoop that low. Stick up for the good people. Then I'll back you up.

-CT

@ CT

I'll stick up for anyone who doesn't deserve to be told to kill themselves. Sorry man, i'm just wired that way. Doesn't matter what has been said, you don't say stupid, hateful, ignorant stuff like that. I have had a friend commit suicide. It's no laughing matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree - TNTGMC has a long history of accusing any Ford supporter of mean spirit & doesn't realize his postings are worse. The he's good at deflecting & claiming innocence when he's called out. And then he follows up with his usual higher IQ claim...hahahah - he sounds more & more like our president now :-)

@ Lio

Tell me when I have deflected something? Yes, I have a very high IQ (THANKS--many years of college) and when you have people on here who ALWAYS belittle people with ignorant comments, you will get a remark back.

Explain your reasoning Lio please, I would love for you to shed a little light on the subject.

@@@@@@@ I see the kids learned something new today.

All aboard time to go home.

Why don't you use your own advice and ignore. Your not any better.

@TNTGMC; I'll take CT's advice, refuse to stoop down to your IQ level & best thing to do is just ignore you...
So hey, stick to the subject, this is a truck site after all...not to brag your IQ & yrs in college LOL...I have a lot of highly educated friends with Stanford degrees who are also a bunch of idiots & clueless in other subjects...:-)

Man PUTC needs to purge some of these people.

The Lawn Ranger and GMSRGREAT wanna be would be gone.

I understand why so many people hate the F-150
They are stuck with a $500-$700 loan at 72 months with another brand of pickup they don't like.
So they look for any excuse to find any fault with the F-150 just to make them feel better that they own a Chevy or Ram.

of over 3 million Eco-Boost's sold maybe 200 have engine problems but at the same time they ignore the transmission and driveline problems of the Chevy and Ram.
The F-150 Eco-Boost got a bad rap from the early models but those problems where corrected a year later.
The only issues right now with the current Eco-Boost is bad throttle bodies that only cost $160 that most are covered under warranty.
Engine fires are a thing of the past since they went to electric power steering.

@Ecoboost Rules

Problems with throttle bodies, timing chains, power steering pumps?

I'll just stick with my smooth, powerful, dependable, old school pushrod Gen 4 V8 from Chevrolet.

Thanks anyway.

@ Lio

I asked a simple question. I guess it was to hard for you to answer. Sorry, wasn't asking you to stoop to any level. Just wanted a simple response....but u fanboys can't answer directly I guess!!
Congrats on friends with degrees....hopefully u joined them and got a quality education. Alot of wonderful places to get an education in this great country

As for the topic....As I have always said, sales don't mean anything! Buy what suits u and is RELIABLE..

@TMTGMC

Ok if that's the rule then count the Explorer as a truck and Ford is back on top. If you stay in their classes, Ford outsells Gm in nearly every category. Cars included

@ECOBOOST RULES

that was a touching story, allow me to chime in. Every morning I walk outside and start up my 95 k1500 5.7l. Every time I stop somewhere I get asked how many miles are on that thing I just say its getting up there. Have fun with your modern day v6 that sounds like a hair dryer. Ill keep my old school v8

I just saw a Chevy commercial with "real people, not actors". They were sitting on a freeway bridge talking about dependability. The clown announcer introduces the Chevy models. The "real people" sit inside said Chevy models. The one gal says "wow, this feels reliable, I think I want a Chevy". I think that girl was GMSRGREAT. With hideous advertising like that, no wonder their truck sales have tanked.

I'll post back on topic. Ford is the #1 selling truck brand. The #1 selling fullsize truck company. GM is the overall #1 selling truck company. GM has 8 model's of truck, not 4. They do not list Silverado sales seperate by class. GMSRGRETTA refuse to believe that a Silverado 1500 Light duty is a different truck model than a Silverado 2500 or 3500 HD, when they are 3 different models. Ford has 4 truck models they count. F-150,250,350 and F-450. GMSRGRETTA somehow tries to fault Ford for counting all of it's Fullsize truck sales as Fullsize truck sales, then brags that GM sells more overall trucks with an 8 vs 4 approach. Then he post under papajim and johnnydoe to reiterate his stupidity. It has run it's course with me. I can't fix stupid so I'll just start ignoring it and it's multiple user name.

@2.7EcoBoostRoost..., GMSRGRETTA..., Village Idiot..., Elizabeth Bennett imitation from Jane Austen's novel about "willful misrepresentation of facts"..., A fairy for his nonsensical use of literary prose..., I threw the dictionary at him for all the lying, evading, spinning, twisting, denying, defending, twisting, dodging, slicing, dicing of facts......, His list of characters keeps growing...
I agree..., No We Can't Fix Stupid!!!
However, we can shun and ignore him...
RUN GRETTA RUN

LOL

Good show Honda! You managed to climb out of last place.
It is worth noting that according to business insider, #4 selling vehicle, the Toyota Camry, sold less than 400,000 models.
Trucks dominate the market place. Period.

Ford = 2 models of full size trucks. grocery get'r F-150 and different model Superduty. Sales totals of both models combined and reported as F-series. Very confusing, however, its fans amazingly eat up this deceptive reporting like school children on recess break.

GM = 2 models of trucks, Siverado and Sierre. Sales totals for each model reported seperately. Simple, why can't Ford do that? What are they afraid of?

The F-150 Eco-Boost has the best resale value
Used 2014-2016 F-150 Eco-Boosts are selling at a HIGHER price than what a new one costs!
Nobody wants a used 5.0 V8 F-150!

Not only is my F-150 Eco-Boost the BEST it's an INVESTMENT !

My 2016 F-150 Eco-Boost stickered for $46K
got $12K off = paid $34K
NADA is $37,500
AN INCREASE OF $3500 IN VALUE !

NOT Only are the F-150 the #1 in NEW sales

They are #1 in USED sales!

nobody talks about that! huh? huh? huh?
everybody wants a used F-150 Eco-Boost!
used car dealers can't sell the used Chevy's and Ram's cause nobody wants them!
also nobody wants a used 5.0 V8 F-150, the used market is flooded with them nobody wants
BUT ! when a used F-150 Eco-Boost arrives it sells fast and at the top price !

Hey GRETTA..., Ya got that post a little mixed up there as usual..., Which character you trying to be?..., No, don't answer, you might get mixed up again...
