Ford Issues 'Stop Driving' Warning for Select 2006 Rangers

2006 Ford Ranger

In a new high-priority Ford safety recall, the automaker is advising customers of certain 2006 Ford Rangers to stop driving their compact pickup and contact their dealer immediately for a free repair. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also issued a statement about the recall. Both Ford and NHTSA are reporting that the automaker will tow affected vehicles to a dealer for repair and provide a loaner.

According to Ford, more than 2,700 2006 Ford Rangers equipped with Takata airbag inflators have a higher risk of rupturing in the event of a crash than other Rangers under the same recall. The Rangers that should not be driven were built at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant in Minnesota between Aug. 10 and Dec. 15, 2005.

Ford issued this action following accidents that resulted in two separate fatalities, each involving a Ranger produced within those build dates. The 2004-06 Ranger is already part of the larger Takata airbag inflator recall, but as a result of these fatalities, Ford is advising owners of the 2,700 affected 2006 Rangers to stop driving them immediately and call a local dealership.

To find out if your Ranger is affected, check your vehicle identification number on the VIN checker at Ford's recall site. The Ford reference number for this recall is 18S02.

What a disaster this Takata thing is.

So is this a Ford problem or a Takata problem? Not good press when you about to roll out a new Ranger.

-CT

My 2010 Ranger had a 5-speed stop driving transmission. It would start, then stop. I traded it.

@CT,

TAKATA!!!

They've tainted the entire auto industry.

That's the problem with suppliers instead of building in house, they screw up, you catch hell!

I issued a "stop driving Ford" policy years ago!

Actually Frank Ford has tainted the entire auto industry!

The same attorney is also suing GM and Ram for the same.

More death trap Ford trash. Happens though with all the cheap China parts Ford keeps using.

@johnny dum dum; in fact these airbags were built in Japan

In fact its 2018 and Ford still using Cheap a#$ parts! Atleast their starting to pay back people for the cheap junk they been using. Still be problems with the new gen el cheap Fords though! It's 2018 stuff should still as a door should work right after only 38,000 miles. HAHAHAHAHA! Nope not if you own a Ford, 100 years later can't even get doors right! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8oblJPEaAQ&t=502s

Then you got the 6.7l power joke you need to remove the transmission to replace the timing cover on front of the engine! Talk bout failure! Poor stupid people keep buying that junk!

I stopped driving Fords in 98 when mine burnt to the ground.

From a cigarette.

Don't smoke.

Ford still has better customer satisfaction than your brand of pickup does. Why do you think that is?

"The Honda Ridgeline outscored competitors in the compact pickup segment by a wide margin, while the Ford F-350 was among the top 10-ranked vehicles in the survey, the first time in at least five years that a pickup made it into the top 10, Consumer Reports said."

Has nothing to do with Ford. The Ranger is fine, the Takata air bag is causing headaches for all that used them.

Simple I answer that in my post above you copy and pasted.
" Poor stupid people keep buying that junk!"

Has nothing to do with Ford.

Most common thing I hear in Ford recall posts, but yet Ford agreed and pay them to make the part to put in their car/trucks. So yeah it is Ford's fault!

Yeah Ford clowns on here wasted no time gloating when news of a class action lawsuit against GM over the Duramax was first posted. They were SOOO smug when they thought that GM was cheating. They were certain that Ford wouldn't be sued -- saying garbage like "GM had to cheat on emissions to compete against the Powerstroke" -- uh huh. I warned them way back then that Ford would be next. And now here we are.

Not surprised. Cheapest and most efficient fix would be to simply disable all of those now in recall status.
Anything more is a waste of OEM money and owner time.

You make this way too easy, what a ricochet, that must smart, lol.
And in typical GM fashion , delay, delay, delay and hope it goes away.

So by your esteemed logic, this is GM's fault.

How many died from faulty GM ignition springs? Could have sworn it was more than a few. Then they hired the lady to run things. She must not have been the engineer of all things GM springs. All's well now.

Never had any problem with my 2016 F-150 Eco-Boost except for a throttle body that only costs $160
the rattling noise at startup has gone away just like Ford Service said it would

Takata... the gift that wont stop giving...

By GM Blows Chunks logic it can't be GM's fault cause Delphi built the ignitions swtiches. Yet he's one of the first to bash GM over it. Stupid Ford clowns I swear.

It's that GM hid and lied about it, going so far as to use the same part # for a different switch to further hide what was going on GM Clown, I swear - clueless blind loyalty.

That's quite pretentious of Ford to issue a "stop driving" warning.

As if any Ford that old is still driving.

Oh please. I went back and checked the relevant posts when it happened to Fiat and GM, and the GM guys were already bashing Ford in the GM/RAM lawsuit threads by the 2nd or 3rd comment in.

From one of FORDS Multi Million FIRE!!!!! RECALL!!!!!

The Ranger is just like its cousin. Fire Recalled!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GteXPzuY9uQ

Folks, automakers are assemblers that source their parts from many OEM suppliers, based on specifications and often price. The automaker is responsible for vetting the vendor and their parts, so while this IS a Takata problem, it is ALSO a Ford problem, just as the Firestone tires were and just as Takata affecting other manufacturers. You would be amazed how many parts are not made by the company that places their badge on your tailgate.
