2018 Ford F-150: Recall Alert

2018_f-150_recall

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 250,000 model-year 2018 Ford F-150 pickup trucks with 10-speed transmissions built at the Dearborn Truck Plant between Jan. 5, 2017, and Feb. 16, 2018, and built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant between Jan. 25, 2017, and Feb. 16, 2018

The Problem: The gear-shift cable clip on the transmission may not be fully seated, allowing the transmission to be in a gear different from the shift position selected by the driver. This could allow the driver to move the shifter to Park, remove the key from the ignition and allow the vehicle to be in a gear other than Park when exiting the vehicle which, if the parking brake is not applied, could result in injury or a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect and verify that the shift cable locking clip is properly installed. If the clip is not properly installed, technicians will adjust the shifter cable and secure the locking clip at no charge to the owner.

What Owners Should Do: Ford did not immediately announce an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call the manufacturer at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.

Don’t worry FORD will take care of you not like some other companies that they don’t even want to accept the they trucks are junk. One example is THE GARBAGE MOTORS CONPANY RECALL IGNITION SWITCHES. FIAT TRUCKS ROTARY SHIFTER. So everyone has recalls at some point but others fix the problem others don’t.

wind them up and turn them loose

Always on a Friday...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The problem-it's a Ford
The fix- get rid of it
What owners should do-buy another brand

LOL.

LOL.

They have so many recalls its crazy!!!

You put that in your diary yet buttercup.

And don't say it's because GM helped design the 10 speed. This a Ford problem because of there lousy design.

So steering wheels falling off Cars and SUV"S and now this.
Fords new slogan should be "A Fool and his Money soon Part"
BUY GM

So when you have to tow it, how do you know where Neutral is?

The problem is they worked with GMC (General Motors Crap) to make the 10 speed transmission. Ford should have known better...

Nap time must be over.

Lol....frank just stop please....

The problem with Ford is that they have to many mindless individuals like Frank putting trucks together

Ooops...That particular gear shift cable clip must not have been made of military grade materials. They must have been civilian grade or even less.

So when you have to tow it, how do you know where Neutral is?

Ford may have to roll out the parking brake sticker recall again. LOL!

LOL 😂

LOL 😂

Frank

It's NOT a Bruce Jenner problem!
It's not a bad tranny! Nothing wrong with the 10 speed!
It's just a simple linkage problem

My truck has been in for more recalls and tsb than any of my other vehicles combined. 2 more months and my Ecoturd is being traded.

F150 Ecoboost

I have over 6000 miles on my 3.5 Eco-Boost and no problems except for a stuck throttle body, easy, cheap fix, a new throttle body only costs $160

They have so many recalls its crazy!!!

I agree. Ford should be embarrassed.

I love my F-150. I personally think it's the best truck out there, by a fairly large margin. But, Ford's quality control is a joke. Gotta call it how I see it.

Sadly people by and large still don't use parking brakes. With all these high tech electronic transmissions they should be used every time.

@ Ecoboost Rules

With only 6k miles, you shouldn't have had to pay for new throttle body. Warranty should have covered it??

They should have asked GM to help them design the cable as well.

Hell maybe they should get some advice on timing chains, door handles, and steering wheels as well.

You know, all the unimportant stuff......

Enough fun, back to a serious question,

I see some 6-speed F-650 and 750's got on the list as well, but 350,000 must be every 10 speed they sold up to this point in the 2018 model year. Why on God's green earth did they change the shifter clip on the 2018 models if the 2017 models don't have this issue. Or do they?

Cost saving? Manufactured defect? Hired a new guy to push the clip on and forgot to train him? Automated assembly gaffe?

It would be interesting to get details but I know that won't happen...

The money Ford spends on paper for recalls must be impressive!!

Hackett made them go paperless on recalls to save money.

;)

Recall city Ford.

Lots of readers complain about the GM and Fiat bailout .Remember that this little sticker was a bailout for Ford. If the Government never let Ford send out these little stickers instead of repairing the transmissions Ford would have went Bankrupt.

Your truck broke down by 6,000 miles and you're okay with that? You're lucky if you only had one throttle body fail. There are some guys with 2015+ F-150's that have had 2 or 3 TB's fail before they got a working one. It doesn't bode well in the long-term if the part is so poorly designed or produced that the failure rate is that high. Plus you get to look forward to timing chains/misfires/turbo failures/etc. But hey, if you're alright with replacing $160 parts every 6k miles, good for you.

Ford didn't work with GM on the 10-speed. Instead of both companies collaborating on the 10-speed's development, the agreement said that Ford would develop a 10-speed transmission based on the Ford/GM 6-speed (6R80 aka 6L80) and shared with GM. In return, GM would design a 9-speed automatic for transverse applications and shared with Ford. Every new transmission has issues. Ford fanboys here gloated for days when GM had issues with the first 8-speed transmissions. Now Ford is the one having issues. And the Ford 10-speed has plenty of problems besides this shift linkage issue.

The park brakes should apply automatically whenever park is selected. Just like automatic headlamps turn on at night and auto wipers operate when it rains. The technology is there, why not use it.

maybe gm will have the same problem,,,

Ford sold their soul with Al Gore's Gang and the tree huggers. Tiny engines with big turblows.

Better check your history, G.M. was the only bail out. Chrysler paid back in full @ 16% interest. Al Gore's gang don't like Hemi's.

LOL :D, The amount that Ford recovered, was impressive.

I see now they added a small number of vehicles with 10 speed transmissions that may have the pin on the park pawl missing or fall out.

Seems like the codevelopment engineering is solid. So far assembly and quality control are garbage.

I bet GM is sitting back laughing, thanking Ford for beta testing this transmission for them. I always wondered why they waited on the transmission rollout. But between having their 8 speed already, and now Fords recalls, maybe it was better to sit back and let the design mature on someone elses dime.

F - flawed
O - or
R - recalled daily

Completely false.

The government lost money on GM and Chrysler. Both paid the loan portion back. Gm paid it's loan back early with interest.

The only manufacturer that still owes the government money at this point is Ford. The $5.9 Billion "loan" they took doesn't get paid off until 2022.

Read up on it.

You guys crack me up! Automatic parking brake? Why not a sensor to detect incline and turn the wheels to hit the curb?

One more thing to malfunction.

How much are you willing to pay to be lazy?
Is the left foot too busy to push that peddle? It's right there!

You know i hear what you're saying, but I'm going to agree with GMSRGREAT on this.

With all the changes in modern cars going to electronic engagement for trans and drive by wire for the throttle, it may need to be looked at having a redundant parking system. The park pawl was great when you had a positive linkage to engage on trans and throttle but when a throttle cable failed typically you had nothing. Electronic items could fail in a position that allows a higher percentage of unwanted movement.

The good thing is that they know there’s a problem, and they’re issuing a recall to fix it. But this whole situation with so many OEMs having problems with CVTs and multi-speed automatic transmissions is crazy.

I also believe this whole situation has been created by Obama and his administration’s push to force OEMs to build cars and trucks to meet unrealistic fuel economy and emissions regulations under unrealistic timelines.

I'm not sure that the government is at fault on this one.
I tend to think the blame should be on quality control, or lack of it.
What ever happened to "Quality is Job One"
Must have taken the day off

And people wonder why I don't trust Fords.

Check out the new colors for the 2018 F-150's
Stone Gray
Magma Red

I love the Magma Red !

local dealer has one in the Magma Red but it has the 2.7 engine and I want the 3.5 Eco-Boost, it's stickers for $50K but I know I can get it for $35K and my 2016 F-150 books for $38K so just maybe the dealer will give me a $2000 check
