Pickup Truck Sales Breakdown: March 2018
Here's the bottom line: Pickup truck sales continue to do well, even with the national angst about the fluctuating stock market. Why? For the most part, it's because fuel prices remain low, the economy is doing well in key sectors, and construction starts and the housing market are steady. Still, there were some interesting things happening in March despite winter keeping much of the country in its grips.
In the mid-size segment, the Toyota Tacoma extended its dominance with the most impressive month in its history, selling more than 20,000 units. That makes it the top-selling single-model nameplate on our March best-sellers list. Of course, the caveat is that Ford, GM and Ram do not break out half-ton sales; if they did, one of those truckmakers could lay claim to the top-selling single-model pickup. Likewise, the Chevrolet Colorado had it best-ever sales month, selling more than 12,000 units. Even the over-achieving Nissan Frontier had a strong month. Honda still brought up the rear with the crossover-based Ridgeline.
In full-size pickup sales, Ford's F-Series had a strong month, selling almost 88,000 pickups, most of which were F-150s. Fun fact: Ford has sold more than 90,000 pickups in one month only seven times in its history, most recently in July 2005. The closest Ford has come recently was in December 2017 with more than 89,000 pickups sold. Chevrolet also had a big month, selling almost 25 percent more pickups in March compared to 2017.
As to sales numbers by manufacturer, March was the first month in recent memory that Ford has sold more pickup trucks than GM, which offers three pickup flavors: mid-size, half ton and heavy duty. Although it has a slim lead, Ford looks like it will be well-positioned to gain momentum when the mid-size Ranger makes its debut at the end of the year.

despite both companies selling products that are long in the tooth, Ford and GM continue to hit home runs.
Ford's upcoming Ranger truck (and GM's new models) later this year might otherwise weigh heavily on truck sales. Instead, the Big 2 are having very solid months.
RAM should have new product in the showrooms very soon. We'll see what that means for FCA.
Our local Ram dealer has 2019 models coming in already. It is one of the nicest looking trucks both inside and out. If the Hemi would have been upgraded I would be more tempted to switch from Ford.
GOOD JOB FORD - TO BAD THEY ARE ALL ON RECALL. THE EMPLOYEES THAT HAD THE JOB OF PUTTING ON THE TRANNY CLIPS NEED TO GO BACK TO CLIP SCHOOL.
quality IS JOB NONE AGAIN. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Where does it say that the f-150 is the top selling full size? Where is the Ranger being sold?

I thought I caught a silver 2019 Ram out of the corner of my eye but the new design looks similar to a Chevy from some angles so it's tough to know for sure.
Nowhere else too post this on the site, but the Mercedes X Class Pickup will go on sale in Australia next week
More on the Mercedes Pickup being sold next week and the model breakup

Ram ALREADY has new product on dealer lots! Looked at one last weekend and they are nice. But Ford kicked everyone in the nutts again.
Yea, ranger was doing so well that's why they stopped production. :-)
Wouldn't touch a Ford product, they screwed the pooch one to many times.
Look how many drank the Kool-Aid, some never learn.
Hah How funny the GARBAGE MOTORS CRY BABIES THEY Don’t know how to act when they Precious GARBAGE MOTORS IS IN TROUBLE. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Nice job ford!!!!! THE BEST NEVER REST!!!!

Apparently people have been drinking it for 41 years. Say it with me, say it slowly.... Ford sells the most full size trucks of any brand. It won't change in the next 41 years. Only people drinking real Kool-Aid think otherwise.

No it shows that there are a lot of really mindless people out there that buy trucks that get recalled ALOT!! Heck Ford still sold well when it had the 2 terrible engine from 97 to 2010....those 2 V8/s were jokes of motors.....4.6 and 5.4. Please total boat anchors!!

Say it with me..... Ford sells more full size trucks than Chevy. Not even close!! Different leagues here! Ford is like Major leagues and Chevy is like Division 3 college.

They sold those jokes well!! Maybe people didn't want oil burning and engine mis firing cylinder deactivation junk? With rusty frames and holes in the bed side after 4 years...just saying....
Call your hero Obama and say the bankruptcy payback was a farce. Tell him thanks for letting the American worker pay for the Mexican built Chevy trucks. Tell him thanks for your unicorn 6.2 engine that working people who buy Ford's paid for. Tell him you love him like you do!!!
Lol...your just jealous BC my engine is bigger than yours!!!!
You don't ever listen...I told u I didn't vote for Obama.... Open your eyes and learn to read!!! Also, your truck is up for recall again. Take care of it so u don't hurt someone important like your buddy Frank
2.7EcoBoostRoost is just mad. He's stuck making 600 dollar payments for 10 years on a 5,000 pound truck with lawn mower engine with no power.
Nice job ford!!!!! THE BEST NEVER REST!!!!

LOL except for that period of time between 2014 and 2017 where Ford was continuously bent over the bed railing. Finally, after 4 years of Ford getting slammed by the big one, they eeked out a few good months. Pretty sad when "that game-changing" aluminum body was supposed to put Ford sales way ahead of GM, Ram, and others, yet it took 3 whole years for that military grade alloy joke to pull ahead of th old steel trucks. Enjoy it while it lasts, Ford's tin foil toy trucks are about to get recycled.
I only put 2500-3000 miles a year on my new truck.
So I have no worries about my 3.5 Eco-Boost engine blowing up
I never wear out a set of tires.
There are times where my new truck sits so long that the brakes rust and lock up.
I have a company service van (2014 Ford E350 with 5.4 V8) I take home and I put 35,000 miles a year on that, have 130K on the 5.4 and never had a problem.
oh,, only one problem: the radio doesn't work when it gets below freezing outside, then after it warms up all of the sudden the radio comes on at full volume and it scares me where I almost have a heart attack, I was told the radio has old style vacuum tubes and they have to be warm to work.
Too bad the Toyota Corolla is the best selling vehicle period!
Corolla was first to 30 million, first to 40 million and will be first to 50 million sold!

Wait didn't you say in a different comment that your throttle body has failed a couple times so far...? I know a couple 2016 and newer F-150's that have had more than one low-quality Ford throttle body replaced. Same goes for Ford's low quality turbos and hub locks. MY 2016 has been TERRIBLE when it comes to electrical problems, hub l9ck failures, interior fit and finish, and electrical issues... I dumped my Ram for this Ford for rust reasons. Now I think rust sounds better than the unreliability of this Ford garbage.
I guess the GM boys can no longer say they win with all combined.
I get to ride the new Ram (2019) in 2 weeks!!!!

I guess the GM critics will have to drop the riff that "all combined" doesn't matter, eh?
papa- I am not a GM critic, just a critic of the stupidity you guys spew on a daily basis, as you just stated.

See this crap, I never say this crap. This 4.6/5.4L are stout motors, you know nothing, heck, what are going to say now? LS MOTORS are KING, heck they are a carbon of the SBF.
***Carbon Copy of the SBF!!!!
Best selling for the month of March? Must be Ford dumped a bunch of trucks on the fleets at cut throat prices to achieve this status.

Stout motors??? i knew there was a problem with your thinking, but You lost all credibility there man!!! Putting those to engines in the same sentence as an LS motor!!! LMFAO

Have you ever took apart an LS engine and a SBF?
You probably never even changed a damn battery.
We're done here.
FYI, police departments sell their cruiser to TAXI company still running the 4.6L 2V after 300K.
You really don't know anything.
It's hard to find quality, craftsmanship, or just a general give a darn anymore... If you find them.. oay them enough to stay...
@ Frank
I don't know anything?? Really...you are the one who constantly spouts off insult, after insult, and talk about a taxi company that has 4.6L in a car!!!!! You just proved my point that the 2 v8's offered in the Furd Trucks were not meant for WORK, more for a car/sedan!!! The 4.6 was LARGELY under-powered and the 5.4L has more issues than you do!!! And we all know that's a lot of issues!!!
I'm done talking to you!! Changing a battery, please!!!
Regardless of them being under powered, as you solely claim, they still outsold anything GM, and in addition the 5.4L was always a better puller then the 5.3L.

In 2010 the 4.6L in the Mustang GT put out 300HP.....they get that out of a turbo 4 and or N/A V6.....they were underpowered! Heck 10 years before that GMs 5.7L was making 305 to 325 HP out of older technology....
Nissans 350Z was putting over 300HP out of it V6
Come on Frank...u known it's true!!!
I will agree with u though, that they did sell and sell well... Unreal to me....

FALSE!
It put out 315HP, with no competition. What are the 2011 Numbers.
The 2009 Camaro SS is slower than a 2001 Mustang SVT.
You just post LIES and GARBAGE!!!

This is because people will buy a better product when they see it.
Can you really imagine all the same people buying one product that fails?
No.
In addition, I rarely see any 96-2002 Camaro on the roads, but I see tons of 85-2003 Mustangs. This speaks volumes.
You really don't know anything.
Oopps my bad... 315 your right. Had 260/then 300 for years. Umm camaro wasn't around I agree but the GTO ate it up!! Do a little research on that. So did that V6 Nissan 350z
You constantly say that I know nothing.....
I see a lot of older camaros on road
I also know that in the 50 years of existence.. The mustang has only beaten the camaro a handful and times.....tough pill to swallow
As for selling a lot...just proves that there are a lot of fools out there
And your 2001 supercharged SVT cobra couldn't even beat a N/A camaro SS...SAD. Who knows nothing??

Please stop typing. Goodbye buttercup!!!
Still JUNK

The 4.6/5.4 always were and always will be utter garbage.
The only way a 32 valve 5.4 made decent power is when Ford shoved air down its throat. In naturally aspirated forn it was a joke. Famous for worn out valve guides, burnt valve seats, busted rockers, stretched timing chains, top end oil starvatuon, and cheap oil pumps. There's a reason Ford threw the design out with the rest of the garbage when they designed the Coyote. The 5.4/4.6 was a dead end dumpster fire.
