2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation Special Edition: Spied
Final preparations are in place for GMC to reveal the 2019 Sierra 1500's full powertrain lineup and specifications. We know because Chevrolet just gave us the chance to drive what is likely to be two of the more popular powertrains for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 when it goes on sale later this fall. Naturally, we're assuming all the same powertrains will be made available for the GMC. What Chevy is likely not to get anytime soon is the GMC-exclusive MiltiPro Tailgate, which offers a smaller tailgate inside a bigger, full-size tailgate for six different functions.
As expected, GMC continues to test the 2019 Sierra 1500. Here's what our spy shooters just sent us after they caught what looks like the Elevation Special Edition doing some boat-towing exercises.
"This is the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation, caught while tow testing nearly undisguised in Milford, Mich.
"Parent company GM recently debuted the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 at a special event in Detroit, but showcased only two trim levels in the introduction: the Denali and SLT. GMC later unveiled the Sierra 1500 AT4 at the 2018 New York International Auto Show, but still failed to reveal the rest of the Sierra 1500 lineup.
"The Sierra Elevation Special Edition seen here has a unique grille (yes, another one) with what we believe will be chrome slats surrounded by body-color accents, black-painted aluminum wheels, body-color front and rear bumpers, and a traditional exhaust setup.
"We expect the Sierra Elevation to be equipped with the recently announced 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which is good for 310 horsepower and 348 pounds-feet of torque. The Sierra 1500 can also be equipped with a 4.3-liter V-6 paired with a six-speed automatic, a 5.3-liter V-8 mated to an eight-speed automatic or a 6.2-liter V-8 paired with the new 10-speed automatic. A 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel (also equipped with the 10-speed) will be available in spring 2019."

At first glance, looks like a Tundra. Odd wheel wheel shape.
YOU asked for it, you got it, TOYOTA !
That truck sure is squatting a lot for that little bit of weight.
Typical GARBAGE from GARBAGE MOTORS COMPANY....my son and I LOATHE GARBAGE MOTORS!!
In this case the Chevy is much better looking. Yeah, I think I like the square wheel wells better than these. It’s laves an odd impression of the wheel in relation to the body. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say.
*leaves
I bet it has the 4 cylinder and IDK if its squatting or if its going to come factory more level?? For FE purposes, plus look at where the tonneau cover stops at? It doesn't go to the back of the tailgate? Does that have something to do with the new multipurpose tailgate I wonder?
The trim on the wheel wells really ruins the looks, and draws your attention to that funky shape.
So basically, Silverado and Sierra just swapped wheel well.
So that's what a Silverado, F150 and Tundra if mushed together.
Plus, I think the trucks looks ugly with headlight that looks like cuttlefish eyes. It was ugly on the F150 and it is still ugly on the GM twins.
JUNK JUNK JUNK IT LOOKS UGLY ALL THE WAY AROUND JUST LIKE CHEVYOTA TUNDERADO HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. KEEP IT REAL FELLAS!!!!!.
WOW, from the side it looks nothing like a Sierra. I think I like it because it has Toyota lines to it. Nice. That turbo motor will be a big seller cuz that is what customers are starting to go to since Ford started the trend....
I wanted to see a picture of the boat....
I've seen more camo on customer owned trucks then this one, hope you guys do not pay for those photo's
It looks like Johnny 5.
It looks hideous!!!!
Another great looking truck from the truck leader.
GEE-EM
GEE-UNK!!
Enjoy your wheel wells! Hahahahahaha!!!!!
Looks like Ford and Toyota mated.
Too bad GM is all out of ideas.
@ Chris
How are they out of ideas? Please explain
Much better front clip than the chevy.
Nice to see GM FINALLY getting modern engines and materials into its trucks and a manstep even if they made fun of Ford for it and found a way to overcomplicate and overprice it.
Really like that their small 1/2 ton diesel will be I 6 instead of V. Looking forward to 1/2 ton diesel comparisons.
Too bad GM is all out of ideas.

They'll just wait for Ford to roll out something and try and top it, that's how's it's been the past 100 plus years.
Don't believe me, ask papajim.
The engine is likely a turbo V6 of 3.5L to 4.0L. This will allow GMC to have an engine to compete with the 3.5 Ecoboost. This will likely be a GMC exclusive engine.
@ Frank in FL
They already have an engine that competes/BEATS the ecoboost (either one 2.7L/3.5L)...its called the N/A 6.2L V8!!

@ Frank
Whats their excuse for their V8 engines then?? They bragged up Ecoboost for ages, now they know public isn't drinking Ford Lies Kool-Aid. So they up charge for the mustang based coyote engine. That still can't compete with the corvette 6.2L V8 monster that gets better gas mileage than the 5.0L?
I think its Ford trying its hardest to find a V8 that can match the already strenuous demand of the 6.2L! GM can't build the engine fast enough so many people want it!
If 70 percent of Ford trucks come with a Ecoboost engine. (Not my numbers just something I read). Then Ford likely sells more trucks with Ecoboosts than GM sells with V8s.
I am a life long GM buyer, fan, whatever you want. I think it's ok to like what ever you want Ford, Ram, Toyota. I don't make fun of Ford for turbos or Ram for giant touch screens, it must be what their customers want and that's fine.
So as a GM fan, please hear me GM........
This new truck is awful looking! It has no fluid lines, no linear look whatsoever! It looks like abstract art gone bad auto design! It kind of reminds me of the second generation Taurus that was just a blob and had no edges! It DOES look like a Tundra (as does the Chevy) and as a GM buyer I don't want my truck to like a Toyota! This thing is terrible and I can't help but wonder what the hell happened to GM's design studio?
It does not matter that the powertrain is great or the technology is class leading, if the truck is dang ugly you can't bear to look at it, it won't be accepted. Do you remember the AZTEC??
@ Frank in FL
Your missing my point. GM's V8s (5.3L/6/2L) perform as well/better in all areas then Fords Ecoboost. GM doesn't need to make a twin turbo V6 when their V8's do it all. Especially since they invested a lot of technology into their new cylinder deactivation system in their V8's.
That's my point

Nobody cares for the GM 6.2L, everyone opts for the 5.3L and get smoked by a V6TT
GM 6.2L Sales is like 5%, GM will discontinue it soon, and then what?
Go turbos??????
@ Frank
Really? I told you GM can't build 6.2L fast enough! GM's 5.3L gets better fuel economy than your ecobust. Plus, I thought you don't care about 0-60 in a truck. Contradiction anyone!! Man your unreal! PLEASE STOP!!!
@TNT on average the 2.7 does better on overall avg fuel economy vs the 5.3. Performance adv to the 5.3. The 3.5 gets slightly less fuel econony than the 5.3. Performance advantage 3.5. The 5.3 and 5.0 are nearly identical in economy but performance advantage to the 5.0. The 5.3 ECU tuning from GM is crap as you know. The GM 6.2 is the clear winner in both. Fantastic engine. GM and the high trim only keeps the volume to around 10%. It has nothing to do with production constraints but the high initial purchase cost IMHO.
@ Smokin
Yes, ECU in 14-18 5.3L is crap, had one, changed it, and it was totally different, still no excuse, I agree with you! Still proven reliable motor, like 5.0L sounds like its being.
The 6.2l should be offered just like the 5.3l is in all trim levels! Production is not even close to the numbers the 5.3l is, bc, I think GM didn't think it would sell this well! I PROMISE YOU that if GM offered the 6.2L engine in the lower trims it would sell like CRAZY over any motor made by GM, and I think alot of people would cross shop more from Ford and Dodge.
Because yes, You can get can get an Ecoboost or 5.0L in a lower trim of a Ford, for those guys who want a regular trim truck and not pay $$$$ for it, so yes kudos to Ford.
Could you imagine a double cab or single cab GM truck with a base LT trim matched to a 10 spd 6.2l V8. It would be amazing, and I do SHAME GM for not having this engine available more to the public. Not arguing that one bit!
@TNT, lots of defending going on from you, I see not much has changed on here......seriously, what proof do you have that the 6.2l cant be built fast enough? I rarely see that engine being used. Plus trying to compare the 6.2 to a turbo small block v6 Ford engine is kinda crazy dont you think? That little engine does quite well compared to the big beast 6.2, that is a bit embarrassing IMOP to try to actually want to compare that to the ecoboost. I thought you were more knowledgeable than that TNT come on......
The Ford boys are pulling out all the stops today. It must suck to have nothing to get excited about product-wise for the next couple of years.
If the Ranger lays an egg, these guys will be going ballistic!
@ Nitro
LMFAO...really..Ford claims there Ecoboost matches the 6.2L that's why. Come on man, I thought you were knowledgeable!
Plus, its not GM's fault Ford jumped wagon and bailed on their V8's! They had the 6.2L of their own, but decided to scrap that!! OUCH, that one probably hurts the most doesn't it??
And yes, I read an article that stated GM was trying to ramp up more production of the 6.2L BC of the higher demand.
Here it is:
https://www.nashvillepost.com/business/manufacturing/article/20490080/gm-to-invest-148m-at-spring-hill-to-build-v8-engines
I also called GM customer service rep personally 3 years ago before I got my 2016 Sierra and asked why they didn't put a 6.2L in an SLT Yukon, bc I didn't want to pay for the Denali name. (I was seriously thinking of getting one of those instead of a truck) They said bc there was a shortage of them? Now, take it for whats it worth, I am just stating what they told me.
GM is losing market share to Ford due likely to the Ecoboost.
@ TNT
That link is going on 3yrs old. Times have changed. Most notably, GM’s Full Sized P/UP market share has plummeted. So if they’re building this 6.2L unicorn truck engine in the numbers you think, those trucks are sitting on the dealers lots.
@ Harvey
The point is 3 years go there was a demand and that demand was short! There still is a short. I am all for GM to put 6.2L in any trim level but they won't bc they know people will eventually cave and pay big bucks
Case in point: denali, escalade, platinum, navigator, and platinum expositions highest trims are the best selling!
I don't have a life, so I care about what a pickup looks like rather than how well it works.
I don't have a life, so I care about what a pickup looks like rather than how well it works.
Poor, poor Fordtards! They think crying like bunch of school girls will save them from they mighty GM trucks that rules was road! Along with Ram beating on their blue Kool-Aid oval back door LMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ford = Failure.

LOL yet the bed won't rip apart like a pop can F-150's weak embarrassing bed. AND this truck will have a 4WD that isn't made of plastic.

That truck sure is squatting a lot for that little bit of weight.

That's not squatting. Watch this video and check out the F-150. Now THAT is squatting.
https://youtu.be/PJBDjsBWvZs?t=1m15s
If you look closely, you can see the sparks as the Ford's bumper grinds along the ground. Now *that* is pathetic.

Ford put out a 5.0 with 4 cams and 32 valves, independent intake and exhaust VVT, variable manfold, direct injection, and higher compression, yet it still struggles to beat a 6.2L 16 valve pushrod V8 in fuel economy or power. So Ford avoids putting V8's in anything at all costs. No Ford Expdition or Lincoln Navigator V8 options. And if you want an F-150 with a 5.0 V8, you have to settle for the jvnk, wimpy 8.8" rear axle. And in a truck, the 5.0 continues to be a disappointment in fuel economy.

GMC is only trying to attract that gullible metros that normally flock to the F-150 thanks to all those lame Ford commercials. I guess Ford guys that like looking like Nancy's as they step in and out of their bed, might be attracted to the GMC step now. For the rest of us, the bumper step is a monument of simplicity: A monument to the dumb clowns Ford calls engineers, that couldn't see a simple solution to a common problem, so they pioneered the most overly complicated piece of craap even seen.
And if you want an F-150 with a 5.0 V8, you have to settle for the jvnk, wimpy 8.8" rear axle.
Posted by: Brawndo | May 23, 2018 1:55:23 AM
The 8.8" axle is a j0ke. Cheap chinese carrier bearings, weak axle tubes, totally undersized for a modern halfton. It's only fitting that the 8.8" is used on Ford's V8's. Their DOHC naturally aspirated V8's have always been weak, might as well put a weak axle behind it. Goes great with the plastic 4WD hub locks and ultra thin rear leaf springs. Can't forget the stamped steel control arms Ford calls "tough" when they used to call them weak.
I’ve owned a 2013 5.0 and never had a problem with power, springs, 4x4, or control arms? Do you have any DATA to support your claims of weak designs? I’m sure anyone could dig up anything on any brand. I find your critical view of Ford customers, verbal bullying, unwarranted stereotyping only indicate a general lack of sophistication and or self esteem. It’s one thing to deal with fanboys, that’s in good fun. Calling people out for the personal choices they make is clearly ignorant and disrespectful.

@ Brawndo
MY POINT EXACTLY!!! I am argueing this over on other comment section on GM offers more choices!!. Ford guys just dont get it! They don't MAKE a V8 that competes with the GM 6.2L.
They brag the 5.0L will beat the 5.3L..yes in acceleration, but its tuned for FE! the 5.3 trounces it in that department!
