2020 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali: Spied
Our spy shooters have been spotting different configurations of GM's new heavy-duty pickup trucks on known testing routes and public roads, which normally signals the automaker is getting close to the end of full testing cycles. Here's what our spy shooters sent us about a model we've hadn't seen in the wild before: a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali crew cab. We especially like what GM has done with the sideview mirrors. We're expecting some added camera features for the new design as well.
"Today we caught out first look of the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali crew cab. "We recently spied almost the entire lineup of GM's HD tucks, but unfortunately the Sierra 2500 Denali was a no-show. From these shots it appears that the Sierra 2500 Denali mimics the formula found on the recently debuted GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, with a bigger and bolder upscale chrome grille, unique 20-inch rims and squared-off running boards. We also could make out the word "Denali" embroidered on the head restraints. Also, like the 1500, the next-generation 2500/3500 is said to use an extensive mix of aluminum/steel materials.
"The GMC Sierra 2500 Denali seen here is a diesel (note the exhaust pipe); expect power to continue from the recently refreshed 6.6-liter Duramax V-8 engine, while the aging 6.0-liter V-8 is likely to continue soldiering on as the standard gasoline option. However, it wouldn't surprise us if GM added a more modern V-8 to the mix. We've heard no official word on transmission offerings thus far, but considering Ford and Ram are still using six-speed units in their heavy-duty rigs, we expect GM to stick with its current standard automatic heavy-duty transmission along with the optional Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission. There is a chance a modified version of the new Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission could show up.
"We're expecting the new 2020 HDs to debut sometime in early 2019, with an on-sale date later in the year."

Again--the same old 6.0L
I guess it won't be winning any drag races.

@ Redbloodedxy
Yet you fanboys say u don't care about drag races bc the Duramax beats the Super Duty and you guys call foul????
The 6.0L is a work horse/durable motor for GM. Yes, do they need to update it!! Absolutely!!
The same could have been said with Ford for all those years using the 5.4l.....NEVER won drag races but had decent TQ to pull with.
@ TNTGMC:
Well said.
They are going after Ford on this one with that huge front end. Would love to this truck without the camo, that front end looks like it may be a winner.
I dont get the mirrors.
-CT
That truck looks outdated already just by looking at those towing mirrors, worst mirrors ever. No wonder they called them GARBAGE MOTORS why? Cause they built GARBAGE NOTHING BUT PURE GARBAGE. Let the dogs know bark!!!
@TNT
Show where the 2018 Duramax beats the 2018 SD Power Stroke.
Exactly...I own one of those 6.0l...had it tuned...doesn't do too bad and I tow the 5th occasionally, eats gas though but is totally reliable/work horse and durable motor. Its an 07, a few miles but just keeps going.
It's long overdue for GM to revive the 454 gas engine for the three-quarter (and one ton) buyer who does not want a diesel engine.
Updating the 454 would be easy.
@ Lyle
Pickup trucks.com did comparisons on the HD and duallys
here is the dullys

@ Lyle
TFL also did comparison tests and the Duramax outperformed the SuperDooty
@ papajim
It’s easy when it’s not your money, and not an engine in production anymore.
Why do think GM hasn’t updated the 6.0L? To costly for low volume engine offered in one vehicle.
GM fanboys are illogical
“ The F-250 Diesel was much quicker with a time of 7.74 sec 0-60 MPH at a mile above sea level “
TFL.
Show me where the HD GM is quicker v
This would have been my next truck if it didn't come with the 6.slow.
Show me where the HD GM is quicker v

@Lyle,
Don't waste your time on these sperms, they should have been swallowed.
@ Lyle
Do I have to spoon feed it to you man!!! Its in the article!!!
You have reading deficiencies like your brother Frank??
@TNT
Show me where the Duramax is quicker than 7.74 seconds to 60mph.

GM doesn't update it because the 6.0 Vortec is a rock solid, tried and true iron block pushrod V8. It can take years and years of abuse and still run like a champ. The guys that actually buy 3/4 or 1-ton gassers don't care about 0-60 times.
I hate GM with a passion but you have to admit the 6.0 is a reliable workhorse and almost legendary status. Too bad the package it comes in is crap.
@ Lyle
It just beat the super duty head to head in every performance category in the article. Its head to head...man u have issues!!!.
Plus pickup trucks.com just did a 2500 mtachup few months back and the duramax beat it 0 to 60 loaded, and unloaded, on dyno...ALL of IT!!!!
Somebody please find me article... I'm detailing my Sierra right now...don't have time for this non sense
And yes the 6.0l is as bullet proof motor as your gonna get!!
@ TNT
Thanks for admitting you can’t find anywhere a HD Duramax being quicker to 60mph than a 2018 F250 SD Power Stroke @ 7.74 seconds ( and that is 1 mile above sea level )
looks like with the square wheel wells you will need to raise it up 6inches to install a one inch taller tire, same ole same ole
Looks ugly. Thanks
@ Lyle
Thanks for proving my point that your illiterate and can't read!! And your in denial when your precious powder stroke gets beat in EVERY Performance category!! Too funny!! Good job little fella...way to believe those ford lies propaganda!!
@ TNT
Learn the difference between “ your and you’re “ before you make personal insults and can call someone illiterate.
But I will thank you for beating around the bush about not being able to find where a HD Duramax can beat 7.74 seconds to 60mph ( the time of a 2018 F250 SD Power Stroke )
Thanks Sierra but I can fight my own battles.
hey sierra
I typed it on a smartphone... Thanks for grammar lesson. Wow...
Not beating around bush. Head to head the duramax wins. Enough said. Unread article as well.
u read. Dang phone
here u go
7.51...eat it
https://youtu.be/wxkB_u8EvFM
now class is dismissed!!!!
I'm ashamed of u sierra. Should have more pride than that.
A smart phone is only as smart as it’s dimwit operator.
And that dimwit operator is TNT.
I give u a fact and u still backlash...
Say what u want...I have given u and put u in your place. Go find a way to get your ranger fixed. Dimwhit...really. What a clown.
The 454 won’t come back, mostly due to tooling and emissions costs. However, a 6.5ish Liter engine with the larger bore of the 6.2, and a longer stroke, even a taller deck height (longer rods for better r/s ratio and constant RPM performance) would only require a few different components, could be a game changer.
What is most disappointing is the continued use of the torsion bar IFS. In the max front axle GAWR it is punishing, unlike the competition with similar GAWR.
Sadly so many GM things are so right, and yet a few key compromises narrow the market considerably.
@ Lyle
Wow I'm not even a GM guy but it's TRUE. The last PUTC comparison was the Duramax at 7.28 and PS at 7.91. The article even praises the D-Max for such a performance at the track empty or loaded!! Lol
So I'm confused, do you all not even read the articles on this site. Again, I'm not even a GM guy but it wasn't even close! The D-Max smoked the PS in every performance category! @ Sierra, you should probably change your name! Lol, your correcting others grammar but you don't even read the articles...
I’m not going to drag race with a 3/4 tom truck. I’m most concerned with how it pulls my trailer when I’m going up the side of a mountain in South Dakota, Colorado, Montana and Arizona. My trailer only weighs in at about 6000 pounds and I just pulled it through those states with my Silverado 1500 with the 5.3. We did ok but I was only making about 35 mph when I hit the top with my foot on the floor.. Plus mpg was only between 5-6 when going through the mountains and about 9 the rest of the time. Would I be able to beat both with the 6.0?
Notice how fast the 3 stooges (Lyle, Frank, and Sierra) ran with their tales between their legs after they realized how wrong they were!!! Frank, get your facts right before u insult old man!!
Wow tnt, you are (you're) being called out a lot to day.

Would I be able to beat both with the 6.0?
Posted by: Gary C | May 8, 2018
Not worth the difference unless you tow a lot. Even then, the 6.0 is hardly the boss machine for towing. Everything I read about the 6.0 praises it for reliability and long life.
As a motor to tow with you can't replace displacement unless you're willing to go the diesel route. In that case, the bigger the better. Nissans Cummins 5.0 has not been setting the world on fire.
@ CT
Called out?? Reread the posts man....I posted facts...they don't bother to read the facts! Then I post another fact that states the Duramax is faster at 0-60. Enough said!! They can't handle the truth...fanboys these days!!
Where's Jack Nicholson when you need him!
TNT- come on man!!!!! Its Pick on TNT Day !!!!!!

Ha..good luck, best wishes, if u wanna get put in your place!! Fire away! !!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All true except that a viable gasser will be needed for the 4500-5500 at some point and something along the lines of a 454 in terms of displacement may be able to find it's way back into the 3/4 - 1 tons as well. Sharing the cost among multiple configurations will help.
I wouldn't expect a true big block to return but somewhere close to a 400 CI small block is reasonable on both power and packaging.

Nobody cares for tenths of second, I'm sure TNT is in hurry to get to the Mall in his smooth sierra to pick up negative nancy.
:D
Do I have to spoon feed it to you man!!! Its in the article!
@ CT
Nice try...those are facts nd opinions about each manifacturers power specs.... Head to head the Duramax is king...
U have read the articles and seen the power specs and performances for each truck...just stop!
As for Frank...I'll take my smooth riding truck with my boat to my lake house is where I'm going and with 420 HP...I won't feel it back there... I could also pull your measly 260HP F250 around for u also, if your afraid to start it up BC it will catch fire!!! U won't even have to pay for gas! I'm a gentlemen like that!
Sounds like it might be a decent truck, but it will be no match for the CLASS LEADING 2020 RAM HD.
GUTS
GLORY
CLASS LEADING 2020 RAM HD
TNT- hook line and sinker-you are too easy. If its not all Gm you dont want to hear it. So head to head and a few tenths of a second matters, but Ford has more HP,TQ, towing capacity, and that doesnt matter?
I was waiting fro Papa to pipe in on this too, but he is out today with a headache.

CT
U are too funny!! All those numbers are just a front if the truck can't perform!! Are u that naive to see that?? Hmmmm...must be!! Or just stirring the pot?? Head to head is where the true facts come out....anyone can say they can pull, claim most HP/TQ. In yhe comparison the superdooty failed at all of them in recent head to head. So u can go with propaganda, I'll go with the facts.
Class is dismissed...u may leave now!!!
TNT- I'm just stirring the pot, and you are the star of the show!!!!! As I said, I could care less about little things like you gm guys care about. I just drive and buy what I like. You have a career in acting though for sure-haha
