2020 Ford Super Duty Sports New Grilles: Spied
We're beginning to see more 2020 Ford Super Duty prototypes on the road as the automaker enters the final testing stages for the refreshed heavy-duty pickup trucks. Up to this point, we've only seen rare glimpses of the HDs being transported from one facility to another. Now we're beginning to see more variations, with some hints about how the front grilles will change. Here's what our spy shooters are seeing and hearing about the updated F-Series heavy haulers.
"The face of today's Super Duty is defined by its two thick horizontal bars that fully envelope the massive Ford oval and dominate the grille opening. There are variations that strike out the central portion of the horizontal grille bars, but they're still hinted at in the alternate designs. The latest prototypes show a new take on the Super Duty's grille details, providing a lighter, more open grille area for a less heavy-handed look."
Super Duty Chassis Cab
"Our new shots of the Super Duty chassis crew-cab prototype cut through the front grille mesh, giving us a revealing look at one of the new grille designs. The new grille gets a pair of thinner horizontal bars, leaving an open area that runs through the center of the grille. The center section of the Ford oval now floats in the open-air grille section with the horizontal grille bars intersecting with only a fraction of the top and bottom of the badge. Open-air slits also reside at the top and bottom of the grille opening, framed in the horizontal bars."
Super Duty Long Bed
"The Super Duty crew-cab long-bed prototype shows another sportier grille design. This new grille uses a new take on the dual horizontal grille bar theme, but the bars are much thinner and farther apart. This new chiseled design has a taller open section running horizontally through the center of the grille, which leaves the Ford oval floating in the center of the grille. The horizontal bars appear to be tied to the top and bottom of the grille opening, resulting in what appears to be two open slots above and below the oval. A thin detail emanates from each side of the oval, helping to visually anchor the badge in the center of the grille."
F-350 Super Duty Dually
"The grille design on the F-350 dually prototype shows an open grille area without many of the details visible in the other grille designs. This grille design looks much cleaner than anything in the current Super Duty lineup and has some visual similarities to the 2019 F-150 grille on the Sport Package."
Behind the New Grilles
"Our sources report that the 'comprehensive mid-cycle change' is expected to be more than just a stylistic update. They say that a new V-8 engine — and the implementation of the Ford/GM 10-speed transmission — are on tap and will likely be offered in conjunction with a new exterior design update that resides beneath this graphic camouflage.
"The timing of releasing the refreshed Super Duty is key for Ford as the changes will likely try to counter the all-new HD trucks from Chevrolet/GMC and heavily overhauled HD trucks from Ram, all also due out for model-year 2020. Just as the release of the updated 2018 F-150 was well-timed and is expected to keep the GM/Ram light-duty trucks at bay, Ford's Super Duty strategy will try to work the same marketplace magic."

This new grille will push the super duty to finally beat the Duramax after 19 years!! Wait! GM will have an ALL new HD truck out by then. Who follows who?
7.0 DOHC made in Windsor, ON. Expected to replace the 6.2 and make its way to the Raptor
The 7.0L V8 in a Super Duty is still only a rumor.
FINALLY the 10spd arrives... Hope it hold up.
Ford will continue to dominate this market. Ram will second. GM will be a distant third.
What's with the flare on the rear top of the cabs? Is that all camo or a potential design?

@Eager
Isn't that sad? Whoever came up with that should be taken out back and whipped.
@Grnzel
I hope Ford makes a 7.0L and gets rid of the eco-bust. The Raptor deserves a V8. Very disappointing they got rid of 6.2L in half tons and Raptor!
If the GM hd trucks are superior to the Ford why does the Ford dominate so handily in sales in this category? I think it proves the point that none of the HD trucks are lacking for performance. Few people buy a particular HD truck because one has slightly faster 0-60. It's simply that people prefer the Ford overall design and features. For me the Ford just seems like a better designed truck for a working man. They are better at giving customers what they want. HD customers are not asking for better performance. I've always liked the more open feel of the super-duty compared to GM due to higher seating position and bigger windows. Simple as that but it's a big deal to me. Haven't driven the newer super duty so I hope it maintains that open feel. I also think reliability among the HD trucks is all much better than ever before, so it's not much of a factor either. Today when a guy buys an HD truck he isn't concerned so much that one is more reliable or has better performance because none are lacking here. It's all about the general design and feel of the truck mixed with price.
Found On Road Dead
^^Raptor needs a big burly V8, not a high-strung Ecoboost. Raptor also needs a steel body but that ship has sailed....at least for several years.
Aluminum is too easily dented by trail debris and especially hail.
@papa
Not quite a rumor - known as “Godzilla”, combustion chambers modeled after GM LS(larger intake valves than GM) DI/PI, rumored power 450 hp 510 ft lbs.
It’s not new news the EB are not returning expected fuel mileage and Ford doesn’t want loose any customers clamoring for a Fiat V8, powered Raptor fighter. Many expect this to be in the SD - but noting hard and fast... yet.
Ford working hard to keep the illusion going. Not too hard though, since those that buy Fords aren't that hard to fool.
The reality is that Ford consistently delivers the superior product. Ford F Series enjoys the highest buyer retention rate.
it kinda looks like the front bumper is a step bumper.

FORD SUPER DUTY
JUST LIKE ALWAYS THEY WILL SLAP A NEW GRILLE ON IT AND CALL IT ALL-NEW. GO WITH THE WINNING CHOICE: THE CLASS LEADING 2019 & 2020 RAM HD
@papa
GM and Fiat have their share of questionable cars over time as well..
I think we’re beyond the thinking that one car company is really that much better than anyone else, be it engineering, morality, financial performance, etc.. they all suck in some way in their history and they all had some decent vehicles as well.
@ papajim If we are going into history let's talk Vega. The car that made the Pinto look like a diamond. The body would be rusted thru in two years. The engine was aluminum block with Teflon for cylinder liners. This design was so bad that the aftermarket made steel replacement liners. Before that was the Corvair "unsafe at any speed".

I was responding to a silly post by another commenter. Don't lecture me about cars. I've driven more cars/trucks by accident than you have on purpose.
@Beebe
Well all things being more or less equal as you say the biggest factor is price. Ford has historically been the cheapest of the fleet players. I'd guess that generated a bigger aftermarket presence in the service truck industry. That in turn makes it cheaper to buy a Ford wrecker, ambulance, fire truck, or service truck.
So no, it's pretty much price.
@ papa.
Seems I need to more narrowly define for the narrow and brittle.
Since this is a pickup truck forum, I was refering to pickups.
I guess you need to be reminded. Vega, Chevette, Monza, X platform, Aztek. Fiero, Cavalier, Cimmeron(sic) .I could go on ,but as I actually work and not on the shuffle board and buffet team .
I am not sure why the larger rating on a truck the bigger the grills are, Seems like the larger the grill the more they are covered up....don't see no 700hp Vette with a grill that large...

Time have certainly changed. At least the Super Duty is apparently safe for speeds up to 65 mph if I remember correctly. Anything above that, not so much.
TNT, lol, you just put your foot in your mouth. Correct, Ford, the best never rest, its 2018 and they are already working on the next truck. They just recently updated them. Gm however, is still playing around trying to be Toyota because they failed at beating Ford. So again I agree with you, in who is following who, apparently GM is now following Toyota, because Ford keeps pumping out new stuff and Gm cant keep up. Nice Job Ford, Defend away-I know you will.....
Wake up call for Nitro
GM keeps selling more trucks than Ford. Consistently.
@papa
Ok I’ll play. You driving more cars than someone else makes you an expert? I’d be more impressed if you said you were a reliability engineer... iIs the person who works at Avis for 15 years an expert? There is more to this than the expirence,
@ Nitro
Keep defending. (LOL...sounds like someone doesn't it) Tell me when is the last time your Super Duty beat a Duramax in a performance data comparison ?? 18 years and counting the Duramax has won!! Keep trying though!
Ford needs to focus on building an ALL around great truck instead of worrying about "class leading". GM has done that and that is why they succeed.
As for sales, can't help there are a bunch of loyal Ford guys that would rather walk then try something else. I have 3 on wife's side of family that admit to it. So sad!

You tell 'em TNT!!! Those Ford shills really are something. BA should be along to start going on with his mindless posts. I think he took over for Frank in that respect!!
TNT-I hooked another one!
Ford F Series enjoys the highest buyer retention rate.

Proof that Ford fans are unable to learn from their mistakes.
Ford: great at being class leading on paper.
Ford owners: great at playing the best selling card when Ford loses a head to head comparison.
@papa
Here is the problem with your logic. Given all the vehicles produced, by a variety of manufactures (who themselves have changed over time) its impossible for you to make any statistically significant statement about any particular manufacturer let alone vehicle - your and my perceptions are modeled by a very narrow personal expirence. I don’t care if you drove 5000 cars - means nothing
@ Nitro
So I hooked u on my comment bc I commented first and then u responded to that?? Your logic is atrocious! Keep going though. Its funny laughing at u
Its funny when you talk about history, and sales...
Top 10 of all time, ever, so far, PERIOD.

3 Fords, one of which is the F series, no other trucks at all.
NO GMs. No Fiats. At all.

This.....
When you've been selling the same warmed over truck since '99 you can really put some pricing together.
Most large fleets are run by accountants nowadays, not experts.

Took me all of 30 seconds to prove you wrong. You've proven time after time to be less than average intelligence. It's ok, the world needs ditch diggers too.

GM poisoned their own waterhole with fleet sales. When GM went bankrupt they abandoned Topkicks and Kodiaks. There were no parts available for year old vehicles. There is a lot of fleet managers who have not forgot this.
PS Tntgmc I know this will start one of your rants but it will still be true.

Ahhh...... interesting comment. The company I work for is still operating 5500 series top kicks that are now 10 years and older. Parts are still available. What parts are not available in your area?

@ imposter!...BTW start using your own name
LMFAO! Ok, you are correct. Sorry not 18 years but 14 years. Good find though, love looking at older body style trucks. I bet it took you longer than 30 secs to pull that old article up!
@ full of cr@p
You of all people rant on here telling made up stories. What a joke you are....still have any proof of a 2.7L thats faster at or below sea level...thought so!
Gms Remember you will go to hell for lying same as stealing.

@FIF
Then your going there for sure bc the rants and gibberish you comment with and having nothing to back up with....(which I have asked you to back up many times, but you never seem to post anything)
and yes, articles are factual data.......just click on them, open them up, and read, and they have a plethora of data for you to soak in! Not bar talk!! Big difference
HOODWINK^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
@ tntgmc If you have a real job go to your IT manager and tell him you click on links posted in chat forums. He will tell you how proud he is of you.
@ Ford drools
Your a Clown @$$....please don't steal that one as well! You like hoodwink so much, ill give it to you!! But, remember, I came up with it first!
@ FIF
Its called using your phone, or using your desktop at home.
You just don't like factual data...tha'ts why you don't open them up...scares you and proves you wrong!!
@ tntgmc I am sorry I talked over your head. Clicking on a link posted by somebody you don't absolutely trust is completely stupid. Posting links and expecting somebody to click on it is not any better.
TNT- I still got em on, that hook is really in there now....
Nitro- I know I am such an idiot, but I will keep doing it, because I know nothing, except that Ford is number one and will Always be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
