Towing Tech Will Give 2019 Ford Ranger a Competitive Edge

Screen Shot 2018-08-08 at 11.22.15 AM II

It's likely we'll get a chance to drive the 2019 Ford Ranger before the end of the year, and from the looks of Ford's latest video, we'll get to tow as well. To make towing with the Ranger safer, the blind spot detection technology used in the 2018 Ford F-150 also will be available for the new mid-sizer. The system can be configured to cover blind spots for both the truck and the trailer or just the truck.

Sensors for the radar-based system will be located in the new rear taillight setup and will use an icon in the sideview mirrors to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from behind. The system also allows owners to create and save three trailer profiles via the in-cab information display to better approximate the proper distances for alert activation. Pricing for this system has not been announced, but it will be standard on XLT and Lariat trim levels. The system on the F-150 has come under scrutiny because damage to the rear taillights can be expensive to repair given the complexity of the system's structure and sensitivity of the sensors.

The short video below shows exactly how the system works.

you don't have to be a genius to know that a turbo 10 speed will offer some towing capacity. Hoping to hear more from Ford about it.

@Mark Williams
It is already available on Ford and other manufacturers products here.

Ford had better give the new Ranger a F-SERIES designation because it's gonna cut into the F-150 pick-up sales.

@Robert R

How many F150s and Silverado's do you have in Australia?

Is that the new Taurus truck? Looks like a Ford Taurus.

More like gm had better get ready to be outsold in small pickup trucks!! We already know they are used to being outsold in full size....

Not by the looks of this Taurus they won't outsell GM. If the Taurus didn't sell. What make u think this ugly thing will. Ugh....

Towing tech is not what's going to sell this truck...no one buys a compact truck and thinks.. man, sure do hope this thing has towing tech like a light that flashes in my mirror where I am already looking to see if some one is there, or man I'll be pulling a 10k lb 30ft trailer, sure do hope there is a light that flashes when someone is next to my trailer...

It's only a marketing gimmick..

Fuel economy, comfort, driving dynamics, etc will sell this truck..

Am I dumb, or am I the only one who believes that a blind spot is a pretty small area that exists between where your mirror shows you, and what you see out the side window. So no trailer has a blind spot from the drivers seat??? It’s just redundant with what the MIRROR is there for.

Stupid tech makes everyone feel invincible, and in reality offers very limited benefit.

@Jason Hicks

the Big 3 are investing in their alternatives. Ford and GM are going to play for keeps in midsize, because there's no more to be done with full size.

Each is already very competitive in full size and they are very profitable. FCA is doing very well with their big SUVs (Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee).

So, don't be surprised if Ford has plans to carve out a new niche.

More like gm had better get ready to be outsold in small pickup trucks!! We already know they are used to being outsold in full size....

Funny how the Ford Shills think that whatever Ford produces will outsell every other brand on the market. You guys must take those commercials too seriously! LOL

Ford chasing GM , nothing changes there.

@ papajim
Last F150 was sold by Ford in 1989. After that they did not import any more
F250-F350 about rhe same time these were Petrol engined 351 V8
Ford introduced the F250-F350 several yeats later with the 7.2 Diesel
Lasted about 3 yrs.
Also Chevrolet introduced the Suburban in 1998, it lastes one year.
There have been several convertors since.
At the moment what was TWR is converting both RAM 2500-3500 and Silverado 2500 /3500. To RHD Out of of an overal market of roughtly 210,000 Pickups anniualy rhey hipe to sell 1000l

The last time it was Ford vs GM in smaller trucks, Ford completely clobbered GM. No reason it will be any different this time around. As another on this site has said before and is very true- Ford Enters Ford Wins.

Ford completely clobbered GM. . .Posted by: GM Blows Chunks | Aug 9, 2018

@GBC

Please remember that Ford has not outsold GM for about five years last time I looked. If you're talking about midsize trucks, the old Ranger was never competitive because it was a 1980s-style compact trying to compete with 2000-style midsizers like the Colorado, the Frontier and the Tacoma.

We're still waiting for Ford to sell their FIRST midsizer in North America.

Better acceleration than the Colorado and Canyon, better mileage than the Ridgeline, and better off-road than a Tacoma will give it a competitive edge.
Better towing tech will make it more expensive. The market pretty well understands that even moderately frequent towing skews shopping heavily towards a half-ton.

@ Mark Williams

Do you block people from commenting here when what they have to say makes your favorite brand look bad???

It sure seems that way......

Anybody else had a comment they make not go in the live page even after multiple tries??

Congrats on mustang selling 10 million. Still isnt the best muscle car. Camaro trounces it! Look at the comparison tests! The camaro is a world class supercar in muscle car clothing!!!

Funny, when you purchase a COPO Camaro supercar, it comes with a Ford 9" rearend. LOL

Papajim do you remember this.

How many S10's????
Like I said Ford clobbered GM the last time they competed in small trucks.

So now this leftist media site is favoring the Ranger over the Colorado?

Hint: Tacoma will continue its domination because the liberal media hates it. I am ok with that liberal hate against the Tacoma, because it makes the Tacoma the ideal truck to buy!

LOL.

Little pretend truck owners tow little or nothing (see the Toyota research on the topic. Towing rated like 18th in what people look for in a little truck).

It is a way to drive up the price and profit margin of the little truck which just make full size half tons make more sense if you really do have towing to do.

These features are wasted on a little truck and Ford is just padding the gimmick factor and price on this one. They should stick with fluff little truck drivers want. Offroad packages like the Raptor, street/vanity appearance packages and keeping the price low.

These things are for kids and old men so give them what they want.

@ blueman

Way to divert from the truth. Who cares. The fact is: the camaro is a way better car in all performance categories! But u go ahead and waste $11k on a special edition bullit mustang thats no faster than a GT. Makes a lot of sense

Fake TNT-this is bad news for GM, Ford will blow them away now for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And, any bmw 4 cylinder turbo will blow away my camaro!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ fake imposter TNTGMC.... Aka CT

Hey, crunchtime, grow a pair of nuts and use your own user name.

BTW...u get that ram u supposedly should have gotten 3 months ago and then didn't. Pathetic.

Amsoil Engine Masters Rules Released; Ford Mod Motors Need Not Apply

One significant change from the original announcement is that there will not be a Chevy LS vs Ford Mod Motor shootout. Instead, it’s just a LS shootout, and there is no place in this year’s rules package for a team to enter a Ford 4-cam Modular engine. Two years ago, Mod Motors swept the top three places in their first year of eligibility but were not allowed in last year’s competition.

So much for LS Supercar engine. LOL

Is that a stock car u can buy from ford or gm. I was talking about a full factory warrantied car. Now u change subject again

Here's a good read for u

https://www.zeroto60times.com/category/muscle-cars/

Check how many times a camaro beats the mustang. Its kinda embarrassing through the years how many times the camaro wins head to head.

But hey u have your special edition to brag about that aren't any faster.....

Here u can look up every car.... Enjoy!!

Too bad all of Ford's success in this dyno room never performs well on the street.

GM pretty much has a head start on the mid size sales segment, Ford will come by shortly and takes GM lunch, again, as always.

Ranger always outsold the S10/Sonoma combined.

I don't know how a Ranger article changed to Mustangs and camaros. The camaro may be a great car but sales are not great. The camaro has lost about 3500 sales every year since 2011 down to 67,940 in 2017. At this rate it will be back out of procuction in 5 years.

Sour grapes i believe is what you have there.....

listing original Cobra's from the mid1960s is bogus.

They were rare as hen's teeth in those days. Only a few were made---not talking about the copies that were made much later. Ditto for side-oiler 427 dual quad Ford V8s. Super rare.

GTOs? Common. Hemi's? Common. Corvettes? Common.

Ford GT40s? Are you kidding me?

The Ford's were an Colaboration with a racing company. The other manufacters were in house built. HAHA!

@ Frank

Don't join in the debate unless u can share something. Your posts are worthless as always.

Blueman and I were having convo and then u pipe up and ruin it like a spoiled child who doesnt know his head from his @$$....

Just look at camaro vs mustang times through the years. Camaro is on top a lot more than the mustang

If u want articles. Research motor trend and car and driver and again camaro comes out of top!

Otherwise just ask and I'll be willing to post them for u

FrnakinFL- you want to know how stuff goes off topic and downhill here? TNT/GMC, thats how. The 2 people that prevent this place from being a great site.......

@ Frank

Lol. OK. That's why every time I give u facts u run and hide or retort to insults!!

You are child play little man, move along! And your link is laughable, bc GM takes a tour of plant...lol

Pick up truck comparison test last 2 years either diesel or half ton GM has been on top! Ford to to abandon triton V8s in half tons to go ecobusting and still can't match beat GM with performance or fuel economy of their V8s. Heck their best V8, the 6.2L they abandoned and only can get it in a F250...

Your coyote 5.0L is gutless at low end TQ, have to ref it out of its MInd to get it anywhere. Its now where near the car the camaro is

Enjoy the reading... If u can..otherwise their is a video on it to help even further prove my point

Now run along like u always do or insult....either way it will show your flaws!

Wow, you need a life. PEACE!

It did not get handed too, the camaro, bigger engine, can only muster .1 seconds in the trap, you know nothing, give me the mustang and you drive the camaro, and i'd bet you $100 I will outdrive you everytime.

The rest of the country would rather have the more refined mustang, I could care less for the comparison.

Only girls like to read the brochure.
